Camp Pleasant Lake: "DeskPop Entertainment will release Thomas Walton's refreshingly indie new horror film Camp Pleasant Lake in select cinemas and on VOD February 27th! The picture, which stars 90s screen icon Jonathan Lipnicki alongside a bevvy of genre film icons, is a loving throwback to the thrilling, violent summer camp slasher films of the 1980s.
In Camp Pleasant Lake, Rick and Darlene Rutherford breathe life into the eerie remnants of an old campsite, unaware of its dark past. Strange occurrences haunt the area, mirroring the tragedies of the old camp, where two decades earlier, a young girl was kidnapped and her parents brutally murdered. Amidst chilling atmospheres and long-forgotten secrets, the couple grapples with a horrifying revelation—they are entwined in the camp's history. And as the shadows of the past collide with the present, the Rutherfords must confront the haunting histories of a sinister crime.

The Wishmaster episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Jason Hewlett, Edited by Juan Jimenez, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Horror has had many periods and the late 1990s were very much for self-referential films, dark humor, and cameos. Wishmaster, or Wes Craven’s Wishmaster (watch it Here) as it was marketed at the time, is more on the dark humor side of things than self-referential. Still, it does have plenty of cameos and references to other movies to be found by those paying attention.
While the film was marketed as Wes Craven’s Wishmaster, the film was in fact, written by Peter Adkins and directed by Robert Kurtzman, two creators the world of horror already knew. Craven was an executive producer here, but his name put butts in seats back in the day,...

When it comes to the golden era of slasher films, most will say it was the 1980s, but the 1990s are not to be ignored as they brought us an amazing bunch of films and some that redefined the sub-genre (including one that’s getting a fifth sequel this weekend). Here’s our list of the Best 90s Slasher Films:
Wishmaster (1997)
This one is considered a fantasy slasher, so it’s a bit controversial as to if it is a slasher or not. For this list, let’s consider it one. It’s fantastic and Andrew Divoff is 98% of why it’s so good. This film is his and he makes it the best it could be. His work is both charming and menacing, giving his character an aura that makes the whole film what it is. It’s creepy, it has great kills, and the cameos in this one are to die for.

Andrew Divoff kind of looks like a young Josh Hartnett in this picture, doesn’t he? Well, he has been around quite a bit over a decade longer than the popular star, and yet despite that it’s likely that a lot of people don’t know his name, but have seen him more than once since he’s showed up in a great number of movies and TV shows over the years. He’s even lent his voice out for a few video games, which is interesting since he has such a thing for linguistics and appears capable of being able to modulate his

He’s part of the the reason you look under your bed at night.
His name’s Robert Englund, and for 35 years, you’ve probably referred to him as Freddy Krueger. Believe it or not, that’s about as long as it’s been since Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street first hit theaters, and among the several spinoffs and sequels it’s spawned, the film’s become a cult horror classic.
A lot of this acclaim can surely be attributed to Englund, whose eerie performance as the iconic dream-hunter has become a staple of scream cinema – showcased in seven additional films ranging from 1985 to 2003’s Freddy vs. Jason. So it makes sense that people want to know his story.

If you’re a fan of heist films, I’ve got a trailer here for you to watch for an upcoming movie called Vault, which is set in the 1970s.
The film is said to be based on a true story, and it follows a group of small time criminals in 1975 “who attempt to pull off the biggest heist in American history – stealing over $30 million from the Mafia in the smallest state in the union, Rhode Island.”
The movie was directed by Rhode Island native filmmaker Tom DeNucci, and it looks like a pretty good film that I’ll most likely end up checking out. The movie stars Theo Rossi, Clive Standen, Chazz Palminteri, Samira Wiley, Don Johnson, William Forsythe, Burt Young, Andrew Divoff, Sean Ringgold, Vincent Pastore, Dorothy Lyman, and Chuck Zito.
The movie is set to be released on June 14th on VOD.

