Josh Homme addressed the possibility of a Them Crooked Vultures comeback during a fan Ama on reddit, saying he would love to get the band back together — but ultimately it’s not his call.
In a response to a fan who asked whether Vultures would ever record a new album, Homme explained, “It’s sort of not my job to put Vultures back together, that’s Dave [Grohl]’s job. My job is to dance around, write words, and try to write some music.”
That said, Homme continued, “I really want to — Dave knows this. I really want Vultures to get back together and do one more round.”
Them Crooked Vultures, which featured Homme, Grohl, Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones, and Alain Johannes, released their first and only album to date in November 2009. They toured extensively behind the release, but then went their separate ways in 2010. In 2022, the group briefly...

Five years after Dave Grohl performed his prog-rock epic “Play” live for the first (and only) time, a video of the complete and extended performance of the song has been revealed.
In December 2018, Grohl recruited an all-star lineup including Alain Johannes, Greg Kurstin, Chris Chaney, Barrett Jones, and more to give “Play” a one-night-only airing at the annual Christmas Jam benefit concert in Asheville thrown by Gov’t Mule’s Warren Haynes.

Dave Grohl has unleashed the only live performance of his epic 23-minute, instrumental “Play,” which extends the song to a whopping 36 minutes.
Recorded during Warren Haynes’ 30th Annual Christmas Jam in 2018, the live version expands the breadth of the instrumental as Grohl is accompanied by Greg Kurstin on keyboards, Chris Chaney on bass, Drew Hester on percussion, and guitarists Jason Falkner, Alain Johannes, and Barrett Jones. However, it’s Asheville-based busker Abby the Spoon Lady who really steals the show. Watch the performance below.
“Play” was originally composed and performed entirely with Grohl on every instrument. The process of its recording was captured in a two-part documentary of the same name, released in 2018.
The track will appear on The Benefit Concert Volume 20, a collection of performances recorded on December 7th and 8th, 2018 in Asheville, North Carolina. Other featured artists include Eric Church, Joe Bonamassa, Gov’t Mule, Mike Gordon, Marco Benevento,...

Track by Track is our recurring feature series in which artists guide readers through each song on their latest release. Today, New York City rocker Des Rocs give us insight into his sophomore album, Dream Machine.
Des Rocs, aka Danny Rocco, sports the silhouette of a young Elvis Presley, and his brand of self-described “bedroom arena rock” tugs at the rock ‘n’ roll of the past with the intent of making the present a bit more tolerable.
Fused with the wit of an artist forging his path in the competitive New York City circuit, his music transcends pastiche and is frankly refreshing. There’s tangible joy: bombastic chords, anthemic Queen-esque choruses, glam-metal swagger. In a gloomy world where many musicians are making gloomy music, Des Rocs sounds like the damn antidote.
“It’s 2:10 in the morning / I’m on the Bqe … Come on take a joy ride / In my dream machine.

Korn guitarist James “Munky” Shaffer has joined forces with composer/filmmaker Chris Hunt to form a new electronic outfit named Venera. The duo has announced its self-titled debut album, along with releasing the single “Hologram” featuring Rizz from the band Vowws.
Venera’s debut LP will arrive on October 13th via Ipecac Recordings. “Hologram” actually follows lead single “Swarm,” which was quietly and mysteriously released last month.
As for the new tune, Shaffer and Hunt state, “’Hologram’ emerged quickly from our first session together. A nearly unchanging drum machine pattern nested in warbling guitars. We don’t interact much with holograms but they seem to offer an image of an alluring emptiness and light, which resonates well with the universe we are driven to explore.”
In addition to Vowws’ Rizz, the album features guest drumming from Deantoni Parks, and vocal contributions from Alain Johannes and Health’s Jacob Duzsik.

New York rocker Des Rocs has shared his thrilling new single “Never Ending Moment” to celebrate his signing to Sumerian Records. Stream it below.
Co-produced by Des Rocs with Alain Johannes, “Never Ending Moment” is an arena-ready jam looking ahead to heartbreak while still in the midst of a relationship. “Forever together/ Through fire and rain, I’ll wait for you,” he sings. “I’ll never surrender/ When you ask me to.”
In a statement, Des Rocs explained the meaning of “Never Ending Moment,” saying it’s about “the nostalgia for losing something before it’s gone.” He continued, “I’ve always found a kinda darkness to the best moments in life. It’s born from that unnerving reality that all love will one day end. We have this instinct to eternalize the sweetest moments we experience — to me it’s one of the most humanizing experiences we share. I...

Dave Grohl, Travis Barker, and Miley Cyrus were some of the artists who performed at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert in Los Angeles on Tuesday 27 September.
The show, which was held at the Kia Forum, kickstarted with Grohl’s 16-year-old daughter Violet performing a rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” along with guitarist Alain Johannes.
After that, Foo Fighters took over the stage, announcing: “Welcome to the Los Angeles Taylor Hawkins tribute concert.
“This is the hometown s***, so you gotta make it loud for Taylor.”
Grohl said that the idea of the concert is to “spend some time in [Hawkins’s] musical mind, which could be a pretty terrifying place” and to “celebrate this person that has touched our lives.”
The show continued with performances by Joan Jett, Chevy Metal, Kesha, Coattail Riders, Mark King, Rufus Taylor, Joe Walsh and the James Gang, Cyrus, Mötley Crüe, and Def Leppard among others.

