The Pitt wrapped its spectacular first season on Max yesterday, and while we won't spoil the ending for those that have yet to watch it, we will say that Season 2 looks to be shaping up to be even better than the freshman outing. Taking place over the course of one 15-hour shift at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital, The Pitt tackles real-world issues within the confines of its fictional narrative. It appears as if Season 2 will follow that same trend, especially when it comes to the current state of the healthcare system in the United States.

Considered by some to be a spiritual successor to ER, mainly due to the presence of actor Noah Wyle, who portrays Doctor Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, The Pitt is the newest medical drama to give audiences a confrontational look at the struggles that healthcare workers face each day. Ever since it began streaming on Max, The Pitt has received praise from critics, audiences, and even medical professionals, who note its realism and accuracy. In a recent article published by Vulture, one aspect of the show was critiqued by real-life MD Dr. Lukas Ramcharran. Ramcharran, like many who have seen the show, praised it for its realism and took the time to clear up one of the inconsistencies that exist between narrative storytelling and real life.
Emphasizing Realism Over Drama Max
A pitfall that many medical dramas have fallen prey to is when realism becomes the secondary focus, and the dramatic tension between characters takes priority.

Thursday was a big day for Noah Wyle. Not only did he deliver an Emmy-worthy turn on The Pitt, but he did something he's never done before: sign a doctor's board certification.
Wyle and several of his castmates on The Pitt — Alexandra Metz, Taylor Dearden, Michael Hyatt, Amielynn Abellera, and Brandon Mendez Homer — visited Children's Hospital Los Angeles to support the 10th annual Make March Matter campaign. During the visit, two doctors told the actor that they were inspired by his performance as Dr. John Carter on ER to go into medicine. One of them, Dr. Brad Goldberg, had the five-time Emmy nominee autograph his board certification from the American Board of Pediatrics.
"This means more than coming from the actual board," Goldberg said.
"Wow, this is a first for me," a visibly moved Wyle said as he prepared to sign.

Warning: The following story contains spoilers about Thursday's episode of The Pitt, "7:00 P.M."
The Pitt takes its name from its setting, the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. "Welcome to the Pitt," Noah Wyle's Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch greets his new medical students and interns in the pilot. The Max medical drama covers a single 15-hour ER shift over 15 episodes in more or less real time, and it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that the Pitt is also the metaphorical pit. Welcome to the pit. That's where Robby is by the end of Thursday's episode, "7:00 P.M.," the 13th hour, which features Wyle's best performance yet.
Robby's day has been terrible from the start. Against better judgment, he's working on the fourth anniversary of the death of his mentor, Dr. Adamson, who died from Covid, and has been beset with flashbacks and mini panic attacks.

After the success of its gripping first season, the Max original drama The Pitt has been renewed for a second season. The renewal has been confirmed as Season 1 of the medical drama is halfway through its 15-episode run, with the season finale coming next April 10. Today, the show is dominating Max's charts of most popular content.
The Pitt stars Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, the chief attendant of the emergency room at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. Told in real-time, Season 1 of the show focuses on a day in the life of those working around Robby, including nurses and interns, who deal with the frantic pace of an extremely busy ER. The following contains major spoiilers from The Pitt Season 1, Episode 7, "1:00 P.M.," now streaming on Max. It also contains references to sexual abuse, abortion and pregnancy loss.
The Pitt Season 1, Episode 7, "1:00 P.M." is essentially the midpoint of the 15-episode season, and so it's appropriate that the Max drama comes roaring out of the gates. With arguments and controversies around nearly every corner, this is the episode that will make some people fans of the show, and will turn other fans off entirely. Everyone's mileage will vary depending on their personal opinions on each topic -- and how much they're willing to take.
"1:00 P.M." doesn't introduce many new patients, because the existing ones have enough problems. The teenager seeking an abortion is still locked in the ER's bathroom, while there's a shocking reveal about the patient who just fell off a ladder. Meanwhile, one main character gets the worst possible news.

Uh-oh, things aren’t sounding so good for the hospital in The Pitt Season 1 Episode 6. TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek from the February 6 episode, covering the 12:00 p.m. hour of Robby’s (Noah Wyle) shift as the chief attending in Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital’s emergency room. The clip picks up in the middle of Robby’s conversation with hospital administrator Gloria (Michael Hyatt) — about potentially losing the Ed. “I can’t believe you’re seriously considering this,” he tells her. But she has to think about the bottom line, which is that their current numbers aren’t good. “If you want to keep this Ed, improve metrics,” she says. “There’s a lot of Ofi.” He’s confused. “Opportunities for improvement,” she explains. “I need you to care about patient satisfaction scores.” But he argues that there are things that he needs from her, as head nurse Dana (Katherine Lanasa) watches,...

