The upcoming film The Life of Chuck is the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – but it is not a horror movie. Flanagan has let it be known that this isn’t horror, and cast member David Dastmalchian has said the same in a new interview with Gizmodo, describing the film and elements in it as beautiful and heartbreaking.
Dastmalchian, who was also in the recent King adaptation The Boogeyman, said (with thanks to Coming Soon for the transcription), “It’s beautiful. You think, ‘Oh, Mike Flanagan, Stephen King, this thing’s going to just be the most horrifying, terrifying, thing you’ve ever seen.’ [But] it is so beautifully rendered, heartfelt, the drama, the performances. The cast in this is deep.

During an interview last week, Tom Hiddleston (Loki) confirmed that his work on the film The Life of Chuck – the latest Stephen King adaptation from Mike Flanagan, who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – was complete. Flanagan has since taken to social media to confirm that filming has wrapped completely… and to let us know that The Life of Chuck is not a horror movie. Which makes sense, since we’ve previously heard that the movie will be similar in tone to the likes of Stand By Me, The Shawshank Redemption, and The Green Mile (and Hiddleston himself compared it to The Shawshank Redemption).

Mike Flanagan (Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep) is headed back into the world of Stephen King with The Life of Chuck, and Flanagan has announced that production has wrapped.
Perhaps what’s more notable here is that Flanagan’s announcement thread highlights what to expect. Or rather, what not to expect: The Life of Chuck won’t be a horror movie.
That’s probably not a surprise to those familiar with the source short story from King’s 2020 anthology If It Bleeds. The Life of Chuck is three separate stories linked together to tell the biography of Charles Krantz in reverse, beginning with his death from a brain tumor at 39 and ending with his childhood in a supposedly haunted house.
Flanagan said, “Now I’m back to LA to edit (cannot wait), and start the long road of expectation setting that The Life of Chuck isn’t a horror movie.” The...

Mike Flanagan – who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – recently went into production on another King adaptation, The Life of Chuck… and now, during an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, star Tom Hiddleston (Loki) has confirmed that his work on the film has been completed. While talking about the film, Hiddleston also compared it to one of the most popular King adaptations, The Shawshank Redemption!

Horror enthusiasts have another reason to celebrate as Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Life of Chuck‘ takes shape. Initially teasing fans with big names such as Tom Hiddleston, Mark Hamill, and Karen Gillan, the excitement intensified with the inclusion of horror legends Heather Langenkamp and Matthew Lillard.
It’s interesting to note that this isn’t the first collaboration between Flanagan and Langenkamp. They previously teamed up for Netflix’s ‘The Midnight Club,’ which aired back in 2022. While Langenkamp’s return to Flanagan’s fold has garnered attention, the addition of Matthew Lillard, famed for roles in ‘Scream’ and ‘Thirteen Ghosts,’ further beefs up the roster.
And the surprises don’t end there. Mia Sara, remembered fondly from ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Out,’ makes a significant comeback after a hiatus from the limelight. Others joining the project include David Dastmalchian, Harvey Guillén, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Antonio Raul Corbo,...

When it was first announced that Mike Flanagan – who has previously been at the helm of the Stephen King adaptations Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep (and is also developing a series adaptation of The Dark Tower for Amazon Studios) – would be directing another King adaptation, The Life of Chuck, there were two actors already attached to the project: Tom Hiddleston (Loki) and Mark Hamill (Star Wars). Once filming got underway in Alabama earlier this month (the independent production was able to secure a SAG interim agreement that allows it to film while the Screen Actors Guild strike is still going on), it was revealed that Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy), and Jacob Tremblay (The Predator) are also in the cast. And now Flanagan has taken to social media to reveal the names of the rest of the characters – a list that includes A Nightmare on Elm Street...

Vasquez, 38, shared that the last she spoke to the star over the phone was “probably a few months ago, but we text often.”

