Originally envisioned as a British mockumentary spin-off starring Ricky Gervais and co-created by Steven Knight, The Office soon became one of the most popular sitcoms in history. Due to its popularity, the series has received numerous international versions, each dealing with the life of a small company dealing, in most cases, with paper. The American iteration starring Steve Carrell and John Krasinski is by far the most famous of these international versions, and if you remember, we have recently reported that the series would be getting another spin-off.
Plans for a spin-off of The Office have been there since 2008, and as we reported not that long ago, it has been confirmed that original showrunner Greg Daniels is indeed moving forward with a new version of the series. The series was, in the meantime, confirmed to be a spin-off rather than a reboot or revival of the original series. Today, we...

Greg Daniels and Michael Koman could return to The Office universe, with Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus) as cast members of the proposed spinoff. Gleeson and Inpacciatore would be part of an ensemble for the project, which Deadline says is close to entering production. Plot details about The Office spinoff remain a mystery.
We know only a little about the project beyond its setting in The Office universe. Daniels wants fans to know it’s not a reboot, even though it takes place in the same arena as the Steve Carell-led mockumentary series focusing on the fictional Dunder Mifflin Paper Company employees. Daniels says the new show could feature a camera crew doing a documentary about a subject outside the day-to-day lives of office workers surviving the daily grind and their toxic boss.
Domhnall Gleeson launched his acting career in 2001 as a character named Byrne in an episode of Rebel Heart.

The new iteration of “The Office” currently in development has started to flesh out its cast.
Variety has confirmed with sources that Sabrina Impacciatore and Domhnall Gleeson are attached to the project, which remain in development at Universal Television. They would occupy two roles in what would be an ensemble cast, like the original versions of the show.
Reps for Utv declined to comment.
Greg Daniels and Michael Koman are co-creating the new series. It has previously been reported that it is not a reboot of “The Office” but is set in the same universe, meaning it would likely be set in a different office setting with all new characters.
Gleeson has recently starred in shows such as “Alice & Jack,” “The Patient,” “Frank of Ireland,” and “Run.” He is perhaps best known for his role as General Hux in the new “Star Wars” film trilogy. He has also starred in films such as “Frank,...

The next iteration of The Office is coming together.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the new take on the beloved NBC Steve Carell comedy has cast the first two members of what will be the ensemble comedy with Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus) and Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) becoming the first two to join the cast of the potential series.
Reps for Universal Television, which is producing the updated take from creators Greg Daniels and Michael Koman (Nathan for You), declined to comment as the details surrounding the project remain closely guarded. A platform for the project has not yet been determined as sources say Daniels and the studio want to make sure the take is right before setting it up at a network/streamer. Television fans know that The Office is one of the most popular sitcoms in history. Originally a British mockumentary spin-off starring Ricky Gervais and co-created by Steven Knight, the series received numerous international versions, each dealing with the life of a small company dealing, in most cases, with paper.

While it may have been quite some time since fans of The Office were asking for a reboot of the series with the original cast, there were no updates that would indicate it was ever in the cards. But recently, fans of the show were treated to the news that series creator Greg Daniels has a brand new offering for the audience in the form of his new project.
A still from The Office
While this is wonderful news, some people were still a little upset that they wouldn’t get to see Steve Carell reprise his iconic role as Michael Scott in the new series.
Yet again, fans were treated to good news when Daniels revealed that while his new creation might be completely original, it will be set in the same universe as his previous show, which has got fans hopeful for some of the iconic characters to return on screen.

As “The Office” showrunner Greg Daniels looks to create a new series in the world of Dunder Mifflin, he’s tapped “Nathan for You” co-creator Michael Koman to help lead the project, sources tell Variety.
Daniels and Koman would serve as co-creators of the prospective series, which has not yet been greenlit to series and is still in development at Universal Television. It is not a reboot of “The Office” but is set in the same universe, meaning it would likely be set in a different office setting with all new characters.
Daniels opened a development room in January 2024 to begin working on the new iteration of the hit NBC mockumentary sitcom, which ran from 2005 to 2013 and was adapted from Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s British series of the same name. The American “Office” took place in Scranton, Penn., and followed the staff of a paper company. It starred Steve Carell,...

Earlier this month, it was reported that The Office showrunner Greg Daniels was meeting with writers for a potential follow-up to the acclaimed comedy series, and the project seems to have taken another step forward. Deadline reports that Daniels has teamed up with Michael Koman, co-creator of Nathan For You, for this new Office series.
The new series would not be a reboot of The Office but take place in the same universe, just set in a new office with new characters. This would potentially allow for cameos or guest spots from cast members of the original series, but sources tell Deadline that a full-blown reunion isn’t in the cards. Daniels has said that the new series could follow a film crew doing a documentary about a different subject, which could mean just about anything.

