The auteur-driven genre production label is focused on horror, thriller and sci-fi projects and was co-founded by award-winning producer and director Ben Charles Edwards (“The Wheels of Heaven”) alongside Phil McKenzie (“Quant”) and Kirsty Bell (“A Bird Flew In”).
The first film to be launched for sales in the series, “I’ll Play Mother,” recently finished post-production and stars Susanne Wuest (“Goodnight Mummy”), Jo Martin and Shubham Saraf (“A Suitable Boy”). Expect more rings in The Rings of Power Season 2! J.R.R. Tolkien’s ring poem is the basis of the Prime Video series. As hinted by the name, the show will feature the creation of said rings, the first of which were forged in the Season 1 finale. Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Elrond (Robert Aramayo), and Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) oversaw the creation of the three elven rings. At a Sunday, May 7 Rings of Power FYC event in Los Angeles, Clark confirmed that Galadriel will wear one of the magic bands in The Rings of Power Season 2 and that more rings of power will be forged in the new episodes. The Rings of Power Season 2 is currently in production in the U.K. Cast and creators took a break from filming for the event hosted by Prime Video. Joining Clark on the panel were Ismael Cruz Córdova (Arondir), Benjamin Walker (High King Gil-galad), Sophia Nomvete...

"One Ring to rule them all ..."
Fans aren't likely to forget the haunting words narrated by Cate Blanchett's elf queen Galadriel which open 2001's "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," adapted from author J.R.R. Tolkien's original text. In short order, director Peter Jackson had summed up much of the backstory that newcomers would need to hit the ground running and understand the plight of Middle-earth under the threat of the Dark Lord Sauron's return. But as much as the trilogy relied upon the fate of the One Ring, it mostly left all those other Rings of Power strictly on the sidelines.
That's where Prime Video's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" series came in, filling in the gaps from thousands of years earlier in the canon to tell the sprawling tale of how the heroes of Middle-earth dealt with Sauron the last time he appeared.

Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) won the best actress prize at the London Evening Standard Theatre Awards for her West End debut performance playing a criminal barrister specialising in defending rapists — who is then sexually assaulted herself.
Comer won critical and public acclaim for the solo role in Prima Facie, which is written by Suzie Miller and directed by Justin Martin. James Bierman’s Empire Street Productions will launch the courtroom drama at Broadway’s Golden Theatre from April 11, 2023.
Stephen Graham (The Irishman), like Comer a Liverpudlian, presented Comer with the Natasha Richardson Award for Best Actress, named in honor of the star who died in 2009.
Comer told guests, who included Richardson’s mother Dame Vanessa Redgrave and sister Joely Richardson, that her experience in Prima Facie had been “utterly terrifying, having never trained,” added: “I didn’t know if I could execute this.”

Amazon took viewers across the far reaches of Middle Earth in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” With season one concluded, viewers now must endure a long wait until the next chapter arrives. To help ease the burden, let’s revisit the five best moments from the first season of the hit series.
The Sauron reveal
The most impressive part of this reveal is that I, along with many fans, correctly guessed Sauron’s secret identity several episodes before it was unveiled, yet the moment still floored me. We can thank an incredible performance from Charlie Vickers and a well written vision sequence for giving this moment the weight and payoff it deserved. Vickers slowly layers in more charm and swagger into his performance of Halbrand until Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) catches wise of his act. Then he plunges the elf into a trippy, shifting vision in which...

Warning: spoilers for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" season 1 lie ahead.
In discussing the season 1 finale and their season 2 plans, "The Rings of Power" showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have name-dropped Walter White and Tony Soprano and drawn comparisons to everything from "The Dark Knight" to "Paradise Lost" and "Romeo and Juliet." Their ambitions for the Prime Video series, shared in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, are clearly lofty, but some viewers may still be reeling from the revelation of Sauron's identity in the finale and how it reconfigures what they knew about a certain Halbrand (Charlie Vickers).
Though production is already underway on "The Rings of Power" season 2, we may not see it until 2024. In the meantime, fans are left to go back and revisit season 1 along with other Middle-earth lore like the "Lord of the Rings" and "Hobbit" movie trilogies and,...

This article contains spoilers for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" season 1.
Tearful goodbyes and too many endings: we've come to expect those from "The Lord of the Rings," and the season 1 finale of "The Rings of Power" didn't disappoint in that regard. Like "Andor," "The Rings of Power" is a prequel to a prequel, and the challenge any such narrative faces is: how do you engage viewers with a story when they already know how it will ultimately end? "The Hobbit" movie trilogy began with "An Unexpected Journey," but maybe all it and "The Rings of Power" could ever hope to be was a journey to an expected destination, with some unexpected developments along the way.
"Better Call Saul" skirted this issue slightly by being both a prequel and a black-and-white sequel at the same time. "The Rings of Power" has done it by finding ample...