Actor Q’orianka Kilcher has been cleared of allegations that she illegally collected 96,838 in workers compensation benefits.
Kilcher, who has appeared on “Yellowstone” and starred in the Terrence Malick film “The New World,” was charged last spring with two felony counts of insurance fraud.
Kilcher was injured while filming “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” in 2018. The California Department of Insurance later alleged that she had worked on “Yellowstone” during a time when she claimed her injury made it impossible for her to work.
But a Los Angeles judge threw out the charges on Friday after prosecutors announced that they could not proceed with the case.
“After the charges were filed, the Workers Compensation Insurance claims adjuster retroactively changed his conclusion regarding her ability to work,” a D.A. spokesperson said in a statement. “We therefore determined that Ms. Kilcher did not commit insurance fraud and advised the court that we were unable to proceed.

Colin Farrell has the Brad Pitt curse; he has the talent of a character actor but he's too hot to be anything but a leading man. As such, Hollywood didn't quite know what to do with him during his breakout in the 2000s.
I'd point to two directors who best understand how to use Farrell. First, there's the man who discovered him: Joel Schumacher. In their second collaboration, "Phone Booth," Farrell played Stu Shepard, a sleazy PR operative who has to confront his sins. Some early proof he was more than just a pretty boy.
Then there's Martin McDonagh, director of "In Bruges" which is, for my money, still Farrell's best movie. When I watched Farrell play Ray, a fledgling hitman hiding out in Belgium after a job gone wrong, I realized what a great, and hilarious, actor he can be. The resulting story is the funniest movie ever made...

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 6
Last week it finally became clear what this rather aimless and slow-paced season of Yellowstone has been all about. Taylor Sheridan, who has written every word this season so far, is preparing a eulogy to read when the cowboy way of life is dead and gone. Don’t be fooled either, the death rattle is already being heard, it’s simply that Sheridan wants to put a megaphone in front of it so it quakes anyone within earshot.
The problem being, most of his audience has already heard the rattle, at least five times already this season.
“Cigarettes, Whiskey, a Meadow and You” begins as you’d expect, with the Montana skyline as a section of the Dutton family including John (Kevin Costner), Beth (Kelly Reilly), and Rip (Cole Hauser) catch the sunrise over the mountains preparing for the round up and eventual branding of their cattle.

Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser in ‘Yellowstone’ season 5 episode 6
Paramount Network’s Yellowstone season five episode six divides its time between the gathering, Jamie’s troubling relationship with Sarah, and preparation for a visit by the President of the United States. The episode also showcases the beauty of the land, and it gives Kelly Reilly a chance to play a different, seldom-seen side of Beth Dutton.
However, before we get to the little-seen side of Beth, we’re served up Beth with a bad attitude. In fact, her approach to the gathering is so negative that she’s ruining the experience for her dad as the episode begins. She thinks there’s too much open space and prefers more intimate, secluded settings – like a hidden meadow. Rip (Cole Hauser) understands exactly what she means because he’s just that type of guy.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers from Season 5, Episode 6, of “Yellowstone,” “Cigarettes, Whiskey, a Meadow and Fog,” which premiered Sunday, Dec. 11 on Paramount Network.
Last week’s “Yellowstone” was memorable for Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Summer (Piper Perabo) getting into a brutal brawl. At the episode’s end, many of the Duttons saddled up and headed to The Gather in order to brand some cattle. This week’s show is a relatively quiet, meditative take on the cowboy lifestyle. On with the recap:
I can’t tell if Beth’s “I don’t like to share the things I find beautiful” monologue is romantic and profound, or the ramblings of someone who just took a big bong rip. Who are these psychotic Secret Service police officers shooting dogs on the Reservation? The president must be protected, sure, but isn’t this a nightmare if the press finds out? How is the U.

Yellowstone Season 5 premieres with a double episode on Sunday night, and once again, I was lucky enough to sit down with much of the cast for a look ahead to the new season. Of course, given how twisty the show is, everyone was pretty tightlipped about what to expect, but from what they told me, I expect major changes in store for the Dutton family this season.
One of the most prominent threads open from last season was Kayce’s (Luke Grimes) and Monica’s (Kelsey Asbille) ultimate fate, with the season ending with the former going on a vision quest that showed him “the end of us.” I asked Grimes if Kayce was talking about him and Monica or the Duttons in general, and he mentioned that Taylor Sheridan left things deliberately vague. However, he teased a significant event at the end of the premiere, which would change things for Kayce and Monica,...
