As Fire Country's second season continues to heat up, the show's central characters are being put through the wringer like never before.
And that means, of course, that the series' stars are facing new challenges in terms of heart-rending drama and pulse-pounding action sequences, some of which are unlike anything that's ever been attempted on network television.
We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Jordan Calloway, who plays firefighter Jake Crawford, for a conversation about his character, his career, and what the future holds for Fire Country.
Jordan, of course, is no newcomer to the world of television.
He got his start on the Nickelodeon sitcom Unfabulous way back in 2004, and his role on Black Lightning made him an important figure in the CW's Arrowverse.

The actress, who gave birth to a second son last year, enthuses, “It was nice to have that time at home with our newborn and be in that cocoon, but then it was really nice to come out of that and feel like, ‘Ok, I’m back in society and working and having some adult time.’” Khalil, who started on the show in 2002, received a warm welcome when she came back to film on her first day. “I thought, ‘Oh, people here actually like me,’ ” she laughs. “Everyone was like, ‘We missed you. We didn’t realize how much we missed you until you were gone,’ and I was like, ‘Oh, thank you!’ ” While Lily was away visiting daughter Mattie, Daniel (Michael Graziadei) slept with his ex, Heather...

As previously reported, Christel Khalil is back taping at “The Young and the Restless” as Lily Winters, and now we finally know when she’ll officially be back in Genoa City!
When we last saw Lily, she rushed out of town in December to be with her daughter Mattie, who had been among several (fictional) Standford University students trapped on campus by a wildfire that surrounded them. The storyline was written to explain Khalil’s absence as she had gone on maternity leave in real life after revealing in a June 2023 Instagram post that she was pregnant with her second child, her first with fiancé Sam Restagno — Khalil also has a son, Michael Caden, from a previous relationship.
Although an exact date of birth for the couple’s child has not been shared, Khalil did indicate in a November 2023 Instagram post that they were expecting a boy. The post highlighted...

It’s been over two months since fans last saw Christel Khalil on “The Young and the Restless” as Lily Winters, but the wait for her return is almost over!
Last week, in an Instagram story, Khalil posted a short but receptive message, captioning a photo of herself standing in a group shot alongside co-stars Bryton James (Devon) and Eric Braeden (Victor), which said, “Back At It!”
Although an on-air return date has not been announced, fans can at least look forward to seeing Khalil back in Genoa City soon, more than two months since her character departed to be with her daughter Mattie, who had been among several (fictional) Standford University students trapped on campus by a wildfire that surrounded them. Lily went to spend time with Mattie to support her as she dealt with the trauma.

When you catch your man in bed with a slimmer version of yourself, you might just fall to pieces — that is, if you didn’t have your best friends to prop you up. In Survival of the Thickest, out now on Netflix, fashion stylist Mavis’ best friends Khalil and Marley are her chosen family. They pack her bags, bolster her confidence (whether she’s prepping for a shot at styling Lizzo or a ’90s supermodel icon) and help her learn how to seize the love, happiness and success she deserves.
In the throes of a breakup and on the cusp of a career breakout, the delightfully down-to-earth Mavis catapults her way through a series of late nights and hilarious faux pas, surrounded by friends, lovers, boss bitches and the loving support of her neighborhood drag bar. Life has turned up the heat on her...

Michelle Buteau’s new TV series, adapted from her books of essays, is a refreshing take on our run-of-the-mill rom-com. The show is energetic and diverse—exactly the kind of thing Netflix needs to make more of! It is unfortunate that we got only eight short episodes of this easy-breezy binge-watch, so it would be so fantastic to see a second season real soon. Netflix hasn’t renewed the hot new show just yet, but we can imagine, with the majorly positive response it’s received, we’re likely to get a second season sooner than later. We’re so tired of seeing the same beauty standards and non-diverse media that we should definitely be encouraging such shows to be brought to the limelight and renewed. If you haven’t seen the show yet and just stumbled upon this article, check out our full review for reasons to watch Survival Of The Thickest.

