While Mutants have appeared in several MCU films, the X-Men have not yet made their debut. Although it may take some time before they do, fans have been promised a significant moment in the future.

We believe that Feige and Marvel are committed to getting this right. While details remain scarce, the X-Men’s entrance into the MCU will be monumental and will shape the franchise for years to come.

As a result, fans are buzzing with speculation about potential casting for the X-Men characters. While it’s been hinted that Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart might reprise their roles in the MCU, other characters remain a mystery.

The end credits of "Deadpool & Wolverine" feature clips from past "X-Men" movies, set to Green Day's misunderstood break-up song "Good Riddance." Marvel Studios is prepping the merry mutants to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so the era of early "X-Men" films is over. But are these movies really worth celebrating?

Look, I like some of the "X-Men" movies on their own terms. "Logan" is a gem; I even think director James Mangold's first mutant rodeo, "The Wolverine," is underrated. "X2" is solid, despite being a much-less complex story than its source material, "God Loves, Man Kills" by Chris Claremont and Brent Anderson. I like the story about Charles (James McAvoy) and Erik (Michael Fassbender) buried inside "X-Men: First Class." And "X-Men: Days of Future Past" has some of the best silver screen superhero action ever.

But as I dive deeper into the comics,...

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was influenced by Marvel's Kitty Pryde, creating a successful lead character template. X-Men: The Last Stand botched Kitty Pryde's character, receiving poor reviews compared to Buffy's success. Both Buffy and Kitty are young women with supernatural powers, but Buffy explored empowering themes better.

Joss Whedon has confirmed that the biggest influence on Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a beloved comic book character who got botched in her official movie adaptation in 2006. Described as a cross between My So-Called Life and The X-Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer combines the relatable adolescent foibles of a teen drama with the spooky terror of a monster-infested supernatural horror series. It arrived as a totally unique gem in the television landscape, but it took a disparate range of inspirations to bring the show together.

Even after all the years since "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" premiered in 1997 — even with the recent controversy surrounding creator Joss Whedon — even as dated as some of the content and jokes are, the show endures as the forebearer to so many TV and film heroines. Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell), Wynonna Earp (Melanie Scrofano), and Bo (Anna Silk) from "Lost Girl" all owe quite a bit to Buffy Summers.

Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) herself was influenced by a comic book character — Kitty Pryde of X-Men fame. Whedon called her "a huge proto-Buffy" in a 2005 interview with Time and "the mother of Buffy" in a Wired article from 2012. If any other Buffy fans want to take a moment to pour one out for Joyce Summers (Kristine Sutherland) — Buffy's actual mother — who died unceremoniously in the powerful episode "The Body," please do. I still have to skip that one during my rewatches of the series.

According to reports, "Deadpool" director Tim Miller is developing an "X-Men" spin-off feature, based around the Marvel Comics' character 'Kitty Pryde' aka 'Shadowcat':

Bryan Singer has sent fans a new photo from the set of X-Men: Days of Future Past via his Twitter, giving us our first look at Kitty Pryde.

Kitty Pryde was portrayed by three different actresses throughout the X-Men film franchise. Sumela Kay starred in the 2000 original, Katie Stuart had a brief cameo as Pryde in the 2003 sequel while Ellen Page portrayed Kitty Pryde as a far more used character in the third film, X-Men: The Last Stand. Page will return to reprise her role again for the upcoming sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class.

Based on the classic “Days of Future Past” comic book storyline written by Chris Claremont, the plot for the film will involving time travel and an alternate future in which mutants are hunted down by robotic Sentinels and placed in internment camps.

"X-Men: Days of Future Past" has become like a high school reunion for past graduates from Dr. Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

Director Bryan Singer has reunited most of the cast from the original two "X-Men" films that he directed with actors from Brett Ratner's "X-Men: The Last Stand" and Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: First Class" for the new film. That means Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are sharing the same IMDb page as Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence. (The "X-Men: Days of Future Past" storyline deals with time travel and alternate dimensions, which accounts for the presence of old and young "X-Men" characters.)

Singer has frequently used Twitter during the "X-Men" production process to break news about the film (sometimes, ahem, false news), and the director took to social media once again on Friday to unveil a first look at Ellen Page's "X-Men" return.

No actress has ever played Kitty "Shadowcat" Pryde in a live-action X-Men movie more than once. In the two X-Men movies she was played Sumela Kay and Katie Stuart (who had about twenty seconds of screen time each); and in X-Men: The Last Stand it was Ellen Page, who finally gave the character a chance to be more than background. Now that director Bryan Singer is bringing back the trilogy cast for X-Men: Days of Future Past, however, he has broken that streak - as seen in the above set photo. Maybe it’s the fault of The Avengers, but another Marvel Comics movie franchise seems to be trying to throw together as many heroes together as possible. The 20th Century Fox superhero sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past is turning into an X-Men reunion, with Bryan Singer set to direct and Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen already confirmed to return along with Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman.

Today, we have an intriguing report that X-Men stars Halle Berry (Storm) and James Marsden (Cyclops) are also being sought to return for this sequel to last year's X-Men: First Class.

It isn't clear if 20th Century Fox has issued formal offers to the actors, or any of the other X-Men stars. It isn't known if others such as Anna Paquin (Rogue) are being sought to reprise their roles, but there is said to be a lot of "willingness to participate" because of director Bryan Singer returning to the helm. The X-Men stars will reportedly appear in scenes that show a dystopic, alternate future, with Kitty Pryde playing a major role in the action.

Doug Benson produced another »Doug Loves Movies« podcast in front of a live audience at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles and welcomed Ellen Page, Steve Agee, James Gunn, Sean Gunn and Michael Rooker last Tuesday. Although all five guests were involved in »Super«, they only spoke briefly about the movie, praising Ellen's amazing performance and mentioning the successful VOD release.
