Glad-handing is a competitive sport, one that’s all but impossible to win with both paws buried in a seafood tower. Such is the eternal conundrum of the awards season party circuit. These are celebrations, sure, yet the pressure to network, posture and kiss any proverbial ring that may be offered so often undermines that most basic of human urges: to cobble together a meal from passed hors d’oeuvres — especially after enduring a three-hour screening or even longer awards show on an empty stomach. It shouldn’t be so hard! And, thankfully, it needn’t be. By keeping a few helpful tips in mind — and, when the moments arise, in hand — any industry party can be professionally productive and filling.

The magazine's star-filled soiree has been held at the Sunset Boulevard venue since 2009.
The most star-studded Academy Awards afterparty is decamping for new digs -- possibly in a parking lot, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Vanity Fair's March 2, 2014, event -- considered one of the most sought-after tickets during awards season -- will not be held at Sunset Tower, site of the magazine's glittery Oscar party since 2009. Instead, Vf editor Graydon Carter is said to be eyeing an outdoor parking facility on nearby Sunset Plaza, a West Hollywood parcel boasting sweeping city views similar to those of the hotel the publication is leaving behind. Sunset Tower owner Jeff Klein recently informed his staff of Carter's decision, according to a source.
Klein declined to comment. Vanity Fair did not respond immediately to a request for comment.

Not getting the treatment she's used to, Lindsay Lohan was denied entry at the Sunset Tower Hotel in Hollywood, CA over the weekend.
The “Georgia Rule” star was told by the hotel that there was “no room” when trying to get in. "The front desk manager told Lindsay they were full," a source told. “But she wouldn’t take no for an answer and kept insisting the Internet said there was room." According to the hotel's website, there was in fact, availability.
Not taking the news well, LiLo tried another way. “She even insisted the front desk call the owner Jeff Klein, but he was not available, and was again told, "Sorry, no room" so she then stormed off.”
Meanwhile, friends of the actress say she is trying to dig herself out of her hole. “Lindsay finally realizes the seriousness of the situation she faces. She doesn’t want to...

Photograph by Hamish Robertson. Jeff Klein's Sunset Tower Hotel is thrumming with activity: everywhere you look, brawny workers are lifting, hauling, and arranging as part of a grand concerted effort to transform the Terrace Bar and pool area into the site of the year's most glamorous party. In just a few hours, Oscar winners and A-listers will be lounging about, blissfully ignorant of how much work went into feathering this particular nest. That's just the way we like it, but we also wanted to share a few secrets with our loyal Vf.com readers. So here are some snapshots of the past 48 hours of setup.
