The 2025 animated superhero comedy Dog Man, directed by Peter Hastings, was released in the theatres this Friday. It earned a strong number on its release day, staying above Encanto but below Elemental. Scroll below for more.

The animated feature is based on the children’s graphic novel series of the same name, which is also a spin-off and story within a story of Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie. It is also the second film in the Captain Underpants franchise. The voice cast comprises Pete Davidson, Lil Rel Howery, Isla Fisher, Poppy Liu, Stephen Root, Billy Boyd, and Ricky Gervais, with the filmmaker providing vocal effects for the titular character.

According to Luiz Fernando’s report, Dog Man is set to crush the industry’s projections as it has collected a strong $10.8 million on Friday. It also includes $1.4 million on Thursday previews.

Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan, The Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde, and others honored the late Mark Lanegan during a tribute concert at the Roadhouse in London on Thursday night (December 5th).

The star-studded show, dubbed “Mark Lanegan 60 – A Celebration,” was held in honor of the late singer’s 60th birthday (he would have turned 60 on November 25th). The Screaming Trees frontman and erstwhile member of Queens of the Stone Age passed away in February 2022 at the age of 57.

The 30-song setlist featured the performers singing mostly Lanegan’s solo tunes along with three Screaming Trees songs and one Gutter Twins number (“The Stations”).

The show was divided into mini sets, with Gahan singing the first four numbers, then Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream) and Alison Mosshart each singing a block of songs. Lanegan’s Gutter Twins bandmate Greg Dulli took on four songs, including the aforementioned tune “The Stations.

Josh Homme, Dave Gahan, Chrissie Hynde, and Greg Dulli were among the friends and collaborators who paid tribute to the late Mark Lanegan at a London concert on Thursday, marking what would have been the singer’s 60th birthday.

Alison Mosshart, Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, Ed Harcourt, the Soulsavers, and Troy Van Leeuwen also took part in the memorial show at London’s Roundhouse, which featured 30 songs from Lanegan’s catalog, spanning his Screaming Trees track to his solo work and side projects.

If The Cat in the Hat ever receives another live-action adaptation, the powers that be should know who to cast as the titular Dr. Seuss character. Fan-favorite digital creator BossLogic has returned with a new piece of art that imagines The Penguin star Cristin Milioti as The Cat in the Hat.

After a behind-the-scenes image of Milioti from the set of The Penguin was shared online, a DC fan noted that the Sofia Falcone actor "low-key" looked like Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat, who was previously played in live-action by Mike Myers in a 2003 adaptation that is widely regarded as one of the worst movies ever made. After BossLogic noticed the fan's comment, he was spurred into action, using his talents to transform Milioti into The Cat in the Hat. The final product is both hilarious and a bit unsettling. Chucky has been terrorizing audiences for over three and a half decades, but it seems his run has finally come to an end. The television series, based on the iconic Child’s Play franchise, followed seven films and served as a sequel to the 2017 movie Cult of Chucky. The late Mark Lanegan will be honored with a December 5th tribute show at London’s Roundhouse. The concert will feature Depeche Mode’s Dave Gahan, Queens of the Stone Age’s Josh Homme, the Pretenders’ Chrissie Hynde, and Afghan Whigs’ Greg Dulli, among others.

The show, dubbed “Mark Lanegan 60 – A Celebration,” will take place 10 days after what would have been the singer-songwriter’s 60th birthday (November 25th). The onetime Screaming Trees frontman died at the age of 57 on February 22nd, 2022.

Among the other artists set to perform are Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age), Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream), Alison Mosshart, and multi-instrumentalist Duke Garwood. The production team Soulsavers will serve as the house band.

The movie – which is liberally doused with romance – sees Grace Kelly and Cary Grant, a string of burglaries and a whole lot of fun. Because it’s Alfred Hitchcock and nearly 70 years old, To Catch A Thief is now filed as a posh slice of cinema, and perhaps it is. But just like something such as North By Northwest (which is due on 4K disc later this year too), this is a tremendous amount of fun, a blockbuster movie in vintage clothes.

Last week, news broke that Bill Hader would voice the lead in Warner Bros. new fully animated movie The Cat in the Hat, based on Dr. Seuss’ 1957 classic children’s book. Today, the studio confirmed that the film will hit theaters in March 2026, with Hader joined by current SNL player Bowen Yang and longtime SNL writer Paula Pell, as well as Quinta Brunson, Matt Berry, and Xochitl Gomez.

For the longest time, animation has been hindered by a misguided notion that animated movies are meant for kids. Sure, there have always been popular outliers like the infamous Fritz the Cat and 1981’s Heavy Metal, but it was only recently that animation began to be legitimized by the industry at large (even if that’s mostly due to a handful of auteurs like Guillermo del Toro publicly defending animation as a medium instead of a genre).

