Composer, educated at the University of Wisconsin (Bachelor of Music),
Mills College (Master of Arts, with Egon Petri), and the Curtis
Institute, with Gian Carlo Menotti. He was the recipient of Fulbright
and Guggenheim grants, and a National Institute of Arts and Letters
award. For the Phoenix Theatre, he composed incidental music for the
productions "The Duchess of Malfi", "She Stoops to Conquer", "The
Octoroon", and "Androcles and the Lion"; for the Shakespeare Festival
in Stratford, Connecticut; and also for "Under Milkwood" and
"Tartuffe". He joined ASCAP in 1953.
