St. Vincent’s seventh studio album, All Born Screaming, has arrived.
Described by St. Vincent’s Annie Clark as a “post-plague pop” album about “heaven and hell — the metaphorical kinds,” All Born Screaming was first announced this past February, and was preceded by its singles, “Broken Man,” “Flea,” and “Big Time Nothing.”

The album’s full tracklist spans 10 songs, and includes contributions from exciting collaborators like Dave Grohl, Josh Freese, Cate Le Bon (who features on the title track), and more.
One poignant moment is the song “Sweetest Fruit,” which was partially inspired by the legacy and death of Sophie, who Clark “never met,” but was “an admirer from afar,” according to a recent interview. Stream All Born Screaming in its entirety below.

The seventh album that singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist Annie Clark has released as St. Vincent teems with the kind of visceral imagery that sticks with you long after her songs fade out. There’s a “hungry little flea” ready to infect your “warm body,” a predator on the street turning aggression into an evil blues promise, a sink that runs red, a head that won’t stop banging, a dream that ends in hell. “I feel like graffiti on a urinal,” she sings. Hey, we’ve all been there.
Clark’s music has always been fearlessly intimate.

St. Vincent rolled out “Big Time Nothing” ahead of the release of her first self-produced record and seventh album, All Born Screaming, due Friday.
“Don’t blink/Don’t wait/Don’t walk/You’re late/Don’t fall from grace, behave/ Don’t trip, sashay,” St. Vincent sings against a fever-dream beat, before declaring, “I look inside your eyes” and counting down to the next verse. “Don’t show/Don’t flake/Go hard, debase/Don’t make a dishonest mistake/Don’t be so sure I need a cure.

Maynard James Keenan has been celebrating his 60th birthday all month with two of his bands — A Perfect Circle and Puscifer — along with Primus on the “Sessanta” tour. On Saturday night (April 20th) at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, fans were treated to all three of Keenan’s bands when Tool gave a surprise performance toward the end of the concert.
The tour usually has a no-video policy until the last song of the night, which is Puscifer’s “Grand Canyon,” but Keenan said from the stage that he would permit filming of the next song because he had “picked up some strays” to join him onstage. At that point, Tool’s Danny Carey, Adam Jones, and Justin Chancellor walked out to the delight of the fans.

Can you feel the Kenergy? Ryan Gosling will, in fact, perform “I’m Just Ken” at the 2024 Academy Awards, according to Variety.
The Barbie hit was written by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, and features guitarists Slash and Wolfgang Van Halen and drummer Josh Freese. Presumably, some of those artists will join Gosling on stage for his performance at the Oscars.
Speaking to Consequence in a recent interview, Ronson explained that having Slash, Van Halen, and Freese play on the track was an idea they came up with at the “11th hour.”
“We wrote it as this ballad and it was pretty earnest, just piano — it was really lovely, because Ryan’s vocal over it was really vulnerable. But then we started playing it against the film and there’s this battle scene happening — Saving Private Ryan, but on, like, pedal boats,” Ronson said. “It needed to get bigger and bigger and bigger.

St. Vincent has opened up about her follow-up to 2021’s Daddy’s Home, and it sure sounds interesting. In a new interview with Mojo magazine, the artist born Annie Clark said her new album is “darker and harder” than her most recent project and described its sound as “urgent and psychotic.”
Clark self-produced the album and recorded it at her own Compound Fracture studio in LA, New York’s Electric Lady, and Steve Albini’s Electrical Audio in Chicago. “I needed to go deeper in finding my own sonic vocabulary,” she said about the experience. “I like to think of [the record] as post-plague pop, it’s a lot about heaven and hell — the metaphorical kinds. Which is appropriate, because sitting alone in a studio for that many hours I would say is a version of hell.”
She added that the album is filled with “lots of guitars” alongside ’70s and ’80s analog synths.

