The good news is that Kino’s 50th Anniversary Special Edition takes giant leaps in correcting older audio issues . . . but the bad news . . .

The eighth of the nine battles on the March 27 episode of “The Voice” pitted two of Gwen Stefani‘s artists — Jozy Bernadette and Troy Ramey — against each other. For their battle song, Stefani chose “Angel Eyes.” The Jeff Healey Band had a big hit in 1989 with this track off their first album, “See the Light.” We didn’t get to […]...

A blazing Black Crowes redo. An overnight transformation. Rehearsal-room drama. Robyn unplugged. Hmm. Night 3 of The Voice’s Battle Rounds must’ve been pretty decent, especially for what you’ve mentioned is a subpar Season 12, because by the end of it, even Adam Levine’s Gwen Stefani-blond ‘do was starting to grow on me. Let’s review Monday’s performances, shall we, then you can play favorites in the comments.

Movie sequels are big business for Hollywood. Many fans are getting burnt-out on sequels, especially since so many of them are unnecessary. Still, let’s not forget that when they’re done right, sequels can be great. Here are a dozen of the greatest sequels ever made.
12. Star Trek 2: The Wrath Of Khan (1982): Still the best of all the Star Trek films, this excellent sequel corrected everything that went wrong with its disappointing predecessor, Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The action, the humor and the character interactions were all excellent. The comparisons to Moby Dick gave it a literary flavor, and Ricardo Montalban was fantastic as the villain, Khan Noonien Singh. The death of Spock was a surprise to long-time fans, even if it didn’t last. This film made the Trek film franchise fun and set the standard for the future films.

A very different set of “Angel Eyes” are soon going to be peering up at Stephen Barker Liles!
The country musician — known as one half of the duo Love and Theft — and his wife Jenna are expecting their second child, a girl, Liles announced on Instagram.
“So excited to have a new baby !!! @jettbarkerliles is gonna be a great big brother !” Liles captioned a photo collage of himself, his wife and their 3-year-old son Jett Barker in front of a Christmas tree. In one snap, the family is holding balloons — some pink, and one big one that says, “Girl.”

Don’t roll your eyes too hard when The Voice host Carson Daly slips into a state of acute premiere-induced hyperbole (i.e. promising viewers are about to “experience the most shocking blind audition” in show history).
After all, as the erstwhile host of MTV’s Total Request Live, Carson ushered millions of teenagers through the Boyband-Britney Industrial Complex — without a single one’s head exploding like a watermelon at a Gallagher concert (at least not on camera). Now, 15 years later, if he’s slightly overselling “small-town Kentucky fella singing the tar out of a Sia jam,” well, so what?...

Sergio Leone and the Infield Fly Rule. Ever since I came up with the quizzical, whimsical (quizzimsical?) name for my blog way back in 2004, I’ve been asked how I settled on such an odd one. The answer is fairly simple: as originally envisioned, I supposed that I would split blog time between writing about movies and writing about baseball, therefore I wanted something that would effectively, fancifully evoke both worlds. But it wasn’t long before I realized that I was a much better baseball fan than I was a literary observer or analyst of the sport, and soon I stopped writing much about the game at all. Yet the name remained—it had become ingrained, and I liked it, yet I felt new readers might now find it puzzling, and for a while I flirted with the idea of changing it. Thankfully, one of those early readers of...

When a documentarian is making a film about one of the most recognized figures of the past century, he or she has a few approaches to avoid repeating the same biographical points. They can structure the non-fiction film around a unique moment in that person’s life, moving from a centerpiece to fill in the historical dots that made this figure so essential. Another method would be to go for breadth, covering a wide spectrum of aspects of this person’s life to tell the most comprehensive story one can.

We’ve reviewed every summer movie season since 1980 to find out which are the best, and which are the worst. Last week we posted our picks for the worst, and here we post our picks for the best.
2015 and 2016 may just be the most overthetop summer movie seasons yet. It seems like nearly every movie slated for a summer 2015 or 2016 release is heavily anticipated. Because of these impending summers of movie awesomeness, we’ve decided to take a look back at summer movie seasons of years past. The idea of the summer movie season is currently in full swing, but it didn’t catch on immediately. Hollywood had to do its fair share of experimenting to determine what types of films would be most successful. As a result, some summer movie seasons have been better than others. We’ve reviewed them all for you and ranked them from worst to best.

