In the midst of a slew of tour dates, grunge rock outfit Dogstar — which features Keanu Reeves as their bassist — stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday night in support of their first album in two decades, Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees.
Dressed in quintessential all-black attire, the band performed their recent single, “Breach,” which features a “nasty bass solo” from Reeves himself. Watch the full replay below.
The appearance marked Dogstar’s first TV outing since Jay Leno’s Tonight Show in July 2000. Formed in 1994, the band debuted with Reeves playing bass, Bret Domrose as the guitarist/vocalist, and Rob Mailhouse on drums. The trio released two albums, 1996’s Our Little Visionary and 2000’s Happy Ending, before calling it quits in 2002.
After reuniting last summer, Dogstar made their live comeback in May at the BottleRock festival. Get tickets for their upcoming shows here.

Dogstar have been trying to make a go of their sleek, post-grunge alt-rock for decades, but bassist Keanu Reeves’ and drummer Robert Mailhouse’s pesky day jobs as actors keep getting in the way. Now they have planned a third album, Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees, due out Oct. 6, and a sleek new video for the song “Breach.”
The track is a slow-throbbing rocker in the vein of Urge Overkill or Queens of the Stone Age, in which singer-guitarist Bret Domrose sings, “And everything you want, it...

One star not slowing down amid the actors strike is Keanu Reeves, who on Tuesday night returned to his rockstar side gig as bassist for band Dogstar.
The group, comprised of Reeves, guitarist/vocalist Bret Domrose and drummer Rob Mailhouse, was active between the mid ’90s to early 2000s, before taking a pause in 2002; they reunited for a show at BottleRock Napa Valley music festival in May, and on Tuesday played their first headlining concert in more than 20 years at The Roxy in Los Angeles.
The show also served as the launching point for new single “Everything Turns Around,” out Wednesday, and announcement of new album Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees, set to be released Oct. 6. Dogstar is also planning a 25-date headlining tour in North America and Japan in support of the album.

Back in the mid-1990s to the early 2000s, Keanu Reeves co-founded and played bass in a grunge band called Dogstar. After quietly reuniting last summer, the group has announced they will be “rolling out some new music” this summer, to be followed by some live shows.
Update — May 10th: BottleRock Festival has revealed Dogstar will give their first major comeback performance on Saturday, May 27th.
Last week, they shared a preview of a rooftop photoshoot on Instagram, and apparently, the reception was so strong that Dogstar couldn’t wait to share more news. “Thank you everyone for the kind comments. We are overjoyed to see such a response!” they wrote in the comments of the post. “Honestly, didn’t expect this. It makes us want to play out even more.”