He’s just Ken … not a guy who likes to sing at awards shows.
One of the big question marks about the 96th Academy Awards ceremony on March 10 is whether or not Ryan Gosling will perform his Oscar-nominated show-stopper “I’m Just Ken,” one of the five nominees for Best Song. The actor has been extremely coy about making an appearance, making jokes like, “Do you get paid to sing at the Oscars?”
The send-up of 1980s power ballads is nominated for Best Song and was co-written and produced by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. Ronson, the British hit-maker with an Oscar win for “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born” and eight Grammys for work with Amy Winehouse, Silk City, and his own pop juggernaut, “Uptown Funk,” was spotted on the Grammys red carpet Sunday night by Variety, and asked if he had any further intel.

“My buddy told me, ‘this is just a microdose of mushrooms,’ and he was lying,” Bublé said during a media press conference on Thursday. “So, I’ll be honest, I thought I was in Blades of Glory for most of the time that I was out there, until it sort of settled down and then I realized, ‘Holy shit, I am in the NHL All-Star Game.”
Bublé later backtracked the admission when approached by YouTuber Steve Dangle during the evening’s dinner: “It was a joke,” Bublé said in a video Dangle shared to Twitter. “Of course I wasn’t [on mushrooms]! “I’m Just Ken,” the showstopping number performed by Ryan Gosling in “Barbie,” took Mark Ronson and co-songwriting partner Andrew Wyatt just two days to write. “But we needed the entire year to make it what it was,” notes Ronson.
It’s been a contender to nab an Oscar original song nomination ever since it was first teased in the film’s trailer earlier this year. Part power ballad and part dance-off, “I’m Just Ken” showcases Ken at his neediest, with such lyrics as “Is it my destiny to live and die a life of blonde fragility?”
Their writing process included at least four or five different versions of the catchy tune. “We had it pretty quick, but then Greta asked for the bridge bit,” says Ronson.
However, once they saw a rough cut of Greta Gerwig’s film, Ronson asked to score it, and recorded the song and...

Foo Fighters — made up of Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Chris Shiflett, Pat Smear, Rami Jaffee and Josh Freese — had their ninth appearance as the musical guest.
Season 49 kicked off with Pete Davidson and Ice Spice as the host and musical guest duo, respectively. The premiere episode drew in 4.8 million viewers, with Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce making a surprise appearance. Kelce appeared in a skit mocking the NFL’s obsession with his romance with Swift. Other notable sketches included Davidson’s “I’m Just Pete” anthem, a spoof of Ryan Goslings’ “I’m Just Ken” musical number from “Barbie.” The episode scored a...

Greta Gerwig's "Barbie" is the kind of movie that makes you wonder "How did they do that?" a dozen different times over the course of its runtime. The box office hit of the summer is chock full of movie magic, from its Dream House sets decked out to the most minute detail with real Mattel merch made life-size, to its practically achieved transition montage to the real world. Now, one of its biggest sequences -- the chart-climbing musical extravaganza "I'm Just Ken" -- is finally getting the behind-the-scenes treatment with an official music video from Atlantic Records.
The "I'm Just Ken" video follows in the tradition of great tie-in music videos past, in that it basically doubles as a featurette showing how the film's biggest sequence came together. If you want to see the layers of music, choreography, vocals, and more that went into the scene, this is the video for you.

“I’m Just Ken” should have been one of the most ridiculous moments in Barbie, but Ryan Gosling‘s commitment to the bit is Oscar-worthy. In an exclusive music video for the song, behind-the-scenes footage shows the actor undergoing the most unserious transformation of his career while director Greta Gerwig watches along starry-eyed and overwhelmingly proud of her creation.

Foo Fighters and Michael Bublé treated fans to a surprise performance over the weekend.
Bublé joined Dave Grohl and co. on stage at Outside Lands festival in San Francisco on Saturday to belt out his 2009 track “Haven’t Met You Yet”.
Grohl has been mentioning Bublé a lot on tour recently during new live drummer Josh Freese’s medley dedicated to the numerous musicians he’s worked with over the years, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Bublé made the list, which also included the likes of Guns N’ Roses, Paramore, Blink-182, Avril Lavigne, Beastie Boys, Offspring and Nine Inch Nails.
Grohl has been inviting fans on stage to sing their rendition of “Haven’t Met You Yet”. However, after people failed to know the lyrics during Saturday’s performance, that’s when Grohl invited one very special guest up on stage.