"Anybody crosses Raymond gets buried." Lionsgate has released an official trailer for a low budget, direct-to-vod heist thriller titled Vault, set in the 1970s and seemingly based on a true story (maybe but also maybe not?). Made by Rhode Island native filmmaker Tom DeNucci, Vault is about a group of small time criminals who attempt to pull off the biggest heist in American history -- stealing over $30 million from the Mafia working in the smallest state in the union, Rhode Island. The ensemble cast includes Theo Rossi, Clive Standen, Chazz Palminteri, Samira Wiley, Don Johnson, William Forsythe, Burt Young, Andrew Divoff, Sean Ringgold, Vincent Pastore, Dorothy Lyman, and Chuck Zito. This looks like a forgettable, wannabe Scorsese crime film that no one will watch. Nothing to worry about here, move along. Here's the first official trailer (+ official poster) for Tom DeNucci's Vault, direct from YouTube: Vault tells a story...

Special makeup supremo Robert Kurtzman directs this 1997 homage to 1980s horror, and while its gross-out effects are impressive, the plot, characters and script leave much to be desired.
Wishmaster opens in 12th century Persia, and a royal party in chaos: people are mutating, skinning themselves, turning inside out, that sort of thing. It seems the king has made a deal with a Djinn, a mythical demon who will grant three wishes. On the third wish, a portal will open and the Djinn (plural) will be unleashed and take over the world of men. Or something. Thankfully, this Djinn is banished thanks to an opal made of blood.

Wishmaster is one of those movies that is a treat for horror geeks. Featuring some of the genre’s most iconic actors part of the fun is hunting out all the Easter eggs that are so easy to spot. The question is, on revisiting the film, does The Djinn (Andrew Divoff) still have what it takes to make your dreams come true?

Under Siege! Toy Soldiers! Cliffhanger! Speed! And the many other films that owe Die Hard a debt of gratitude...
The release of Die Hard in 1988 inaugurated a new trend in Hollywood action movies in which a new breed of everyman action hero faced off against terrorists in confined location. Between the one-man army action flicks of the eighties and the superheroes of the noughts, the Die Hard model was the action formula of record.
One of the main reasons for this success was that the formula was familiar yet flexible. All you needed was a location, a vaguely everyman hero, and a villain intent on (mostly) financial gain. Although the heyday of these movies was over twenty years ago, their influence endures to this day. Let’s take a look back…

Well, March is definitely “going out like a lamb” (as the old saying goes) when it comes to horror and sci-fi home entertainment releases, as there are only several different titles coming home this Tuesday.
Universal Studios is releasing J.A. Bayona’s heartbreaking modern fable, A Monster Calls, to both Blu-ray and DVD this week, and if you're a cult film fan, then you have a few fun movies to look forward to adding to your home collections: Witchtrap, Venom, and the four-film collection for Wishmaster, a new addition to the Vestron Video Collector’s Series.
Other notable releases for March 28th include Mortuary Massacre, The Abduction of Jennifer Grayson, Park Chan-Wook's The Handmaiden (which finally gets the Blu-ray treatment), and for the little monster fans, Monster High: Electrified.

The films are an example of diminishing returns, but the collection is more than the franchise’s fans could have wished for.
There are rumors that Lionsgate’s fantastic Vestron Video line of remastered, supplement-filled Blu-rays celebrating horror films from the ’80s and ’90s may be closing up shop. It’s unconfirmed, and LG themselves have been mum on the subject, but it would be an unfortunate turn of events for genre fans if true. They’re only nine releases in, but already they’ve done tremendous work with fantastic new editions of fun classics like Chopping Mall, Waxwork, and The Gate.
Their most recent release, and possibly their last if the rumor proves true, is the four-film Wishmaster Collection. As someone who had never seen the first film and was utterly unaware that three sequels even existed this set offered a first-time watch across the board. So of course I binge-watched all four across a single...