Warning: spoilers for the season finale of "The Rings of Power" will follow!
As of its season finale, "The Rings of Power" finally gave up its secrets and provided some long-awaited answers to viewers who had been waiting all season long to discover who Sauron had been the entire time. The revelation that Halbrand (Charlie Vickers), the self-styled king of the Southlands, was actually the Dark Lord in disguise all along perhaps wasn't terribly shocking, but that doesn't mean the trail of breadcrumbs leading up to this reveal were any less intriguing.
In fact, even though the opening minutes of the finale seemed to point towards the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) as Sauron in disguise, some notable details and telltale remarks indicated that not all was as it seemed with Halbrand. If it felt a little too convenient that Halbrand managed to find himself in prime position to help the overeager...

The first season of “The Rings of Power” has officially come to a close with an “unexpected” finale as the “Lord of the Rings” prequel series explores the lives and events that took place thousands of years before J. R. R. Tolkien’s trilogy of books (and subsequent films). And along the way, audiences learned how Mordor was created, that the elves were in danger of dying, and there were plenty of signs that evil was, in fact, reemerging.
As showrunner Patrick McKay previously teased to Et, “Some mysteries may be answered, so answers may provoke new mysteries.” And that’s exactly what the final episode of the season does, making good on those “several big booms” he promised were coming later in the season.
Not only that, but Morfydd Clark (Galadriel), Charlie Vickers (Halbrand) and Benjamin Walker (High King Gil-galad) react to the revelations offered in episode eight, including...

That Sauron Reveal on ‘The Rings of Power’ Finale Explained by [Spoiler], Plus a Preview of Season 2
Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t watched the Season 1 finale of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” now streaming on Prime Video.
After much speculation and enough fan theories to fill a dwarven mine, “Rings of Power” fans finally got their answer on Sauron’s true identity in the prequel series — and it’s Halbrand (Charlie Vickers). The episode starts, however, with a fake-out from the three mysterious, white-cloaked witches claiming that the Stranger (Daniel Weyman) is actually Sauron. Later in the episode, it’s revealed that he’s not Sauron, but actually a powerful wizard known as an Istari, like Gandalf and Saruman from “The Lord of the Rings.”
Vickers and Weyman both spoke with Variety about the major reveals with Halbrand and the Stranger, now that they can finally spill on their true identities.
But first, a recap of the seismic events...

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has gifted viewers with epic battles, surprising origin stories, and the cataclysmic eruption of Mount Doom over the course of season one. Episode seven, “The Eye” moved the plot along, but several tantalizing threads are still left dangling. Here are the questions I’m desperately hoping the Amazon series answers in the upcoming season finale.
What really happened to Celeborn?
Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) dropped a huge bombshell when she confessed that her husband Celeborn died. Well, she specifically stated that he left for the war and never returned. It’s a surprising confession considering that Celeborn is very much alive in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy and rules the elven kingdom of Lothlorien with Galadriel. It’s safe to assume that Celeborn will show up eventually, but where is he now?
It’s possible the series is taking aspects of...

Spoilers ahead for "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" episode 7, as well as future plot spoilers from "The Lord of the Rings."
We all knew it was coming. The Southlands are right on the spot where Mordor sits in Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Even if you're not steeped in the lore that author J.R.R. Tolkien created, you probably felt it early on. Finding out that the Sauron symbol Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) was hunting for was a map of the Southlands cemented it long before the penultimate episode of the season.
In episode 7, "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" put a very fine point on what's coming, from changing the name on the map from "Southlands" to "Mordor" to showing us the Balrog at the bottom of the mithril mine in Khazad-dûm that will someday battle Gandalf (Ian McKellen). In fact,...

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power finale trailer was debuted at New York Comic-Con 2022 on October 7, and the cast stopped by TV Insider and TV Guide Magazine’s Nycc suite to dish on the revealing trailer and the season at large. In the video interview, above, Charles Edwards (Celebrimbor), Sara Zwangobani (Marigold “Goldie” Brandyfoot), Nazanin Boniadi (Bronwyn), and Leon Wadham (Kemen) tell Andrea Towers what it’s like to finally be able to talk about show details, the delight of seeing fan reactions, theories, and cosplays, and what to expect from The Rings of Power finale next week. To no one’s surprise, the details they could share about the finale are few. In fact, there’s barely any footage from the finale in the trailer itself — it’s mostly made up of epic moments from Episodes 1-7. But what Prime Video did share is rather exciting for book fans.

