Eddie Vedder has called Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker a “fucking pussy” after the NFL player stated his belief that women are better off staying at home rather than pursuing a career.
The Pearl Jam singer made a lengthy speech during his band’s concert in Las Vegas on Saturday (May 18th) in response to Butker’s now-infamous commencement address at Benedictine College last weekend. Beginning his comments, Vedder praised Pearl Jam’s opening act Deep Sea Diver.

“The singer, Jessica, and the keyboard player, Patti, they must not have believed that ‘diabolical lie’ that women should take pride in taking a backseat to their man,” Vedder said, quoting a phrase from Butker’s speech.

Eddie Vedder Joins Harrison Butker Critics Following NFL Kicker’s Divisive College Graduation Speech
Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder and an order of nuns at Benedictine College can be added to the growing list of those denouncing the divisive commencement speech given by Kansas Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker at Benedictine College last week.
At a sold-out Las Vegas Pearl Jam concert on Saturday at the MGM Grand, Vedder joined Butker naysayers — including the National Football League — in denouncing the speech where Butker condemned abortion, euthanasia, IVF, surrogacy and the LGBTQ community. He also denounced the “diabolical lies told to women,” suggesting that enforcing traditional gender roles is the better route.
After the concert’s opener, “Deep Sea Diver,” warmed up the Vegas crowd, Vedder thanked the band, led by singer Jessica Dobson and featuring Patti King on keyboards.
“That’s some good men and good women making up a great band,” Vedder said of the Seattle rock band. The singer, Jessica, and the keyboard player,...

John Oliver addressed the past week in commencement gaffes on Sunday’s edition of Last Week Tonight.
Noting that ceremonies in general have been “a little chaotic this year, both because of the continuing protest over Gaza, but also for weirder reasons,” he kicked off the segment by showing footage from the Thomas Jefferson University College of Nursing graduation ceremony, where the announcer struggled to pronounce common names like Sarah, Meghan, Elizabeth, Molly — and Thomas.
The commencement presenter at Thomas Jefferson University accidentally read off the phonetic spellings of each graduate’s name and oh my god. pic.twitter.com/DVLGibmnRZ
— Michael Collier (@MikeACollier) May 10, 2024
“That is magnificent!” Oliver quipped. “Mispronouncing ‘Thomas’ at Thomas Jefferson University is just spectacular.”
He noted that the school later said the problem was due to the fact that the names had been spelled phonetically.
A message to the graduates of the Jefferson College of Nursing.

Like any Christmas film worth the time it took to wrap, Tyler Taormina’s wry but melancholy “Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point” has a bone-deep understanding of why all the best holidays are so painfully bittersweet: They bring the evanescence of our lives into focus, crystallizing the passage of time, while slowing it down just enough for us to appreciate how much of it has already melted into memory. Unlike the rest of its way too crowded genre, Taormina’s contribution has precious little interest in doing anything else.
And god bless this movie for that, because its tinselly charm depends on conjuring a feeling so pure and hyper-specific that even the slightest flurry of a plot might threaten to dilute the effect. Even more so than Taormina’s previous features, “Christmas in Miller’s Point” is just happy to be an immaculately conceived vibe.
Instead of scenes, there are fleeting glimpses.

The NFL has responded to Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker’s controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College, in which he condemned abortion, euthanasia, IVF, surrogacy and the LGBTQ community. He also denounced the “diabolical lies told to women,” suggesting that enforcing traditional gender roles is the better route.
“Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity,” Jonathan Beane, the NFL’s senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer said in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter. “His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger.”
During his 20-minute speech, Butker said to graduating women, “How many of you are sitting here now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career? Some of you may...

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker delivered a highly controversial commencement speech at the Benedictine College graduation ceremony on May 11.
Butker, 28, decried various “diabolical lies” about topics such as abortion, in vitro fertilization (IVF), surrogacy, and President Joe Biden, which has sparked a wave of backlash on social media.
He began his speech by saying, “It is safe to say that over the years, I have gained quite the reputation for speaking my mind.”
Butker said, “While Covid might have played a large role throughout your formative years, it is not unique.” He went on to criticize “bad policies and poor leadership” that he said “have negatively impacted major life issues.”
“Things like abortion, IVF, surrogacy, euthanasia, as well as a growing support for degenerative cultural values in media all stem from the pervasiveness of disorder,” he said.
Butker addressed the female students, “For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment.

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker kicked the hornet’s nest last weekend when he encouraged the women of Benedictine College’s 2024 graduate class to embrace their roles as wives and homemakers rather than putting their degrees to use. While the speech drew widespread criticism for his characterization of women and LGBTQ+ people, Butker also promoted an insidious piece of antisemitic misinformation pertaining to legislation in Congress.

