Nickelodeon Studios is about to begin production on My Weird School, a new feature-length movie based on Dan Gutman’s bestselling book series.

The movie will follow middle school student Aj as he finds himself joining forces with faculty and friends to save the world from an alien invasion.

Production begins in Vancouver, Canada this month. The movie will stream day-and-date on Paramount+ and air on Nickelodeon channels in all markets where available. Premiere details will be announced at a later date.

With more than 100 titles and 35 million copies sold, Gutman’s My Weird School series follows the day-to-day life of wisecracking A.J., his loyal pals Ryan and Michael, and his archenemy, smarty-pants Andrea, as they face a set of wacky teachers at Ella Mentry School—the weirdest school ever.

In the movie, Aj, played by Hero Hunter, hates middle school but he is willing to give it a chance to prove him wrong.

Fans of the Loud House can expect exciting costumes, action-packed scenes, and amazing musical numbers in A Really Haunted Loud House. The talented cast of the live-action film brings their characters to life with improvisation, jokes, and dedication, creating a truly immersive experience. Adapting the animated series to live-action presented challenges in finding the right cast and organizing complex shots, but the result is a genre-defying film that combines family, horror, and comedy with the Loud family's unique twist.

The Really Loud House is getting an all-new Halloween special just in time for the spooky holiday season, and Cbr can exclusively debut the official trailer.

Called A Really Haunted Loud House, the special is a feature-length film starring the live-action cast of The Really Loud House. Featuring the Louds celebrating their annual Halloween Spooktacular with original music and more spooky fun, the special will be available to stream on Paramount+ starting on Thursday, Sept. 28. Deadline understands that Nickelodeon’s The Really Loud House was forced to shut down production as a result of picketing.

The series is the second project in New Mexico to shut down this week as a result of the writers strike; Max’s Duster was shut down Tuesday. The Really Loud House films in Albuquerque.

It was in production for its second season. It’s not clear when production will resume.

Based on the Emmy-winning animated series, the series ranked as the top live-action show on cable among kids 6-11 during its first season, which debuted in November.

More Loud House is on the way at Nickelodeon. The network has ordered a new 10-episode live-action series based on the Emmy-winning animated show The Loud House, for premiere later this year on Paramount+. It was announced Thursday during Nickelodeon’s virtual upfront presentation.

The network also renewed the original toon series for a seventh season.

The series greenlight follows the success of the live-action movie, A Loud House Christmas, which drew 3.1 million total viewers in Live+same day when it premiered in November to become TV’s top kids’ entertainment telecast of 2021. Cast members from the movie will return to reprise their roles in the series.

Nickelodeon’s A Loud House Christmas has drawn solid ratings for the ViacomCBS-owned television network. The Nov. 26 premiere of the original live-action holiday movie, based on Emmy-winning animated series The Loud House, drew a 1.9/383,000 among Kids 2-11, a 2.1/252,000 with Kids 6-11 and drew 881,000 total viewers in Live+Same Day. The 2.1 Kids 6-11 rating made the film the top entertainment telecast on TV year to date in the key kids demo.

Across seven telecasts over the holiday weekend, A Loud House Christmas amassed 3.1 million total viewers (L+Sd)

The movie saw triple-digit year-over-year gains with Kids 2-11 (+171%), Kids 6-11 (+133%) and total viewers (+166%). Among Adults 18-49, A Loud House Christmas is up 300% year-over-year and +100% above prior four-week benchmarks.

Peacock has opted not to renew Punky Brewster for a second season. The followup to the 1984 sitcom was headlined by the original series’ star Soleil Moon Frye reprising her role as the titular character who became a pop culture staple of the 1980s.

Punky Brewster, which premiered in February, was among the first original series on NBCU’s streamer Peacock alongside fellow NBC sitcom revival Saved By the Bell and two other comedy series, Rutherfold Falls and Girls5Eva, all of which have been renewed for a second season.

Freddie Prinze Jr. is joining another pilot, this time at NBCUniversal’s forthcoming Peacock streaming service.

He will play a recurring role in the “Punky Brewster” sequel pilot which was ordered when the Peacock unfurled its slate of feathers back in September. Prinze Jr. was a part of the pilot for the CW’s “Nancy Drew” earlier this year, but was eventually recast for Scott Wolf when the show was ordered to series.

NBCUniversal today revealed Peacock as the name and April as the launch month for its streaming service. Among the series that will be available when the service goes live are four new dramas — including Sam Esmail’s take on Battlestar Galactica — and reboots of the decades-old NBC comedies Saved by the Bell and Punky Brewster.

There also will be a Season 4 of the NBC sitcom A.P. Bio, a limited series about L.A. billboard queen Angelyne and a second telefilm based on USA Network dramedy Psych, starring James Roday and Dulé Hill. On the unscripted side, Peacock will launch with Who Wrote That, The Amber Ruffin Show and an untitled Real Housewives franchise spinoff.

