One of the hidden gems of the Netflix library over the past few years on TV has been Happy!, the dark comedy series headlined by Christopher Meni. Its time on Netflix is soon ending, with the series departing worldwide, beginning with Netflix in Canada and the United States. Here’s the removal schedule for Happy! seasons 1 and 2.

Airing on Syfy in the United States (the network owned by NBCUniversal), the series followed a corrupt former cop turned hitman named Nick Sax. His life is changed forever by a relentlessly positive, imaginary blue-winged horse named Happy. Taran Killam has dropped out of the upcoming Off Broadway production of the popular comedy Urinetown following the destruction of his home in the Pacific Palisades fires earlier this month.

Killam, a former SNL cast member who recently starred on Broadway in Spamalot, was supposed to have starred in the New York City Center Encores! production of the 2001 musical comedy next month, along with others in the cast including Tiffany Mann, Daniel Quadrino, Geena Quintos, Christopher Fitzgerald and Rainn Wilson, among others.

But late last week City Center announced that Killam would no longer take part in the production, and this his role of Officer Lockstock would be played by actor Greg Hildreth when performances start February 5 (the production runs through February 16).

Earlier this month, People magazine reported that the $5.6 million Palisades home of Killam and wife Cobie Smulders had been lost in the Palisades Fire.

Taran Killam will no longer be appearing the New York City Center’s upcoming Encores! production of Urinetown after he tragically lost his home in the Los Angeles Fires.

The former Saturday Night Live actor was set to lead the production as Officer Lockstock, but the role will now be played by Broadway star Greg Hildreth.

City Center confirmed the casting change in an email sent to ticketholders on Friday (January 17).

Elsbeth's new episode, "Gold, Frankincense, and Murder," follows the story of two celebrity Christmas curators who are also a married couple. After the husband ends up dead, Elsbeth races against time to prove that his wife may be involved in his death.

The Broadway revival of Monty Python’s Spamalot will play its final performance on Sunday, April 7, completing a 24-week run at the St. James Theatre.

The production, which opened to favorable critical notices, failed to attract the strong audience figures that the original 2005 production drew. Last week, the production grossed just $589,970, with attendance at about 59% of the St. James’ capacity.

Sources tell Deadline that cost-cutting measures attempted in recent weeks have made little significant impact on the bottom line.

The revival opened on Thursday, November 16, 2023. A national tour is set to launch in fall of 2025.

Jonathan Bennett, the Mean Girls heartthrob and star of the Hallmark Channel’s Christmas House franchise, will make his Broadway debut when he takes over the role of Spamalot‘s Sir Robin from Michael Urie on January 23.

Urie, as previously announced, is jumping over to co-star (with Sutton Foster) in the New York City Center’s Encores! production of Once Upon a Mattress. Urie, who got raves for his very funny Spamalot turn, will play his final performance in that revival on January 21; Once Upon A Mattress will run from January 24 to February 4.

Bennett’s limited engagement in Spamalot runs January 23 through April 28. He’s yet another high-profile replacement in the show: Beetlejuice‘s Alex Brightman, as previously announced, takes over the role of Sir Lancelot after Taran Killam ends his limited engagement on January 7.

Yorgos Lanthimos’ Venice Golden Lion Winner Poor Things is here with Searchlight Pictures sewing up nine theaters in four major markets for leg one of the Emma Stone-starring surreal-period-comedy-horror.

After Broadway shut down due to the pandemic, “Waitress” received an arts grant from Chuck Schumer’s office that allowed the production to reopen in 2021. Sara Bareilles, who wrote the music and lyrics, said this opportunity inspired her and the team to make the most of their time back on stage by shooting a live recording.

Bleecker Street and Fathom Events will release “Waitress: The Musical” in theaters for a five-day series of nationwide special-event screenings, starting Dec. 7. Bareilles, who also plays the lead role of Jenna Hunterson in the film production, said shooting this live-capture helped bring the audience “closer to the emotionality of the performances.”

