Paramount+ revealed the official trailer for Halo‘s second season, which has Pablo Schreiber returning as Master Chief John-117 as he leads a team of elite Spartans against the alien threat known as the Covenant.
The new season has showrunner David Wiener (Brave New World) taking over for last season’s Steven Kane, who oversaw physical production on the first season in Budapest, and Kyle Killen, who supervised writing and production in the United States.
The new footage shows plenty of space action, though it appears a bit dim and murky (at least, in this trailer):
Wiener, Schreiber and newcast member Joseph Morgan had unveiled the first new footage for season two at Ccxp in São Paulo in December.

“Halo” Season 2 is almost here, and it looks like Master Chief has his work cut out for him.
Paramount+ announced Saturday that the second season of the video game-based series will premiere on Feb. 8, sharing a dramatic teaser trailer. Instrumental music scores a rousing speech as our heroes embark on a doomed mission.
“You deserve the truth,” the trailer’s rousing speech begins. “The enemy is at our gates. Their numbers are overwhelming. Any Marine who makes this stand with us will not survive the day.”
But, there’s a reason for that sacrifice: “For every moment we hold the enemy at bay, more innocent people can escape. When they do, they will go forth and tell the story that you write today. You will be remembered.”
The word “remembered” echoes over the rest of the trailer as we see more action, including human-alien physical combat.

A group of screenwriters including Eli Roth, Graham Yost and Amy Chozick have issued an open letter decrying the Writers Guild of America’s silence on last week’s Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel.
In the letter, posted to the blog site Medium, the screenwriters mention the statements already issued by other Hollywood guilds, including SAG-AFTRA and the directors’ guild.
“When it comes to taking a stand, the Writers Guild of America has always led by example,” the statement said. “When employers sought to exploit our work, the Guild bravely spoke up. When the BLM movement took flight, the Guild rightfully spoke up. When the #MeToo reckoning came and Hollywood needed to change, again the Guild spoke up. But when terrorists invaded Israel to murder, rape, and kidnap Jews… the Guild stayed silent. It remains the only major Hollywood union to do so.”

“As a fan of the series, and having played the games for the last 20 years, it’s an incredibly daunting task to be put into the position of visual effects supervisor,” admits Dominic Remane, who was tasked with creating the expansive galaxy inhabited by the warring factions at the center of the “Halo” story with his army of visual artisans and technicians. For our recent discussion, he adds, “Working on the creative design of the characters and creatures and trying to stay faithful to what the audience is expecting to see, but still have a slight twist and create our own canon to a degree, gives us...

Spoilers for "Halo" episode 6 follow.
For all the unexpected twists and turns throughout these past few episodes, it hasn't been terribly difficult to discern the overarching storyline of the inaugural season of "Halo." Even as early as the premiere, showrunners Kyle Killen and Steven Kane firmly established the show's building blocks and suggested the kind of series this would ultimately become. Though we never actually saw Pablo Schreiber's face until the Master Chief unmasked himself to Kwan (Yerin Ha) at a crucial moment, all indications pointed to a clear emphasis on the man underneath the armor, the traumatic circumstances of the Spartan origins, and...

Now that's more like it.
I'll admit I've found myself surprisingly charmed by the unique direction that season 1 showrunners Steven Kane and Kyle Killen have taken this "Halo" series so far, flaws and all. Rather than walking down the obvious path of crafting a straightforward adaptation of "Combat Evolved," they instead opted for a downright strange detour into a sci-fi universe that almost feels as if it carries the "Halo" brand name as a matter of happenstance. Illegal clones, programmable (and profoundly damaged) super-soldiers, an unstoppable extraterrestrial Covenant that has been inexplicably shoved off to the margins, a human rebellion...

Halo once was supposed to put Xbox on the map as a place for original scripted programming. Instead, the adaptation of the popular video game is helping to establish another digital platform, Paramount+. According to the Paramount streamer, Halo has set a new record as the service’s most-watched series premiere globally in its first 24 hours of release, topping the previous mark established by Yellowstone prequel 1883 in December.
As usual, no numbers were provided; for reference, the record-breaking 1883 series debut on Paramount+ also drew 4.9 million viewers in a promotional linear airing behind Yellowstone on Paramount Network. We will get a sense of the scope of Halo’s viewership when Nielsen’s streaming rankings for this week come out. A Paramount+ original has yet to crack the Nielsen Top 10.

