Our Flag Means Death has officially “reached the end of the road,” Series creator David Jenkins has revealed on Instagram that the period comedy has failed to find a new home following its cancellation on Max in January after two seasons.
“I can officially confirm that we’ve reached the end of the road,” Jenkins wrote. “At least as far as this sweet show is concerned. After many complimentary meetings, conversations, etc it seems there is no alternate home for our crew. Thank you to all of you who sent us out with tremendous love and care. Your campaign was noticed across the industry. But more importantly it made all of us who worked on this show better able to deal with the loss.”
Jenkins continued. “To you wonderful fans: thank you. You are lovely and earnest. Those kinds of things feel in short supply at times. But they aren’t.

Alas, me mateys, it turns out there's only one thing riskier than being a pampered 18th-century aristocrat who suddenly decides to try their hand at being a pirate: being a critically acclaimed Lgbtqia+-friendly show with a passionate and fiercely loyal fanbase at Warner Bros. Discovery under the watch of CEO David Zaslav.

Max is not moving forward with a third season of its period comedy series Our Flag Means Death. Deadline understands that the first two seasons will not be removed from the streaming service.
From David Jenkins, Our Flag Means Death is based (very) loosely on the true adventures of 18th-century would-be pirate Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby). After trading the seemingly charmed life of a gentleman for one of a swashbuckling buccaneer, Stede became captain of the pirate ship Revenge.
Struggling to earn the respect of his potentially mutinous crew, Stede’s fortunes changed after a fateful run-in with the infamous Captain Blackbeard (Taika Waititi). To their surprise, the wildly different Stede and Blackbeard found more than friendship on the high seas … they found love. Now, they have to survive it.

The first trailer for “Our Flag Means Death” Season 2 has arrived, and it’s full of old romances and new characters.
The show picks up right where Season 1 left off. “Our Flag Means Death” will follow Gentleman Pirate captain Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) as he tries to reunite his crew and apologize to his best friend and new love, Ed, aka Blackbeard (Taika Waititi).
After a near-death experience, Season 1 ended with Stede choosing to return to his old life and wife rather than sail away with Ed. It wasn’t a rejection that the notoriously violent Blackbeard took well and that’s set to be a main crux of this new season.
In addition to Darby and Waititi, Season 2 stars returning cast members Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Joel Fry, Matthew Maher, Kristian Nairn, Con O’Neill, David Fane, Samba Schutte, Nat Faxon and Leslie Jones.

Stede insists he and Blackbeard are on a break, refuses to admit he dumped the handsome pirate, and is shocked when Blackbeard declares their status as “former” shipmates in the trailer for Max’s Our Flag Means Death season two. After nearly a year and a half of waiting, Max’s pirate rom-com “Our Flag Means Death” will return on Oct. 5.
The first teaser for this new installment picks up right where Season 1 left off. Though the newly-in-love Stede (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) planned to run away together, a hostile encounter kept Stede away from the man he loves. Stede’s holdup caused Blackbeard to believe he had been abandoned.
The teaser starts with Stede tossing a bottled message into the ocean as his voiceover reads, “Dear Ed, I love everything about you. I love being near you, breathing the same air.”
As Stede waxes poetic about his new love, Blackbeard angrily growls “F–k you, Stede Bonnet.” The rest of the teaser bounces between Stede reading his love letter and defending Blackbeard and his heartbroken lover generally causing havoc in any way he can.

Max is hoping you’ll bust out the peg leg this Halloween. “Our Flag Means Death,” the streamer’s popular pirate comedy series, will return for Season 2 in October, the streamer announced Wednesday. The season will premiere on October 5, and Max also released a teaser to accompany the date announcement.
Created and showrun by David Jenkins, “Our Flag Means Death” is (extremely) loosely based on the life of Stede Bonnet, a real-life English landowner in Barbados who had a brief and largely disastrous run as a pirate captain in 1717. The show turns Stede’s (played by Rhys Darby) journey to piracy into a sitcom, as the idealistic and inexperienced captain struggles to gain the respect of the crew of his ship, The Revenge. His fortunes look up when he teams up with Ed Teach (Taika Waititi) — better known as the infamous Blackbeard — and the too soon develop an unexpected friendship that turns into love.

Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for the upcoming horror series “Archive 81,” which draws upon nostalgia for the videotape era of the 1990s to weave a chilling tale that plays out across dual timelines.
Loosely inspired by the podcast of the same name, “Archive 81” begins in present day with a character named Dan (Mamoudou Athie) being hired by a shadowy organization to restore video tapes that were damaged in a fire 25 years ago. Just as Disney Plus, HBO Max and Amazon Prime Video are revving up their fantasy, horror and sci-fi series slates for winter 2021-2022 debuts, Netflix is touting the abundance of genre series headed to the streamer.
Peter Friedlander, Netflix’s head of scripted series for the U.S. and Canada, announced premiere details for a slew of “geeky” shows, as well as returning fan-favorites like “Locke & Key” and “The Umbrella Academy.”