Nikki Lane speaks as fast as she moves. The gregarious singer-songwriter is dashing around Nashville’s ornate Hotel Indigo, shaking hands and arranging stock. She’s here to put the finishing touches to her latest project – an intimate outpost of her High Class Hillbilly vintage boutique in the hotel’s lobby – and everything needs to be just perfect. “I’m an artist but I’m also an entrepreneur, big time,” Lane states, in her warm Southern twang. Finally, in her star-printed denim and with a grin as wide as the nearby Cumberland River, she sits down for a breather.
A country music mainstay for the last decade, Lane has just released her first album in five years, Denim & Diamonds. With Josh Homme of Queens of The Stone Age on production duties, her classic melodies are backed by strutting guitars and an indelible swagger.

The Mark Lanegan Band’s new single, “Letter Never Sent,” is a dusky, synth-laden New Wave number on which Lanegan sings about “painful reflection,” “sad introspection” and skulls in close proximity to tire irons. The melody and incessant drum machine makes it sound deceptively upbeat, and it all leads up to a mysterious chorus, “You could send me a letter, a letter never sent.” The song will appear on the group’s upcoming album, Somebody’s Knocking, due out October 18th.

Over the last sixteen years (and with an ever-changing line-up), Homme has taken to creating some of the most iconic hard rock albums of modern times, and in doing so has inspired a wealth of other contemporary guitar groups to scale bigger and bolder heights.
Although the Queens have never fully revolutionised their sound, every one of their six studio albums is a distinctive entity, each possessing its own sonic identity, stylistic breadth, and channelling of disparate influences to varying degrees. Cloud to Ground incorporates sounds generated by Kyma, a computer-based sound-design system that mutates organic instrument recordings. It was the same system that sound designer Ben Burtt used to create lonely robot Wall-e's voice in the 2008 CGI Pixar film and informs the album's electronic explorations of noise and rhythm. As we hurtle into the last quarter of 2013, an exciting year for music, I’d like to have a look back at one of the best albums of the year – alongside the explosive return of Bowie and the brave new stepping stone from Arctic Monkeys – ‘…Like Clockwork’. Considering it was only released three months ago, it already feels cemented in contemporary music as Queens of the Stone Age’s masterpiece; a diverse and yet consistent work of art drawing on many new styles and featuring some of Josh Homme’s richest and most eloquent writing, all tied together with a smattering of crushing riffs and haunting melodies. Let us take a look at each individual track, all ten of which bring an independent integral slice of what makes this album such an accomplishment.

It’s been six years since the California stoner rock band released their last LP, Era Vulgaris. Suffice to say, it wasn’t their best effort and instability in the band at the time (and since) has proven to be a large obstacle for Queens of the Stone Age.
It even required the band asking Josh Homme to come back and record after knee surgery that left him bedridden for a few months. After apparently experiencing death momentarily he must have had some sort of refreshing epiphany that made him write some brilliant new music. And that’s the background for their latest album, …Like Clockwork.
Extremely catchy and original guitar riffs show that the band are back on top form and Homme’s lyrics are brilliantly put across by his trembling baritone vocals. Every song clearly has input from each member of the band, including the subtle keyboard from Dean Fertita.

Queens of the Stone Age, ". Like Clockwork" (Matador)
Opening to the sound of breaking glass and riddled with lascivious intent throughout, Queens of the Stone Age's new album ". Like Clockwork" is the soundtrack to the B movie of your dreams.
In the six years since the release of the band's critically acclaimed "Era Vulgaris," Queens founder Josh Homme has moonlighted with the Eagles of Death Metal and super group Them Crooked Vultures. Now, the California native sounds energized back in his day job.
The credit list for ". Like Clockwork" reads like a who's who of modern rock, with appearances from the band's frequent collaborators Dave Grohl and Mark Lanegan, as well as Homme's former bandmate Nick Oliveri, Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor, Artic Monkeys' frontman Alex Turner and, perhaps surprisingly, Sir Elton John – who lends backing vocals and piano to "Fairweather Friends."

Gearing up for their first album since 2010, Jimmy Eat World have released a fresh single entitled "I Will Steal You Back."
The song starts out softly but bursts into a rollocking chorus that's in keeping with the band's familiar sound. "I Will Steal You Back" will first be released as a 7-inch single in conjunction with Record Store Day on April 20. The vinyl release will also include a cover of Radiohead's "Stop Whispering," from that band's 1993 debut album "Pablo Honey."
"I Will Steal You Back" is the lead single off Jimmy Eat World's upcoming album, "Damage," which is slated for a June 11 release.
"I hate saying more raw, but it's more raw and warm," lead singer Jim Adkins told Rolling Stone about the new album. "I would describe it as an attempt at making an adult breakup record."

Austin, Texas — Walking onstage sporting a red, slicked-back mohawk mullet, with bottle of vodka in hand, the riff factory known as Josh Homme was ready to get down to business with his old pals on Wednesday night. While he was a little busy last year working with a few guys you may have heard of — Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl and Led Zeppelin's John Paul Jones — in the side project Them Crooked Vultures, Homme is now waxing nostalgic by playing the Queens' eponymous 1998 debut in its entirety on a new tour. Rocker Josh Homme is bringing two of his groups together for a benefit to raise cash and help band mate Brian O'Connor fund his ongoing cancer treatment. Queens of the Stone Age and the Eagles of Death Metal will hit the stage together at Los Angeles' Club Nokia next month, on August 12 to be exact, for the show.
O'Connor, the bassist for Eagles of Death Metal, was recently diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. All proceeds from the benefit will assist with the bass player's medical aid and vital living expenses.
The benefit is the second that Homme has organized for his band mate. His supergroup Them Crooked Vultures played in a previous charity show in London, England on July 5.