After over half a decade of development, the “Halo” TV series has arrived. A television adaptation of the wildly successful video game franchise has been in the works for a long while, changing networks and directors through the course of bringing this story to the screen.
The show is based on the 20-year “Halo” video game franchise, but charts a new path for its television story that is separate from – but still connected to – the video games.
The “Halo” TV series was originally set up at Showtime in 2018 with showrunner Kyle Killen and director Rupert Wyatt. The network, showrunner and director would all eventually change, so you’d be forgiven for not knowing exactly where to watch “Halo” now. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
When Does “Halo” Premiere?
The “Halo” TV series premieres on March 24, with one new episode released weekly.

Beware of spoilers for the first episode of "Halo" below!
What lengths are writers and directors prepared to go in the pursuit of avoiding the fate that has befallen practically every other live-action video game adaptation in decades past? With a property as beloved as "Halo" is, that pressure doubles (if not quadruples) for the creative team in charge of developing the Paramount+ series that, after a long and terribly winding path, has finally arrived on the small screen. Steven Kane and Kyle Killen, the showrunners for season 1, were given the tall task of navigating those treacherous waters and guiding this project to the...

Languishing for over two decades in pre-production hell, “Halo”, the live-action series based on the Bungie video game franchise, drops on Paramount + on March 24th. Created by Steven Kane and Kyle Killen and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, the show is based on a massive franchise with legions of fans that includes multiple novels, several comic book series, an anime, and two live-action web series. In other words, “Halo” has no shortage of stories to pull from.
Creating a new origin story for Spartan-ii soldier John-117/Master Chief played by Pablo Schreiber (“American Gods”) is only the beginning of what’s being built in the Paramount+ adaptation. It isn’t easy to judge a series of this scale from just the first two episodes released to the press. But based on the initial installments, “Halo” feels like a solid introduction to a new science-fiction franchise — as long as you’re...

Adapting a video game or any intellectual property, especially one with a large built-in fanbase, for film or television carries with it a degree of expectation; but there's also the nuts-and-bolts requirements of storytelling, which works differently across different mediums. Sometimes adaptations that stray a bit from the source material but remain true to the spirit of it can be better than ones that rigidly adhere to it. For the new "Halo" streaming TV series on Paramount+, showrunners Steven Kane and Kyle Killen have made a conscious decision, it seems, to avoid consulting the bestselling Xbox game as they went...

Legendary director Steven Spielberg helped get the upcoming "Halo" series made in his own essential, yet unstated way, according to Variety.
Being a passionate gamer and massive "Halo" fan himself, Spielberg helped supply show executive producer Kiki Wolfkill and showrunner Steven Kane with copious notes about the expansive, complex "Halo" mythology, which in turn allowed the series to come together. Given the arduous process that went into the creation of the Paramount+ series (Kane wrote upwards of 265 drafts of the first 9 episodes!), Spielberg's aid allowed for the creators to shape a dense, standalone world independent of the narrative continuation of the games.

The road to getting an adaptation of the popular video game “Halo” to audiences has been an exceedingly long and twisted one. The game has been captivating audiences since 2001, and since that time Hollywood has been determined to bring the ambitious, intense, large-scale world it created to life.
In 2005, plans for a feature film were announced, with “Devs” creator Alex Garland working on a script. Neill Blomkamp, director of “Elysium” and “District 9,” was slated to helm the film. But after several delayed starts, then-20th Century Fox Studios and Universal required the production to reduce its budget (one of several big reasons why the series has taken so long.)
But as television series have gained both more prestige and larger budgets, the time seems ripe to finally bring “Halo” to audiences as we’re set to see on Paramount+. The 10-episode first season will take audiences into the 26th...

It isn’t the fault of “Halo,” the TV series adaptation finally premiering March 24 on Paramount Plus after years stuck in development hell, that it comes on the heels of a plethora of TV and streaming options that look and feel similar enough to lessen its ability to shock and awe. From “The Mandalorian” (Disney Plus), to “Matrix: Resurrections” (HBO Max), to “Foundation” (Apple TV Plus), there are already plenty of big budget science fiction epics onscreen taking on the same themes as “Halo”. Even Paramount’s own “Star Trek” shows might scratch a close enough itch. So in its quest to stand out in the vast galaxy of other options, the question for “Halo” then becomes whether this particular adaptation can not only attract enough existing fans of its source material to make a difference, but reel in viewers who may not have much knowledge of the sprawling “Halo...