When Mavis (Michelle Buteau) discovers her boyfriend of five years has been unfaithful, what stings almost as much as the betrayal is the narrative she imagines surrounding it. “If someone cheats on Halle Berry, they’re like, ‘Oh my God, how that man cheat on Halle Berry?'” she laments. “But if someone cheats on someone like me, a thick girl with problem areas? They’re like, ‘Oh yeah, I get it.'”
And though her best friend, Khalil (Tone Bell), gently pushes back on that “silly-ass narrative,” Mavis isn’t entirely wrong: Plus-sized women, and indeed all those who fall outside the straight-cis-white-skinny box, do tend to go ignored or sidelined or disrespected in love stories. Netflix’s Survival of the Thickest is a welcome and too-rare exception — a comedy that puts Mavis front and center as a worthy heroine, with mostly enjoyable results.

We wouldn’t be wrong to think Khalil is definitely everyone’s new favorite bestie in town. He’s funny, he’s understanding, he’s nice, and he’s also an artist! What more could a girl want in a best friend? And yes, he pulls off a mean fit and is very charming. Unlike the usual best friend-to-lover trope, we get to see Khalil grow as a separate person from Mavis, which is fantastic. We don’t get the crap about him being blind to how stunning she was the whole time, until a breakup or something like that woke him up from his daze, and now all he can think about is his best friend. Instead, we get a wonderfully supportive best friend who knows all the dirty details and still has boundaries.
Spoilers Ahead
Khalil, played by Tone Bell, is a simple character with many layers that he hides behind.

This is the kind of rom-com we’re looking for on Netflix every day. Survival Of The Thickest is the full package (if you know what I mean), and it’s delivering from start to finish. As someone who isn’t a big fan of comedy or standup, this show had just the right amount of humor mixed in with the serious issues, a pinch of romance, and adorable fashion to make a perfect balance (sounds like I’m describing the making of the Powerpuffs). With no prior knowledge of Michelle Buteau, I was absolutely hooked on her jokes and comic timing. Just like her fashion choices, which are boisterous, the show is a perfect reflection of who she really is. Michelle is the star of the show for sure, and I’d be happy to keep coming back, even if it’s just to feel the positive, uplifting energy she radiates.

Bomba Estéreo has made an impact since catapulting onto the global music scene in 2015 with their album "Amanecer" and the hit single "Fiesta," featuring Will Smith. While they've been nominated several times over the years for Grammys, Latin Grammys, and Billboard Music Awards, they have yet to take home a trophy. This year could be their year: Bomba Estéreo is up for four Latin Grammy nominations, including album of the year for "Deja" and record of the year for "Ojitos Lindos," a collaboration with the biggest Latinx star today, Bad Bunny. They're also nominated for a Latin Grammy in the category of best Latin rock, urban, or alternative album for "Deja." Even more, they've solidified themselves as a force behind the scenes, garnering lead singer Liliana Saumet and multi-instrumentalist Simón Mejía with album of the year nominations for a second time: Saumet as a songwriter on Bad Bunny's "Un Verano Sin Ti,...

Comcast Spectacor, the cable and entertainment giant’s sports and esports division, told G4 TV employees Sunday that the gaming network was shutting down effective immediately. The decision has resulted in 45 staff members of G4 TV losing their jobs.
In a memo, obtained by Variety, Comcast Spectacor chairman and CEO Dave Scott cited low viewership and said the network had not achieved “sustainable financial results.”
“Over the past several months, we worked hard to generate that interest in G4, but viewership is low and the network has not achieved sustainable financial results,” Scott wrote. “This is certainly not what we hoped for, and, as a result, we have made the very difficult decision to discontinue G4’s operations, effective immediately.“
Comcast Spectacor in July 2020 said it would reboot G4 TV, which NBCUniversal shut down in 2013 (after the network first launched in 2002). Russell Arons, the former Warner Bros.,...