Following on from a string of successful film songs in 2014, international pop and Hindi star Raghav is set to release his next solo single, a slice of pop with a hint of Edm, the infectious dance track ‘Take Me Away’.
The new single, also written by Raghav, follows on from previous solo hits such as ‘Fire’ and ‘Woohoo’, which achieved huge commercial chart success in Canada. Similarly ‘Take Me Away’ has already shown early signs of another breakthrough hit, having been picked up by some of the leading Canadian pop and dance stations this week.
In 2014 Raghav has released film songs such as ‘Keep The Hustle’ (from the Million Dollar Arm soundtrack), ‘Aaya Khwab Ka Mausam’ (Kochadaiiyan) and most recently ‘Mawali Qawwali’ (Lekar Hum Deewana Dil), all of which have been collaborations with Oscar and Grammy award winning composer Ar Rahman. 98 years old. Remarkable. I can't imagine making it to 98. I can't imagine the breadth of life experience you could have in that amount of time. Eli Wallach leaves behind a truly great filmography and a family life that is enviable, having been married to the same woman, Anne Jackson, since 1948. She had a hell of a filmography herself, and they had three children together. I am in awe of anyone who can build a life that solid for that long, never mind someone who works in the film industry, where relationships are, at best, impermanent, and at worst, inconsequential. Wallach will leave an amazing legacy onscreen, but he was part of something larger, a total shift in the way acting was approached, and telling his story is telling the story of that paradigm change. He was part of that first wave of Method actors who made the jump from their...

Conflict drives drama. Unpleasant people create conflict. Thus, cinema is crammed with huge, provocative arseholes/assholes (we went with the latter on the headline, but now we're in the article, we're going more arse than ass). There are obviously too many to list, but we've provided you with a thought-provoking array of multi-faceted bell-endery. Three men standing around, sixty-five shots in two-and-a-half minutes, and one of the most thrilling moments in cinema history. Obviously the hours of story that come before the climax of The Good, The Bad and the Ugly have a lot to do with why we care so much what happens to Blondie (and to Angel Eyes and Tuco), but this new video essay from Max Tohine breaks down the technical side of how Sergio Leone and the film’s editors Eugenio Alabiso and Nino Baragli capitalized fully on the groundwork by delivering the exclamation mark moment that the story needed. It’s a testament to visually delivering what characters are thinking, particularly in a game theory-laden standoff. It’s also educational from a filmmaking perspective and damned interesting from the fan side of things. Source: Reddit...

What's going on, Fiend Club? Hope everyone had a relaxing and safe Memorial Day weekend! How about we get to the show? My watch says, It's Sally Time!
My partner Amy and I have been good fiends with the Burrils for a few years now. During the good old podcast days we spoke to Jimmy and April all of the time! That's how much we loved them and everything Forbidden Pictures fed their eager fans! So it gave us both great pleasure to have them on this week's radio show!
If you don't know who JimmyO and April are - they are only the greatest thing to happen to indie horror in a very long time! The Chainsaw Sally Show rocks my world and Season Two is no exception! Tits! Gore! Debbie Rochon and April action! All that and a wonderful new serial killer, "Angel Eyes", played by Jimmy himself!

With the Academy Awards for the 2011 film year in the rear-view mirror, it’s time to take a look at one of the event’s most consistently fascinating categories: Best Supporting Actor. The most interesting story in the category this year isn’t who got nominated, it’s who didn’t. More specifically, Albert Brooks was completely robbed of a nomination for his performance as film producer turned lethal gangster Bernie Rose in Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive.
As much as I’d like to say I was surprised by this, considering both the quality of performance and Brooks’ slew of nominations from other critical circles, in light of the Academy’s history of overlooking outstanding supporting performances, I simply can’t.
Following is a chronological look at a number of performances richly deserving of a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award nomination.

The Chainsaw Sally Show recently aired the final episode of their eagerly anticipated web series' Season 2. The stars of the production were gracious enough to sit down with Dread Central and talk about the adventures of creating this indie production.
Director and co-star of The Chainsaw Sally Show Season 2, JimmyO Burril, joined us with the three beautiful stars of the show, April Burril, Debbie Rochon and Nicolette LeFaye.
JimmyO (who directs and also stars as uber-villain Angel Eyes) talked about just how it felt to wrap season 2 of the show without knowing if we would ever see Sally again. "Our crew is tiny," JimmyO said. "It's eight people, including us (himself and April). And we took Sally up to the conclusion we wanted. It’s a satisfying ending, but it leaves it open for more. If we go back to Sally, I think I want to take her to a city.

