Ricky Gervais celebrated his National Television Awards win at home by cuddling with his cat.

The 61-year-old comedian won the prize for Best Comedy at the awards show on Thursday (13 October) for his Netflix series After Life.

After the win, he tweeted: “Out partying, celebrating my big Nta win. Definitely not home, watching telly, cuddling the cat.”

Gervais shared the tweet alongside a photo of him and his pet.

He also thanked viewers who voted for the series, describing them as the “best fans in the world”.

Alongside a snap of him with a sniffer dog named Jack and his award outside the ceremony, Gervais wrote: “Thank you Nta and to everyone who voted. Best fans in the world. Oh, and thanks to Jack the sniffer dog for the selfie.”

With Netflix continuing to churn out more and more original content, it’s no surprise to see that the streaming giant amassed a whopping 117 Emmy nominations this year, up slightly from 112 last year. (See the network-by-network breakdown.) That huge number is led by limited series “When They See Us” (16 noms), comedy “Russian Doll” (13), nature doc “Our Planet” (10) and drama “Ozark” (9). However, seven of your favorite Netflix shows were snubbed by the TV academy this year, including former Emmy contenders and several new offerings. See the list below:

“After Life” — Ricky Gervais‘ latest Netflix series tells the story of Tony Johnson (Gervais), who becomes depressed and suicidal following the death of his wife. The dark comedy had an outside chance at getting in for Best Comedy Actor for Gervais, a two-time Emmy champ for producing “The Office” (2006) and starring in “Extras” (2007).

We're winding down the year-in-review game here at HitFix as 2014 draws to a close. The Academy has announced the new class of invited members for 2014 and, as is typical, many of which are among last year's nominees, which includes Barkhad Abdi, Michael Fassbender, Sally Hawkins, Mads Mikkelsen, Lupita Nyong'o and June Squibb in the Actors branch not to mention curious additions such as Josh Hutcherson, Rob Riggle and Jason Statham, but, okay. The Directors branch adds Jay and Mark Duplass along with Jean-Marc Vallee, Denis Villeneuve and Thomas Vinterberg. I didn't do an immediate tally of male to female additions or other demographics, but at first glance it seems to be a wide spread batch of new additions on all fronts. The Academy is also clearly attempting to aggressively bump up the demographics as this is the second year in a row where they have added a large number of new members, well over the average of 133 new members from 2004 to 2012. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 271 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.

Those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy’s membership in 2014.

“This year’s class of invitees represents some of the most talented, creative and passionate filmmakers working in our industry today,” said Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs. “Their contributions to film have entertained audiences around the world, and we are proud to welcome them to the Academy.”

Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong’o of 12 Years a Slave were two of the 271 artists and industry leaders invited to become members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which determines nominations and winners at the annual Oscars. The entire list of Academy membership—which numbers about 6,000—isn’t public information so the annual invitation list is often the best indication of the artists involved in the prestigious awards process. It’s worth noting that invitations need to be accepted in order for artists to become members; some artists, like two-time Best Actor winner Sean Penn, have declined membership over the years.

The 86th annual Academy Awards were really fun to watch. Ellen Degeneres did a fantastic job hosting, and I enjoyed the show she put on. It was also insanely predictable, at least, for me it was. Overall, I'm happy with all of the films that won. My favorite win of the the night was Spike Jonze taking home the Oscar for Best Original screenplay for Her. That was such an amazing movie, and I really wanted it to win that award, but I wasn't sure it would happen. My favorite speech of the night came from Best Actor winner Matthew McConaughey. I was never really a big fan of his, but over the last couple of years he has sure blown up into an amazing actor who has starred in some really incredible films. Then that speech he gave last night won me over, and now I'm on team McConaughey.

It was another incredible night at the 86th Academy Awards earlier this evening (March 2), as Ellen DeGeneres hosted a wonderful show filled with fabulous moments.

Big wins went to Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong'o in the Supporting Actors categories, while Cate Blanchett and Matthew McConaughey took home the golden statues for their work as Leading Actors.

Meanwhile, the cast and crew of "12 Years a Slave" was recognized with a Best Picture Oscar and Alfonso Cuaron took home the award for Best Director.

After a lengthy awards season that lasted three long months, the race for the Oscars came to a conclusion tonight at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

This year’s 86th Academy Awards saw a split between Best Picture and Director. 12 Years A Slave won three, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress for Lupita Nyong’o.

Backstage, producer/actor Brad Pitt said, “ I love this movie. I ‑‑ just as a film, as a lover of film, the filmmaking, the ‑‑ this heroic story of a man in this inhumane situation trying to get back to his family. I love this film. I love the filmmaking. It’s counterintuitive to the way we’re making films today. It’s a real achievement by Mr. McQueen here. I love this movie. I think it’s important. I think it’s important because it deals with our history that we haven...

And in the end, it was a predictable Oscar night! The frontrunners were true frontrunners with "12 Years a Slave" taking home the Best Picture trophy while "Gravity" won all technical awards. In the acting categories, Cate Blanchett won Best Actress, Matthew McConaughey was awarded the Best Actor trophy, while Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong'o received the Supporting Actor and Actress awards, respectively.