Fipresci Jury Award-winning “A Gaza Weekend” made a splash at Toronto International Film Festival last week. Public and press alike flocked towards theaters for this film’s premiere weekend; each screening was packed. The film’s release could not have been more timely. Written during the swine flu and released after the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, British-Palestinian Basil Khalil pokes fun at plague paranoia in his narrative feature debut. In this punchy family-friendly comedy of the Gaza Strip, any and all traditional power hierarchies are out the window for the sake of survival.
A Gaza Weekend is screening at Toronto International Film Festival
Like many films about Palestine, “A Gaza Weekend” follows the trajectory of a refugee couple – though this time, they’re from Israel. Englishman Michael (Stephen Mangan) and his Israeli partner Keren (Mouna Hawa) are desperate to leave the country after the outbreak of a new deadly Ars virus.

Films can be given life or put to death in Cannes. Many are born from meetings there. But very few are dreamed up in a rush on the beach while trying to impress an industry exec. A Gaza Weekend is a rare exception, beginning its unlikely journey at the 2009 edition of the festival, where Basil Khalil was casually asked by a sales agent what project he was working on next.
“And I had absolutely nothing,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. Not wanting to admit his creative shortcomings, the British-Palestinian filmmaker quickly came up with a project off the top of his head. “Swine flu had been in the news at the time, so I just said, ‘Ok, so there’s a virus in Israel and the only safe place is Gaza.’ And that’s all I had.” And did it have a name?...

Director Basil Khalil and co-writer Daniel Ka-Chun Chan waste no time setting the tone for their Middle Eastern comedy A Gaza Weekend. Conceived over a decade ago, its purpose is to satirize the very real conflict between Palestinians and Israelis to its most absurd extremes while also finding the common ground of humanity hiding beneath—much like Khalil’s enjoyable, Oscar-nominated short Ave Maria. As such, watching a scientist carelessly mill about an Israeli infectious disease center is less about her obvious lack of protocol and more about the color of her skin. Why? Because it means the country, despite being ground zero for a deadly disease, can absolve itself by blaming an Arab.
And what’s the point of making Israel the epicenter for a cataclysmic pandemic if you don’t also render Gaza the safest place on Earth? The reason: Israel has blocked the area off with walls...

When it comes to video games, Jirard Khalil likes to be thorough. Some players are willing to put down the controller after beating the final boss, but Khalil doesn't quit until he's collected 100 of the items and completed 100 of the missions that are available to him. That thorough approach has earned him the moniker The Completionist -- and 1.5 million YouTube subscribers to go with it.
Khalil's dedication to the games he plays has not gone unnoticed, and in 2020, a cable channel hit him up. The G4TV network was planning its revival, and it wanted The Completionist to serve as one of its primary on-air hosts. Two years later, G4 is back on the airwaves, and Khalil appears on some of its flagship programs, including Attack of the Show and X-Play. Now, he's branching out even more by launching God of Work, a mockumentary that imagines what The Office would...

In the wake of the great success of the 2016 mini-series “The Night Manager”, adapted from a novel by John le Carré, the BBC, in collaboration with the American AMC, produced another mini-series, “The Little Drummer Girl”, also adapted from a 1983 novel by Le Carré, and directed by well-known internationally acclaimed South Korean director Park Chan-wook.

The novel is a classic spy story and was previously brought to the big screen by George Roy Hill in a 1984 film starring Diane Keaton, Yorgo Voyagis and Klaus Kinski. This new adaptation has faithfully adhered to the original, condensing the 600 and more pages of the book into 6 episodes of approximately one hour each. Justin Bieber's blood alcohol level was too low for many to believe that he was as impaired as cops reported when they booked him for a DUI on Thursday. Bieber seems to agree, as he’s reportedly ignored the advice of his team to carry on partying in Miami.
Justin Bieber's Low Blood Alcohol Level
Although it was initially reported that Bieber’s Bac was .04, it was later learned that it was significantly less, registering at just .014, according to TMZ. On the gossip site and elsewhere, the argument is being made that the Bac reading and the officer’s description of Bieber’s condition at the scene are contradictory.
“I immediately smelled an odor of alcohol emanating from the driver’s breath and bloodshot eyes,” read the police report. “The driver had slow deliberate movements and a stuper [sic] look on his face. These are all indicators of an impaired driver.