Following in the tradition of great What Culture arguments for films such as Jurassic Park, Star Wars and Jaws, it’s now time for The Good, the Bad and the Ugly to step forward and shoot all contenders down for the prestigious title of greatest film of all time. No other film is as iconic, as epic or as purely cinematic as Sergio Leone’s 1966 spaghetti western, which combines everything that’s remarkable about about the work of the late Italian director into one astonishing piece of filmmaking.
Here’s 50 reasons why The Good, the Bad and the Ugly might just be the greatest film of all time.
1. Clint Eastwood as Blondie (Aka: The Man With No Name/The Good)
Where better to start than Clint Eastwood’s effortlessly cool return as The Man With No Name, or as he is actually named here, Blondie. A man of few words,...

By 1962 his career as an actor was over. A car accident in ’58 had left him with a shattered kneecap and a recurring limp, so Lee Van Cleef decided to call it a day. Hell, he’d been getting tired anyway. The parts were no good and he was sick of playing two-bit snakes in countless big and small screen Westerns. Sure he’d been in some classics – classics like High Noon (1952) and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962) – but he was always too ugly to play the hero.
“In just about every film I ever made I was killed off by John Wayne or Gregory Peck or Gary Cooper,” he recalled without nostalgia.
See his face was frontier mean: narrow eyes, taught skin, mouth curled in a half amused snarl. He was told if he wanted better parts he’d have to get that hawk nose of his fixed. So...

The "American Idol" live show kicked off with a tastefully done little PSA for the relief effort for Japan. If you download any of the songs from tonight's show, the proceeds go to the Red Cross, plus there will be a way to donate during the results show tomorrow night. That's cool.
The judges come out and - hey, Carly Smithson is there! Loved her in Season 7. Steven Tyler is dressed especially gypsy-like, while J.Lo is a jungle cat with a mane of hair.
Seacrest tell us that tonight's theme is Birth Year, which is always fun because A) we get to see photos/video of the Idols are babies and B) it's funny that some of them were born in like 2003. Not really, but it kinda seems that way sometimes.

The Playlist caught word of an interesting interview from Movieplayer with Italian actor, Franco Nero (Django, The Rite). In the interview, the actor reveals he'll be working on a spaghetti western flick with none other than Quentin Tarantino. Further more, the film will also involve Treat Williams and Keith Carradine and will be called, "The Angel, The Bad & The Wise". While it sounds completely plausible (remember, nothing has been announced), that title is just jarringly bad. The Angel? Angel Eyes? Also, don't get to excited, Nero doesn't specify if Tarantino is the one directing. More info as it comes in! Check back soon.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ third season keeps taking us to some pretty unexpected places. I, for one, never imagined that an episode would hinge upon Anakin and Padmé’s party-planning skills. But that’s what “Evil Plans” offered up. Don’t worry, it was a lot cooler than that description would make out. Actually, “Evil Plans” worked for me because of three key factors—it saw the return of Cad Bane, it beautifully realized the “used future” concept of the original film, and it centered around C-3Po and R2-D2, the Laurel & Hardy of that Galaxy Far, Far Away.

Ruth Lorenzo has admitted that she sees something special in X Factor finalist Rebecca Ferguson.
Lorenzo shot to fame on the fifth series of the British TV talent show in 2008 and is probably most memorable as the stunning Spanish girl who shocked the judges with her rendition of Prince’s Purple Rain.
In an exclusive interview with Unreality TV, Ruth shared her thoughts on this year’s contestants and admitted that she is drawn to Rebecca’s ‘Angel Eyes.’
She said:
I love Rebecca Ferguson though, I just think she has these angel eyes.
When asked if the Liverpool mum of two could sell music after the show, Ruth added:
I think she could sell music. You know, pop doesn’t sell. Pop sells in very big scale. Britney Spears sells pop, Lady GaGa sells pop, Katy Perry sells pop. But pop stays on the radio for one week, and...