Exclusive: As Greg Daniels continues to work with a group of writers on what could become an expansion of The Office universe, Nathan For You co-creator Michael Koman has emerged as a leading creative voice. “Jury Duty” is a reality show. Or is it a sitcom? A documentary? An elaborate prank?
How about all of the above?
One of 2023’s defining breakouts, the Amazon Freevee series is the crown jewel of an ascendant hybrid genre sometimes referred to as docu-comedy. Even the people who made the show aren’t sure how to classify it. Director Jake Syzmanski and co-creator Lee Eisenberg say they’ve never heard that term. Eisenberg suggested hidden-camera comedy, but that’s not really accurate either, as everyone involved knew they were being filmed. Robyn Adams, a producer, used “outlined improv.” Whatever nomenclature best applies, this increasingly common format has enjoyed a banner year, with “Jury Duty,” Peacock’s “Paul T. Goldman,” BBC and Netflix’s “Cunk on Earth,” and HBO’s “How To with John Wilson” picking up where the likes of Sacha Baron Cohen and Nathan Fielder left off.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “How To with John Wilson” Season 3, Episode 6, “How To Track Your Package” — the series finale.]
Certain scenes from “How To with John Wilson” never really leave your brain. Kyle MacLachlan swiping his Metro card. The multi-purpose use of scaffolding. Muh-ma. Season 3, the documentary’s final season, has already provided indelible memories of self-cleaning public restrooms, an allegorical (yet very real) car explosion, and, of course, professional earwax removal. (Who’s already booked an appointment with your local Otolaryngologist?) But the finale, “How To Track Your Package,” not only triggers (and soothes) acute fears of absent parcels, it also evokes two milestones from “How To’s” debut seasons; two moments that illustrate what makes Wilson’s documentary such a joy to watch and so amazing to behold; two scenes that help send the series off with scholarly closure, while still fitting snugly into this week’s altruistic arc.

John Wilson was filming the scene on Park Avenue with his handheld Sony camcorder when I met him in midtown for coffee. He was sporting a “Jeopardy” T-shirt, and I thought of how the late game show host Alex Trebek might have loved Wilson’s question and answer style of television.
For over a decade, Wilson has been traveling around the boroughs answering the questions every New Yorker has asked themselves at least once. It began with offbeat short films entitled “How to Clean a Cast Iron Pan,” “How to Live With Bed Bugs” and “How to Remain Single,” before rebranding itself into the acclaimed Nathan Fielder-executive produced HBO docu-comedy series “How to With John Wilson.”
In the show’s third and final season, premiering on HBO and Max on July 28, Wilson turns “How To” into something a bit more personal, reflecting on the making of the show, and...

John Wilson’s hanging up his handheld camera. The creator and star of HBO’s acclaimed docu-comedy series “How To with John Wilson” is ending the show with its upcoming third season, set to premiere on July 28.
The 25-minute series, which originally premiered in October 2020, is shot and narrated by Wilson, and compiled from candid footage taken in New York City as well as interviews. Each episode is framed as an instructional guide on a different activity — for example, Season 3 episodes include installments focusing on finding a public restroom, working out, and cleaning your ears — and uses the seemingly mundane topic to approach larger philosophical issues. The show’s first two seasons received critical acclaim, and the Season 2 finale nabbed an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Nonfiction Program.

“How to with John Wilson” has been renewed for its third season at HBO.
In the comedic docuseries, filmmaker and self-described “anxious New Yorker” John Wilson films the lives of others in the city while attempting to give advice on deceptively simple topics and continuing his own mission of self-discovery. Season 2 episodes include “How to Throw Out Your Batteries,” “How to Remember Your Dreams” and “How to Be Spontaneous.”
The series first debuted in 2020. Season 2 debuted in late 2021 and received wide praise for Wilson’s and the series’ heartfelt tone — Variety’s review noted that series “brings into the world a wealth of human experience that would otherwise have stayed hidden, in the parts of New York where the cameras don’t usually go.” Wilson was also included on Variety‘s list of the best TV performances of 2021.

New York City wasn’t built for a shutdown. With buildings seemingly stacked on top of each other, the teeming crowds of people weaving between them, and countless nooks and crannies hiding tantalizing secrets for those who stumble upon them, “the city that never sleeps” was given that nickname for millions of reasons. As much as any city can have a pulse, New York has one of the most stubborn heartbeats in the world. So when it ground to a halt in March as the novel coronavirus swept through, it wasn’t just devastating, but downright eerie. New York City, constantly brimming over with life in all its beautiful and grotesque forms, wasn’t built to be put on pause.
HBO’s “How to With John Wilson” captures this heartbreaking dichotomy with breathtaking, evenhanded, and even hilarious accuracy. Over six episodes, the last of which aired Nov. 27, John Wilson’s...

“How To with John Wilson” is a show filled with mistakes. They’re the kind of slight variations on the New York crowds that you rarely see in standard backlot scene: an honest misstep, an out-of-nowhere animal, or an out-of-place, eye-grabbing accessory. There are plenty of times when Wilson, the show’s director/co-writer/Dp/narrator, films something slip from his non-filming hand. Those slip-ups aren’t so much a crack in the new HBO show’s facade but the facade itself. Camping out at documentary’s edge, “How To with John Wilson” is an exercise in documenting the everyday highs and lows, especially when that means embracing the unexpected.

When my children were younger, they loved a series of books by Laura Numeroff and illustrator Felicia Bond with titles like If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Each book follows an animal along a series of random adventures where one thing leads to another (the cookie makes the mouse thirsty for milk), then another (the milk prompts him to check his reflection to see if he has a milk mustache), then another (he realizes his whiskers need a trim), until he inevitably, improbably returns to the moment it all started.
