The Saw franchise was the king of horror throughout the 2000s and I was one of those who absolutely ate it up. The series wound up coming to a conclusion with Saw: The Final Chapter, but as any good horror fan knows, slapping The Final Chapter on anything is pretty much a guarantee that it won't be. Sure enough, John Kramer (Tobin Bell) would return seven years later for Jigsaw,…...

As John Kramer, aka Jigsaw, in the Saw movies, Tobin Bell forces people to face their sins through elaborate traps, and he gives a group of teenagers the same opportunity in The Call, only this time he's doing it at the behest of his late wife, Edith (Lin Shaye), who isn't quite resting in peace after a heartbreaking accident. With The Call now playing at drive-ins via Cinedigm, we caught up with Bell to talk about working with Shaye for the first time on The Call, and he also shared his excitement for the upcoming Spiral: From the Book of Saw.
How did the opportunity to play Edward come about? Did they come to you with the script? Did they kind of write it with you in mind?
Tobin Bell: Nobody ever said that to me. And I think it's probably unlikely that they wrote it with me in mind,...

The Saw franchise looked dead in the water just a couple of years ago, with the horror series running out of ideas and suffering from the law of diminishing returns after churning out seven installments between 2004 and 2010, before going on hiatus and returning in 2017 with Jigsaw. The eighth entry seemed to draw a line under the famously elaborate traps that had been Saw‘s calling card, but all it took was one unexpected talent to become involved to generate the most excitement the brand had seen in a long time.
Chris Rock doesn’t appear to be the sort of actor that would be interested in headlining a new Saw effort, especially when he’s made just six movies in the last ten years that didn’t have him co-starring with Adam Sandler. However, as a longtime fan of the franchise, the 55 year-old comedian ended up starring in, executive producing...

All signs point to the upcoming Saw reboot being a big success. The star power of Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson should draw many moviegoers to the theater, as will the name recognition of the prolific horror franchise. The release date has already been moved up by five months due to all the hype as well, meaning that the studio anticipates the film to be a big hit.
In fact, sources close to We Got This Covered – the same ones who told us the lead characters in Ghostbusters 3 would be young teens before it was later confirmed – have informed us that Lionsgate is already developing sequels to the flick in hopes that the box office numbers can justify an entire series. How many more movies they plan to do is unclear, but if all goes well, the story won’t end with this one.

Last month, I had the opportunity to check out the 4Dx in-theater technology for Andy Muschietti’s adaptation of It, and this week, I had a chance to hop into the hot seat once again for Jigsaw, the latest entry of the Saw franchise, which was helmed by Michael and Peter Spierig. As someone who is something of a Saw enthusiast, I was eager to see what the brothers behind such films as Daybreakers and Predestination had in store with their new deadly game of survival and redemption.
**Spoiler Alert: Because I’ll be discussing how the 4Dx technology played into certain specific moments in Jigsaw, there will be some spoilers that follow (plus, I have my own “waxing poetic” moments about this franchise that I’m eager to discuss). I’d recommend seeing the film for yourself first before reading any further.**

After a seven-year hiatus, the notorious Jigsaw Killer has returned in time to claim Halloween.
But John Kramer’s reign at the top won’t last for long, as David Gordon Green and Jamie Lee Curtis are now in the process of courting Michael Myers back to the fray. As far as horror icons go, Myers is right up there with the greatest (and most terrifying!) creations in film history, so it’s small wonder why Green’s Halloween sequel – dubbed a “reinvention” of the famous franchise – has generated so much excitement.
Sadly, it won’t be with us until 2018, but Jamie Lee Curtis took to Twitter earlier this morning to offer up the next best thing: a tongue-in-cheek teaser for next year’s reboot. Talk about celebrating All Hallow’s Eve in style! Bearing the caption, “some wounds never heal,” Curtis’ scream queen is pictured alongside Michael Myers. Sporting...

It doesn't take much knowledge of the horror genre to realize a final chapter hardly means anything. Just as many franchises that have had a "final chapter" have carried on with gleeful bloodletting as if nothing of finality has ever even occurred. So it's no surprise the Saw series has returned. Seven years after the series' apparent conclusion, the games are rigged back up, the unwilling participants are again in imminent peril, and the mysteries surrounding the Jigsaw killer and his legacy are at it once again. While the return of this franchise could have been used to shake things up, though, those traps and the mystery they bring offer little freshness or a sense of the new to the proceedings. Fans of the series will be happy with the franchise's return, but the Spierig Brothers' Jigsaw and its latest game won't be winning over any new contestants. The original Jigsaw killer,...

Back from either the dead or a seven-year sabbatical when he last appeared in the now-misleading Saw 3D: The Final Chapter in 2010, the latest reincarnation of Jigsaw is largely more of the same, with a little less gore. Jigsaw’s “healing” games — a cross between Tony Robbins making his audience walk on hot stones and Dr. Phil yelling at “patients” — is just as cutthroat as The Food Network’s Guy’s Grocery Games, and then some.
What might make for a fun movie is a straight-forward drama from the point of view of John Kramer (Tobin Bell) about what the Jigsaw killer does to fabricate these devices and what he does with the rest of his time carrying out the kinds of things Matthew Barney can only dream about. To continue the franchise even further following John Kramer’s death, Jigsaw uses two classic storytelling devices from the Saw playbook: the new film teaches us that Jigsaw had one more secret apprentice, and it uses flashbacks to showcase yet another house of horrors concocted, built and inhabited by John prior to his death.