If you want a risk-taking Broadway musical that weaponizes disco-glamour to tell a story of crumbling democracy, I hope you already invested in a ticket to the immersion of "Here Lies Love" in its dying breath. If you want a work of artistic and personal self-reflection, see the "Merrily We Roll Along" revival. But if you hunger for Broadway-based belly laughs, you have two musical options: "Gutenberg! The Musical!" or the "Monty Python's Spamalot" revival.

"Lovingly ripped off" from the 1975 "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" as well as other "Monty Python" media, "Spamalot" reigned for 1,575 performances from its 2005 Broadway premiere. Transported from the Kennedy Center run in May 2023, this Broadway revival at the St. James Theatre serves up the oldies with adequate variance to its secondhand Pythonesque humor.

From the moment the Arthurian tale opens with an irrelevant Finland number, anyone who has not seen anything "Monty Python" is in for hijinks.

The 30-year-old singer and Wicked actress wore a black and matching overcoat while arriving at the St. James Theatre on Thursday night (November 16) in New York City.

Ariana was spotted with her blonde Glinda hair along with a red lip and pearl earrings.

Ethan is playing a bunch of roles in the revival of the Tony-winning musical, including Not Dead Fred and Prince Herbert. He was joined on the red carpet by co-stars James Monroe Iglehart, Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer, Taran Killam, Michael Urie, Christopher Fitzgerald, Nik Walker, and Jimmy Smagula.

Merrily We Roll Along, the Sondheim musical revival starring Daniel Radcliffe, Jonathan Groff and Lindsay Mendez, was Broadway’s sole sell-out last week, filling every last seat at the Hudson Theatre with an eye-popping average ticket price of $234.40.

The critically acclaimed revival added a hefty $1,811,423 to Broadway’s overall weekly box office take of $26,546,735. Total weekly attendance for the 28 shows on Broadway was 223,151 for the week ending November 5; both the total gross and attendance figures held fairly steady from the previous week.

Though Merrily was the only show at 100% of capacity, a few others came close. FX released the official trailer for “American Horror Stories” Season 3, the spin-off of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s anthology series “American Horror Story.” The spin-off features a different horror story in each episode.

The trailer revealed that “Real Housewives” alum Lisa Rinna will star in the “Tapeworm” episode of Season 3, which premieres Oct. 26. The official logline for that installment reads, “An up-and-coming model will stop at nothing in her hunger for success.” The episode was written by Joe Baken and directed by Alexis Martin Woodall.

“Smize for the camera, sweetie,” Rinna’s character says in the trailer. She later responds to a young patient’s concern about a monster inside of her with the question, “But are you hungry?”

Alongside Rinna, the “Tapeworm” cast includes Laura Kariuki, Hazel Graye and Rob Yang.

From the trailer, it looks like Yang prescribes Kariuki’s model a tapeworm to help her lose weight for her modeling career.

The one-minute trailer for FX’s special American Horror Stories Huluween event provides a freaky first look at the four-episode event. The trailer’s release was accompanied by additional details on the four episodes – “Bestie,” “Daphne,” “Tapeworm,” and “Organ” – including cast info and brief synopses.

The beloved musical Spamalot is returning to Broadway this season and the first photos of the cast have been released!

James Monroe Iglehart, Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer, Christopher Fitzgerald, and Ethan Slater are leading the cast of the Monty Python musical.

Also starring are Taran Killam, Jimmy Smagula, Michael Urie, and Nik Walker.

The musical, featuring a book and lyrics by Eric Idle, is “lovingly ripped off” from the classic movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. “Everything that makes a great knight in the theatre is here, from flying cows to killer rabbits, British royalty to French taunters, dancing girls, rubbery shrubbery, and of course, the Lady of the Lake,” the synopsis reads.

Performances begin at the St. James Theatre on October 31 ahead of opening night on November 16.

Taran Killam, the former Saturday Night Live player and Hamilton cast member, will play Lancelot in the Broadway revival of Monty Python’s Spamalot, with Alex Brightman taking over the role in January following Killam’s limited engagement.

