Indian actor Vipin Sharma is earning global acclaim for playing a trans character in Dev Patel’s feature directorial debut “Monkey Man.”
Sharma plays Alpha, the leader of a trans community known in India as hijras, who is instrumental in providing a new lease on life to Patel’s character when he’s down and out in “Monkey Man.”
Aamir Khan’s “Taare Zameen Par” (2007) was Sharma’s breakthrough role, and since then he has won plaudits for “Paan Singh Tomar,” “Gangs of Wasseypur” and “Shahid” (all 2012), “Raanjhanaa” (2013), “Raman Raghav 2.0” (2016), “Paatal Lok” (2020) and “Dear Jassi” (2023).
When director Anthony Maras offered Sharma a role in “Hotel Mumbai” (2018), starring Patel, the actor accepted. “He said, ‘It’s not a very big part, but it’s a very interesting part.’ I immediately took it because it was going to make me meet Dev who I really wanted to meet,” Sharma tells Variety.

A “terrifying” satire on Hulu about a not so adorable pooch.

Maggie is at a crux. She is fired from the job, undergoes hormone treatment to have her eggs extracted and frozen, is on the dating scene in search of Mr. Perfect, and while she awaits all the grand events in her life to happen, she recurs to mindfulness and to adopting a sweet emotional support pooch. Are you ready for the event of the season?
Yes, I'm talking about the first time three Hallmark Hunks, as they're called, take the screen together.
In Three Wise Men and a Baby, Andrew Walker, Tyler Hynes, and Paul Campbell give brotherhood a try, with a little adorable baby sprinkled on top. What's not to love?
If you read our interview with Margaret Colin about the movie, you know that this Christmas movie leans funny.
And really, you've seen plenty of Hallmark movies, so you probably think that you've seen them go funny already.
Could it really be as funny as I'm suggesting?
What you need to remember is that Three Wise Men and a Baby is a first.
It's the first time that three of Hallmark's biggest male stars -- Walker, Hynes, and Campbell -- share the same real estate, and these guys are having a ball.

Despite the star wattage of A-listers Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar, the underwhelming box office performance of “Forrest Gump” adaptation “Laal Singh Chaddha” and “Raksha Bandhan,” respectively, have set the alarm bells ringing in Bollywood.
Both films released on Aug. 11. The date was tailor-made for “Raksha Bandhan,” a film about brother-sister relationships, as it coincided with the festival of Raksha Bandhan, which celebrates siblinghood. Headlined by Kumar, one of India’s most bankable stars, the film, which was made on a budget of approximately 9 million, has collected some 6 million in a week of release, according to industry estimates.
The numbers are starker for “Laal Singh Chaddha.” Khan headlined three of India’s all-time box office champions, including No. 1 “Dangal” (311 million); No. 6 “Secret Superstar” (154 million), by “Laal Singh Chaddha” director Advait Chandan; and No. 7 “Pk” (140 million). However, his last release, 2018’s “Thugs of Hindostan,” also underperformed.

In this digital age, where we are constantly checking our device every fifteen minutes, it’s hard to imagine life without it! But superstar Aamir Khan does the unthinkable – The actor has decided to turn off his cell phone till the release of Laal Singh Chaddha.
The decision to forgo his phone stemmed from the fact that the actor felt it constantly interfered with the manner in which he conducts his work.
While it’s well known that Aamir Khan gets under the skin of his characters like none other and fully surrenders to the projects he is working on, he doesn’t want his phone to become a hindrance while he does the same with Laal Singh Chaddha and hence takes this step.
The film is by far the most anticipated release this year and keeping to tradition, this Aamir Khan starrer will release on Christmas like the superstar’s other blockbusters.

This leads to him spoiling his relations with his ex-wife and his brother-in-law.