The 20-year-old Netflix starlet has faced off against the Demogorgon, Godzilla and can now add a fire-breathing dragon to the list. Brown leads Netflix’s latest fantasy flick “Damsel” as Elodie, a girl plucked out of her small, impoverished village to enter into a marriage of convenience with Prince Henry of Aurea, played by Nick Robinson. Building the World The deal seems too good to be true — Elodie’s village would receive gold from the kingdom, and all she needed to do was get to know the prince and follow through with the marriage. Warning signs are subtly introduced on the journey to Aurea, where Elodie’s family travels through dark fog illuminated by hyper-realistic dragon statues with fire in their mouths. Actress Nicole Kidman ate alone in her hotel room the night she won an Oscar in 2002 as she recalled “struggling” with her personal life despite the professional high. The 56-year-old actress won an Academy Award for her role in drama film ‘The Hours’ in 2002 but had not long split from Tom Cruise – with whom she has Isabelle, 30, as well as 28-year-old Connor – and recalled “struggling” with her personal life despite the professional high as she opted to just go back to her hotel after her victory at the ceremony.
In an excerpt from Dave Karger’s upcoming book ’50 Oscar Nights’ , she said: “I was struggling with things in my personal life, yet my professional life was going so well. That’s what happens, right? I’m not a big party girl, so I was going to skip the Vanity Fair party, and everyone was like, ‘You’ve got to go.

The fact that we received a prequel to the 2009 thriller Orphan in 2022 was mind-boggling – especially since the surprisingly entertaining Orphan: First Kill still starred Isabelle Fuhrman as Leena Klammer / Esther, an adult serial killer from Estonia who is able to pass herself off as a 9 year old kid. Looking 9 was easy for Fuhrman when she made the first movie, because she was a child at the time… but now she’s an adult, and the filmmakers had to try to figure out how to make her look like a kid again for the prequel. It worked well enough, and the movie went over well enough with viewers (you can read our review Here), that Orphan: First Kill director William Brent Bell is now developing Orphan 3!
While doing the press rounds for his new movie Lord of Misrule, Bell told The Hollywood Reporter, “I was surprised [by the warm reception of Orphan: First Kill], because it...

It's a story years in the making; truthfully, we're surprised we're actually getting it.
As previously reported, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live premieres Sunday, February 25, 2024, bringing back Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira as fan favorites Rick and Michonne -- or as we like to call them -- Richonne.
Their relationship was such a big part of the original series that it's shocking we've been waiting this long for their reunion.
The Long Road to the Richonne Reunion on The Walking Dead
Andrew Lincoln's exit from The Walking Dead was accompanied by the announcement that he would headline a trilogy of movies.
That was in 2018, but details slowed to a halt after that.
With no new announcements and The Walking Dead's end in sight, it seemed there was a chance that Rick and Michonne's storylines would remain unresolved.
Thankfully, AMC officially picked up Twd: The Ones Who Live...

It’s not every day that you see a spin-off that surpasses the legacy of the main series. Especially when the series has run for over a decade and garnered the kind of cult following that’s persevered through its weakest days. If you take a look at the mess The Walking Dead franchise has made with the majority of its spin-offs, Daryl Dixon will come as a truly bewildering surprise. This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon episode 5.
Through 11 seasons of The Walking Dead and its countless spinoffs, the zombie franchise’s version of the undead have remained stubbornly static. In keeping with comic creator Robert Kirkman’s original vision, Walking Dead zombies have followed the traditional George A. Romero rules for reanimated corpses. That is to say that the show’s titular walkers were slow, unintelligent, and driven by only a vague notion of hunger.
Of course, that’s all started to change of late (as tends to happen when you have more than a decade of storytelling to fill). The final season of The Walking Dead introduced zombies that could climb ladders and turn doorknobs. The lore-heavy post-credit scene of The Walking Dead: World Beyond suggested that French scientists were aware of (or even complicit in the creation of) “variant cohorts” of the undead. The...

Daryl Dixon's journey to France has been infused with horror and hope, but it's hard to have much of the latter after The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 1 Episode 5.
Sometimes, even the best-laid plans have too many variables, and that's precisely what happened when Daryl tried desperately to get Laurent to the Nest.
Despite Quinn and Isabelle giving them the best shot at getting to their destination, it wasn't meant to be.
Kids doing stupid things has been synonymous with this franchise since The Walking Dead Season 1, but it's hard to be mad at Laurent.
He lost his mother and may never see his aunt and father again, so why shouldn't he hold on to the person who's been trying to save his life?
How can you be mad at a kid who made a rash decision because he feared losing more people?
It's difficult. I don't blame Daryl for...