One of the many things contributing to the chaos and stress of The Pitt was a nationwide nursing shortage, but did Max's new medical drama make it up, or is there really a need for more nurses in the United States? In the premiere of The Pitt, Gloria (Michael Hyatt) told Robby (Noah Wyle) that he needed to get his patient satisfaction numbers up, and Robby said that hiring more nurses would help him do that. Gloria, however, explained that there's an ongoing nationwide nursing shortage, and that Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital can't hire enough nurses.

The rest of the year is jam-packed with highly anticipated series, including “The Last of Us” Season 2, “It: Welcome to Derry,” “Game of Thrones” spinoff series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” “Peacemaker” Season 2 and “Hacks” Season 4, among many others.

2024 felt like a rebuilding year for television, as contraction across Hollywood and delays from the historic Hollywood strikes wreaked havoc on programming schedules across the board. But we still got some standout series, including the return of “House of the Dragon,” Netflix’s surprise breakout “Baby Reindeer” and more.
But 2025 brings with it a more stable slate for all the biggest power players across streaming, broadcast and cable, one that aims to appeal to wider audiences and grapple with the new economic realities of the entertainment industry. TV lovers can expect big productions though, including long-anticipated returns for shows like Apple TV+’s “Severance,” HBO’s “The White Lotus” and Netflix’s “Stranger Things” and “Wednesday.” Established IP will also get its fair share of spinoffs, including the “Game of Thrones” side quest “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” NBC’s “Suits LA” and Marvel’s anticipated “Daredevil: Born Again” quasi-revival on Disney+.

Max is getting procedural next month. On Thursday, the streaming service set a premiere date and released a new trailer for the “ER”-esque medical drama “The Pitt.”
The series follows a single 15-hour shift hour-by-hour in the emergency room of a Pittsburgh hospital on a particularly crazy day. There are 52 patients in the waiting room by 7 a.m., and it’s a class of med students’ first day on the job. The doctor in charge is Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (“ER” veteran Noah Wyle), who is great at his job but not dealing with his emotions. It’s the anniversary of his mentor’s death, and he’s stuffed his feelings down for the past five years.
“150,000 people die every day in the world,” he tells a med student who just lost a patient. “Today you got one of them. And we’re gonna get more of them before the shift is over.

What constitutes a horror movie is often a matter of debate, but a good place to begin is by measuring how much a film can instill fear in viewers. Traditionally, though, without some extreme violence, a few jumpscares, or a supernatural presence or setting, a scary movie doesn't just become a horror movie. Unless a viewer feels an extreme physical reaction to a visual, auditory, or conceptual stimulus, a movie doesn't necessarily become a proper horror film.
Often, horror movies are equally creepy and fun, and sometimes, horror comedy movies can be purely hilarious, bordering on not being horror movies at all. Because of its flexible definition, horror is easy to blend with other genres, and similarly, other genres can easily create viewing experiences that closely resemble the experience of watching a horror film. Drama films, especially ones that rely on anxieties and interpersonal dynamics for their dramatic turns,...

Denzel Washington is by far one of the greatest actors of our generation, but even the best have some duds. The Little Things, released in theaters and on streaming in 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic, is a star-studded thriller that failed to enrapture audiences in its serial killer mystery. Featuring some head-scratching performances and a far too self-serious story, despite being so audacious, not even Washington could save The Little Things from becoming a forgotten part of the actor's recent filmography. Well, audiences can find that out for themselves before it leaves Netflix by the end of November.
The Little Things is set to leave Netflix by December 1, before it arrives back at its original streaming home, Max. The neo-noir period thriller certainly has its fans, so it is good to know that the Washington-led film will still have a place in the vast streaming world. The Little Things also...

HBO and Max head Casey Bloys has responded to the estate of Michael Crichton, and its lawsuit arguing that the upcoming Max series “The Pitt” is an unauthorized reboot of “ER,” telling reporters he doesn’t expect it to have an impact on the show’s early 2025 rollout.
“I’m sure I’m not supposed to talk about active litigation, but I will say the idea that a show can’t be set in an ER seems kind of unrealistic on its face, that no other show can be set in a hospital emergency room,” he told reporters on Tuesday at an HBO and Max press conference. “I mean, it’s kind of a staple on television. Denzel Washington's 2021 thriller The Little Things unexpectedly topped Netflix's US movie chart, impressing audiences despite initial criticism. The film's nostalgic 1990s setting, refusal to update the script, and authentic portrayal of detective work have contributed to its success on Netflix. Washington's resurgence in action thrillers has propelled The Little Things and The Equalizer 3 to new audiences on the platform.
Denzel Washington continues to dominate Netflix as his panned 2021 thriller The Little Things hit the top of the Netflix chart in the U.S. and made it to a second place position globally. Denzel Washington continues to dominate Netflix as his panned 2021 thriller The Little Things hit the top of the Netflix chart in the U.S. and made it to a second place position globally. The Little Things offers a twist ending that focuses on redemption and guilt, rather than the killer's identity. The film's ambiguous conclusion may leave viewers with more questions than answers, sparking debate. Deacon's act of sending false evidence to Baxter serves as an act of empathy and redemption for his own past actions.
Written and directed by John Lee Hancock, The Little Things is an underrated crime thriller that requires repeated viewings to understand its twist ending. The story takes place in 1990 Los Angeles and follows the detective work of veteran Joe Deacon (Denzel Washington) and his young partner, Jim Baxter (played by Rami Malek). As the two detectives track down a serial killer they believe to be a local suspect named Albert Sparma (Jared Leto), what begins as a routine police procedural is revealed to be a character-driven redemption story for the real culprits.