As a way to introduce Foo Fighters’ new live drummer Josh Freese, Dave Grohl dedicates a portion of the band’s show to running through some of Freese’ previous work in bands including Devo, Nine Inch Nails, Beastie Boys, and — yes, Michael Bublé. However, as Grohl is unfamiliar with the lyrics to Bublé’s “Haven’t Met You Yet,” he recently began welcoming fans to the stage who claim to know the song.
During Foo Fighters’ headlining set at Outside Lands on Sautrday, Grohl called up a “super fan” who was holding a sign that read, “I <3 Bublé.” As it turned out, said super fan was none other than Bublé himself. Watch video below.
“This motherfucker better know the song,” Grohl joked. Later, the Foo Fighters frontman let fans in on the joke. “We’ve been doing that thing where people from the audience come up and say ‘I know that fucking song,...

He’s just Ken, but he’s Kenough to enter the Billboard Hot 100. “I’m Just Ken,” Ryan Gosling‘s ballad for the Barbie movie, has officially entered the charts at No. 87.
“I’m Just Ken” marks Gosling’s first appearance on the Billboard charts, a milestone made all the more funny when you learn the actor has ventured into music before, in a more serious capacity (check out his indie band Dead Man’s Bones). Still, if you ask us, the song is a welcome addition to the cultural canon, the culmination of Gosling’s complete commitment to playing the anguished righthand man to everyone’s favorite doll.
In addition to “I’m Just Ken,” which features contributions from rock royalty Slash, Wolfgang Van Halen, and Josh Freese, Gosling recorded another memorable song for Barbie: a cover of Matchbox Twenty’s “Push.” That number comes later in the film,...

Brandi Carlile has shared a cover of Indigo Girls’ “Closer to Fine,” which appears as a bonus cut on the “Best Weekend Ever Edition” of the Barbie soundtrack alongside star Ryan Gosling’s version of Matchbox Twenty’s classic hit “Push.”
Carlile and her wife, Catherine Carlile, transform the rollicking original version of “Closer to Fine” into an acoustic ballad intertwining their beautiful vocals. Stream it below.
“Closer to Fine” appears on Indigo Girls’ self-titled second studio album, which marked their first major label release when it came out in 1989. Carlile previously performed the song with the folk duo during a June 2008 show in Tucson, Arizona — one of the many times she’s appeared on stage with the pioneering group. They also appeared on “Cannonball” from Carlile’s 2007 album, The Story. Last year, she presented Indigo Girls with the Spirit of Americana Free Speech Award at the Americana Music Honors & Awards.

Ken doesn’t know who he is without Barbie in Ryan Gosling’s single for the upcoming Greta Gerwig-directed and Margot Robbie-starring Barbie movie.
The long-teased song “Just Ken,” sees Barbie’s long-standing boyfriend grappling with what it means to be “number two” in his relationship with the iconic Mattel doll. The minute-and-half look at the song not only features new footage of Gosling’s Ken and Robbie’s Barbie but also a wider look at a group dance number featuring all the movie’s Kens.
The ballad’s lyrics see Gosling emotionally addressing the fact that the doll is “always number two,” and how anywhere else he’d be a 10, but here, he’s “just Ken.”
“Is it my destiny to live a life of blond fragility?” Gosling’s Ken wonders as this “Beach Ken” is launched into the air after having tried to surf. “What will...

After headlining himself last year, Paul McCartney returned to Glastonbury in 2023 as a spectator. And by all accounts, he had one hell of a time.
McCartney was seen watching several of the weekend’s performances from the side of the stage. On Friday, he took in Foo Fighters’ surprise set. On Saturday, he watched as Guns N’ Roses covered Wings’ “Live and Let Die.” And on Sunday, he was capturing his own cell phone video of Elton John performing “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me.”
Macca also briefly popped up on stage during Pretenders’ Saturday set, where he gave the crowd a quick wave. He hung out backstage with Chrissie Hynde, posed for a photo with Foo Fighters drummer Josh Freese (and Pat Smear), and even took in a sun set with his wife Nancy Shevell.

