So if Fresh Meat taught me anything about New Zealand’s culture it’s that all the guys are perpetually horny, most of the females are lesbians, most of the police officers are witless morons, and most of the cannibals are religious cult-worshipping natives. Would any New Zealanders like to refute that? Please, I’m all ears, I know nothing about Maori culture and island rituals, except if I want to distract the Tazmianian Devil (whom I can only assume is the island mascot) all I have to do is toss a kiwi bird in the other direction and he’ll chase it. Don’t you watch cartoons? Tazmanian Devils love snacking on kiwi birds!
Aw hell, this isn’t some educational country promoting film though, so I’m just going to assume Danny Mulheron’s B-Movie horror throwback is all fictional, right down to the cannibalistic family who have...

In the film, a gang breaks out of a prison. They find refuge in a nearby mansion until the inhabitants reveal their cannibalistic streak. What will be on Hemi's (Morrison) dinner plate? The first trailer for Fresh Meat is below. In the clip, a young man is optimistic for New Zealand and this country's future. Unfortunately, he is oblivious to his very dire circumstances. Shock has discovered a lil' trailer for the horror-comedy, Fresh Meat, hailing from New Zealand. The film comes to us from director Danny Mulheron whose career in the genre reaches back to Peter Jackson's Meet the Feebles in which he played...Heidi the Hippo!
Since then, Mulheron's been balancing various acting and directing gigs (mostly television in the latter).
Mulheron's latest goes like this: When the Tan gang’s prison breakout goes violently wrong, they need a hideout in a hurry. Picking the McMansion of a middle-class Maori family probably seemed like a safe bet. But how were the Tans to know that this particular family have reintroduced some very old-fashioned cuisine to their dining table? Will the Tans escape the trap, or is there gangster in the casserole tonight?
Kate Elliott, Hanna Tevita, Nicola Kawana, Jack Shadbolt and Leand Macadaan also star. Head inside for a look at...
