In 1964, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr acted for the first time in A Hard Day’s Night. While filming a new movie was an entirely new experience for The Beatles, they all jumped into their roles with excitement. Starr loved movies as kid and loved the experience of filming one. Still, some days on set were a challenge for him. He revealed how feeling terrible while shooting actually helped his performance.
Ringo Starr had a rough day on the set of ‘A Hard Day’s Night’
While The Beatles were happy to make a movie, they found it difficult to wake up for the early call times.
“It was a very early start,” George Harrison said in The Beatles Anthology. “We’d have to arrive and get dressed and have our hair and faces done. While all this was going on they would set up with stand-ins. They...

Iconic bands Journey and Def Leppard are back together again for the summer.
Beginning in July, the two bands will hit the North American roads for a summer stadium tour. They’re scheduled to start in St. Louis on July 6 and end in Denver on September 8.
Joining them will be the Steve Miller Band, Cheap Trick and Heart.
The summer tour will be a reunion of sorts, as this will not be the first the two bands share the stage. In 2006 and 2018, Journey and Def Leppard toured in North America together.
“We are thrilled to be back on the road in 2024 with so many good friends as part of this tour,” Journey said on their website. “No matter which city you come to this will be an amazing night of music!”

Ringo Starr‘s wife, Barbara Bach, was not a huge music fan. She revealed she preferred two iconic soul singers to The Beatles. One of those soul singers put out a fantastic cover of a Fab Four ballad. Her rendition of the song became a pop hit in the United States.
Ringo Starr’s wife admitted she ‘knew very little about The Beatles’
Bach is an actor most known for appearing in the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me. During a 1981 interview with Rolling Stone, Bach discussed her feelings about Ringo. “To me, Ringo is definitely Richie,” she said. “Ringo is the public figure, and Richie is the man I live with. You see, I really knew very little about The Beatles.”
She was no Beatlemaniac. “I didn’t follow them,” she revealed. “My favorite musicians were Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin, but music just wasn’t my thing.

Ringo Starr is known, first and foremost, as a drummer, but he appeared in multiple movies over the course of his career. All of The Beatles picked up some acting experience, but Starr took steps to build a career as an actor. Not all of his movies performed well – even the drummer’s biggest fans should avoid a few of them — but some are worth a watch. Here are four of Starr’s movies worth putting on your to-watch list.

Starr’s first movie is also one of his best. In 1964, The Beatles released A Hard Day’s Night, a musical comedy film in which the band played themselves. The film gave Starr a good deal of screen time — he chaperones Paul McCartney’s grandfather and gets arrested.

Miranda Lambert’s 2021 collaborative album The Marfa Tapes, with Jack Ingram and Jon Randall, was a stripped-down set that helped resituate the Texas-born Lambert in the tradition of Lone Star singer-songwriters like Guy Clark and Robert Earl Keen. It also further cemented the country star’s reputation for stylistic risks — following 2019’s more conventionally fantastic Wildcard, and released in the same year she dropped a tropical house remix of “Tequila Does.”

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame officially announced its 2021 inductees on Wednesday morning, revealing that Carole King, Foo Fighters, the Go-Go’s, Tina Turner, and Todd Rundgren are among this year’s class. The latter two musicians are long overdue — although Turner was inducted as half of Ike & Tina Turner in 1991, she’ll finally be inducted as a solo artist. Despite Rundgren being a hailed producer, engineer, and singer-songwriter in his own right, this marks his first-ever entrance into the Cleveland institution.

From early animation to foreign-language gems via all-time classics, a range of movies to whet budding cinematic appetites
What is a children’s film? Is it a film aimed specifically at younger viewers, tailor-made to cater to their growing needs? Maybe it’s a film about childhood, a coming-of-age story that resonates with a wide range of viewers, young and old alike. Or perhaps it’s simply any film that a child could watch, anything that isn’t restricted by its nature to adult-only audiences.
When I was a kid in the late 60s and early 70s, there were two movie classifications that excluded younger viewers: the AA category, introduced in 1970, for which you had to be at least 14 years old; and X-certificate movies, which were restricted to over-16s or (after 1970) over-18s. Films that fell under these prohibitive categories included everything from the David Essex/Ringo Starr Brit-pop...

A straw poll of the average music fan on what the biggest British albums of all time are is likely to consist of: Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd; (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? by Oasis; probably 21 by Adele; maybe Brothers in Arms by Dire Straits; Queen’s Greatest Hits Vol. 1, perhaps; but most definitely, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band by The Beatles. The latter of these has reached the grand old age of fifty, and so in way of celebration has been remastered and re-released in a sparkly new boxed set, which also includes a plethora of alternative recordings, outtakes and interviews, over four CDs and two DVDs and 100 minutes of extra footage. Imagine the 1995 release of The Beatles era defining anthology series, but focused purely on 1967. The release is also supported by a feature length documentary, directed by long time Beatles fan Alan G. Parker...