The rumors were true, after all: Foo Fighters performed a surprise set at Glastonbury Friday evening.
Dave Grohl and company took the Pyramid stage at 6:10 p.m. UK time, a block previously occupied on the schedule by placeholder alias The Churnups; real Foos heads might recall that the band’s first-ever Glastonbury performance in 1998 took place on the very same stage around the same time slot. Nowadays, it’s hard to imagine them not headlining, but Primal Scream was the main event on that very muddy evening. Foo Fighters did end up headlining the fest in 2017, after dropping out in 2015 due to Grohl’s infamous broken leg.
Foo Fighters’ nine-song setlist was mostly packed with greatest hits, including “All My Life,” “The Pretender,” “Best of You,” and “Everlong.” The band also played a pair of songs from their new album, But Here We Are, including “Rescued” and “Show Me How” with Violet Grohl.

On Sunday, Foo Fighters closed out Bonnaroo with a 19-song set that featured hits, guest appearances, a tribute to their late drummer Taylor Hawkins, and some fun covers, including a snippet of Beastie Boys’ 1994 classic, “Sabotage.”
“Fuck, let’s do it — go, Nate, go,” frontman Dave Grohl said onstage in front of the crowd in Manchester, Tennessee, cuing bassist Nate Mendel to kick off the song’s opening riff. As the intro burst into the first verse, Grohl hopped in, doing his best Ad-Rock impersonation.
The band made it a few lines before Grohl pulled the plug, saying “I can’t fucking rap and I don’t know the song, though I love it.” He then told the crowd: “Next year, we’ll come back to Bonnaroo, we’ll play at the fucking ‘Wha-What Stage’ and we’ll do a whole Beastie Boys set, how about that?” Watch a video of the performance below.

When their drummer Taylor Hawkins died last year at age 50, Foo Fighters took a while to regroup. They played some tribute shows but mostly mourned the loss off-stage and in the studio. Late last month, the band embarked on their first tour without Hawkins and their first with new drummer Josh Freese. Everything on stage might feel different, but the energy from the people showing up to see the show is the same — if not even more charged. Frontman Dave Grohl felt this most palpably and penned an emotional handwritten...

On Sunday, Foo Fighters closed out the 2023 Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio. It marked the band’s third gig with new live drummer Josh Freese, and as a way to introduce him to the Foo Fighters faithful, Dave Grohl dedicated a portion of the set to covering a few songs from Freese’s previous bands. Notably, they included a brief but epic rendition of Nine Inch Nails’ “March of the Pigs.”
The “March of the Pigs cover” came as part of a medley that also included Devo’s “Whip It” and Puddle of Mudd’s “Blurry.” Prior to linking up with Foo Fighters, Freese drummed for Nin between 2005 and 2008, and contributed to Puddle of Mudd’s 2001 album Come Clean. “How about we do a song with one of my favourite drummers in the world?” Dave Grohl told the audience before performing the tune. “Ladies and gentlemen, Shane Hawkins!”
As per People, the band was originally expected to play in the music festival in 2022 with Hawkins, but they dropped out when he died unexpectedly at age 50 in March of that year.

Foo Fighters are counting down the days until their new album But Here We Are. Before it’s out on June 2nd, they’ve shared another single called “Show Me How,” which features guest vocals from Dave Grohl’s daughter Violet Grohl.
“Show Me How” kicks off with a cacophony of roaring, shoegazey guitars, bolstered by fast-paced, rattling drums. Those elements are juxtaposed with Dave Grohl’s surprisingly gentle vocals; Violet joins him in unison for almost the entirety of the song, until she splits off into a pleasant harmony near the song’s end. The younger Grohl has flaunted her pipes plenty times before, but it’s nice to hear the duo together in-studio.
Lyrically, “Show Me How” appears to grapple with loss — a theme that carries an especially heavy weight in light of Taylor Hawkins’ death: “Where are you now?/ Who will show me how?” the Grohls sing.

Hours after Foo Fighters returned to the stage for their first concert with new drummer Josh Freese, the band released “Show Me How,” the latest single off their upcoming album But Here We Are.
The atmospheric, shoegaze-inspired track almost serves as a duet between Dave Grohl and his daughter Violet Grohl, whose vocals feature prominently throughout and take centerstage on the outro.
“Where have you gone? / I walk in circles / Back to square one / Made it through yesterday,” Grohl sings on the opening verse. “Spilling wine, thinking of the time / I wrote you a melody.
