Chucky season 3 had to be split in half due to the writers and actors strikes, with the first four episodes (read our review Here) airing on Syfy and USA Network (as well as the Peacock streaming service) back in October. Production resumed at the end of November, and the second half of the season will begin airing on April 10th – so now that we’re closing in on the end of season 3, series creator Don Mancini is, of course, fielding questions about the possibility of a fourth season. During an interview with The Direct, Mancini confirmed that season 4 has already been pitched!
When the subject of season 4 came up, Mancini said, “There’s very little I can say about that. I can’t tell you my idea for Season 4, but I’m really excited about it. I already pitched it to the network. So fingers crossed because it’s something I really like to do.

Don Mancini, who has written every film in the Child’s Play / Chucky franchise (except the remake) and directed a few of them, developed the TV series Chucky with producer David Kirschner – and he has made it clear that he enjoys casting actors in multiple roles. For example, Devon Sawa has already played four different characters over the course of the TV show’s three seasons. Now Entertainment Weekly has learned that legendary filmmaker John Waters is the latest person to play two different roles in this franchise. Having previously played Pete Peters, a tabloid photographer who got dissolved by acid in 2004’s Seed of Chucky, Waters has now been added to the cast of Chucky season 3, where he’ll be playing Wendell Wilkins, “the reclusive creator of the Good Guy dolls, who gets drawn into the psychopathic Chucky’s tangled web”.

Chucky the killer doll has come back a whole lot of times since we first saw him in the 1988 classic Child’s Play. He has starred in several big screen sequels, a couple direct-to-video sequels, and now he’s three seasons deep into a TV series that runs on both Syfy and USA Network (as well as the Peacock streaming service). As he has made his way through the decades, many of his co-stars have also returned to share the screen with him again and again. But among those who haven’t returned is Chris Sarandon, who played Detective Mike Norris in the original film. During an interview conducted by People to mark the thirty-fifth anniversary of the original Child’s Play, Sarandon revealed that he would be willing to come back for another Chucky project… even though he turned down the chance to appear in Child’s Play 2.

Don Mancini's Child's Play and its renowned main character Chucky, voiced by Brad Dourif, became an international horror sensation. How do I know? Because growing up in ‘90s Poland, I knew all too well about the evil doll. Chucky gave me a few nightmares, but it also turned me into a hardcode horror enthusiast. With the SyFy series Chucky , the creators extend the film universe and reintroduce the possessed doll to a broader and younger audience. This naughty, deliciously vicious series never gets old, even after several runs. This time, season 3 transports us to the White House and has to offer even more outrageous moments, great script, and continually astounding performances.
Following the events in Hackensack involving Chucky, Tiffany, and a pile of dead bodies, Jake (Zackary Arthur), Lexy (Alyvia Alyn Lind), and Devon (Bjorgvin Arnarson) find themselves orphaned. As befits Gen Z, the infamous trio immerses themselves in technology,...

Child’s Play creator Don Mancini and franchise alumni Brad Dourif, Jennifer Tilly, Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent, Christine Elise, Billy Boyd, John Waters, Tony Gardner, David Kirschner, and more spill their guts along with such notable fans as Marlon Wayans, Abigail Breslin, Lin Shaye, and Dan Povenmire, among others.
Here are 9 things I learned from Living with Chucky.
1. Gremlins helped pave the way for Child’s Play.
A lifelong horror fan, Don Mancini wrote the first Child’s Play script — originally titled Batteries Not Included, then Blood Buddy — while attending UCLA. “I realized that no one had ever done the living doll thing as a full-fledged feature where you treat the doll as a character who can actually emote...

Plot: Kyra Gardner, the daughter of special effects artist and puppeteer Tony Gardner, takes a journey through the Child’s Play franchise.
Review: Friday the 13th has Crystal Lake Memories (both the book and the movie). The Nightmare on Elm Street series has the documentary Never Sleep Again. But a lot of the big horror franchises are still waiting to receive their definitive documentaries. Last year, I read the book Reign of Chucky, a film-by-film examination of the Child’s Play / Chucky franchise that was packed with interesting information about the making of the movies. But since it was assembled during the production of season 2 of the Chucky TV series, it was missing one major element: authors Dustin McNeill and Travis Mullins weren’t able to land interviews with some of the most prominent players in the franchise, like Don Mancini, who has written every entry in the series, or actors Brad Dourif,...

Filmmaker Kyra Elise Gardner’s examination of the Child’s Play franchise comes from a personal place in Living with Chucky, debuting on Screambox and Digital on April 4, 2023.
Kyra Elise Gardner is the daughter of Tony Gardner, one of the most prominent and integral special effects artists in the “Chucky” franchise. For the Gardners, Chucky is family.
And the Chucky films, well, they’re often about family as well.
The filmmaker’s familial relationship with the killer Good Guy doll, voiced by Brad Dourif, fittingly coincided with the horror icon unexpectedly finding himself a family in Bride of Chucky. Bride, penned by Don Mancini and directed by Ronny Yu, gave series protagonist Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) a much-needed rest and instead introduced franchise mainstay Tiffany Valentine (Jennifer Tilly), opening up new layers to Chucky in the process.

We may need to get Bob Iger a cape because he might have singlehandedly saved the Marvel Cinematic Universe. How? It’s come to light that Iger kept Marvel Chair Isaac Perlmutter from firing Kevin Feige in 2015. What would the MCU look like without Feige to devise its roadmap to success and make the calls that transformed the initiative into an ongoing billion-dollar moneymaker? Why is this coming up in conversation? Let’s dive into the details.