The 2023 Emmy nominations are here. The slate of nominees include "Succession" (which aired its final season this spring), "Ted Lasso" (which also just wrapped up its last season), "Yellowjackets," and many more. And while there are some long-deserved Emmy nominations we're very excited about, there are also a lot of nominations that didn't happen, leaving viewers and fans surprised at these major misses. Ahead, these are the biggest snubs of the 2023 Emmy nominations.
Emmys Snub: The Cast of "House of the Dragon"
"House of the Dragon," the "Game of Thrones" prequel series that won fans' hearts last fall, was nominated for nine awards. None of them were for acting, despite a very strong ensemble. Most egregious in our eyes is the exclusion of Emma D'Arcy's leading performance as Rhaenyra Targaryen. D'Arcy's portrayal of the heir in an impossible position is full of nuance, pain, and tenderness. And if...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for the series finale of “Snowfall.”
When John Singleton set out to tell the story about the effects of the ’80s cocaine business on Los Angeles, he had a clear vision in mind. He wanted something that came full circle and ultimately led into his directorial debut “Boyz ‘N the Hood,” a film that was set in the ’90s and explored the harsh realities of Black families living in South Central L.A. The movie earned the then 24-year-old his first Oscar nomination, making him the youngest and first Black filmmaker to be nominated for best director.
Damson Idris was a major part of the story of “Snowfall.” Starring as Franklin Saint, Idris carried out Singleton’s tale and vision down to the show’s final scenes. As Franklin’s story came to an end on Wednesday night, fans finally said goodbye to what...

The University of Southern California’s (USC) School of Cinematic Arts (Sca) announced the creation of the John Singleton Lounge during a special screening of the series finale of FX’s Snowfall — Singleton’s final work — on the campus Thursday night. Set for location outside of the dean’s office suites, the seating area will be decorated with posters showcasing the work of the late filmmaker and USC alum who also co-founded the school’s African American Cinema Society while he was a student there.
“I want to thank John for being my son, and I want to thank John for listening to me and allowing me to guide his life,” said Singleton’s mother, Sheila Ward-Johnson, in opening remarks during the event, which was one of a series of screenings Sca has held throughout the 2022-2023 academic year as part of a yearlong celebration honoring the Academy Award-nominated director.

Spoiler Alert: The following story reveals major plot points from tonight’s series finale of FX’s Snowfall.
After 6 seasons, FX’s hit drama series Snowfall said its final goodbye tonight, and while most of what transpired was somewhat expected, seeing a promising life end in poverty and despair is absolutely heartbreaking.
Viewers have been on a journey with Franklin Saint (Damson Idris), seeing his highs and lows and cheering him on no matter what he’s gotten himself into. But money and power tend to change people, especially when said fortune comes from criminal activities. In the end, Franklin is left with no family and friends to speak of—except his day one Leon Simmons (Isaiah John)—a shadow of himself resembling his father Alton Williams (Kevin Carroll) at his lowest in Season 1, drunk and destitute.
“His final moments were incredibly challenging. There was a fatherhood connection there, which...

[The following story contains spoilers from the Snowfall series finale “The Struggle.”]
For six seasons, FX’s Snowfall explored how the crack cocaine epidemic contributed to the destruction of a community in South Central Los Angeles. The 1980s-set drama also touched on the intersections between the unfolding drug crisis and larger societal and geopolitical issues like the Iran-Contra affair and Cold War tensions between the CIA and Kgb.
But for its final episode, which aired Wednesday night, the series, co-created by the late John Singleton, ended in some ways as it began, with Damson Idris‘ Franklin Saint walking along a palm tree-lined street.
“For all of the show’s aspirations and its geopolitical reach, it started on the street with a kid who was full of potential in a neighborhood that was just a working-class neighborhood on a summer day,” showrunner Dave Andron tells The Hollywood Reporter of ending the series on Franklin. “And we always knew that the story,...

