The allegedly toxic environment behind Dan Schneider’s Nickelodeon empire is now being uncovered in a four-part docuseries.
Amid allegations of abuse, Schneider’s legacy as the showrunner of hit series like “All That,” “iCarly,” and “Zoey 101” is being reframed. The ID documentary “Quiet on Set” exposes the dangerous culture behind some of the most iconic children’s shows of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Directed by Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz, “Quiet on Set” seeks to pull back the curtain on a controversial empire, built by creator Dan Schneider, that certainly had an undeniable grip on popular culture.
Per the official synopsis: “Series such as ‘All That’ and ‘The Amanda Show,’ among others, were obsessively consumed by children across the country and defined comedy for a generation. But behind the upbeat onscreen presence on these shows with questionable jokes and over-the-top sketches, ‘Quiet on Set’ reveals an...

If there is something positive about the existence of streaming platforms in recent times, it's the explosion of quality television series that we haven't experienced for several decades. There is something for everyone, even for TV sceptics who are not easily convinced to step out of the cinema or from what they concern as a serious screening content. Almost four years ago, during the Mastercard event at the Venice Film Festival, Brian de Palma confessed that he was hooked to the comedy-drama series “Dead To Me” starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, admitting that he was watching television more than ever before due to a big improvement in quality of productions. Liz Feldman wasn't in the audience, but I was, glad to hear that such a legend and I are sharing the same passion for the show.

Ever wanted to complete a crossword puzzle with Natasha Lyonne, or have dinner with David Cross and Bob Odenkirk? For hundreds to thousands of dollars, you can, thanks to a WGA/SAG-AFTRA eBay fundraiser benefitting the healthcare fund for Hollywood’s crew members.
Numerous names are contributing to the charity auction, which seeks to help Hollywood crew members struggling financially as the writers and actors strikes continue with no end in sight. Natasha Lyonne is offering a 15 minute “existential conversation” with the highest bidder as they work on the Wednesday New York Times crossword, and promises to bring her dog Rootbeer along for the ride. That listing is currently going for $2,100.
For a similar price (as of this writing), the cast of Bob’s Burgers will sing a customized song via a video message, and also present a SAG-AFTRA Strike sign handdrawn by Bob’s Burgers animator Simon Chong...

James Marsden likes playing the jackass.
Especially when that jackass is the entitled version of himself he’s playing in Amazon Freevee’s breakout comedy “Jury Duty.”
The improvised docu-style series follows Ronald Gladden, a real person unaware the increasingly chaotic jury he’s found himself on is completely fake. Everyone around him — including Marsden’s portrayal of himself as the out-of-touch celebrity — is an actor playing their part in the ruse.
The acclaimed series has earned Marsden some of the best reviews of his career, at a moment when it seems like he is everywhere. Because he is.
In the past year, he closed the book on Netflix’s “Dead to Me” with its final season and popped by Starz’s “Party Down” revival for a few episodes playing another spoiled — albeit fictional — movie star.

Christina Applegate was very intentional about who stood at the podium last November when she received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Watching from the crowd with her husband and daughter at her side, Applegate heard remarks from her other family — “Married… With Children” co-stars Katey Sagal and David Faustino, and her “Dead to Me” support system, co-star Linda Cardellini and creator/writer Liz Feldman.
For Applegate, the foursome represents the full breadth of her 40-year career in Hollywood.
“There was no mistake as to who I asked to speak, kind of my beginning and my…,” she hesitates for the moment, editing her thoughts in real time, before she continues, “…my possible end. That was really important to me. It was about where I came from and where I landed.”

Emmys: Netflix Kicks Off Campaign Season with ‘Wednesday’ Stunt, Relocates ‘FYSee Space’ (Exclusive)
Netflix, perennially a key player in the Emmy race, is launching its 2023 Emmy campaigns on Wednesday with a, well, Wednesday-themed stunt.
Indeed, many voters and tastemakers will receive a hump-day visit — and hand-delivery of goodies — from a trio associated with the streamer’s hit comedy series: “Lurch,” the Addams family’s butler, who will be driving a class black 1930s hearse; “Wednesday Addams,” the titular teenager with psychic powers; and “Thing,” the sentient disembodied hand.
Additionally, The Hollywood Reporter has learned, Netflix will — for the fifth year in a row, but for the first year at Red Studios at 846 N. Cahuenga Blvd. in Los Angeles — welcome TV Academy members to an elaborate “FYSee Space” at which it will showcase activations and host star-studded panels and performances in promotion of its numerous Emmy hopefuls. The FYSee Space will be open from Friday, May 5 through Friday, May 26.

In the midst of shooting the final season of the hit Netflix series “Dead to Me,” Christina Applegate fully embraced the unexpected circumstances of her acting journey when she got diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Her obvious connection to the role and the show that explores ways of dealing with life’s endless obstacles allowed the actress to shine brighter than ever. Applegate’s nuanced performance could very possibly (and deservedly) bring the Emmy winner her first SAG Awards victory after six losses.
The “Dead to Me” star’s competitors for Best TV Comedy Actress are SAG Award winners Jean Smart (“Hacks”) and Rachel Brosnahan (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), as well as first-time nominees Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”) and Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”). Applegate is currently ranked third in our combined odds behind Brunson and her “Samantha Who?” co-star, Smart, with 4/1 odds.