The casting rounds out the principal roles for the production, which begins previews at the St. James Theatre on Tuesday, Oct. 31, with an official opening on Thursday, November 16. Killam will play Lancelot from the first preview until January 7.

Brightman, who’ll take over the role on January 9, played Lancelot at the Kennedy Center staging earlier this year, but is currently starring in Broadway’s The Shark Is Broken, which closes Nov. 19.

Following its world premiere at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival, Bleecker Street has acquired the U.S. rights to Sara Bareilles and Jessie Nelson’s “Waitress: The Musical,” which is set for a nationwide release on Dec. 7, the studio announced Wednesday.

“Waitress: The Musical” will transform the Tony-nominated production to the big screen for audiences. Bareilles stars as Jenna Hunterson, a waitress and pie maker who finds herself stuck in a small town and loveless marriage. However, when Jenna gets the opportunity to take part in a baking contest outside of her town, she leaps at the chance to change her life.

Alongside Bareilles, “Waitress” stars Eric Anderson, Charity Angél Dawson, Christopher Fitzgerald, Drew Gehling, Caitlin Houlahan, Dakin Matthews and Joe Tippett. Michael Roiff, Barry and Fran Weissler, Bareilles, Nelson, and Paul Morphos serve as producers, with Alecia Parker as an executive producer.

Bleecker Street has acquired the U.S. rights to the filmed capture of Sara Bareilles’ Waitress: The Musical.

The film, which made its world premiere at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival, was captured in 2021, during the musical’s run on Broadway at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. Bareilles, who wrote the score to the musical, alongside a book by Jessie Nelson, also stars in the lead role.

Waitress: The Musical is scheduled to be released Dec. 7, 2023, in partnership with Fathom Events. This is the second partnership between Bleecker Street, the studio behind the upcoming Meg Ryan film, What Happens Later, and Fathom Events, after Guy Nattiv’s Golda, which was released with Fathom on August 23 in advance of its wider theatrical release. Bleecker Street is also behind the upcoming films Jules starring Sir Ben Kingsley and Mafia Mamma starring Toni Collette and Monica Bellucci.

Based on Adrienne Shelly’s 2007 indie feature, Waitress: The Musical stars Bareilles as Jenna Hunterson, a waitress and expert piemaker stuck in a small town and a loveless marriage. Bleecker Street has acquired US rights to Waitress: The Musical following its Tribeca world premiere and will partner with Fathom Events on a December 7 nationwide release.

The content was captured live on stage in 2021 during the musical’s reprise on Broadway and stars composer-lyricist Sara Bareilles in the lead role.

Based on the 2007 film directed by Adrienne Shelly and starring Keri Russell, the musical follows an expert pie baker stuck in a small town and loveless marriage who enters a life-changing baking contest.

Brett Sullivan directed the film and Jessie Nelson is creative advisor.

Ariana Grande’s new beau Ethan Slater is working on a new project.

It was announced on Wednesday that Slater — who stars in the movie adaptation of “Wicked” as Boq alongside Grande’s Glinda — is heading to Broadway for the upcoming Spamalot revival.

Slater is taking on the dual role of The Historian/Prince Herbert.

The show also revealed Christopher Fitzgerald will star as Patsy, James Monroe Iglehart as King Arthur, Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer as the Lady of the Lake, Jimmy Smagula as Sir Bedevere, Michael Urie as Sir Robin and Nik Walker as Sir Galahad.

The role of Sir Lancelot will be revealed at a later date.

Michael Urie and Ethan Slater are among those set to star in the upcoming Broadway revival of Spamalot.

The newly announced cast includes Christopher Fitzgerald as Patsy, James Monroe Iglehart as King Arthur, Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer as The Lady of the Lake, Jimmy Smagula as Sir Bedevere and Nik Walker as Sir Galahad. Urie is set to portray Sir Robin, with Slater cast as The Historian/Prince Herbert.

Iglehart, Kritzer, Smagula, Urie and Walker have all reprised their roles from the show’s May run in D.C. at the Kennedy Center. Casting for Sir Lancelot will be announced at a later date. (Beetlejuice star Alex Brightman portrayed Sir Lancelot before it transferred to Broadway.)