It’s been nearly a decade and a half since All That ended on Nickelodeon, and now the series revival has a premiere date. The Viacom-owned cable net said today that the reimagined show with an all-new cast will launch at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 15.

The first episode also will feature appearances from three folks who were part of the original main cast: Kel Mitchell — who was a regular in Seasons 1-5 — Lori Beth Denberg (Seasons 1-4) and Josh Server (Seasons 1-6). They will reprise classic characters and sketches during the first season, including Mitchell in “Good Burger” and Denberg in “VItal Information” and “Loud Librarian.”

Written and executive produced by Zimmet and directed by Jonathan Judge, Geniuses harkens back to one of Fox’s signature comedy series, Malcolm in the Middle. The comedy is about Cay (Lawson) and Mike (Biggs), a blue-collar couple in South Jersey trying to get by while raising four kids, three of whom just happen to be certified geniuses.

Tisha Campbell-Martin has been cast in the Fox multi-camera comedy pilot “Geniuses,” Variety has learned.

Campbell-Martin will play Rita, a mother of three who works as a casino pit boss and is Cay’s (Maggie Lawson) closest friend at work.

“Geniuses” is described as family comedy about a blue-collar couple, Cay and Mike (Jason Biggs), in South Jersey trying to get by and raise four kids, three of whom just happen to be certified geniuses. “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” producer Lon Zimmet will write and executive produce the pilot, with Jonathan Judge in place to direct.

A 1970s television classic is getting a revival over at Amazon Studios. The premium entertainment service announced that Sid and Marty Kroft are teaming up with the company to produce a TV reboot of “Sigmund and the Sea Monsters.”

“We also look forward to reviving the classic ‘Sigmund and the Sea Monsters’ that has a strong message of friendship,” said Tara Sorensen, Head of Kids Programming at Amazon Studios.

The original “Sigmund and the Sea Monsters” was a live-action children’s show that ran for two seasons from 1973 to 1975. The new version follows the same premise of two brothers, Johnny and Scotty, who befriend Sigmund, a friendly young sea-monster who escapes from his old life and his comically dysfunctional brothers Slurp and Blurp, and hide him in their Clubhouse. The new version adds their cousin Robyn and Captain Barnabas, an ambitious sea-monster hunter portrayed by David Arquette.

"Birdman" helmer Alejandro González Iñárritu won the Directors Guild of America's (DGA) award for best direction of a motion picture Saturday night, effectively firming up his film's march into the Oscars later this month. The Michael Keaton comedy also took top honors from both the Producers Guild and the Screen Actors Guild. With the DGA prize it joins films like "Argo," "The King's Speech," "Slumdog Millionaire," "No Country for Old Men," "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King," "Chicago," "American Beauty" and "Apollo 13" as the only films to pull off the hat trick. Only one of those, "Apollo 13," failed to win the Best Picture Oscar. So it's more or less settled, right? I confess, coming into the industry awards phase of the season, I didn't expect "Birdman" to dominate like this. And maybe that was ultimately its secret weapon. Everyone had their eyes on "Boyhood.

Tonight, the final major guild, The Directors Guild of America, announced their awards for 2014, giving their top prize to Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for his brilliant direction of Birdman. This means that the film has won the “Triple Crown” (PGA, DGA, and SAG), making it an unstoppable force as we head into the Oscars.

No film since Apollo 13 has won all three of these awards and lost the Best Picture Oscar, but that film had failed to get a Best Director nod, showing that it wasn’t quite as strong with the Academy. Birdman, on the other hand, has nominations in every major category except Film Editing (which is probably due to the Editors’ Branch thinking that there wasn’t much editing there), so its path to the Oscars should be pretty smooth.

The Directors Guild of America announced its television, commercial and documentary nominations on Wednesday, with Jodie Foster receiving a pair of nods for directing episodes of the drama series “House of Cards” and the comedy series “Orange Is the New Black.”

The Oscar-winning actress is the only director to be nominated in both the drama and comedy categories. In drama, she will be competing with Dan Attias and Lesli Linka Glatter for two different episodes of “Homeland,” Cary Joji Fukunaga for “True Detective” and Alex Graves for “Game of Thrones.”

Woot woot! My pick to win Best Director at the Oscars took home the Feature Film trophy at the recently concluded Directors Guild of America awards. And it's truly deserving! Cuaron defied gravity, yes pun intended, to create "Gravity," a movie grounded in sci-fi realism that many directors before him (including James Cameron) were saying that it would be hard to do. But Cuaron did it, and did it extremely well! So hats off to "Gravity" and Cuaron's direction!