“The Rings of Power” is planning to close out season 1 of the “Lord of the Rings” prequel series in epic fashion. Ahead of next Friday’s conclusion, Prime Video debuted an epic trailer, promising that “all will be revealed” in the finale. Not only that, but the episode will also feature a new song by Fiona Apple.
As executive producer Lindsey Weber teased to Et, season 1 “really never takes its foot off the gas [as] every episode just keeps hitting,” while showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay said that “we’re lighting a fuse and that fuse is burning down and hopefully there’s not just one, but several big booms coming later in the season for you.”
And based on the trailer for next week, there are still some major “big booms” yet to come. Fans of the series will want to watch the new footage again and again, as...

"The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" debuted a trailer for the season finale at New York City Comic Con today, and it teases the moment we've all been waiting for: namely, everyone seems to be saying the S-word. While the two-and-a-half-minute trailer is honestly mostly comprised of footage we've seen before throughout the season — it's more like a sizzle reel than a genuine preview — it does include a few new snippets of footage of what's to come during next week's finale.
What will become of Middle-earth after the creation of Mordor? Are our heroes safe, or will some of them not make it out of this season alive? Most importantly, will the finale make time for scenes of Durin (Owain Arthur) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo) just being bros? Check out the trailer below for some blink-and-you'll-miss-them insights into the season's final episode.

Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power blasted off its PR tour at San Diego Comic-Con and it’s winding it down at New York Comic-Con with the streamer dropping a season one finale trailer, that episode dropping on Friday, Oct. 14 at 12 am Edt. A majority of the trailer has footage from the first seven episodes.
Coming away from an episode 7, “The Eye”, which finds the Queen-Regent Míriel blinded, and the Southlands getting erased off the map and renamed Mordor as the orcs settle into their new homeland. Also in Ep. 7, King Durin III steps in between the bromance of Elrond and Durin, given his distrust of elves, declaring that elves won’t be helping the dwarves out with any resources. Evil doesn’t sleep, it waits… until the season finale. Sauron’s long-awaited arrival is teased in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power finale trailer, debuted during New York Comic-Con 2022. The nearly three-minute trailer is mostly packed with clips from adventures already seen this season, like The Stranger’s (Daniel Weyman) crash landing into Middle-earth, Arondir’s (Ismael Cruz Córdova) battle with the Orcs, and the armageddon-level destruction of the Southlands following the eruption of Mount Doom. Prime Video shares little new footage from the finale, but what it does share is telling. “Mordor will rise, heroes will fall, and all will be revealed,” flash across the screen in the video, set to the sound of Bear McCreary’s score, titled “Sauron.” Viewers also see the first glimpse of Celebrimbor’s (Charles Edwards) forge that he will one day use to create the rings of power. “We...

A week before the “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” concludes its inaugural season, Amazon Prime Video debuted a fiery new trailer for the season finale that promises “all will be revealed.”
The trailer — which first screened at New York Comic-Con on Friday, as part of Prime Video’s panel for “The Rings of Power” — was light on new footage from the finale, save for a telling glimpse at what appears to be Celebrimbor’s forge, where the titular Rings of Power will eventually be created. Otherwise, the trailer recaps many of the biggest developments through the first season, while promising that while Mordor is rising, at lease some heroes “will fall” — and Sauron’s true identity will finally be revealed.
New York Comic-Con attendees got to see much more of the season finale. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, currently supervising production on Season 2 of “The Rings of Power” from London,...

It’s official: Amazon’s The Rings of Power has started filming its next season.
Production got underway on Monday at the new hub at Bray Studios just outside London.
The news follows the first official Nielsen ratings being released Thursday for the Prime Video series, showing The Rings of Power topped the streaming charts for its debut week with 1.3 billion minutes viewed (likely an Amazon series record given that only two hours were released).
The first season of the show was filmed in New Zealand over an epic stretch of 18 months during the pandemic. For season 2, which will consist of eight episodes, Amazon switched the show’s production to the U.K., which is considered more economical and is also where the company is establishing a multi-show hub.
The Rings of Power is approaching its seventh and penultimate episode of its debut season this week.

Amazon's highly anticipated journey into Middle-earth has finally arrived, expanding on a time period only briefly touched on in J.R.R. Tolkien's novels. "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is a daring, glossy, and thrilling original series that explores the Second Age of Middle-earth, approximately 5,000 years before the events of Peter Jackson's beloved "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Following characters both new and familiar, the series will explore how the Rings of Power came to be, and how the dark lord Sauron rose to power.
Drawing primarily on the material in the appendix of "The Lord of the Rings," "The Rings of Power" is one of the most exciting attempts to create original material in the Middle-earth canon. As a result, it has several fascinating new characters for viewers to dissect and enjoy, such as Halbrand and Disa, along with existing fan-favorites like Galadriel and Elrond.