It’s been six Billy-less Halloweens since Saw 3D closed the book on John Kramer’s legacy, but now – after executive consideration (aka “Who wants more money?”) – the Spierig Brothers look to scare-up familiar box office treats this October with Jigsaw. Seven straight years of torture-porn bloodletting (2004-2010), six years off – writers Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg should have Loads of sanguine grotesqueness stockpiled. That’s Lionsgate’s hook, right? You wouldn’t reboot an iconic horror franchise without good reason. Shock audiences, defy expectations and explore uncharted grounds. Prove that we need Kramer and company back in our lives! Don’t just toy with the same franchise devices Saw fans are used to – exactly like y’all did.

The Jigsaw Killer has been a fixture of the genre since 2004 and in that time, Tobin Bell’s twisted serial killer has racked up a body count that would leave even the most seasoned horror fan squirming in their chair. And it’s not over yet.
For the first time in seven long, long years, John Kramer has returned in time for Halloween, and in honor of Jigsaw‘s release, Bloody Disgusting has uncovered a two-minute supercut designed to recount all of the franchise’s gory, gruesome deaths.
Set against the Benny Hill theme song (because of course it is), this is a timely look back at Jigsaw’s reign of terror, which features everything from the reverse bear trap to the so-called angel trap of Saw 3. The cult horror series has come an awful long way since its humble debut in 2004, and though the term “torture porn” is often...

Tobin Bell’s pious pain-merchant is dredged back up for Halloween in a limb-lopping retread that restores a welcome simplicity but reeks of an easy payday
Cinema’s most sanctimonious sicko is back. For six years until 2010, Jigsaw, the moralising serial killer of the Saw franchise, turned up like clockwork in a new torture-porn sequel – each one outdoing the last in vileness. Time was finally called with the bogusly titled Saw 3D: The Final Chapter. Now, with grinding inevitability, comes the reboot, a slick soulless horror flick just in time for Halloween, more trick than treat.
For the uninitiated, Jigsaw is John Kramer (Tobin Bell), a terminally ill sadist and inventor of extravagant death traps designed to torture and kill sinners in revolting ways. Even eight films in, there’s still a hairs-on-the-back-of-the-neck prickle as five strangers wake up groggily from a drug-induced sleep. Each is wearing a metal hood...

The Saw franchise comes back to life with Jigsaw. So: business as usual?
“You think it's over just because I am dead... The games have just begun.” That quote pretty much sums up the four Saw films that followed the gruesome demise of Tobin Bell’s John Kramer, which closed out Saw III. For four Halloweens in a row, writers used every trick they could to keep the series going post-Jigsaw-autopsy. They finally wrapped it up with the seventh flick in the franchise, 2010’s Saw 3D: The Final Chapter, which gave longtime fans of the series a satisfying point to end on: Cary Elwes returned as Doctor Gordon from the first film, putting an end to Jiggy’s last apprentice standing, the murdery Detective Hoffman played by Costas Mandylor. The games, at last, seemed to actually be over. But here we are, seven years later, with Jigsaw. A...

We all know the story of Wes Craven’s 1984 horror classic A Nightmare On Elm Street. Terrifying dream demon Freddy Krueger stalks the teenagers of Springwood through their slumber – torturing them to death in gory and disturbing ways before they wake. Are you ready for Jigsaw?
It is, in essence, the eighth entry into Lionsgate’s time-honored Saw franchise, one that’s coming by way of directing duo Michael and Peter Spierig. Best known for their work on Daybreakers, the Spierig siblings are still relatively new when it comes to Hollywood’s horror scene, but when asked to describe how they approached the cult series, Michael Spierig hinted that Jigsaw is “Saw for 2017.” That means it’s safe to expect more nightmare fuel and wildly inventive demented traps than you can shake a pig’s mask at, and though Lionsgate’s franchise has fallen by the wayside in recent years, in 2017, Halloween belongs to Jigsaw. And long may he reign.

When the Saw franchise was in the midst of its original seven-film run, many moviegoers were complaining of being fatigued, which was actually quite understandable. Even as somebody who viewed the series as an episodic serial that delivered one installment per year, I can at least find validity in the gripe saying that perhaps not enough space was put between in each offering. Truth be told, the same argument could be aimed at the Paranormal Activity franchise, but that’s a conversation for another day.
Having said that, I’m willing to give Lionsgate’s Jigsaw a viewing. I mean, you probably gathered that I’m a fan from the above paragraph, so it’s only to be expected that anyone such as myself who’s invested that much time in something is more than likely willing to see where the story goes next.

