The stars won Best Actress and Best Actor for their respective roles in Babygirl and Queer at the 2025 National Board Of Review Gala on Tuesday night (January 7) held at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City.

Elle Fanning was awarded Best Supporting Actress for A Complete Unknown, Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain, and Mikey Madison was awarded Breakthrough Performance for Anora. Conclave stars Ralph Fiennes, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini were on hand to accept the award for Best Ensemble.

The 2024 Vogue World: Paris, held at Place Vendome, celebrated the longstanding connection between fashion and sports, which dates back to the 1920s. It brought together 188 athletes, 151 models, 70 dancers, and a 40-piece orchestra for a night of glitz and glamour.

The Berlin film festival has appointed Jacqueline Lyanga and Michael Stutz as co-directors of film programming, as part of a new-look executive team.

The duo were appointed by new Berlinale director Tricia Tuttle. They will work with Tuttle to curate the Competition and Berlinale Special sections including Berlinale Special Gala, and will lead the wider team on shaping the overall film selection.

Stutz will continue in his current role as head of the Panorama section, alongside his new co-director of programming duties.

Tuttle has also made three new executive appointments as part of the new governance structure, announced in April.

Over the next five years, £9.5bn of investment in London is expected to be generated as a result of Film London’s support for film, TV and animation production, according to figures released by the organisation this morning.

This investment would add an additional £1bn Gva (gross value added) for London over the same five-year period, leading to 2028-2029.

The release of the figures coincided with Film London’s 20th anniversary, celebrated with an event at London’s The Standard Hotel.

Adam Elliot’s stop-motion animation Memoir Of A Snail has won the Cristal for best film at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

The Australian film was selected from 12 titles in the main Competition. Elliot’s second feature Memoir follows Grace, a lonely misfit who hoards snails and who strikes up an enduring friendship with Pinky, an eccentric elderly woman.

Anton and Charades co-represent sales on the film, and secured multiple key deals shortly prior to the festival opening including Benelux, Spain and Scandinavian territories.

French fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier says working on an untitled animated feature with Belgium’s nWave Studios will take “more time than to do a fashion collection”.

Gaultier will be “artistic director” on the film, which Benoit Philippon will direct from a script by French writers Emilie Freche and Amanda Sthers.

Beginning in the countryside boutique of a former fashion model, the film will follow a clothes moth that dreams of becoming a fashion designer, and travels to Paris to launch a fashion show.

The Untitled Jean-Paul Gaultier Project is being produced by nWaves Studios, the Belgium-based animation production house behind family hits such as Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness and Bigfoot Family.

The project is based on an original idea by writer Emilie Frèche, sparked by her own experiences growing up with parents and extended family members in the fashion industry.

The fairytale-style story revolves around a fashionista young moth who escapes a provincial thrift store run by a retired model called Kiki, and makes her way to Paris with ambitions to pursue a career in haute couture.

For some, the message Cate Blanchett brought to the Cannes red carpet on Monday rang loud and clear. At first, her form-fitting, off-the-shoulder Jean Paul Gaultier gown – designed by the Colombian-born French designer Haider Ackermann – looked like a simple black dress. But when Blanchett moved, cameras captured the back of the dress, which appeared white. When she lifted her hem, they captured its green inner lining, too. Against the red carpet, Blanchett appeared to be a walking tribute to the Palestinian flag.

It wouldn’t be out of character for the Australian actor. Last November, amid a flurry of silencing of Hollywood figures who spoke out against the atrocities of Israel’s war on Gaza, Blanchett called for a ceasefire and support of refugees at the European parliament.
