  • Biological father of Paula Yates. Until a DNA test in 1997, her father was thought to be Jess Yates. The secret had been kept by a journalist and friend of Green's, Noel Botham, who made the revelation at Green's funeral that one of the children from his extramarital affairs was a television presenter. Botham identified the child as Paula Yates in a newspaper the following Sunday.
  • His drawling transatlantic accent was the result of spending his childhood in Canada.
  • His first son, Barry, was born in 1937. They never met.
  • One of his greatest pleasures was to play with his model train sets, he was also an avid collector of vintage model railway items, all of his life.
