Hulu CEO insists: We don't think like a network
Ike Barinholtz, Taran Killam, Bobby Lee, Kenan Thompson, Paula Pell, and Seth Meyers in The Awesomes (2013)
To (incorrectly) paraphrase LL Cool J, don’t call it a network. The idea of TV is definitely shifting, especially given Netflix’s 14 Emmy nominations this year, and Hulu is helping push that concept even further, to the point that it doesn’t relate to the traditional network model.

“We’re not really a network, we’re not really a studio,” Hulu acting CEO Andy Forssell told reporters during the Television Critics Association press tour Wednesday. “We’re a distributor at heart.” Forssell says Hulu goes out “looking for voices,” as opposed to networks that try to find shows that fit their point of view.

The BBC has commissioned a second series of comedy series Mrs Brown's Boys. BBC One controller Danny Cohen and comedy commissioning controller Cheryl Taylor green lit the second run following strong ratings for the Brendan O'Carroll sitcom. Based on a stage show about Dublin matriarch Agnes Brown (O'Carroll), the show also featured O'Carroll's real life family members in the extended cast. "This is unbelievable! I'm just thrilled that the BBC continues to have confidence in the show," said the comic. "The support we have had from all involved, from Danny Cohen and Mark Freeland and BBC Scotland, makes us just so excited to get back there and do it all again. "Producer Stephen McCrum promised me that he would be faithful to the (more)...

Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant unveil pilot
Ricky Gervais
London -- "The Office" and "Extras" creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant have unveiled their new project, "Life's Too Short," a 30-minute single-camera comedy pilot for BBC2.

The show centers on Warwick Davis, Britain's pre-eminent little person actor who has appeared in such boxoffice hit franchises including "Star Wars" and "Harry Potter." Gervais and Merchant appear in minor roles.

The observational comedy follows Davis in his day-to-day life, complete with the frustrations he faces, in his first major role for the BBC.

"We're having so much fun working with Warwick. Pound for pound he is one of the funniest men I know," Gervais said.

The pilot will be produced by Charlie Hanson with Michelle Farr for the BBC's in-house comedy production unit and will be executive produced by Gervais and Merchant, with Mark Freeland.

BBC2 controller Janice Hadlow said the project was part of the network's comedy mission.
