Marilyn Monroe was a study in contradictions. She was the giddy, cooing blonde who became one of America’s haughtiest sex symbols, as well as a woman haunted by a thorny relationship with her mentally ill mom and the pressures of fame. The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe, a two-night mini-series on Lifetime, tries to peer into the woman behind the legend, opening up the scars that most viewers couldn’t see under the flash and sizzle of the big screen. However, the mini-series is too disjointed and melodramatic to completely work as a biopic. Nevertheless, Kelli Garner is masterful as Monroe, digging into the pain and vulnerability of a cultural icon without ever succumbing to mere impersonation. It’s a terrific performance, the magnetic core of an otherwise muddled misfire.

The Producers Guild of America has announced their nominations for the PGA Awards and it's hard not to agree with every movie on the list. All of the ones I've seen are great films, and the ones I haven't seen I've heard are amazing. The only two on the list I haven't watched are The Artist and The Descendants, both of which I'm looking forward to seeing. I'd love Hugo or War Horse to take home the top prize though. Those were my two favorite movies of 2011. The winners will be announced on January 21st, 2012; check out the full press released with the list of nominations below and tell us what you think! What would you like to see win?

We really can’t say that 2011 is behind us until award season is finished, and as we get closer to the coveted Academy Awards in February, various other guilds and organizations are recognizing the best that 2011 had to offer. Today the Producers Guild of America announced their nominees for Best Picture. The PGA is generally a good indicator as to which movies will be nominated for best Picture when the Oscars roll around.
There are some pretty safe picks. Movies like War Horse, The Artist, The Descendants, and Hugo all made the list, but its Bridesmaids that came completely out of no where.
Below is the full press release of those that are nominated. This includes animated films and television shows. As you can see there are a lot of movies you expect to see on this list with a few surprises on it as well.

Here's your best indicator yet as to what the crop of nominations for the Best Picture Oscar is likely to be. The Producers Guild of America (PGA) has announced its nominations for 2011 awards, which will be doled out on January 21. The ten films nominated for the PGA's top honor include expected pictures such as The Artist, The Descendants and War Horse. There are no real surprises, but the growing Oscar chances for The Help won't be hurt by getting a PGA nomination (would be slightly wild to see Chris Columbus, a producer on The Help, with an Oscar), and Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris makes an appearance on the list, too. There are a couple surprises, though, in the form of Bridesmaids and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo -- the Judd Apatow and Scott Rudin effects in full force there. With 5-10 Best Picture nominations possible for this year's Oscars,...

Nov. 22, will always been a day that takes America's consciousness back to that fateful day in 1963 in Dallas.
Today marks the 48th anniversary of President JFK's assassination. To reenact an event that is familiar with nearly everyone, Joel Surnow, executive producer of The Kennedys, knew the miniseries had to be historically accurate.
There was a lot of research that went in to it but Stephen Kronish, the writer, has spent a lifetime, the past 40 years, reading and researching The Kennedys just out of his own personal interest, so we basically had a Kennedys scholar from the beginning.
In the miniseries, Greg Kinnear portrayed Jack Kennedy and Katie Holmes played Jackie Kennedy. Holmes said the Kennedys crew succeeded in retelling the events of the Kennedys family, including JFK's assassination.
I think that everyone did an incredible job and it really helped to make the whole thing seem very real.

Exclusive: Lifetime has put in development Princess of Whales, a drama project from 24 and The Kennedys writer-producer Stephen Kronish and Cold Case star-turned-producer Kathryn Morris. The project is based on the true story of Marcia Hartman and follows the exploits of one of Las Vegas’ most successful casino hostesses, whose job is to bring in the super-high rollers and make them spend as much as possible. But her lavish lifestyle and life-of-the-party personality reveal a dark side that threatens to destroy her. Morris and her development executive at Revival House Josh Gold saw an article about Hartman, tracked her down and secured the rights to her story. “She is the most fascinating, complex female character we had seen,” said Morris, who has no plans to act on the potential series. She took the idea to seasoned showrunner Kronish, who came on board to help develop the project and to write the script.

