Exclusive: Apple is to launch a podcast about pop culture icons Siegfried & Roy – marking one of its first major forays into original audio series.
The series has landed at Apple TV+, its television and film division, and will launch on the Apple podcast platform.
It comes at a time where competition is becoming more prevalent in the podcast business with major rival Spotify getting heavily into originals that only live on its platform.
Apple has cautiously dipped its toes into original shows in the past but they have largely been focused around its music platform – The Zane Lowe Podcast Series – or its original television shows such as For All Mankind.
Earlier this month, it unveiled The Line from Alex Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions, which will feature an original podcast series and a TV docuseries. The Siegfried & Roy series marks the first major show to come without an immediate television companion.

The imminent arrival of Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead will unleash an all-new film from the Justice League-restoring director, this one a return to the zombie wheelhouse that skyrocketed his career with 2004’s masterful Dawn of the Dead remake. While the upcoming film was always expected to manifest as a light-hearted madcap actioner—following a tactical team’s attempt to haul a fortune located within a zombie-overrun Las Vegas—the latest trailer spotlights the shocking intelligence of the film’s undead horde; intelligence that seems to include an organized hierarchy and, yes, zombie sex. Siegfried Fischbacher, famous for performing as one half of the magician duo known as Siegfried and Roy, has passed away. According to his sister Dolore, the entertainer "fell asleep softly and peacefully," dying at the age of 81.
"I take my brother with me in every one of my prayers and I am deeply connected to him," Dolore, who lives as a nun in Munich, previously told the German newspaper Bild.
The death of Siegfried Fischbacher comes just days after it was reported that Siegfried was terminally ill with pancreatic cancer. A malignant tumor had been removed during a recent 12-hour operation, but doctors then discovered that it had already spread in his body. Siegfried Fischbacher, who teamed with partner Roy Horn to become Siegfried & Roy, among the most famous magicians in the world and one of Las Vegas’ biggest draws, died Wednesday of pancreatic cancer at his home in Las Vegas. He was 81.
Fischbacher’s death was announced by his sister Dolore, who lives as a nun in Munich, Germany, to the German newspaper Bild. The news subsequently was confirmed by his publicist, Dave Kirvin.
“He fell asleep gently and peacefully,” Dolore told Bild. She said Fischbacher had been in the care of hospice nurses at his home.
Known for their flamboyant, Liberace-style costumes and the use in their act of “big cats” — lions, leopards, jaguars and, most famously, rare white tigers — Siegfried & Roy were partners in life as well as onstage who carved out a 40-year career with elaborate, large-scale illusions. The headlining duo became synonymous with Vegas glitz and over-the-top showbiz glamour.

The life story of magicians and entertainers Siegfried and Roy is coming to the big screen. German multihyphenate Michael Bully Herbig, one of Germany’s biggest stars and most successful directors, is partnering with Ufa Fiction to direct two feature film projects, including a biopic about the German-American entertainers, whose Las Vegas act with big cats made them world-famous.
Herbig most recently directed the 2018 real-life hit drama “Balloon,” about two East German families who tried to escape to West Germany in a hot-air balloon in 1979. The critically acclaimed film earned about $8 million at the German box office for Studiocanal last fall.
Long in development at Ufa originally as a TV production, the big-screen “Siegfried & Roy” will tell the story of Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Uwe Horn, who met on a cruise ship in 1960 and, driven by their common passion for the art of magic and illusion, went on to developed their famous act.

Cameron and Jon Landau are producing. “Alita” is set in the 26th century and tells the story of a female cyborg (Salazar), discovered by a scientist in a scrapyard. I would have bet big money that either Siegfried and/or Roy, the German magician duo famous for their Las Vegas shows, died a few years ago after being attacked by one of their tigers on stage. But I would have lost that bet. Despite that very real tiger attack, they're apparently both still alive, because THR reports that they've both signed on to become executive producers of a new biopic about their remarkable ascension to Vegas magician superstardom.
Siegfried and Roy's high-camp style magic show, involving white lions and tigers, was incredibly successful. But the duo came under attack from animal rights activists who disapproved of their use of live animals in their act.The Las Vegas show ran from 1990 to 2003, when a white tiger called Mantecore attacked Roy during...

No More Siegfried & Roy

Beloved illusionist duo Siegfried & Roy have officially announced their retirement over six years after Roy Horn was savaged onstage in Las Vegas by his pet tiger.
Siegfried Fischbacher made the announcement that the act is no more in a German publication on Tuesday, explaining there will be "no comeback".
The duo ended its run at The Mirage after Horn was left partially paralyzed following the white tiger attack in 2003.
The pair maintained the tiger was trying to drag Horn to safety after he suffered a heart attack during the show.
It is not known what will become of the duo's menagerie of animals, which currently reside at Siegfried & Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage.