The film Don’t Look Away, directed by Michael Bafaro, is disastrous! It stitches together bits and pieces of the plots from other films like It Follows, Don’t Breathe, and others, which is quite evident. The slasher/gore film revolves around a deadly mannequin who murders people for its own satisfaction. There is, however, no plot built up based on the series of events, and a killer mannequin randomly embarks on a murderous expedition. Frankie, the protagonist, gets to see the mannequin first, and then her friends, who lay their eyes on it, get killed one after another. Starring Kelly Bastard, Colm Hill, Karina Frislev, Michael Bafaro, and others, there is zero character development in the film, which, to some extent, affects their acting skills. Does any of the friends find a way out of the murder spree of the mannequin? What was its motive? Let us try to find some answers to these questions.

Throughout Twd: Daryl Dixon Season 1, Norman Reedus' titular alter ego has been on a mission to return home.
That's been complicated by the fact that Isabelle has convinced him to continue the mission to take Laurent to the Nest.
On Twd: Daryl Dixon Season 1 Episode 5, Daryl and Laurent are well on their way to getting to the supposed safe haven.
But Laurent is unsure of how far you have to go for survival on the road.
TV Fanatic scored an exclusive first look at the episode, which finds Laurent bringing a fish back to the campsite.
He's shocked to the core when Daryl tells him they will need to kill the fish to eat it, something that didn't happen while the youngster stayed at the monastery.
Daryl opens up about the harsh realities of life on the road and how they'll struggle to find the food they would like to find.

If there were ever an opportunity to go to Paris during a zombie apocalypse, I'd probably take it. They seem to have it together far more than other places we've visited in this franchise.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 1 Episode 4 delved deeper into the conflict between those who believe Laurent has a higher purpose and tyrants like Genet who want to wipe all hope away.
The funny thing is Genet was probably bursting at the seams with hope once, thinking there was an end in sight for the apocalypse.
If nothing else, she's been an entertaining counterpoint to people like Isabelle and Sylvie, who want to scream "Laurent is our savior" from the rooftops.
Genet has been the thorn in everyone's side since The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Season 1 Episode 1 when she realized who squandered years of her research.
We still don't know how Daryl managed to pull off that trick,...

AMC's flagship series "The Walking Dead" may have said its final farewell last fall, but the zombie drama lives on with a multitude of spin-offs. As was noted by The Hollywood Reporter, AMC has granted season renewals for both "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" and "The Walking Dead: Dead City."

With the continued expansion of The Walking Dead universe, there have been questions about whether you need to watch the other shows in the franchise before the spinoffs.
The Walking Dead: Dead City has taken viewers to New York City with Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), and there is a lot of connective tissue to the original series.
For Norman Reedus' The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, the intent is to make the series accessible for everyone.
"This is probably the closest to a standalone show you will ever get," Greg Nicotero explained to Entertainment Weekly.
"The goal isn't just to see Daryl in exotic and new locations, but to explore a wholly different world."
"This is definitely not more of the same. Our show introduces new characters, new themes, and is an exciting extension of the genre that will delight people who love this kind of storytelling and crave more,...

Hello, English-speaking readers. How’s your French vocabulary nowadays? Well, based on our first official look at Walking Dead spinoff The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, you may want to start brushing up on the romance language soon.
The two-minute clip, which AMC premiered during episode 2 of The Walking Dead: Dead City, features Walking Dead hero Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) traversing a rundown European landscape and even encountering some graffiti that might be cause for hope (if he paid enough attention in French 101 to read it). Give the whole clip a look below.
The first notable bit here is that Daryl addresses himself into a tape recorder and says he comes from a place called The Commonwealth in America. This suggests that the massive community from flagship series is carrying on just fine and is perhaps even notably less corruptible under new leadership. Things get decidedly less optimistic from there as...

It doesn’t matter of your idea of a Cruel Summer invokes Taylor Swift or Bananarama, there’s still a hot season’s worth of mystery to unpack in round 2 of Freeform‘s anthology hit. Like the 2021 edition, which bounced between three consecutive summers for its tale of a Texas teen who was abducted and her classmate who could have saved her, this new story also employs multiple timelines. Except here, we’re dropping into a trio of periods within a single calendar year at the end of the last millennium as small-town teen Megan (Sadie Stanley of The Goldbergs) and Isabella Larue, the transfer student spending senior year living with Megan’s blue-collar family, go from strangers to besties to possible murder suspects. Griffin Gluck (Locke & Key) costars as Luke, Megan’s childhood pal who instantly catches Isabelle’s eye. But this is not your usual “girls fighting over a guy” cliché-fest.

The June 18th premiere of AMC’s Walking Dead spin-off The Walking Dead: Dead City, which follows the characters of Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) is nearly upon us… and in the build-up to that premiere, AMC has gone ahead and shared a short promo for the next spin-off in line, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – a show that, as the title gives away, focuses on the Daryl Dixon character played by Norman Reedus. The short ad can be seen at the bottom of this article.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has the following synopsis: Daryl (Reedus) washes ashore in France and struggles to piece together how he got there and why. The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home. As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan.
