Tell me if you’ve heard this one before: After going on a hike and getting “really stoned,” Off! guitarist Dimitri Coats approached his friend and bandmate Keith Morris with a tall order: He wanted to make a film that featured the band… with the singer’s erectile dysfunction as the inciting incident. “I was a little worried (Keith) wouldn’t go for it,” Coats told IndieWire.
Morris, the legendary dreadlocked former lead man for The Circle Jerks, detailed his struggle with diabetes in in his 2016 autobiography “My Damage.” And, as he previously disclosed to Coats, erectile dysfunction (now resolved) was an early warning sign. In the film Coats envisioned, Morris never followed his musical dreams and became a defeated elderly porno store clerk who is inspired by a bout of erectile dysfunction to visit a “boner doctor”.
This leads to a hallucinogenic “antidote” created by aliens with the help of albino bees,...

Rancid, Dropkick Murphys, and AFI are among the bands, artists, and fans who have donated more than $200,000 to a GoFundMe for Sick of It All singer Lou Koller after his recent cancer diagnosis.
As we reported last week, Koller was diagnosed with a tumor in his esophagus, forcing Sick of It All to cancel their European tour. A GoFundMe was subsequently launched, revealing that the tumor is cancerous (adenocarcinoma), and many of his peers in the punk-rock community have donated to help out with his medical bills and loss of income while off the road.
Of the 4,000-plus donations that have come in so far, the aforementioned bands Rancid, Dropkick Murphys, and AFI have made the largest donations at $5,000 each.
In addition, AFI frontman Davey Havok donated a separate $2,000 on his own (under his birth name David Marchand), and fellow scene vets Hot Water Music and Snapcase each contributed $1,000 to the fundraiser,...

More and more Hollywood stars, top musicians, pro athletes, and influential YouTubers are joining the vegan ranks, so the competition for the Hottest Vegan Celebrities of 2018 contest was tougher than ever — but Jaden Smith and the Chloe x Halle sisters have come out on top.
In addition to being an entertainment industry jack-of-all-trades, actor and musician Jaden — who’s newly vegan — reveals that he’s also a whiz in the kitchen. Discussing his favorite meals in an interview with Food & Wine, he said, “I do cook at home because I can make meals for myself really easily, some brown rice, quinoa, beans, maybe some kale, maybe some herb aioli.” And when he’s visiting his famous family, he has plenty of options, too: “Usually, at my parents’ house, there are vegan pancakes,” he added.
Chloe and Halle Bailey went vegan after eating meat-free for a week with their mother, and they’ve never looked back.

“Amy Adams is a monster,” Justin Timberlake informed the black-tie crowd in the Beverly Hilton’s International Ballroom during her American Cinematheque Award Ceremony tribute. “More specifically, a karaoke monster.” When they shot Clint Eastwood’s 2012 “Trouble with the Curve” in Atlanta, Timberlake said the now-five-time Oscar nominee “pretty much bullied me” into a duet of “A Whole New World” from “Aladdin.”
After praising her talents, Timberlake conceded, “Quite frankly, I will sing with you anytime. But next time I’m choosing the goddamned song. 2016 claimed a long list of entertainers, but the grim reaper’s most unexpected one-two punch came between the final two holidays with the death of movie icons Carrie Fisher on December 12 and her mother Debbie Reynolds a mere 36 hours later. With the premiere of the documentary about the pair, “Bright Lights” on HBO this weekend, we at the Geeks site thought we should take a look at their considerable contributions to film.
Let’s start with Carrie, who was born in Hollywood, USA on October 21, 1956, the daughter of Debbie and singer/actor Eddie Fisher. She appeared on stage with her mother throughout the late 60’s and early 70’s, even getting her first small screen credit in the 1969 TV movie “Debbie Reynolds and the Sound of Children”. It wasn’t until 1975, when she would make her big screen debut opposite Warren Beatty (quite an arrival) in Hal Ashby’s hit Shampoo.

After a week or so of weird videos and short teaser songs on streaming services, AFI are finally ready to unveil the madness behind it all: the release of a brand new album. Titled AFI (The Blood Album), their tenth full-length is going to arrive on January 20th, 2017, and to make the announcement sweeter, they’ve premiered not one, but two new songs.
Both tracks, “Snow Cats” and “White Offerings,” are available for listening on your app of choice, and both songs are balls-to-the-walls rockers that AFI are generally known for churning out. “Snow Cats” is at its best with its soaring chorus, while “White Offerings” takes no prisoners on its intense verses surrounded by poppier guitar riffs. Overall, the songs tend to stray more toward the sound that AFI implemented on their 2003 record, Sing the Sorrow.

In the midst of March Madness and with the Kentucky Derby around the corner, the first pitch of baseball season is almost here.

Gwen Stefani releases her new LP This Is What the Truth Feels Like, her first solo album in a decade, on March 18th. But first, the No Doubt singer stopped by The Late Late Show With James Corden to deliver a vibrant version of the album's second single "Make Me Like You."
While the Corden visit lacked the visual fireworks of Stefani's performance/Target commercial at the 2016 Grammys, the stripped-down presentation of the song, complete with some absorbing camerawork, allowed fans to focus in on the catchy, airy track, a...

Soon after Gwen Stefani announced her new solo LP This Is What the Truth Feels Like, her bandmates in No Doubt revealed they had teamed with AFI singer Davey Havok for a new, still-unnamed supergroup of their own. A day after Stefani's Grammy performance/Target-sponsored music video, the singer stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live, where she admitted that she had no prior knowledge about the No Doubt side project. "I actually first heard about it on the Internet," Stefani said.