Next to Luke Skywalker, Indiana Jones, and James Bond, Clint Eastwood's Man with No Name is one of cinema's most iconic heroes. The poncho, the small cigarillo, and an uncanny ability with a piece of cold, hard steel, the Man with No Name is, like most Leone heroes, defined more by action than words. Take, for instance, the opening of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (1966). Over the course of perhaps a half an hour, we're introduced to the three characters via titled freeze-frames. When Tuco (Eli Wallach), the ugly of the trio, is introduced, Leone begins the sequence with the approach of three bounty hunters. His direction of space and time is grueling: we're not sure where people are in relation to one another, time seems to stand still. The sound of a dust-storm and the warping of wood and tin fills the soundtrack (Once Upon a...

Sam Mendes' Road to Perdition failed to live up to box office expectations, but is notable for a few reasons: It was Mendes' sophomore follow-up to the critically-acclaimed breakout hit American Beauty, babyface star Tom Hanks was playing a "bad guy," and it was one of the first comic book adaptations which strayed as far you you can from the capes and superpower realm. The film was not a huge financial success, although the movie is still regarded by some as "a beautiful and criminally underappreciated film." Ever since it's release we;ve been hearing rumbling of a possible sequel. In November 2008, it was reported that Max Allan Collins, the man behind the original series of Road to Perdition comics, has been hired to write two sequels to Perdition, called Road to Purgatory and Road to Paradise, for Jbm Productions (which has produced films as Leprecaun and Angel Eyes...

I never really thought about it before, but there are few really good trilogies out there. Sometimes when you get that second film, you feel it could all be wrapped nicely with one more great movie. Yet how many times have we all greatly anticipated a part three only to be let down and left disgusted? The Matrix, Pirates of the Caribbean, X-Men and several other trilogies all had a great beginning and middle, yet ended up fizzling out in the end. Why is that? Did the directors, producers and writers even have an end game? Or where they making things up as they went along?I started to really look at the many trilogies out there and noticed how most of them had terrible conclusions. I'm talking stories told in three films, not a continuing series that goes on and on showing no signs of ending. Some of the...

Several years ago I saw the film Angel Eyes. Many of you probably don’t remember it and didn’t see it, and I refer to you as “the lucky ones.” The film was very boring, but what made me so upset about it was I saw a TV spot that (at least to me) made it seem like the film was a supernatural thriller.

New York — After the lukewarm reception Nelly received on the albums Sweat and Suit (two albums released on the same day in 2004) and the follow-up Brass Knuckles, the hip-hop Mayor of St. Louis has been back in the studio focusing on sounding better than ever.
"The thing is, I work best with two strikes, two outs," Nelly said recently. "I really think I do. As an artist, you want to wake up every day and feel like you're doing something people don't think you can do. Now I feel like I've been put in that position again, where it's more doubt than expectancy. The doubt is what fuels me, so to speak. I've been real fortunate where I have great people around me.

Great villains are scattered throughout the Westerns, but some of the most memorably savage come from the films of Sergio Leone. While Henry Fonda in Once Upon a Time in the West gets a lot of props for the way he mows down the McBain family (including its youngest and most adorable moppet), it was nothing that Lee Van Cleef hadn't already done in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Angel Eyes seems to be dismissed as something akin to Leone fan fiction, and it's his relation (or lack of) to Van Cleef's Col. Mortimer in A Few Dollars More that people find to be more interesting than his villainy.
But he's a great villain, mostly because he's absent for much for so much of the film. Leone gives him a ruthless introduction (a scene Quentin Tarantino mirrored perfectly with Hans Landa in Inglourious Basterds) and promptly yanks him out of the narrative.

After shifting an impressive 1.3 million copies of 2004 debut Storyteller around the globe, "crossover" artist Raghav is back to set the charts alight with his monster new album Identity. And to show he means business in 2009, the 'Can't Get Enough'- hit singer has drafted the unmistakable swagger of hip-hop legend Redman to lace the bouncy R&B stunner - 'My Kinda Girl'. Identity marks the highly anticipated return of the 27-year-old, who made his introduction to the world on four UK Top Ten smashes and a Top Twenty with So Confused and It Can't Be Right, Can't Get Enough and Let's Work It Out. In 2005 Raghav clinched another Top Ten with the dancehall-themed Angel Eyes.