“My Cosmos Is Mine” begins with some ominous, distant-sounding drums before Dave Gahan’s vocals come in soaked with reverb: “Don’t play with my world/ Don’t mess with my mind/ Don’t question my spacetime/ My cosmos is mine.” Sounds like it could be directed at a single person, but the track quickly becomes more broad as it morphs into a protest anthem. “No final breaths/ No senseless deaths,” Gahan sings near the song’s end, after he begs for “no war” and “no fear.”

“My Cosmos Is Mine” has a bit more of an industrial influence than Depeche Mode’s typical synth-pop. It’s not exactly the feel-good hit of the summer, but they certainly pull off its foreboding and dystopian aesthetic. Listen to the song below.

Depeche Mode has announced new tour dates to coincide with the release of their upcoming album Memento Mori which was announced in October and will release in March of 2023. This will be the first Depeche Mode album to not include Andy Fletcher, who passed away this past Spring.

Martin Gore and Dave Gahan, the remaining bandmembers, began recording this project before the pandemic, but “After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue it as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted,” Gore told Live Nation Entertainment.

Harry Styles has cancelled the first show of his residency in Chicago due to tour party illness.

The announcement was made on Thursday (6 October) by The United Center in Chicago where the “Watermelon Sugar” star was due to perform, citing an “abundance of caution”.

“Out of an abundance of caution, tonight’s Harry Styles show on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at United Center has been rescheduled to Monday, October 10, 2022 due to band/crew illness,” wrote the venue on Twitter.

However, Styles has not included any update on his own social media, leaving a question over the health of the singer himself. Given that shows will continue from 8 October, it would be hoped that any touring illness is not serious.

Depeche Mode’s frontman Dave Gahan has reflected on his relationship with keyboard player, Andy Fletcher following his death.

The musician and band’s founding member died of an aortic dissection aged 60 in May.

Earlier this week, Depeche Mode announced news of their new album and their first live dates in five years.

Speaking to NME, Gahan admitted that the death of his bandmate was “the last thing we expected to happen”.

"I will forever wish I’d been a little bit kinder to Fletch as I go forward,” said Gahan reflecting on their relationship. “I will try to remember that with people I meet in the future too. I was always a bit of a d*** with him, he was always a bit of a d*** with me too.”

Forty-two years later, founding members Martin Gore and Dave Gahan are about to embark on yet another sonic adventure with the release of their 15th studio album, Memento Mori, and a world tour that kicks off March 3. They will play a number of arenas in North America (including L.A.’s Kia Forum on March 28) before heading to Europe, where they will headline a series of stadium shows.

Tragically, one of their founding members will not be along for the ride: Andy Fletcher died unexpectedly earlier this year. That the new album, titled well before Fletcher’s passing, is named for a Latin phrase about “the inevitability of death” adds unintended significance to the project.

Depeche Mode have announced their first live dates in five years.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees announced the news on Tuesday (4 October) while in Berlin, and also announced a new album.

The Memento Mori Tour will support the forthcoming 15th studio record, titled Memento Mori, due out next spring.

This will be the band’s first tour since the death of founding member and keyboard player Andy Fletcher.

“Fletch would have loved this album,” said lead-singer Dave Gahan while speaking about Memento Mori.

“We’re really looking forward to sharing it with you soon, and we can’t wait to present it to you live at the shows next year.”

During the peak of the pandemic, Depeche Mode’s members found themselves simultaneously making sense of Covid’s widespread loss while trying to appreciate life in the moment. Those two themes kept popping up when frontman Dave Gahan and singer and multi-instrumentalist Martin Gore were writing lyrics for what would become their 15th album. They embraced this idea by calling the album Memento Mori.

“The direct translation [for ‘memento mori’] is, ‘Remember that you must die,'” Gahan says via phone from Berlin, a few days before the band’s Tuesday press conference announcing Memento Mori.

Update, with cause of death Andy “Fletch” Fletcher, keyboard player and founding member of the British band Depeche Mode, died after suffering an aortic dissection while at home on May 26, the band said in a statement on Instagram today.

The cause of death was disclosed by the band at the request of Fletcher’s family, according to the post.

The members of Depeche Mode take a backseat in Anton Corbijn’s new concert film, “Depeche Mode: Spirits in the Forest.” Instead, the director shifts the spotlight to six fans, whose personal stories are woven throughout footage from the final night of band’s Global Spirit Tour in Berlin. Originally, the Dutch director simply wanted to create a document of his stage design for the tour, but the band felt that there needed to be a more impactful reason for the film and took inspiration from Chris Hegedus and D.A. Pennebaker 1989 endeavor on the group, “101.”

“I don’t like to watch concert films, myself,” Corbijn tells Variety. “[This] was initially very narcissistic for me. But it ended up being a great way to do it.”

The six fans, who come from all over the world — including Los Angeles, Romania and Mongolia —were selected from a massive pool of possible subjects.
