Fans Respond to Reddit User’s Brilliant Proposal for ‘X-Men’ Recasting!
Image
The MCU will soon officially introduce the Mutants into its narrative. This news isn’t new; fans have anticipated it since Disney acquired Fox, which is why they’re eager for updates.

While Mutants have appeared in several MCU films, the X-Men have not yet made their debut. Although it may take some time before they do, fans have been promised a significant moment in the future.

We believe that Feige and Marvel are committed to getting this right. While details remain scarce, the X-Men’s entrance into the MCU will be monumental and will shape the franchise for years to come.

As a result, fans are buzzing with speculation about potential casting for the X-Men characters. While it’s been hinted that Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart might reprise their roles in the MCU, other characters remain a mystery.

One particularly intriguing fan casting suggestion has emerged for Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat,...

Reddit User Proposes Brilliant ‘X-Men’ Recast, the Fans React
Image
The MCU will officially welcome the Mutants into its stories very soon. Naturally, this is nothing new—we’ve known this since Disney bought Fox—which is why the fans are eager to find out more as soon as possible.

Sure, Mutants have already appeared in the MCU in several movies, as the fans will point out, but the X-Men have not, and while it will be some time before they actually do, we’ve been promised a major moment in the future.

Now, we are convinced that Feige and Marvel want to do this right, even if we don’t know all the details, because the X-Men’s MCU debut will be momentous and will impact the franchise for years to come.

In light of that, the fans are constantly talking about potential casting choices for the X-Men characters, and while it has been implied that Hugh Jackman...

The Marvel Characters The X-Men Movies Screwed Over The Most, Ranked
Image
This post contains spoilers for "Deadpool & Wolverine."

The end credits of "Deadpool & Wolverine" feature clips from past "X-Men" movies, set to Green Day's misunderstood break-up song "Good Riddance." Marvel Studios is prepping the merry mutants to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so the era of early "X-Men" films is over. But are these movies really worth celebrating?

Look, I like some of the "X-Men" movies on their own terms. "Logan" is a gem; I even think director James Mangold's first mutant rodeo, "The Wolverine," is underrated. "X2" is solid, despite being a much-less complex story than its source material, "God Loves, Man Kills" by Chris Claremont and Brent Anderson. I like the story about Charles (James McAvoy) and Erik (Michael Fassbender) buried inside "X-Men: First Class." And "X-Men: Days of Future Past" has some of the best silver screen superhero action ever.

But as I dive deeper into the comics,...

Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Success Makes A 57% "Rotten" Disappointment Look Even Worse
Image
Buffy the Vampire Slayer was influenced by Marvel's Kitty Pryde, creating a successful lead character template. X-Men: The Last Stand botched Kitty Pryde's character, receiving poor reviews compared to Buffy's success. Both Buffy and Kitty are young women with supernatural powers, but Buffy explored empowering themes better.

Joss Whedon has confirmed that the biggest influence on Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a beloved comic book character who got botched in her official movie adaptation in 2006. Described as a cross between My So-Called Life and The X-Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer combines the relatable adolescent foibles of a teen drama with the spooky terror of a monster-infested supernatural horror series. It arrived as a totally unique gem in the television landscape, but it took a disparate range of inspirations to bring the show together.

Whedon has named many influences on his creation of Buffy Summers, from the Alien franchises Ellen Ripley...

Joss Whedon Considers The X-Men's Kitty Pryde The 'Mother' Of Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Image
Even after all the years since "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" premiered in 1997 — even with the recent controversy surrounding creator Joss Whedon — even as dated as some of the content and jokes are, the show endures as the forebearer to so many TV and film heroines. Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell), Wynonna Earp (Melanie Scrofano), and Bo (Anna Silk) from "Lost Girl" all owe quite a bit to Buffy Summers.

Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) herself was influenced by a comic book character — Kitty Pryde of X-Men fame. Whedon called her "a huge proto-Buffy" in a 2005 interview with Time and "the mother of Buffy" in a Wired article from 2012. If any other Buffy fans want to take a moment to pour one out for Joyce Summers (Kristine Sutherland) — Buffy's actual mother — who died unceremoniously in the powerful episode "The Body," please do. I still have to skip that one during my rewatches of the series.

"Kitty Pryde"
"Deadpool" and "Terminator" director Tim Miller is developing an "X-Men" spin-off feature, scripted by Brian Michael Bendis, showcasing Marvel Comics' character 'Kitty Pryde' :

Kitty Pryde debuted in Marvel's "Uncanny X-Men" #129 (January 1980) created by John Byrne and Chris Claremont.

As a 'mutant', Pryde possesses a 'phasing' ability allowing her and objects or people she is in contact with, to become 'intangible'.

This power also disrupts electrical fields she passes through, while simulating levitation.

During the Marvel mini-series "Kitty Pryde and Wolverine" she is renamed 'Shadowcat' and after joining 'Guardians of the Galaxy', assumes her fiancé's superhero identity as 'Star-Lord'.

In the Fox "X-Men" film series, Pryde was portrayed by Sumela Kay in "X-Men" (2000), Katie Stuart in "X2" (2003), Ellen Page in "X-Men: The Last Stand" (2006) and "X-Men: Days of Future Past" (2014).

First Look at Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde in ‘Days of Future Past’
Bryan Singer has sent fans a new photo from the set of X-Men: Days of Future Past via his Twitter, giving us our first look at Kitty Pryde.

Kitty Pryde was portrayed by three different actresses throughout the X-Men film franchise. Sumela Kay starred in the 2000 original, Katie Stuart had a brief cameo as Pryde in the 2003 sequel while Ellen Page portrayed Kitty Pryde as a far more used character in the third film, X-Men: The Last Stand. Page will return to reprise her role again for the upcoming sequel to Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class.

Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, and Hugh Jackman in X-Men (2000)
Familiar Face Returns To 'X-Men'
Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, and Hugh Jackman in X-Men (2000)
"X-Men: Days of Future Past" has become like a high school reunion for past graduates from Dr. Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

Director Bryan Singer has reunited most of the cast from the original two "X-Men" films that he directed with actors from Brett Ratner's "X-Men: The Last Stand" and Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: First Class" for the new film. That means Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are sharing the same IMDb page as Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence. (The "X-Men: Days of Future Past" storyline deals with time travel and alternate dimensions, which accounts for the presence of old and young "X-Men" characters.)

Singer has frequently used Twitter during the "X-Men" production process to break news about the film (sometimes, ahem, false news), and the director took to social media once again on Friday to unveil a first look at Ellen Page's "X-Men" return.

X-Men: Days Of Future Past Set Photo Features The Return Of Ellen Page As Kitty Pryde
No actress has ever played Kitty "Shadowcat" Pryde in a live-action X-Men movie more than once. In the two X-Men movies she was played Sumela Kay and Katie Stuart (who had about twenty seconds of screen time each); and in X-Men: The Last Stand it was Ellen Page, who finally gave the character a chance to be more than background. Now that director Bryan Singer is bringing back the trilogy cast for X-Men: Days of Future Past, however, he has broken that streak - as seen in the above set photo. This image is just the latest that the filmmaker has posted on his Twitter feed -arriving with the message "Hello, Kitty @EllenPage #XMen #DaysofFuturePast" - and this is actually a two-for-one considering you can see Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) standing with Page. The details on the Shadowcat costume are fairly minimal, though it does look like she's wearing some kind...

Paquin On For X-Men: Days Of Future Past
Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, and Hugh Jackman in X-Men (2000)
Press releases? Bryan Singer don’t need no stinking press releases. Having already tipped off the world to the fact that Hugh Jackman will be bringing his claws back to the main X-Men fold for Days Of Future Past, the director has now tweeted that Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore and Ellen Page will all be on duty for the First Class sequel.Paquin played Rogue through the first three X-Men movies, helping to lead the audience into the world of the mutants in the first and flourishing into a full member of the team by The Last Stand.Ashmore was also present from the off, playing Bobby Drake, aka Iceman, whose frost-creating character fell hard for Rogue. Their relationship continued even though her power/life-draining abilities meant physical contact was problematic at best.Page was a late arrival compared to those two, taking over the role of Kitty Pryde (Shadowcat...

