Image
Warning: This post contains major spoilers for Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody

Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody is based on the true story of the iconic singer’s life and career. Directed by Kasi Lemmons from a screenplay by Anthony McCarten, I Wanna Dance with Somebody pulls from Whitney Houston’s real life, though there are a number of elements that are not expanded upon.

Houston, who was dubbed “The Voice,” is one of the most successful female artists of all time, having broken records and sold more than 200 million records globally over the course of her career. To date, there have been five portrayals of Whitney Houston across documentaries and feature films. Biopics, while based in truth, can only include so much and sometimes exaggerate certain aspects of a musician’s life to make a point. The Whitney Houston biopic offers a glimpse into...

Whitney Houston Sues Back Stepmother For .6 Million
Whitney Houston is fighting back his stepmom with a lawsuit of her own. The singer is countersuing her dad's widow, Barbara Houston, for .6 million.

Whitney is responding to the lawsuit Barbara filed last year, wherein the stepmother claimed the singer kept the million insurance payout after her father died in 2003. Barbara alleged that 3,000 was supposed to be hers, but Whitney held on to the entire sum.

However, the "I Have Nothing" legend dismisses the paltry amount, saying Barbara owes her much more.

Barbara apparently owes Whitney .6 million for failing to make mortgage, tax and condo payments for the New Jersey home she's lived in since 1987. Whitney says she lent her late father the mortgage to buy the condo and hasn't been paid back yet.

Whitney Houston Steps Up Attack on Stepmom
To hear Whitney Houston tell it, she's got her very own evil stepmother. The songbird is countersuing Barbara Houston for $1.6 million, the star's rep, Nancy Seltzer, confirms to E! News. "[Whitney] Houston is using the legal remedies available to her," she says. Last December, the widow claimed the singer kept a $1 million insurance payout from her father's estate that was earmarked for the mortgage on his Fort Lee, N.J., condo, where the stepmom has lived for the past 20 years. She said the 45-year-old Grammy winner was supposed to fork over $723,000 for the mortgage, which is in Barbara's name, and give the change to Barbara directly. Instead, the stepmom accused her of holding onto the...

Whitney was supposed to use $723,000 of the money to pay off the remaining mortgage on her father's condominium. It was supposedly her dad's wish to do so. But now Whitney says...

Houston Sued By Stepmother
Whitney Houston
Whitney Houston's stepmother is suing the star over the wishes of the singer's late father.

According to court papers filed in federal court in Newark, New Jersey, Barbara Houston claims the 45-year-old singer improperly kept the proceeds from John Houston's $1 million (GBP666,000) insurance policy after he died in 2003.

The lawsuit states the singer was supposed to use $723,000 (GBP482,000) to pay off the mortgage, that she holds, on her father's Fort Lee, condominium.

Her stepmother, who still lives in the property, claims the singer was also supposed to return the remaining insurance money to her.

Lawyers for both parties declined to comment on the lawsuit.

Whitney Houston Sued by Stepmom
Maybe Whitney Houston's dad wasn't saving all his money for her. In a lawsuit filed in federal court, the Grammy-winning diva's stepmother claims that Houston kept a $1 million insurance payout from her late father's estate that was supposed to go toward the mortgage on his New Jersey condo. Barbara Houston states that her 45-year-old stepdaughter was supposed to fork over $723,000 for the mortgage, which is in Barbara's name, but instead kept the entire sum after John Houston's death in 2003. And then, after paying the mortgage, Houston was supposed to return the rest of the money to her stepmom, as well, the suit claims. Lawyers for both sides refused to comment on the...