Disney CEO Bob Iger on Thursday called Marvel chairman Isaac Perlmutter’s backing of activist investor Nelson Peltz “a curious dynamic.”
Peltz, of Trian Group, this morning abandoned his battle with Disney that featured a push for a seat on the board. He said a wide-ranging corporate restructuring announced Wednesday spoke to many of his concerns about the company’s management and strategy. Peltz’s campaign didn’t go public until mid-last year, but it started back in 2022 under former CEO Bob Chapek and with Perlmutter’s support, Disney has said.
In an SEC filing in January as part of its proxy fight with Peltz, Disney lists meetings and calls starting in the summer of 2022 involving Peltz and Chapek, CFO Christine McCarthy, directors Amy Chang and Safra Catz, General Counsel Horatio Gutierrez, as well as Iger. Walt Disney Co CEO Bob Iger impressed Wall Street on Wednesday by driving a hard bargain with the company’s creatives: You get your autonomy and authority back, he seemed to say, but you also must be accountable. Just what that accountability looks like was spelled out on the company’s first-quarter earnings call, with 7,000 layoffs and 5.5 billion in slashed spending, cuts that won’t make the jobs of filmmakers, showrunners and theme-park ride designers any easier.
Wall Street applauded Iger’s encore performance. The stock, which was already on an upward run this year with Iger back in the CEO chair, shot up 5 after-hours to 117.82. Investors always love to hear about profit-boosting cuts, of course, and CFO Christine McCarthy added another sweetener with the promised return of a “modest” dividend, which shareholders haven’t seen since 2019.

Disney’s first earnings call with Bob Iger back at the helm was as much of a blockbuster as we expected it could be. With a proxy fight looming and the dismantling of the former CEO’s legacy, it’s almost as if the company thought to throw us a bone by announcing sequels to some beloved animated franchises and extra money coming back into investors’ pockets in the form of dividends. And you would think that with 7,000 people being let go up in Burbank that at least one analyst might have a question for Iger about it.
Incredibly, all that still leaves a lot of questions unanswered and threads dangling. Hopefully we get some things cleared up before next quarter comes around.

“We’re going to continue to go after subs but [we’ll] be more judicious about that.”
February 9 Update: Bob Iger has wasted little time making his mark less than three months into his latest stint as Disney CEO, announcing the company will operate under three core segments – Disney Entertainment, ESPN, and Disney Parks, Experiences and Products.

Disney is targeting a multi-billion figure for content savings over the next few years, excluding sports, CEO Bob Iger announced Wednesday.
This will be an annualized savings target of 3 billion of future spending, CFO Christine McCarthy clarified. Disney still expects its content spending to remain “in the low 30 billion range” for fiscal 2023.
As for how Disney will achieve these savings, Iger outlined a strategy of “better curation” for its general entertainment content, both in terms of costs and the volume of content.
“We are going to take a really hard look at the cost for everything that we make, both across television and film.
Because things in a very competitive world have just simply gotten more expensive, and that’s something that is already underway here. In addition, we’re going to look at the volume of what we make. And with that in mind, we’re going to be...

With CEO Bob Iger back at the helm, the new organizational structure of The Walt Disney Co. is taking shape, with 7,000 layoffs planned.
On Wednesday, the executive outlined his plan to swiftly restructure the company, effectively dismantling the Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution group created by former CEO Bob Chapek in 2020.
The new structure will have three divisions: Disney Entertainment, which will include the film and TV assets, as well as Disney+; ESPN, which will include ESPN and ESPN+; and Parks, Experiences and Products, which will include the theme parks and consumer products teams.
Alan Bergman and Dana Walden will co-chair the Disney Entertainment division, with Jimmy Pitaro continuing to lead ESPN, and Josh D’Amaro continuing to lead parks and experiences.
On Disney’s earnings call, Iger likened the changes he will pursue as akin to the ones he made in 2005 when he first became CEO, and in 2016, when Disney announced a shift to streaming,...

Walt Disney is targeting 5.5 billion in cost savings, including 3 billion in non-sports related content, CEO Bob Iger said today on a meaty call after earnings where he detailed a company-wide restructuring.
He said the other 2.5 billion are general operating costs, of which 1 billion is already underway. The rest in incremental and will fully materialize by the end of fiscal 2024.
Disney is the latest conglom to wield the axe on content from giant Warner Bros. Discovery one down as challenges mount for streaming, advertising and stock prices. Rampant spending on new content for streaming has not been matched by the sector’s financial results or path to profits. That said, Disney’s Dtc losses narrowed last quarter.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has promised investors 3.5 billion in cost cuts.
CFO Christine McCarthy speaking later on the call said the non-content Sg&a costs are 50 marketing, 30 labor and 20 technology, procurement and other expenses.

The Walt Disney Company will be laying off thousands of employees as a part of a new round of cost cutting measures, CEO Bob Iger revealed today.
Speaking on the House of Mouse’s Q1 earning call this afternoon with CFO Christine McCarthy, Iger said that 7,000 jobs would be let go from the now 100-year-old company. “I have enormous respect and appreciate for the dedication of our employees worldwide,” Iger said. “While this is necessary to address the challenges we face today, I do not make this decision lightly.”
Larger than anticipated, the layoffs will be across almost all of Disney’s empire.
However, with domestic employees hit the hardest, the cuts will be fairly light in the company’s thriving Parks and Resort division. No stranger to job losses over the past three years in various contexts, Disney has about 220,000 employees globally — which would see today’s cuts effect just over 3 of the company.