When the screener for the first two episodes of The Kennedys arrived I was honestly excited, for here sits a person whose university dissertation was entitled ‘Goodbye Norma Jean’ and focussed on that period of Us history which the Kennedy family led America and gave hope to the world.
For me and for many others, the Kennedys have an enduring appeal, as much for their expressed political values as for their imperfections and I have found them compelling despite these. This is pretty much the mindset that one needs to apply to this series. The series begins on The History Channel tonight after a reportedly chequered journey to the screen, already denounced by the family it depicts and much maligned crtiically as a poor version of a very good story. Despite all this I quite liked it.

The first two hours of the television miniseries “The Kennedys” debuted yesterday on ReelzChannel, and drew a record audience for the channel of 1.9 million total viewers.
The premiere was the culmination of a year-long rollercoaster ride of media scrutiny, partisan accusations and an unceremonious dumping by its original network, The History Channel.
Emmy-award winning director Jon Cassar has been in the middle of the fray.

The Kennedys, the miniseries that stars Greg Kinnear as JFK and Katie Holmes as Jackie has found a new, albeit far lower profile home on TV: the ReelzChannel (yep, it's all one word). According to a story this morning in The Hollywood Reporter, the controversial miniseries, created by 24 executive producer Joel Surnow and writer Stephen Kronish will have its world premiere on Reelz April 3. The Kennedys' original world premiere, on The History Channel, was scrubbed--reportedly under pressure from the real Kennedys--earlier this month.

The long-running saga of "The Kennedys" -- the miniseries, not the family -- has finally reached a conclusion.
The eight-hour miniseries, which the History Channel commissioned but then decided not to air, has found a home after several weeks of rumors that it was headed to this cable channel or that, none of which panned out. It will premiere April 3 on ReelzChannel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It's the first original scripted series for ReelzChannel, which airs movies and movie-related programming, along with a few syndicated series (including "NewsRadio" and "Brothers & Sisters"). Reelz is an independently owned channel available in about 60 million homes which has previously had a pretty low profile.
The acquisition of "The Kennedys" will "drive ratings and put a spotlight on this network that has never been on it before," ReelzChannel CEO Stan Hubbard tells the Hr. "We're going to do a full-blown marketing campaign."

Those waiting in anticipation for the Spring premiere of "The Kennedys" on History Channel will be disappointed. The miniseries has been canned after A&E Television Networks made a surprising move to cancel the plans to broadcast it because it is "not a fit for the History brand".
"Upon completion of the production of 'The Kennedys', History has decided not to air the 8-part miniseries on the network," a rep for the network tells THR in a statement. "While the film is produced and acted with the highest quality, after viewing the final product in its totality, we have concluded this dramatic interpretation is not a fit for the History brand."
The project cost multi-million dollar, thus is the network's most expensive program ever. However, the content and accuracy have been disputed since the project was announced back in December 2009. Some Kennedy historians disagreed with the script developed...

The History Channel has shelved its first scripted project, a miniseries about the Kennedys, after deciding it took a little too much dramatic license.

History is making a big entrance into scripted programming.
The cable network has greenlighted "The Kennedys," an eight-hour miniseries about the iconic American clan. The project, slated to begin production in the spring for a 2011 premiere, hails from "24" co-creator/executive producer Joel Surnow.
"Kennedys" has a strong "24" pedigree, with former co-executive producer Stephen Kronish writing all eight scripts and former director/executive producer Jon Cassar on board to direct.
Canadian-based Muse Entertainment is producing the mini, whose budget is said to be in the $20 million-$25 million range, in association with Asylum Entertainment.
Pointing to the channel's 25% audience growth during the past three years, History president and Gm Nancy Dubuc called the expansion into scripted programming "the logical next step."
Also logical was the selection of the Kennedys as the subject of the channel's first scripted effort.

Joel Surnow, co-creator of the Fox hit 24, is prepping a 10-hour miniseries on the Kennedy family that promises to "unveil secrets" about the legendary clan. The Kennedys will take an inside look behind the secret doors of the White House, and the soiled and crooked steps it took to get there. It also tells the historical stories that are associated with the Kennedy era -- the Bay of Pigs, the Missile Crisis, the civil rights struggle, the mob connection -- each one told in the context of personal, Kennedy-family dramas. The project from Muse Entertainment will be pitched internationally this weekend at the Miptv confab in Cannes. A major U.S. cable network is in talks to acquire the project for domestic release.