The annual Cannes Film Festival played host to the official unveiling of the eagerly awaited trailer of Brillstein Entertainment Partner’s (Academy Award winning film 12 Years A Slave) latest biopic The Black Prince. Media from around the globe descended upon the India Pavilion to catch a glimpse of the award winning movie, directed by Hollywood filmmaker Kavi Raz, as it prepares to take the big screen by storm when it releases worldwide on 21st July 2017.
Journalists and photographers sat in awe as the trailer powerfully encapsulated the enthralling tale of the Last King of Punjab, Maharajah Duleep Singh and the constant battle he faced to regain his identity, faith and essentially the Kingdom taken from his grasp by the British.
The film follows the story of the last Sikh Maharaja — the son of the powerful ruler Ranjit Singh — who was placed on the throne at the age of 5, after the death of his father.

The Black Prince, an historical drama based upon the true story of Maharajah Duleep Singh, the boy who became king of Punjab shortly before it was annexed to the British empire, was awarded the Special Jury Remi Award today at the 50th annual WorldFest International Film Festival in Houston. The event’s Gold Remi was also awarded to the film’s Natalie O’Connor for achievement in Art Direction.
Majarajah Duleep Singh was exiled by the British to a privileged life in England when he was only 15 years old, and was shortly thereafter converted to Christianity. Reuniting with his long-lost mother after more than a decade, Duleep begins a daring journey of self-discovery in order to reclaim his faith and the kingdom that is rightfully his. His struggle inspired Sikhs to continue their fight for freedom until India regained its independence from British Imperialism in 1947, and the Sikh kingdom was divided into India and Pakistan.

I’ve been a huge fan of Jeff Wayne’s Musical Version of the War of the Worlds ever since one of my junior school teachers decided to play it to us over four lessons way back in 1978, encouraging us to discuss it among the class and to create our own words and pictures as a result. I’d never heard anything quite like it, and frankly, there’s never really been anything quite like it since, in terms of a completely immersive musical experience that was groundbreaking at the time and still sounds as fresh and vital today as it did 38 years ago.
When Wayne finally achieved his dream of bringing his magnum opus to life on the stage in 2006, I was there at the inaugural performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall to witness him conducting a live band and orchestra along with a breathtaking visual show that featured video walls,...

46 years ago today, “Sesame Street” aired its first episode. Back then, in 1969, Oscar the Grouch was orange, Big Bird was the village idiot, and Elmo and Abby Cadabby weren’t even a glimmer in anyone’s eye. Soon Jim Henson introduced us to the green monster living in a trash can we all know, Big Bird’s character was reworked to be a curious, 6-year-old child, and more new Muppets came to populate that street where the air is sweet. The educational program has aired in over 120 countries and remains a staple in childhoods all around the world. Jokers, circus masters and demonic dolls. Which TV characters terrify you? Den Of Geek asked its writers that very question…
The subconscious is a terrible place; dark, mysterious and peopled by spectres from the past. As a bit of a laugh then, we sent our writers journeying into theirs and asked them to drag out any TV terrors they found lurking in the shadows.
Some television fears had been ensconced there since childhood, others were more recent tenants. Some were morally terrifying; human beings with icy hearts capable of atrocities, others were simply… atrocities.

Shabana Azmi, our first truly international star who has worked with the likes of Shirley MacLaine in Madame Sousatzka and Patrick Swayze in The City Of Joy is now all set to star in the most controversial international project of her career. Shabana stars in The Black Prince, the biopic on the life of Maharaja Duleep Singh who during the British Raj was wrenched away from his mother at age of 15 and forcibly brought to Britain where he was converted to Christianity and groomed like a Britisher. For many decades now, Sikh historians have regarded Duleep Singh's story to be emblematic of Colonial arrogance and intolerance. The film is now being directed by the Us-based Indian actor-director Kavi Raz in Northamptonshire in England. About her role Shabana says, "Maharani Jinda is the driving-force behind Duleep to return to Punjab and take back his land. He was taken away to England...

★★☆☆☆Looking to marry the football hooligan punch 'em up with Daily Mail-baiting hoodie horror, Gabe Turner's The Guvnors (2014) does at least prove that there's still some vague spark of life in these two staples of low-budget British filmmaking. Whilst it often finds itself - knowingly or unknowingly - conforming to type, there are several commendable flourishes that raise Turner's barrel of cockney monkeys above the Rise of the Foot Soldiers and White Collar Hooligans of this world. If nothing else, it also provides the conclusive answer to that eternal question - who would win in a fight between old school crooner David Essex and Harley Sylvester, one half of Brighton hip hop duo Rizzle Kicks. 'Ave a bang on that.

