The AMC Networks June 2025 schedule has been announced and includes the premiere of the new AMC Original adventure series Nautilus, the gripping season finales of AMC’s The Walking Dead: Dead City and AMC+ original crime drama Scrublands, Acorn TV’s new series Art Detectives, and new unscripted series Relative Secrets.

The lineup also includes Shudder’s psychological horror Hell Motel, from the creators of Slasher, and the Sundance true crime limited series The Killer Clown: Murder on the Doorstep and Butchers of L.A.

Get ready to set sail on adventure, as AMC has confirmed when American audiences can finally watch Nautilus!

Among the many science fiction classics, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea holds a special place. Jules Verne’s 1870 novel was far ahead of its time on undersea exploration via a massive submarine called the Nautilus, captained by the renegade Captain Nemo.

The tale has been adapted numerous times, most notably in 1954’s Disney version starring Kirk Douglas and Paul Mason as Nemo. There have been other takes on it from movies to ABC’s Once Upon a Time.

Now, at last, American audiences have a peek at a prequel series, Nautilus. TV Line confirms that the series will premiere Sunday, June 29 at 9/8c on AMC and AMC+, with its first two episodes. Additional episodes will premiere weekly on Sundays, leading to a double-episode season finale on Aug. 17.

The show has an interesting history.

The nautical fantasy series Nautilus, a ten-episode Paramount production originally intended for Disney+ in 2023, has found a new home and will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on June 29th.

The fact that all episodes of the ambitious and visually rich series had already wrapped filming made Disney+'s subsequent decision all the more noteworthy when they opted not to release it.

This move, reportedly driven by evolving strategic objectives within the streaming service and a directive to reduce overall expenditures, had a ripple effect across several projects in development or completion.

Alongside Nautilus, this change in direction also resulted in the unexpected vaulting of the Willow series and the cancelation of The Spiderwick Chronicles, leaving creators and audiences alike surprised and disappointed by the platform's change of course.

Season one of AMC’s Nautilus just debuted a 45-second teaser, showing off the undersea world and teasing, “From the darkest depths of the ocean comes the ultimate fight for survival.” The action drama will premiere on June 29, 2025 with the release of the first two episodes.

Last year, a Jules Verne-inspired sea adventure series that explores the origins of Captain Nemo was canceled by Disney+. The show, Nautilus, then found a new home at AMC. It will also stream on Prime in the UK and Ireland and on Stan in Australia. Nautilus had already finished shooting when Disney dropped the series as a cost-cutting measure. As stated by CFO Christine McCarthy, “We are in the process of reviewing the content on our Dtc services to align with the strategic changes in our approach to content curation…As a result, we will be removing certain content from our streaming platforms, and currently expect to take an impairment charge of approximately $1.5 to $1.8 billion.” Nautilus has now unleashed a new trailer courtesy of Prime Video, by way of Deadline.

The series has been on an interesting journey, having initially been with Disney+ before switching to AMC, Prime Video in the UK and Ireland and Stan in Australia. Deadline revealed Disney was ditching Nautilus around a year ago and soon after AMC announced it was picking it up. AMC Networks has grabbed linear and streaming rights to Nautilus — a reimagining of Jules Verne’s classic novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea — in the United States and Canada. The series, which hails from British companies Moonriver TV and All3Media-owned Seven Stories, was initially set for Disney+, which picked it up to series in August 2021. After scrapping the show earlier this year as part of a content write-down, however, Disney Entertainment has licensed Nautilus to AMC and its sibling streamer AMC+, which plan to air the series in 2024.

Disney+ is canceling another completed series, Nautilus, as the show's production company looks for a new home. Based on the Jules Verne novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and consisting of ten parts, Nautilus is a live-action show about the origins of Captain Nemo and his famous submarine The Nautilus. In the Disney+ retelling, Star Trek: Discovery's Shazad Latif would have played Nemo.

The House of Mouse has shut its door in the face of two upcoming Disney+ series, as both Nautilus and The Spiderwick Chronicles have removed from their upcoming slate of programming. Both series, which had already concluded filming, are now being shopped to other studios.

As reported by Deadline, the move to ax both Nautilus and The Spiderwick Chronicles comes as Disney+ is looking to cut some serious costs. As previously stated by CFO Christine McCarthy, “We are in the process of reviewing the content on our Dtc services to align with the strategic changes in our approach to content curation…As a result, we will be removing certain content from our streaming platforms, and currently expect to take an impairment charge of approximately $1.5 to $1.8 billion.” This aligns with the studio removing such titles as Willow, Y: The Last Man and dozens of others from Disney+.

Exclusive: Nautilus, the UK live-action Captain Nemo series commissioned by Disney+ two years ago, is no longer headed to the streamer, Deadline has learned.

The decision is part of Disney’s streaming content removal plan unveiled in May, for which the company is taking an impairment charge of approximately $1.5 billion-$1.8 billion. It followed the February announcement by Disney that it intends to cut $3 billion in non-sports content spend across the company.

As part of the cost-reduction strategy, Disney’s streaming platforms, particularly flagship Disney+, have been taking a closer look on their programming with a new emphasis on content curation.

The company reached a milestone with “Liaison,” a thriller series created and entirely penned by Virginie Brac (“Spiral”) and directed by Stephen Hopkins. The series, inspired by Julie Verne’s novel “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea,” stars Shazad Latif (“Star Trek: Discovery”) in the lead role. Shooting is underway in Australia’s Queensland-based Village Roadshow Studios.

The series switches the viewpoint on Verne’s classic story, giving viewers the chance to see things from Captain Nemo’s point of view for the first time. Nemo is an Indian Prince who is removed from his home, family and birthright and taken prisoner by the East India Mercantile Company.

Focused only on revenge against those who have ruined his life, Nemo sets sail on the Nautilus, aided by a ragtag bunch of sailors, and soon finds himself battling not only his enemies but also discovering a mindblowing underwater world.