Everyone involved with Snowfall told us that the series wouldn’t end well. No one consumed by the show’s crescendoing tension could expect anything but tragedy.
Few, if any, outlaws ever got away scot-free. And, even with the boundless capabilities of historical fiction, neither could Damson Idris’s Franklin Saint. Many Snowfall fans anticipated the series concluding with him being whisked away by the CIA, or killed at the hands of his Aunt Louie (Angela Lewis) — if not one of the many people whose lives he’d ruined en...

"Snowfall"'s reign has come to an end, but the cast and crew are pleased with their series's epic six-season run. "Looking at the totality of it, I'm just so proud that it went the distance," cocreator Dave Andron tells Popsugar while reflecting on the FX show's legacy. "We managed to make something that meant a lot to a lot of people. We got to end the story, with the blessing of FX, the way we wanted to and on our terms. And that's an incredibly special and gratifying thing."
"We got to tell our story from beginning, middle, to end. That makes me extremely proud, grateful, and very excited."

Spoiler Alert: The following reveals major plot points from tonight’s episode of FX’s Snowfall.
After nearly 6 seasons, tonight’s episode of FX’s Snowfall really hammers in the reality that the series is almost over.
Things really started feeling real after Uncle Jerome (Amin Joseph) was killed, no doubt, but since the beginning, this story revolved around Franklin Saint (Damson Idris) and Teddy McDonald (Carter Hudson) who finally come face to face in episode 9 aptly titled “Sacrifice.” This was a complicated relationship that fluctuated between business partners, and friends, to mortal enemies caught up in a cat-versus-mouse game where no one is a winner.
As for the Saint family and the rest of the surviving characters who made it this far alive, there is no happy ending no matter how you slice it. Everyone was gobbled up by Los Angeles’ seedy underbelly at the height of the crack epidemic,...

Another one bites the dust in "Snowfall" season six, and for fans who have been following the show since the very beginning, it's been a long time coming for this character. Earlier this season, the '80 set crime drama - which chronicles the epic rise and fall of Franklin's (Damson Idris) drug organization during the crack epidemic in South Central Los Angeles - bid farewell to Jerome (Amin Joseph) after he was shot and killed for trying to save his wife Louie (Angela Lewis). Now, in "Snowfall"'s penultimate episode, infamous foe Teddy (Carter Hudson) has suffered his own tragic fate as his heinous actions have finally caught up to him.
As many "Snowfall" fans know, Teddy has been instrumental to Franklin's drug operation ever since the latter traded in his college textbooks for a kingpin crown in season one. The former CIA operative - who's been running an...

Angela Lewis opens the latest episode of FX’s “Snowfall” as a grieving widow. Her character, Louie, has lost her husband Jerome Saint (Amin Joseph). Now, the actor says that all bets are off as the series enters its final episodes.
In its final season, Louie seemingly has jumped out of fans’ favor, as her war with her nephew, Franklin Saint (Damson Idris), comes to a boil. The family feud first started in house. With Franklin’s $73 million stolen by former CIA Agent Teddy McDonald (Carter Hudson), he’s started to take drastic lengths — like stealing all of his aunt and uncle’s illegal inventory — to keep himself and his growing family afloat.

How FX’s ‘Snowfall’ Honored Late Co-Creator John Singleton in Its Final Season: ‘He Didn’t Leave Us’

The legacy of John Singleton reigned over the black carpet at the sixth and final season premiere of FX’s “Snowfall” on Wednesday night.
As the cast filed into the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures to view a screening of the first episode, Michael Hyatt (Cissy Saint) and Carter Hudson (Teddy McDonald) reflected on the legacy of Singleton, who co-created the series. Singleton died in April 2019 after suffering a stroke at the age of 51. The “Boyz n the Hood” writer-director made history as the first Black person to score an Oscar nomination for best director.
“John taught me to use my voice in ways that I had not given myself permission to use my voice in my career, in my life,” Hyatt tearfully shared with Variety. “Because of his presence in my life and the time that I had to spend with him, he empowered me to use that voice.

Longtime crime fiction novelist and “Snowfall” writer Walter Mosley says John Singleton gave writers everything creatively that they needed to know to continue “Snowfall” before his April 2019 death.
“Snowfall” is set to premiere its sixth and final season on Feb. 22 on FX. The series has become the network’s top-rated show, averaging 4.3 million total viewers across linear, VOD and streaming with its Season 5 debut.
Aside from its stellar cast, the show’s success can easily be attributed to Dave Andron, co-creater, executive producer and writer; Mosley, executive producer and writer; and the late Singleton, who co-created the series alongside Andron and Eric Amadio. Singleton died about three months before show’s Season 3 premiere, and the show has since maintained the essence and meticulousness of Singleton’s creative decisions and guidance.