Up until now, filmmaker Gabe Turner had only made two feature films – both of which were documentaries. His previous endeavour, which he directed alongside his brother Benjamin, was The Class of ’92, an engaging, entertaining and spirited effort, that offered a profound study of British society. His latest feature, The Guvnors, attempts much of the same thing, yet sadly falls short. Unfortunately the only connection this has to The Class of ’92, is that the aforementioned year is around the same time films of this ilk felt relevant and unique.
Doug Allen plays Mitch, a former football hooligan and ‘Guvnor’, now seeking a more peaceful existence with his wife and young son. However he soon finds himself dragged back into his former way of life, when the opportunist gangster Adam (Harley Sylvester) intends on defeating the old guard, and ensuring he’s the most feared criminal in the area. Les Dennis isn't exactly in our day-to-day thoughts, truth be told, but the news yesterday (January 23) that the light entertainment legend would be joining Coronation Street still managed to put a massive smile on our face. Les on the cobbles! Amazing!
To celebrate Les's biggest gig in quite some time, we look back at the celebrity good egg's life and career in order, and come up with eight reasons why we absolutely love him...
He's a talent show king!
Way back before Britain's Got Talent, The X Factor et al, there was New Faces, a notoriously tough competition where a panel of judges - including a youthful Noel Edmonds - marked variety acts on their "star quality", usually without chucking water over each other or trying to get into the papers with a particularly daring dress, as all that palaver is a modern talent show invention.

We get the chance to interview famous people every now and them. We ask them their favourite Statham movie. Here's what happens...
Jason Statham. Since the dawn of Den Of Geek, he has been our muse. Our mayor. Our driving force. So much so, that we ask lots of people that we meet just what their favourite Statham movie is (including the man himself). Here, we've gathered together lots of the responses we've had in one document.
And so here it is:
Jason Segel: "I guess it would have to be… oh man, there are so many. I’m going to go with The Transporter!"
Seth Rogen: "Crank. And then Crank 2."
Evan Goldberg: "It was him in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, right? That’s the best one."
Alice Lowe: "I've never seen any of his films..... Oh I did!

Ulrika Jonsson has taken a swipe at Dancing on Ice contestant Matt Lapinskas, calling him 'nauseatingly cocky'.
Writing in The Sun, the 45-year-old - who was voted off in week three when she took part in the 2007 series of the programme - blasted the skating show for its "predictable outcome of a former dancer always being crowned champion".
She continued: ''This year is no different. From day one, we've all known the winner is going to be former dancer Matt Limp-biscuit - a chunky monkey, one-dimensional actor best known for having played David Essex's son in EastEnders.
''His desperation to win gives off a hideous stench, as does his nauseating cockiness and endless pleading for sympathy.''
Lapinskas, who was dumped by girlfriend Shona McGarty last week, responded to Jonsson via his Twitter account.
Tweeting a link to her comments, he wrote: "Please don't judge or comment on people...

Seems like we always say goodbye to someone big on Thanksgiving weekend. Larry Hagman was more a TV figure, and a major one at that, but he had quite a few big-screen credits to brag about including key roles in Fail Safe (1964), Mother, Jugs, And Speed (1976) , and the David Essex cult music drama Stardust (1974). His only directing credit was the 1972 horror film Beware! The Blob which was released on video with the tag line “The film Jr shot!”.. Hagman was the son of actress Mary Martin and was married to the same woman, Maj Axellson, for 58 years. Hagman was 81.
From The Hollywood Reporter:
Larry Hagman, who played the evil oilman J.R. Ewing for 14 seasons on the hit primetime soap Dallas, has died, sources close to the actor told The Dallas Morning News. He was 81. Hagman, who starred with Barbara Eden on another TV hit, the 1960s comedy I Dream of Jeannie,...

No one would have believed in the last months of 2011 that one of the most inspired and successful concept albums of all time, itself based on one of the most popular and beloved science fiction stories of all time, was about to be given an upgrade of planet sized proportions; but that's exactly what transpired when composer Jeff Wayne called a press conference on 18th November to announce the coming of The War Of The Worlds: The New Generation.
Thirty-three years after the original double album was released, a critical and commercial success that featured an eclectic cast including Moody Blues front man Justin Hayward, chirpy Cockney David Essex, Thin Lizzy rocker Phil Lynott and legendary movie star Richard Burton, Wayne surprised fans by revealing that he would be releasing a reinterpretation of his masterpiece in June 2012, to be followed several months later by an international concert tour in the winter (subject,...

Nope, he's not playing Leontes or Polixenes, or covering David Essex songs with his band. The Winter's Tale that Russell Crowe may be involved in is based on the magic realist novel by Mark Helprin, and marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Akiva Goldsman.Set in a fairytale, fantastical, turn-of-the-century New York, the book involves a love story between orphaned Irish burglar Peter Lake and the dying Beverly Penn, inhabitant of an upper-West-Side mansion he targets. Which goes little way to describing a novel that involves vision quests, New York street gangs, guardian angel flying white horses and messianic self-sacrifice. Lake also disappears for a number of years, hence the Shakespeare-riffing title. Nobody gets pursued by a bear though.Rather than Lake, THR's story says that Crowe is "loosely attached" to play "the villain" in the film. Nothing is quite that clear-cut in the novel, but we're guessing the antagonist...

In a new interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post, Essex confirmed: "They want me back. I must admit I even shed a tear or two when I watched myself leave Albert Square. It was such a strong, emotional way to go, plus I made a lot of friends on the set and I will miss it." Asked whether viewers could see Eddie back, he...