Past ‘X-Men’ Are Future as Rogue, Iceman and Kitty Pryde Actors Return for ‘Days of Future Past’
Maybe it’s the fault of The Avengers, but another Marvel Comics movie franchise seems to be trying to throw together as many heroes together as possible. We’ve been hearing for a while now that X-Men: Days of Future Past will connect the original X-Men trilogy with the 2011 prequel, X-Men: First Class, and in doing so director Bryan Singer is uniting all the old and new (or is that new and old?) characters for a massive mutant ensemble. The three latest additions to the cast, as announced by Singer via Twitter, are Anna Paquin (Rogue), Shawn Ashmore (Iceman) and Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat). The last time we saw these three was seven years ago, in X-Men: The Last Stand (not to be confused with the new Schwarzenegger vehicle), the third installment, which also saw Brett Ratner take the helm from Singer, who’d done the first two. In his tweet, Singer...

Ellen Page to Return as Kitty Pryde in X-Men: Days of Future Past; Anna Paquin Is Back as Rogue
Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Nicholas Hoult, Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Elliot Page, Michael Fassbender, Daniel Cudmore, Bingbing Fan, and Jennifer Lawrence in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014)
Man, Hugh Jackman wasn't kidding when he said that nearly every single actor who has ever suited up for an X-Men movie will be returning in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Director Bryan Singer is pulling out the stops when it comes to Mutant wrangling. The director has revealed that Anna Paquin, who starred in the first three films as Rogue, will be returning. But that's not the only good news!

Ellen Page is returning as Kitty Pryde! The character plays one of the most important roles in the comic book run upon which X-Men: Days of Future Past is based, and she will likely play just as important a role in the film version. This casting news hints that the project is on the right track.

Kitty Pryde was originally played by Sumela Kay in the first film, and by Katie Stuart in X2: X-Men United. But it was...

X-Men: Days of Future Past Wants Halle Berry and James Marsden
Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, and Hugh Jackman in X-Men (2000)
The 20th Century Fox superhero sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past is turning into an X-Men reunion, with Bryan Singer set to direct and Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen already confirmed to return along with Wolverine himself, Hugh Jackman.

Today, we have an intriguing report that X-Men stars Halle Berry (Storm) and James Marsden (Cyclops) are also being sought to return for this sequel to last year's X-Men: First Class.

It isn't clear if 20th Century Fox has issued formal offers to the actors, or any of the other X-Men stars. It isn't known if others such as Anna Paquin (Rogue) are being sought to reprise their roles, but there is said to be a lot of "willingness to participate" because of director Bryan Singer returning to the helm. The X-Men stars will reportedly appear in scenes that show a dystopic, alternate future, with Kitty Pryde playing a major role in the action.

Ellen Page and her »Super« buddies on »Doug Loves Movies« / 5th anniversary of »Ellen Page Online«
Doug Benson produced another »Doug Loves Movies« podcast in front of a live audience at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in Los Angeles and welcomed Ellen Page, Steve Agee, James Gunn, Sean Gunn and Michael Rooker last Tuesday. Although all five guests were involved in »Super«, they only spoke briefly about the movie, praising Ellen's amazing performance and mentioning the successful VOD release. Most of the time was spent playing the »Leonard Maltin Game«, a regular feature of the podcast, where Benson reads the cast of an unknown movie in reverse order (star of the movie comes last) from Leonard Maltin's Movie Guide and his guests have to guess the title after deciding how many names they need to do so. You can listen to and download the entire podcast on douglovesmovies.com, iTunes or here on Epo. For those who care, today marks the official 5th anniversary/birthday of Epo.
