The 39th season of “Survivor,” dubbed “Island of the Idols,” premieres Wednesday, September 25, 2019 on CBS. This time around there’s a brand new twist as a pair of former winners — Sandra Diaz-Twine and “Boston” Rob Mariano — return to act as mentors for the two tribes of players. We are just weeks away from the premiere of Survivor Season 39, and CBS has officially unveiled the cast.

Two winners are on the way back to the series -- but they won't be taking part in the competition.

"Boston Rob" Mariana and Sandra Diaz-Twine will serve as mentors to the new group of 18 castaways taking part on Season 39's "Island of the Idols."

The duo will also be the "idols" to the castaways. The new twist will allow some of the cast members to visit the Island of the Idols.

Once there, they will learn new skills and be given lessons on strategy.

They will then be given the option to put the knowledge to use to earn an advantage or take the chance of losing something.

CBS’ Survivor has revealed the cast for Season 39 of the long-running reality-tv competition — as well as announced how series vets “Boston Rob” Mariana and Sandra Diaz-Twine fit in.

Premiering on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 8/7c, Season 39 brings back “legendary winners” Boston Rob and Sandra — who together have plated more than 200 days of Survivor — as mentors to a group of 20 new castaways. As such, Boston Rob and Sandra will serve as the “idols” in this season’s “Island of the Idols” twist, in that some castaways will be afforded the opportunity to visit the Island of the Idols to learn skills and strategy.