This October, you can definitely get your scare on at the movies.
While It is still dominating the box office and will make for a great Halloween treat, there are even more horror films to look forward to this month. We might even suggest a double bill or a mini-marathon, because October is a month meant to binge on horror.
Not only that, but some awards-contenders and big festival players are also making their way to Cineplex, films like Suburbicon and one of our favourites from Tiff, The Florida Project.

After taking a lengthy – and much needed – hiatus from cinemas, the Saw franchise is finally ready to once again shed gallons of blood with its latest installment, Jigsaw. But despite featuring a returning Tobin Bell who’s set to reprise the role of John Kramer in some capacity, all signs point toward a copycat at play.
Who that may be remains unknown, of course, but it’s important to note that neither Costas Mandylor nor Cary Elwes are set to feature here, so either there’s a new player in town after all, or this series is about to take an unexpected supernatural turn. Regardless, we can’t wait to see what the final twist will be and now, with the film set to arrive later this month, Lionsgate has begun to ramp up the promotion.

Aside from some surprising story trinkets that emerged last month, both studios have maintained a radio silence when it comes to the mooted reboot, though if the Powers That Be were to place Robert Englund in control of casting, the series stalwart would name Kevin Bacon as a potential candidate to play the mutilated Freddy.

For a horror series renown for its grotesque, toe-curling deaths, Lionsgate’s Saw series actually helps save a lot of lives.
Since the franchise first flickered into life in 2004, the Saw Blood Drive has been a time-honored tradition that encourages film fans to donate blood at various locations across the United States, and it’ll be returning next month to commemorate the release of Jigsaw.
Coming by way of Daybreakers duo Michael and Peter Spierig, Jigsaw is a horror sequel that raises some reasonable question marks over Saw: The Final Chapter‘s evocative, and seemingly conclusive title. Nevertheless, John Kramer is back – or, at least, his disciples are back – for a horror spiel involving sick, twisted traps and mutilated corpses. Wanna’ play a game?

Update: A new trailer has been released as well and can be viewed below.
Halloween 2017 has been steeped in a very potent blend of nostalgia.
Not only is the second season of Stranger Things due to premiere via Netflix, but on the big screen, horror fans will be flocking to see Jigsaw and Leatherface, two very different continuations to two very different, yet equally terrifying franchises.
On the one hand, Jigsaw will begin a new murderous spiel on October 20th, with all signs pointing to John Kramer returning in some shape or form, whereas Leatherface is all about the origin story behind Tobe Hopper’s famous Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Widely considered to be one of the most influential horror films of the ’80s – if not all time – Julian Maury and Alexandre Bustillo’s nightmarish prequel is walking in the footsteps of greatness, and today Yahoo! has conjured up a brand...

The Saw franchise began, back in 2004, with Tobin Bell’s John Kramer – aka The Jigsaw Killer - playing dead on the floor of a grimy bathroom. Leigh Whannell and James Wan’s micro-budget horror/thriller spawned six blood-spattered sequels, birthing a franchise that became synonymous with Halloween cinema trips.
But then, in 2010, came Saw 3D. The seventh film in the torture-stuffed series presented itself as The Final Chapter, going full circle - revisiting the bathroom from Saw - and tying up all the loose ends of John’s legacy. ‘Jigsaw‘ has revealed it’s first trailer and a new teaser poster. It’s been seven whole long years since we were last graced with the release of a Saw film, with the previous entry in the franchise ‘Saw 3D‘ released in 2010. Although Jigsaw himself, Tobin Bell, is set to return — we still don’t know to what capacity.
The film was originally titled ‘Saw: Legacy‘ but was then changed to ‘Jigsaw‘ after principal photography was completed. Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger wrote the script, and Michael and Peter Spierig directed the film, which is due for an October 2017 release. The sequel stars Callum Keith Rennie as “Halloran”, Clé Bennett as “Det. Keith”, and Laura Vandervoort as “Anna”.

Leatherface and Jigsaw, two horror flicks prepped and ready for this year’s crowded Halloween season, have kick-started their respective marketing campaigns, and they seem to have come at the expense of the local livestock.
Whereas Michael and Peter Spierig’s Saw sequel has incorporated severed pig heads into its suitably creepy character portraits – character portraits designed to spotlight John Kramer’s many disciples more than anything else – the latest one-sheet for Leatherface features a mysterious individual dressed in dungarees. Oh, and they also happen to be sporting a cow’s head for added effect. Because apparently a prequel movie chronicling the origins behind that infamous Texas Chainsaw Massacre wasn’t enough to send a shiver or three down our spines.
Directing from a script penned by Seth M. Sherwood, Julien Maury, and Alexandre Bustillo are behind the lens for Leatherface, which is due to premiere via DirecTV in two months’ time.

The Saw franchise will be returning to our cinemas this Halloween, with the first trailer for ‘Jigsaw’ out, meaning that ‘Saw 3D: The Final Chapter’ is no longer the final chapter…
The film picks up about 10 years later than the apparent death (in ‘Saw III’) of the Jigsaw Killer, John Kramer (Tobin Bell). New, gruesome murders are being discovered around the city, with the evidence from the investigation pointing to Jigsaw. The question is who is this killer? Is Jigsaw still alive or is there a copycat? It is something for the police to figure out.
