Sebastián Silva’s followup to his 2015 drama “Nasty Baby,” “Captain Dad,” chronicles a family vacation gone awry when plans don’t go as scheduled. Now it’s looking like that same premise is happening in real life for the Chilean director. According to The Hollywood Reporter, just days before production was set to begin, the film’s lead, Will Ferrell, has dropped out of the comedy.
Also starring Michael Cera and Catherine Keener, “Captain Dad” was scheduled to begin filming on September 26 in and around Cartagena, Colombia and Ferrell’s exit as the titular character has now left Silva and producers trying to figure out what’s next. Per the site, several of the cast and crew are already in Colombia awaiting to hear what the next steps will be. Producers for the film are Anne Carey, Bingo Gubelmann, Benji Kohn and Austin Stark.

Despite the involvement of two directors making their “30 for 30” debut, “Doc & Darryl” is a sports story told in the Espn documentary series’ house style. Reliving the ascent, precipitous decline and muted return of Darryl Strawberry and Dwight “Doc” Gooden, directors Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio adhere to the familiar format, letting the intertwined stories of the two men’s tragedy-laden lives speak for themselves.
Strawberry and Gooden were two electrifying rookie talents; the former an outfielder with a special blend of speed and power and the latter a gifted right-handed pitcher and strikeout machine. Apatow and Bonfiglio show how, after entering pro baseball within a season of each other, they quickly became staples of sports page headlines and New York nightlife alike. Despite the growing spectre of substance abuse, the two became cornerstones of the 1986 New York Mets’ improbable championship run (capped off by a World Series victory prominently featured...

“I thought it would be much more uplifting,” Apatow said during a Q&A after a screening of the Espn Films “30 for 30” movie in New York on Wednesday. “As it went along, I think we became more and more aware of how recent some of their troubles were, so it changed the documentary in a big way.” Apatow first got involved with the project after Espn Films Manager of Development Jenna Anthony tweeted at the director asking if he had any ideas for “30 for 30,” to which he said, “How about Doc and Darryl?”

The days of Magic, Kareem and Big-Game James feel like ages ago to today’s modern NBA fans. While the prestigious Los Angeles Lakers have carried on winning championships even after their ‘Showtime’ days, many argue that the 80’s and 90’s can be considered the golden age of NBA basketball.
Since then, Los Angeles has managed to field some very competitive teams, some mediocre teams, but rarely ever any bad ones. It can be argued, however, that since the 80’s, never have the Lakers had as hyped up a team as they do now with the additions of Steve Nash and Dwight Howard.
With that in mind, let’s take a look at the current Lakers team and see if the upcoming NBA season will give us the Showtime Lakers 2.0.
Starting lineup:
PG – Steve Nash
Sg – Kobe Bryant
Sf – Metta World Peace
Pf – Pau Gasol
C – Dwight Howard

-- "The Wayman Tisdale Story" (Rendezvous Music/Mack Avenue)
"The Wayman Tisdale Story" is the larger-than-life tale of a three-time college All-American, Olympic gold medalist and 12-year NBA veteran who after he gave up hoops turned to his "first love" – music – and became a contemporary jazz star with several chart-topping CDs. But it's more than that.
It's also the inspirational story of a "gentle giant" – the son and brother of noted preachers_ who always kept his trademark smile and faith in a courageous battle against the bone cancer that eventually claimed his life at age 44 in May 2009.
The CD/DVD package includes a recent documentary, written and directed by Brian Schodorf, that includes some of Tisdale's last interviews in the weeks before his death, as well as footage from his final concert in Memphis, Tenn., when despite having lost half of his right leg, he still thrilled the crowd with...
