Veteran actress Revathi will be seen essaying the role of a hospital grief counsellor in the upcoming medical drama film ‘Aye Zindagi’. The film has been written and directed by Doctor Anirban Bose, who is also known for his novels ‘Bombay Rains, Bombay Girls’, ‘Mice in Men’ and ‘The Death of Mitali Dutto’.
Talking about this remarkable journey from being a doctor to turning writer-director, Anirban said in a statement: “‘Aye Zindagi’ is a big departure from what I normally do. Indian filmmaker Gitanjali Rao found global fame when she won three awards at Cannes for her 2006 animated short “Printed Rainbow.” Another animated short, 2014’s “TrueLoveStory,” also received considerable festival play. In 2018, she debuted as an actress with “October.” And now, her feature debut, “Bombay Rose,” the story of a flower seller who has to make the choice between protecting her family or allowing herself to fall in love, opens Critics Week at the Venice film festival, and will continue its festival journey at Toronto.
What are the styles of animation and art that you have explored in “Bombay Rose”?
The film has four styles that seamlessly merge into each other. The reality is constructed in an impressionistic style characteristic of my earlier short film “TrueLoveStory.” But within that I go into the mindscape of my protagonist Kamala, who hails from Madhya Pradesh, using the Kangra miniature painting style. Girish Karnad was one of the true intellectuals of post Independent India. A polyglot, playwright, actor, film maker, aesthete, scholar, teacher, critic and a humanist Girish was never a close friend but someone whom I always looked forward to meeting.
We came to know each other around 1972 through several common friends like Shyam Benegal, Basu Chatterjee, Satyadev Dubey and B.V. Karanth though I was acquainted with his work from the mid-sixties. His plays 'Yayati' (1961), 'Tughlaq' (1964), 'Hayavadana' (1972) and 'Nagamandala' (1988) rank among the finest Indian plays post-Independence.
A Rhodes scholar, Girish interestingly started by reading Mathematics in college. He was to become a scholar in history, literature, cinema and stagecraft. He was steeped in Indian tradition and had a deep study of our mythology, specially the Mahabharata.
He has won practically every award which an artiste in India can aspire for - Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, Sahitya Akademi Award, Kalidas Samman, Jnanpith Award,...

Ata Pata Laapata is an exciting musical satire on the corrupt bureaucratic systems which have deep roots not only in the governing stratum but also reflects in our society.
It marks the Directorial debut of one of the finest actors of Hindi Cinema Rajpal Yadav, also embarking a new style of experimental cinema on the lines of Broadway.
Ata Pata Laapata (Apl) uses intelligent metaphors and musical odes, to expose the undercurrent of corruption in a common man’s life and brings forth the power struggle between the chair holders and contenders staking the welfare of the people and development of the nation. Pran Kishan Sikand
Pran Kishan Sikand dreamt of becoming a professional photographer. Little did he know that a measly, humble ‘paan’ (betel leaf) would change his life and set him on his destined path. It was 1939 or thereabouts. Pran was at a ‘paan’ shop at Lahore, enjoying a munch with his friends when a stranger approached him and asked whether he wanted to act in films. Pran was amused and asked his name. Stranger introduced himself as Muhammad Walli, a renowned film maker in the flourishing film district of Lahore. He said he was making a Punjabi film and Pran looked a perfect fit for the role of a villain in the film. Pran just brushed him off. Walli kept insisting that he pay a visit to the studio, and pushed a piece of paper with his address into Pran’s hands. The film was Yamla Jat (1940), a runaway hit that year.

Mumbai, Dec 27: Satyadev Dubey faced indescribably hard times in his later days, actor Rajat Kapoor has revealed, adding that the late theatre veteran used to ask: 'I need money. Why doesn't anyone give me work to do?'
'I was his greatest admirer and to see him this way was unbearable for me. Satyadevji had no money in his last days. When I met him recently, he told me. He asked: 'Why doesn't anyone give me work to do.' The anguished question left me feeling helpless,' Rajit said, adding that the blunt and honest quality in Dubey's character often put his friends off.
'Satyadevji was so candid, he left you feeling naked under his.

'We were very close friends right up to his death on Sunday. In fact, I rushed back from Delhi where I was attending parliament, for his funeral,' said Benegal.
'I came to Mumbai in 1959. We were friends from 1962 till his death. We shared a very informal relationship. We could tell each other anything without fear of offending one another. You could call our friendship stormy. I valued his comments. He, I presume, valued mine..