Spoilers follow for the fifth episode of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
It's safe to assume that those behind "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" knew exactly what they were doing by coming out of the gate with a series of (relatively) slower-paced episodes. Not only did this give viewers time to really dig deep into the little details that makes Middle-earth feel so vibrant and alive, but it's also given us an excuse to ramp up the speculation surrounding the show's big bad. Everyone knew that a series titled "The Rings of Power" would have Sauron show up sooner or later. Though we briefly glimpsed his recognizable silhouette early in the premiere, the dark lord has remained stubbornly in the shadows ever since -- but the same can't be said for his evil influence.
As emphasized repeatedly in the first episode, the...

Last week’s instalment of The Rings of Power threw up some key questions: Would Halbrand break his oath by joining Galadriel’s voyage to the Southlands? Could young Theo resist the pull of Sauron’s blade? And what’s the significance of the dwarves mining Mithril? We’ve got answers to all of that and more this week, and there was still time to catch up with the Harfoots, too. They even sang us a song! In the singular world of Middle-earth, you just never quite know what you'll stumble upon next. Author J.R.R. Tolkien created such an unimaginably huge and fully lived-in universe that readers always had to stay on their toes. At any given moment, fans could anticipate the introduction of fascinating new settings and wild fantasy concepts (and maybe a jarring and divisive character or two) unlike anything else in the genre. Considering the thousands of years of history that Tolkien made up from scratch, the creators behind "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" faced an uphill battle to make all of this digestible to mainstream audiences. That's what makes it all the more remarkable that the last episode neatly (re)introduced a certain object that fans have definitely seen before.

J.R.R. Tolkien fans are finally getting to return to Middle-earth after the conclusion of Peter Jackson's franchise. Amazon Prime Video's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is set many generations before Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) and the Fellowship set out on their quest to destroy the One Ring and bring down the dark lord, Sauron. "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" trilogies take place within the Third Age of Middle-earth, but "The Rings of Power" goes back to the Second Age. We finally get to see how Sauron rose to power the first time and the creation of the rings themselves.
"The Rings of Power" features some familiar characters from "The Lord of the Rings." We get to see younger versions of Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), who were originally played by Hugo Weaving and Cate Blanchett, respectively. These characters are very different from who they become.

The excitement leading into The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was off the charts.
The highly-anticipated series, which is reportedly the most expensive TV show in history, got off the ground running with 25 million viewers in its first day.
Deadline reported the news, revealing that those numbers make it the best and biggest premiere in Prime Video's 15-year history.
“It is somehow fitting that Tolkien’s stories – among the most popular of all time, and what many consider to be the true origin of the fantasy genre – have led us to this proud moment,” said Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke today.
“I am so grateful to the Tolkien Estate – and to our showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, executive producer Lindsey Weber, cast and crew – for their tireless collaborative efforts and boundless creative energy."

Viral parodies of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’s ‘opening credits’ have viewers in stitches
On Friday (2 September), the first two episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power were released on Prime Video.
Ahead of the highly-anticipated premiere, fans have had a lot of fun with a fake opening credits scene, which bears an uncanny resemblance to a number of retro sitcoms and soap operas
The viral clip shows an arrangement of the series’ characters turning to face the camera in a dramatic fashion before fading into black – a much more low-budget offering than the real opening sequence.
“Apparently this is the intro for the new Lotr show... this is what 750 million buys you,” one popular tweet incorrectly stated.
Mashable points out that the video is actually a mash-up of images from a promo with Entertainment Weekly.
But that didn’t stop the parodies.

Even those with only a passing familiarity with fantasy author J.R.R. Tolkien's work know what to expect from an adaptation by now: lots of walking, scene transitions and fade-outs intercut with nerdy fantasy maps, and a dense collection of character names and locations that will likely make anyone's head spin. No production bearing the name of "The Lord of the Rings" is for the faint of heart, and "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is no exception.
The first two episodes of the new Prime Video series debuted last night and already seem to have garnered widespread praise, successfully translating Tolkien's writings about the Second Age of Middle-earth into something palatable, fresh, and yet familiar enough for broader audiences -- many of whom only have Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy as a frame of reference. Still, even with the various deep-cut references...

After months of build-up, "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is finally hitting our eyeballs today in all its wildly expensive glory. It’s been eight long years since the epic The Hobbit trilogy concluded with The Battle of the Five Armies, but now the wait is finally over for Tolkien fans: it’s time to go back to Middle-earth. The magic of the elves bestows gifts upon you, mortal. Prime Video has released the first two episodes of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power," earlier than expected. Though the release date is listed as Friday, September 2, 2022 (the anniversary of the passing of author J.R.R. Tolkien), Prime Video often drops their newest offerings a little early. We lucky fans are getting a bit of a speed boost in our journey to Middle-earth.
The series is set in the Second Age, thousands of years before the events of "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" trilogies, though we'll see some familiar characters like Galadriel and Elrond. This series will tell the story of how the rings of power were forged in the first place,...