Screening two episodes of any series that’s more than, let’s say, four episodes leaves a lot to the imagination. Introductions can lay the groundwork, but the winding path reaches far into distance. Still, with a project this long-in-the-works (development started nearly a decade ago) of a franchise this popular (the Xbox video games have made more than $6 billion) that’s already the face of a major media conglomerate’s year-old streaming platform, “Halo” isn’t built to sneak up on anyone. It’s been engineered to arrive with a bang, from its SXSW festival debut Monday night to Master Chief’s heaven-sent star turn in the premiere.
Given all that hype, it should come as little surprise the first two hours (of the nine-hour first season) elicit immediate comparisons to two of TV’s most successful recent programs: “Halo” enlists the stark violence of “Game of Thrones,” while...

Master Chief is one of the most recognizable characters in gaming history, but 20 years since his Xbox debut, he remains a stranger in a strange land when it comes to live-action. Fortunately, after several false starts, Master Chief is finally crash landing on a whole new medium as the star of the Halo series on Paramount+.
While Halo has experimented with live-action ads and web series in the past, it has never attempted a production of this scale. But that’s not for lack of trying. In 2005, Columbia Pictures and 20th Century Fox partnered with Microsoft to adapt Halo into a movie, with Neill Blomkamp directing a script written by Alex Garland and Peter Jackson producing. The film project didn’t work out. Microsoft next turned to director Steven Spielberg to executive produce a TV series with his Amblin Television production arm in 2013. When “Halo” premieres on Paramount+ later this month, it will mark the end of a long road to the small screen for the legendary video game property. Since the release of the first “Halo” game in 2001, many of Hollywood’s top genre filmmakers have tried to adapt the game into a movie or show, with everyone from Peter Jackson to Alex Garland being attached at one point or another.
The project has languished in development, but it took Steven Spielberg’s involvement to finally get the show off the ground. Spielberg became attached to produce a television adaptation of “Halo” in 2013 through his Amblin Entertainment production company, but the show stalled and was reworked several times before landing at Paramount+. “Halo” has been renewed for a second season by Paramount Plus, in advance of the series premiere of the long-anticipated video game adaptation on March 24. David Wiener — who created “Brave New World” and was a co-executive producer on “Fear the Walking Dead” and “Homecoming” — is also officially joining the series as executive producer and showrunner, which was first reported on Feb 1.
The early renewal is a strong vote of confidence for the adaptation of Microsoft’s $6 billion-dollar blockbuster gaming franchise for the Xbox, which has been in the works as a series since 2014. (That followed Microsoft’s earlier attempt to adapt “Halo” as a feature film property starting in 2005.) Kyle Killen first signed on to run the series in June 2018 when it was still set to debut on Showtime, and Steven Kane joined in March 2019 to continue developing the series, ultimately taking over as lead showrunner when Killen exited. Paramount+ has already greenlit a second season of “Halo” over a month before the series premiere. David Wiener will join the series as showrunner and executive producer.

Master Chief will stay locked and loaded for Paramount+, which has renewed Halo for a second season. The renewal was unveiled during a ViacomCBS presentation on Tuesday.
The video game series, based on the widely popular and long-running Xbox game franchise of the same name, nabbed an early season 2 renewal more than a month before its debut on March 24. Halo stars Pablo Schreiber as the iconic Unsc Spartan known as Master Chief.
Paramount+ also confirmed that Fear the Walking Dead’s David Wiener will serve as showrunner and executive producer for the sophomore season. Wiener will be the third showrunner to helm the series, following Steve Kane who will exit after season 1 and Kyle Kinnen who departed the series in 2018.

David Wiener (“Brave New World”) is in talks to take over showrunner duties on Paramount Plus’ “Halo,” executive producer Justin Falvey announced on Tuesday during the TCA panel for the hotly anticipated video game adaptation.

Halo, after more than eight winding years in development, will finally land at Paramount+ this spring.
The sci-fi drama, which stars Pablo Schreiber as video game icon Master Chief, has gone through a number of hoops to get to the ViacomCBS streaming platform – from switching over from Showtime to Paramount+ to the exit of co-showrunner Kyle Kinnen in 2018. However, executive producers including Kiki Wolfkill and Justin Falvey say that finally launching the series was a product of commitment and patience.