Christina Applegate has been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award during all three seasons that the Netflix dark comedy “Dead to Me” was on the air, which includes the recently-completed final campaign. She’s been nominated seven times total by SAG and is still looking for her first win, but her nomination this year carries perhaps greater poignance and urgency given Applegate’s diagnosis of multiple sclerosis in 2021 in the middle of shooting season three of the series. It grew to become an ordeal for the 51-year-old actress given the immense physical limitations placed on her by the disease.
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times published on Tuesday, Applegate discussed the challenges she faced in completing the season on “Dead to Me” and her reliance on the crew and fellow performers to help her push through. “They were incredible,” she said of the crew to the Times,...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Dead To Me series finale.] Dead To Me‘s final season ends on an intentionally ambiguous note. Creator Liz Feldman said the uncertainty the Covid-19 pandemic made us feel informed the plot when writing the Netflix dramedy’s final episodes, explaining that life rarely gives us answers to its greatest questions. It’s part of what makes grief a lifelong experience with all of its ebbs and flows. Grief and ambiguity are at the forefront of the Dead To Me series finale, which sees Jen Harding (Christina Applegate) and Judy Hale’s (Linda Cardellini) story end on a heartbreaking but fitting note. In Dead To Me Season 3, Judy is diagnosed with late-stage cervical cancer. She undergoes chemotherapy throughout the season as she and Jen try to tie up loose ends connecting them to Steve Wood’s (James Marsden) murder. Jen also learns she’s pregnant with Ben Wood’s (also Marsden) baby.

“I think his thoughts and his heart are still pure, even if his self doubt and self loathing kind of shove that down,” explains James Marsden of his character Ben on “Dead to Me.” The Netflix series recently returned for a third and final season. Aside from series creator Liz Feldman, no one could have predicted the end of Netflix‘s Dead To Me — except Linda Cardellini. “I knew last season that Liz was thinking about doing Judy’s storyline. I knew sort of what that was,” Cardellini tells TV Insider of her character Judy Hale’s ultimate fate: a diagnosis of stage four cervical cancer and the subsequent choice to live out the rest of her days on her own terms, following a spontaneous vacation to Mexico with Bff Jen Harding (Christina Applegate). Despite knowing how it all ended, however, Cardellini was still caught off guard at the way the storyline played out. “I knew that whatever she thought of would be surprising and emotional and funny but what I didn’t realize was how it would remind me so much of what grief feels like,” she says. “And that whole thing of when...

When Liz Feldman created Dead to Me, she said she explored main character Jen, played by Christina Applegate, and her grief and sadness though cathartic and empowering rage. She created a “zero-fucks-giving woman” in her justifiably angry widow that, at first, scared some executives (who turned out to be very wrong, given the success of the hit Netflix tragi-comedy).
But when it came to Judy, the friend who enters Jen’s orbit through a grief group and who is played by Linda Cardellini, the other starring role of Dead to Me was a very different exploration.
“Judy was described as free-spirited, which I think is funny for someone who is carrying around as much guilt and shame as she is,” Cardellini tells The Hollywood Reporter while reflecting on the beginning of her Dead to Me ride in a chat about the series finale.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains plot details for the Season 3 finale of Dead to Me.
Dead to Me series creator Liz Feldman wanted to punctuate her Netflix dark comedy series the same way she’d started it, with an emphasis on grief. Much like the grieving process itself, the series finale lacks the closure that audiences might have hoped for, instead leaving them to assess their own endings for the central characters.
After Linda Cardellini‘s Judy is diagnosed with terminal cancer, Jen (Christina Applegate) must prepare for life without the woman who has, through an interesting twist of fate, become her best friend. The two travel to Mexico together for Judy to live out her last days relaxing in a peaceful villa, and they spend their last night together curled in bed watching their favorite TV show. Jen wakes up to find a note from Judy indicating she’s left for good.

Note: The following article discusses the entirety of “Dead to Me” Season 3 and contains spoilers.
In the third and final season of Netflix’s dark comedy “Dead to Me” — amid outrunning the FBI, obscuring past illegal activity and erasing any pesky leftover incriminating footage — Jen (Christina Applegate) and Judy (Linda Cardellini) find themselves navigating unforeseen medical circumstances: The former finds out she’s pregnant with Ben’s (James Marsden) child, while the latter receives a terminal cervical cancer diagnosis. It’s a heartbreaking end, a cruel twist of fate so universal it seems ripped from real life — and it turns out it is.
“The conversations really revolved around ‘How do we heal these women? How do we bring them closure, and how do we help them move through the traumas that brought them together in the first place?’” creator Liz Feldman told TheWrap in an interview.

[This story contains spoilers to the series finale of Dead to Me.]
Dead to Me started with loss, and it ended with loss. The third and final season of Netflix’s dark buddy comedy, starring Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini, saw the partners in literal and figurative crime grow closer than ever as Cardellini’s character navigated a terminal cancer diagnosis.
In that last episode, one in which the pair almost mystifyingly evades the law yet again for past deeds, Jen (Applegate) and Judy (Cardellini) abscond to Mexico for a vacation where harsh realities are ignored and ultimately embraced. Only Jen returns to Orange County, after Judy, on her last legs, steals away one morning for a presumably one-way boat ride toward the horizon.
“I wanted the ending to feel important,” says creator and showrunner Liz Feldman, who spoke with THR earlier in November. “When I was thinking about how to end this show,...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “Dead to Me” Season 3, now streaming on Netflix.
Writer and executive producer Liz Feldman decided how to end “Dead to Me” while filming Season 2 in 2020 — but she still felt a bit of pressure when it actually came time to wrap up such a personal show.
“I felt a little bit nervous about the idea of the story I’ve chosen to tell, even though it’s based in deep reality and Judy is a character who is inspired by multiple people, but mostly a friend of mine who passed away of cancer at 38,” Feldman tells Variety. “I wanted it to be satisfying, but I also wanted it to be a real expression of what it means to go through grief and loss.”
In the final season, Judy (Linda Cardellini) learns that she has cancer. While undergoing chemotherapy, she admits that she wasn’t able to have children.