Earlier this week, Gwen Stefani released her new solo album's track list and then dropped a new song, "Make Me Like You," Thursday night. Clearly the superstar mother of three is doing very well these days. But as she moves on and relaunches her solo career...so go her former band mates. According to Billboard.com, the other members of No Doubt—Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont, and Adrian Young—have recruited Davey Havok, frontman of hard-rock band AFI, to take Stefani's place as lead vocalist while she is busy with her other projects. Fun fact about the new frontman: Havok is a vegan, and won peta2's annual World's Sexiest Vegetarian contest in 2007. Though...

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about shows including Defiance, Game of Thrones, Finding Carter and Mistresses!
1 | Are Defiance’s Omec giving any Star Trek fans out there an Andorians vibe? Also, did not one producer question the optics of killing off in one fell swoop the show’s minority family in the same episode you bring on two black actors as ruthless, purple-skinned villains?
2 | Is it too big of a coincidence that Orphan Black‘s Castor and Leda original is Mrs.

It's strange to think that Steve Martin started out his career at Disneyland. He worked there for eight years, he revealed during his AFI Life Achievement Award show video interview, doing magic tricks, and then moved on to do more magic and banjo playing as well as theater skits at Knott's Berry Farm before writing stints at the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour and multiple appearances on the Johnny Carson Show and Saturday Night Live. The ceremony, held earlier this month, airs Saturday, June 13 at 10pm on TBS. "Steve was the first rock star comedian," stated his frequent Oscar co-presenter Tina Fey (see more of her remarks below), reminding us that he initially took a pay cut, back in 1978, to leave his status at the top of the Billboard arena chart. He was selling out huge stadiums, and Martin admitted that every time he did Saturday Night Live (from King Tut...

Steve Martin was honored on Thursday with the AFI Life Achievement Award, and while many of his famous pals came out to celebrate, there was one special guest that quickly stole the show: Martin Short. Steve and Martin, who costarred as George Banks and Franck Eggelhoffer in Father of the Bride and Father of the Bride Part II, got up to their old tricks on June 4 while walking the red carpet. Steve and Martin posed for hilarious photos, cracked each other up, and linked arms while making their way inside the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Diane Keaton, who played Steve's wife in the hit films, was also on hand to honor her longtime friend. But the night wasn't all about the funny duo. In addition to their cute reunion, the ceremony turned into one big Hollywood date night. Steve and his wife, Anne Stringfield, shared some adorable moments inside the theater,...

Excuse us if we go out on a limb here, but something tells us the collective brain trust at The Academy is glad this awards season has mercifully come to an end. After an incredibly diverse 86th Academy Awards ceremony, where "12 Years a Slave" took Best Picture, a Mexican filmmaker won Best Director, Lupita Nyong'o earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar and John Ridley won Best Adapted Screenplay, the Oscars appeared to take a step back in 2015. It wasn't just that "Selma" was snubbed in a number of major categories. The #OscarsSoWhite hashtag became a historical footnote that will haunt the Academy for years (and, trust, it will be back again if the public wills it). But it had more to do with all white nominees in the acting categories than just "Selma" itself. This also brought to light that it was yet another year without a female nominee in the Best Director category,...

The Writers Guild of America, West has chosen late screenwriter-director-actor-producer Harold Ramis to receive its Laurel Award for Screenwriting Achievement, awarded to a Writers Guild member who has advanced the literature of motion pictures and made outstanding contributions to the profession of the screenwriter. Erica Mann Ramis and family will accept the award on Ramis’ behalf at the Writers Guild Awards ceremony on Saturday, February 14. Harold Ramis passed away on February 24, 2014 at the age of 69. From today’s announcement:
“Harold Ramis changed the face of comedy. His death last year deprived us of his unique way of seeing the world, at once hilarious and wise. From his early work with National Lampoon and Sctv through Animal House, Meatballs, Caddyshack, and Ghostbusters, Ramis’ voice was strong, clear, outrageous in all the best ways. The comic follows the journey of an orphaned adolescent and escaped slave across a blasted wasteland.
Black Mask will finance and produce the project, which expands the experimental 2010 film Godkiller: Walk Among Us, which starred Lance Henriksen, AFI's Davey Havok, Danielle Harris, Bill Moseley and Lydia Lunch.
To follow Walk Among Us, Pizzolo will write and direct Godkiller: Tomorrow's Ashes in 2016 and Godkiller: The Trouble You Took From Her Eyes in 2017.
He is one of the founders of Black Mask alongside Steve Niles and Bad Religion's Brett Gurewitz.
Godkiller launched as a self-published, underground title in 2008 and was subsequently picked up by Black Mask.

After generally reserving this coveted prize to actors and directors who made their mark in dramatic films this is second time in the past three years that the American Film Institute has decided to lighten things up by giving their award to a person who made their mark in comedy. And it has paid off. Mel Brooks got the honor in 2013 and it resulted not only in a hilarious and memorable evening, it got higher ratings and brought the AFI special its first Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special in August. Remember before Keanu Reeves was a badass in The Matrix he was that doofus in a ’80s comedy about time travel that probably isn’t as good as you remember it? You know, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure! It was totally excellent and featured life lessons to live by like “Be Excellent to Each Other” and “Party On Dudes” as eloquently delivered by Abraham Lincoln in a high school auditorium. Yeah, it was totally excellent and probably ruined your ability to pronounce “Socrates” correctly.