I think Ellen did a great job hosting the award, and the best musical performer for me was Pink singing "Over the Rainbow" in tribute to "The Wizard of Oz."

Waking up bright and early, Chris Hemsworth headed over to the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, CA to announce the 2014 Academy Award nominations on January 16.

In addition, the President of the Academy, Cheryl Boone Isaacs, took to the stage to kick off the day in honor the "heroes" in the film industry and read off the list with the "Thor" hunk.

Starting off the nominees list were the talented men in the Supporting Actor category including Barkad Abdi, Bradley Cooper, Michael Fassbender, Jonah Hill and Jared Leto.

As for the ladies in the Supporting Actress category, Sally Hawkins, Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong'o, Julia Roberts and June Squibb each earned recognition.

When it came to the Best Picture nominees, nine films including "American Hustle," "Captain Phillips," "Dallas Buyers Club," "Gravity," "Her," "Nebraska," "Philomena," "12 Years a Slave" and "The Wolf of Wall Street" gained a nod.

For many, Christmas morning came today in the form of the annual Oscar nominations announcement.

Actor Chris Hemsworth and Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs announced the nominations for the 86th Academy Awards today (January 16) at a 5:38 a.m. Pt live news conference attended by more than 400 international media representatives. Wamg was once again invited to the big event.

American Hustle and Gravity were the films of the day with 10 nominations, followed by a great showing for Steve McQueen’s 12 Years A Slave with 9 nods.

Captain Phillips, Nebraska and Dallas Buyers Club saw 6 each, while Spike Jonze’s Her and Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf Of Wall Street garnered 5 a piece.

Of note, all the 9 Best Picture nominees were released in the last part of the 2013.

Starting off the nominees list were the talented men in the Supporting Actor category including Barkad Abdi, Bradley Cooper, Michael Fassbender, Jonah Hill and Jared Leto.

As for the ladies in the Supporting Actress category, Sally Hawkins, Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong'o, Julia Roberts and June Squibb each earned recognition.

When it came to the Best Picture nominees, nine films including "American Hustle," "Captain Phillips," "Dallas Buyers Club," "Gravity," "Her," "Nebraska," "Philomena," "12 Years a Slave" and "The Wolf of Wall Street" gained a nod.

American Hustle and Gravity are the two most nominated films for this year's Academy Awards, each film receiving 10 nominations, while 12 Years a Slave received nine; all three films are up for Best Picture. We woke up early with Hollywood this morning for the nominations for the granddaddy of the awards season -- the Oscars! Mister Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, along with the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences President Cheryl Boone Isaacs announced the nominations, and there were not a whole lot of surprises.

But I'm very happy that the Academy honored "Dallas Buyers Club" with a nod for Best Picture along with Golden Globe winners, Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto, getting Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor nominations respectively.

David O. Russell's "American Hustle" and Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity" dominated the nominations with 10 nods each including Best Picture. The films will compete with "12 Years a Slave," "Captain Phillips," "Her," "Nebraska," "Philomena," "Dallas Buyers Club," and "The Wolf of Wall Street."

Now that we are knee-deep in awards season it is time to avoid to political back-slapping and enjoy the film year in retrospect. There’s little chance that the 86th Academy Awards nominations will throw up any grand surprises however the debate it will stir will all point to a positive outcome: that people who love film will champion them and argue about their inclusion (or not).

With the 2014 BAFTA nominations recently announced it’ll be interesting to see how far apart the two Academies are this year, but there are sure to be favourites in common. Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave is certain to gather up nominations, likewise Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity will grab onto directing and technical awards for sure, American Hustle is certain to have a nomination of two as well. What we’re looking forward to are the smaller films, unable to throw stocked coffers at For Your Consideration campaigns,...

The 86th Annual Academy Award nominations were revealed this morning, Jan. 16, and though many of the names and films called out were expected (American Hustle, Her, 12 Years a Slave), there were a few surprises (Nebraska) and snubs (The Butler, Inside Llewyn Davis).

American Hustle and Gravity dominated with 10 Oscar noms each, while 12 Years a Slave wasn't too far behind with nine nominations. Meanwhile, Nebraska nabbed six Oscar nods, as well as Dallas Buyers Club and Captain Phillips.

Nominations for the 86th annual Academy Awards will be announced today by actor Chris Hemsworth and Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2013 will be presented on Sunday, March 2, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center®, and televised live on the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation, produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, will also be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.

On Sunday the Ee British Academy Film Awards were held at London’s Royal Opera House and hosted by the always delightful Stephen Fry. The show was televised here in the States on BBC America. In a continuation of what Awards watchers have witnessed over the past weeks, Argo was named Best Film, Ben Affleck won the Director BAFTA and the film also took the Editing award.

Les Misérables did win four BAFTAs for Production Design, Sound, Make Up & Hair and Supporting Actress for Anne Hathaway.

Amour won the award for Film Not in the English Language and Emmanuelle Riva won Leading Actress. Leading Actor was awarded to Daniel Day-Lewis for Lincoln. Christoph Waltz won Supporting Actor for his performance in Django Unchained and the film’s writer/director Quentin Tarantino won the Original Screenplay BAFTA.

