Confirming that British rock’n’rollers Coldplay will perform the half-time show at February 7th’s 50th Super Bowl, frontman Chris Martin said it was “the greatest moment” in his career and the band was “excited and honored and thrilled” to be taking part. A record 118.5 million viewers in the U.S. alone watched Katy Perry perform at the most recent Super Bowl. Coldplay’s artistic director Phil Harvey teased there would be a special guest without elaborating. “We are going…...

Welsh filmmakers Andrew Jones and James Plumb re-team once more following Night of the Living Dead: Resurrection, for yet another film that shares it moniker with a previous film – this time the 1972 film starring John Carradine and Mary Woronov, Silent Night Bloody Night. And as they did with their previous horror flick Jones and Plumb take the basic premise of the ’72 movie and craft a new film around it. So as with Notld: Resurrection, Silent Night, Bloody Night: The Homecoming is essentially a remake of the original film – taking in a number of the same characters, the same abandoned “mansion” and yet another escaped psycho from the local looney bin, yet giving it a British Welsh spin and adding a few new scenes and characters into the mix…...

Touring across the world with their immensely popular fifth album, Mylo Xyloto, Coldplay have released a long-awaited new live film this week, Live 2012, marking their first full live album/concert film in almost a decade.
By far one of my favourite concert films of all time, Live 2012 is directed by Paul Dugdale, whose impressively long list of credits features some of the biggest names in the industry, including (but not limited to) Adele, The Killers, Rihanna, The Prodigy, David Guetta, Jessie J, Lostprophets, The Kooks, Labrinth, Calvin Harris, Skrillex, and most recently Emeli Sandé – a picture of awesomeness clearly starts to emerge.
Whilst busy in the editing room, having just filmed Emeli Sandé’s performance last week at the Royal Albert Hall in London, I had the opportunity to speak to Dugdale about his work with Coldplay on Live 2012, following its theatrical release across the globe last week.

If ever there was a band destined to tour the stadia of the world, it’s Coldplay.
Coldplay Live 2012 is part documentary, part concert film; a fascinating look at the band taking their latest record, Mylo Xyloto, to sold-out venues across the globe.
Opening the film as the album does, with Mylo Xyloto bleeding into Hurts Like Heaven, we then switch back to an audience favourite, In My Place, before coming to our first documentary segment, spliced between a handful of the songs in the sixteen-track set list.
There are many things that separate Coldplay from the vast majority of bands making music today (or in any day), and one of those things is very much their exceptional live performances. You get the feeling that they want each and every person in the audience to feel like a part of the night, and the documentary gives an insight into that desire.

Word on two new books crossed our desk, and since summer reading season is here, we thought we'd pass on the news about Phil Harvey's Show Time about an extreme reality TV series and J. A. Kerswell's The Slasher Movie Book, an overview of the stalk 'n slash film genre.
Show Time Synopsis:
Welcome to the new world of reality TV. Viewing audiences have become totally desensitized to violence and entirely dependent on sensation to escape their boring workaday lives—an addiction nurtured by the media with graphic portrayals of war and crime and with so-called reality programming. TV executives in pursuit of the only things they care about—higher ratings and bigger paychecks—have created the ultimate reality show: Seven people, each bearing the scars of his or her past, are deposited on an island in the middle of Lake Superior. Given some bare necessities and the promise...

What with pre-seasonal excitement building for Steven C. Miller's loose 'Silent Night' remake we can't overlook British Xmas slasher thrills in the form of 'Silent Night, Bloody Night: The Homecoming'. Chris Martin has revealed that Coldplay were in two minds over whether to guest on The X Factor. Speaking to Q magazine, the 'Paradise' singer confirmed that ITV producers have approached the band about appearing on the show. "Sometimes the things that you're offered split the band and that always means you end up not doing them," Martin explained. The 34-year-old, who insisted last month that Coldplay would never perform on the programme, said that he - along with guitarist Jonny Buckland and manager Phil Harvey - were in favour of the idea; with bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion against (more)...

A computer software developer from Newcastle has received thousands of messages of congratulations on Twitter after being mistaken for singer Pj Harvey. Philip John Harvey's @pjharvey account on the microblogging site was flooded with tweets after Polly Jean Harvey won the Mercury Prize on Tuesday evening. Speaking to BBC News, Phil Harvey said that he was cooking dinner when his phone started alerting him of constant messages of support from other Twitter users. "I was just in my kitchen cooking my dinner when my phone started going off. I have it so it notifies me whenever someone mentions me, which happens quite rarely because I'm just an average guy on Twitter," he said. He quickly realised what was going on and tweeted that he was not the singer Pj Harvey, but the fans did not believe him. "I wasn't (more)...
