- Child-prodigy violinist, winner of national and international awards, first American to win the top prize at the Tchaikovsky violin competition in Moscow in 1974.
- In July 1989, Fodor was arrested on drug charges at Martha's Vineyard after breaking into a motel room and was found with 24 grams of cocaine and a hypodermic needle with traces of heroin. He was ordered into rehab with random drug testing for the following three years. He was unable to receive universal critical approval because some thought if he used drugs again, it might affect his performances.

- Not related to the Eugene Fodor, who published travel guides.
- A lot of people confuse being a virtuoso with having a demented childhood. I find this ridiculous. When I was a teen-ager I'd practise two hours a day and have my evenings free to go bowling or play pinball. [Washington Post, Nov. 18, 1974]