Honoring the best in the biz, the 2013 Orange British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) took place in London, England earlier this evening (February 10).

During the event held inside the historic Royal Opera House, many stars walked home with big trophies including the cast and producers of "Argo" who took home the award for Best Film.

Meanwhile, Emmanuelle Riva was names Best Actress for her role in "Amour", while Daniel Dawy-Lewis took home Best Actor for his work in "Lincoln."

Other winners included "Skyfall" taking home Best British Film and Anne Hathaway taking home the award for Best Supporting Actress, while Juno Temple took home the Rising Star Award and Ben Affleck took home the prize for Best Director.

The ceremony is over here in London, bringing together some of the finest and most talented people in the film industry under the same roof for one night. The BAFTAs are this country’s highest honour in film, and they have handed out their awards for the 66th time to those whom they deem the most deserving in the past year in film.

And since Ben Affleck is one of my favourite filmmakers of all time, I have been in a brilliant mood tonight, because he’s won (and very much earned) Best Director for Argo, and taken home the Best Film prize alongside his co-producers George Clooney and Grant Heslov. If you haven’t yet seen Argo, I can’t recommend enough how much you should see it as soon as possible.

'Skyfall' has taken the first Award of the evening at the 2013 Baftas, currently taking place at London's Royal Opera House.

This caps a thrilling year for the James Bond franchise, celebrating its 50th year, with a record-breaking box office taking for 'Skyfall', which has become the most successful British film ever.

But the evening's big winner remains very much undecided, with awards being shared out between 'Argo', 'Life of Pi' and 'Les Miserables' - and nothing yet for the nominations leader 'Lincoln'.

Sam Mendes' 007 film beat Tom Hooper's 'Les Miserables' to take the first gong of the night. And 'Skyfall' has just taken another award, for Best Original Music.

The winners of this year's Ee British Academy Film Awards were unveiled tonight (February 10) at London's Royal Opera House, in a ceremony hosted by Stephen Fry. Argo emerged as the big winner on the night taking home three awards, while Les Miserables and Skyfall also took home BAFTAs.

The Guardian film team predict who will win what at this year's ceremony

On Friday Xan Brooks assessed the field of this year's Bafta contenders and found it "a hazy huddle of frontrunners, all seemingly bobbing back and forth in front of the finish line".

Lincoln is first among equals with 10 nominations. Les Misérables, Life of Pi, Skyfall and Argo all crowd in behind.

The awards momentum has swung from Life of Pi to Lincoln to Argo over the past few weeks. In a competition this close there could be upsets. There should be tears. There must be winners.

So here's what we think will take home scary award masks this year. We've listed all the nominees. Our predicted winners are in bold.

The 66th annual British Academy Film Awards are here! And there was much rejoicing.

We’re here at the Royal Opera House in London to bring you all the up to the minute news on who won, who looked really annoyed when they lost, and who knows what else will be in store for us tonight?

Lord Stephen of Fry is leading proceedings once again and I’ll be updating you fine people with the winners as they are announced.

The full list of awards and nominees can be found here, and as the awards are announced I’ll update the liveblog below with the nominees and the winners.

The ceremony is due to start at around 7pm and if you’re hungry for all the red carpeting then head over here to see the arrivals from around 5pm.

Australian effects house Fuel VFX has added a British Academy Film Awards nomination for its work on Ridley Scott.s Prometheus following its recent nod from the Visual Effects Society.

Fuel co-founder Paul Butterworth was nominated alongside non-Fuel nominees Richard Stammers, Charley Henley, and Trevor Wood. Fuel, one of the three lead visual effects vendors on the latest installment in the Aliens franchise, delivered more than 200 visual effects shots. The company, which is now part of Animal Logic after facing a near-catastrophic cash-crunch last year, created the .Orrery. (an interactive 3-dimensional map of the known universe), the holographic 'Engineer' characters, and the 'Holotable' on the Prometheus' bridge.

Its work also received two nominations in the peer-reviewed Visual Effects Society Awards. Fuel.s BAFTA and Ves nominations mean it is likely to also receive an Academy Award nomination, which will be announced January 10 (Us time). The 2013 British Academy Film Award announced this morning its nominations which were dominated by acclaimed U.S. movies.

BAFTA honors historical biopic Lincoln with 10 nominations, though Steven Spielberg wasn’t nominated for best director.

Boy-meets-tiger saga Life of Pi and epic musical Les Misérables received nine nominations each, while James Bond adventure Skyfall had eight nods and Iran hostage thriller Argo seven. Tom Hooper also was dismissed on the direction front.

Other mulitple nominations include a period film based on the famous Tolstoy novel, Anna Karenina with six and the riveting, powerhouse thriller Zero Dark Thirty and western directed by Quentin Tarantino, Django Unchained have 5 nominations each.

The British awards have helped underdog films including Slumdog Millionaire, The King’s Speech and The Artist gain momentum for Oscars gold, so many Brits hoping to see nods for Skyfall.