Adapted from the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail, which was written by Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin, the musical will open at the St. James Theatre on Nov.

In hindsight, it’s quite amazing that anyone could watch Adrienne Shelly’s final film as a director and see it as anything but a movie. It was a good one, a simple story about a small-town woman who falls pregnant by her abusive lover and complicates matters by having an affair with her gynecologist. Starring Keri Russell, the film was funny, romantic, frankly feminist and pulled no punches when it needed to, and its modest success of the box office made it all the more tragic that Shelly, murdered in her own apartment by a construction worker in 2006, would never make another.

Taking that and putting it on the Broadway stage was probably not on anyone’s bingo card, yet this production — directed by Diane Paulus with music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles, and book by Jessie Nelson — sails by, even though it adds 40 minutes of running time to Shelly’s slender story.

Veteran actress Patti LuPone tested positive for Covid-19 before Saturday’s Broadway matinee of Company, triggering increased testing protocols for the rest of the performers and staff.

LuPone is at home and is expected to be out until March 8. The 72-year-old, who has two Tony Awards and two Grammys, plays “Joanne” in the production alongside Katrina Lenk’s “Bobbie.”

The musical comedy is about the search for love and cocktails in New York City. This version turns the original iconic bachelor into a bachelorette. The update features some of Stephen Sondheim’s most beloved songs, including “Company,” “You Could Drive a Person Crazy,” “The Ladies Who Lunch,” “Side by Side,” and “Being Alive.”

Joining Lenk and LuPone are Matt Doyle as “Jamie,” and three-time Tony nominee Christopher Fitzgerald as “David,” among others.

Over fifty years after its debut on Broadway in 1970, Stephen Sondheim’s genre-redefining musical “Company” has returned in a reimagined production by Tony Award-winning director Marianne Elliott. The classic musical is a series of vignettes that coalesce around its protagonist Bobby on the occasion of his thirty-fifth birthday, but in this revival the main character is now a female Bobbie. “Company” opened at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on Dec. 9.

Tony winner Katrina Lenk steps into the role of Bobbie, previously played on Broadway by the likes of Dean Jones, Larry Kert, Boyd Gaines, and Raúl Esparza. Her Joanne – the character known for singing the sardonic Sondheim showstopper “The Ladies Who Lunch” – is two-time Tony winner Patti LuPone. If there’s a better, more vital way to honor the late, incomparable Stephen Sondheim than Marianne Elliott’s superb production of Company, Broadway hasn’t invented it. This gorgeous revival of the Sondheim-George Furth masterwork at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, is, from across-the-board excellent performances and thoughtful revisions to the visual delight of a lovely and ingeniously clever set design, a gift both to and from the genius we lost last month.

With its attention-getting gender-switching premise bringing a freshness and nuance that’s nothing short of near-miraculous for a much-revived 51-year-old musical, Elliott’s Company challenges Broadway’s current production of 1955’s Trouble in Mind as the most dizzying time-warp experience on stage this season. Like that Alice Childress play, this Company feels both absolutely of the moment and timeless.

Patti LuPone will miss this weekend’s performances of Broadway’s Company due to a non-Covid-related illness.

Press had been invited to both of Saturday’s performances – matinee and evening – but the production rescheduled the press nights for early next week after LuPone’s return. The actress also missed last night’s and tonight’s performances.

Opening night remains set for Thursday, December 9.

LuPone stars in the revival of the classic Stephen Sondheim/George Furth musical, directed by Marianne Elliott, along with Katrina Lenk, Matt Doyle, Christopher Fitzgerald, Christopher Sieber, Jennifer Simard, Terence Archie, Etai Benson, Bobby Conte, Nikki Renée Daniels, Claybourne Elder, Greg Hildreth, Manu Narayan, and Rashidra Scott.

During last night’s performance, the show was briefly halted when a section of the moving set malfunctioned, prompting the evacuation from the stage of the performers. Tonight’s performance was to proceed as scheduled.
