Warigami is a ten-part series, consisting of ten minute episodes that is a contemporary samurai saga. Wendy Ohata, played by Piggford, has just made three startling realizations: One, she has a twin brother; two, she’s a kami-jin – a descendent of an ancient Japanese people who can turn paper into deadly weapons; and three, there’s a kami-jin warrior hunting her down for reasons she doesn’t understand.
The series is created by Eddie Kim and directed by Jason Lapeyre, who directed Lifetime’s Who Killed Jon Benet?, with showrunner Andrew Allen, who worked on digital drama Rush: Inspired By Battlefield. Kai Bradbury (The Terror), Akiel Julien (The Next Step), Miho Suzuki (Colossal), and David Hewlett (Stargate: Atlantis) also star.
It is produced by First Love Films and distributed by New Form.

Capping off a busy night for awards in the run-up to the 87th annual Oscars, the Cinema Audio Society (Cas) awarded the sound mixing team of "Birdman" top honors Saturday night. "Sherlock," "Game of Thrones" and "Modern Family" won in the TV categories. Clint Eastwood's war film "American Sniper" is considered the favorite to win the comparable Best Sound Mixing Oscar, though "Birdman" was nominated by the Academy's sound branch as well and, indeed, could be formidable if it is the industry favorite the guild awards have suggested it is so far. "Whiplash," also Oscar-nominated, won the BAFTA prize. "Interstellar" and "Unbroken" are also up for the Academy Award, each of them nominated by Cas as well. Six of the last eight Cas winners have won the sound mixing Oscar. Check out the full list of Cas winners below, nominees here and the rest of the season's offerings at The Circuit.

Hollywood’s sound pros nominated Birdman and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes for three awards apiece as the Motion Picture Sound Editors unveiled nods for its 62nd Mpse Golden Reel Awards, honoring the best feature film, television, animation and computer entertainment work of the year.
“2014 was a fantastic year for sound,” said Mpse president Frank Morrone. “The advent of new distribution channels, streaming services and gaming platforms is creating additional opportunities for sound artists to practice their craft beyond the traditional venues of film and television. This year’s nominations reflect that change, spanning an amazing diversity of mediums and genres, all executed at the highest level of creativity. We are truly inspired and impressed by the work of our colleagues.”

Complaints about the sound mix on Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” clearly didn’t have much influence on the members of the Cinema Audio Society, who on Tuesday made the film one of the five nominees for the best feature-film sound mix of 2014.
“Interstellar” joined “American Sniper,” “Birdman,” “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Unbroken” in receiving nominations for the 2014 Cas Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing, which will be presented on Feb. 14 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel.

Nominations have been announced for the 51st annual Cinema Audio Society Awards, and as ever with this group lately, there are a few surprises. For instance, "Unbroken" made the cut despite being mostly ignored by the guilds and industry groups so far, and Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" showed up as well. The biggest jaw-dropper might just be that after months of being the poster child for sound complaints, somehow, some way, "Interstellar" ended up in the mix (no pun intended). There are always one or two that drop out, however. Last year, for example, another Marvel movie — "Iron Man 3" — was chalked up here. But it fell out in favor of "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" with the Academy. I find myself wondering if "The Battle of the Five Armies" could make the cut this year as it's even more of an action/sound film than the last.

From zombie outbreaks to food poisoning, here's our selection of the 10 unluckiest fictional airline companies in cinema...
You rarely see real-life airline companies in movies, and for good reason - planes in the movies are always being overrun by snakes, art thieves, the undead, and that actor who plays Hercule Poirot.
Film airline companies are so unlucky, in fact, that even the best efforts of Hollywood's finest actors, heart-throbs and action heroes - from Brad Pitt to Bruce Willis, and Jack Lemmon to Mark Hamill - can't stop their planes from dropping out of the sky or getting into some kind of mishap or other.
To this end, here's a far-from-exhaustive look at what we think are the 10 unluckiest airlines in cinema...

Japan's most downloaded app is coming to America, and it is utilizing a similarly ascendant social media platform to announce its arrival. Line, an instant message service with more than 200 million users, has teamed up with nine top Vine creators for a series of branded videos promoting its increased presence in the Us. Each video in the series will feature Line, which is most notable for its emoji-like 'stickers' that are often scattered throughout chats. The first Vine, from Meagan Cignoli, makes liberal use of these stickers. The other Viners featured in the series include Jordan Burt, Kc James, Jessi Smiles, Eric Dunn, Robby Ayala, Drose, and Curtis Lepore. All of these creators are involved with Collab, the La studio working with Line to run the promotion. Video games and movies, for better or worse, seem to be a natural pairing for artistic crossover by virtue of their shared heritage in the moving image family. Theater, on the other hand, with its emphasis on the synergy between live humans to create once-in-lifetime performances, may not seem to be a great fit for a medium focused primarily on disembodied entertainment.
But that kind of fusion's exactly what's happening at the Brick Theater, the Brooklyn art space that will host the second annual Game Play Theater Festival, where performers try to meld live acting with elements of video game play over the span of three weeks. Game Play's the brainchild of Gyda Arber, a New York City-based theater actress and director.
This year, Game Play will stage five productions from July 9th through the 25th. Eddie Kim's "Grand Theft Ovid" uses machinima to adapt some of the ancient Roman playwright's stories,...
