Warsaw-based New Europe Film Sales has closed a raft of deals on the animated feature film “Yuku and the Himalayan Flower,” from directors Rémi Durin and Arnaud Demuynck.
The children’s animated feature, with graphics by Paul Jadoul, tells the story of Yuku, a little mouse who lives with her family in the basement of a castle and decides to embark on a quest to find the legendary Himalayan flower.
The film, which premiered at the Annecy fest and played in the Locarno Kids strand of the Locarno Film Festival, is produced by Artémis Prods. (“Mandibules”) and co-produced by Vivement Lundi! (“Flee”), La Boîte Prods. (“March of the Penguins”), Les Films du Nord and Nadasdy Film.
Pic has sold to Germany (Eksystent Distribution), Spain and Andorra (Pack Magic), Poland (Stowarzyszenie Nowe Horyzonty), Sweden (Smorgasbord Picture House), Denmark (Angel Films) and Latvia (Riga International Film Festival distribution).

Exclusive: As this week’s animation event Cartoon Movie rolls on (virtually), sales outfit New Europe has picked up rights to the upcoming family animation Yuku And The Himalayan Flower.

Gebeka Films has already secured France rights while Le Parc Distribution will handle distribution in Benelux in collaboration with Jef in Flanders and the Netherlands. Outside the Box is the Swiss distributor.

Brazilian director Ale Abreu’s The Boy and the World, about a child who heads to the city in search of his father, has won both the Crystal Award and Audience Award for the best feature-length film at the 38th edition of the Annecy International Animation Festival.
“The rising strength of Brazilian animation is confirmed. The Boy and The World’s double honours signal yet again the vitality of this cinematography,” said the festival’s artistic director, Marcel Jean.
It is the second year in a row that a Brazilian film has won the top prize. Last year, Luiz Bolognesi’s Rio 2096, capturing key periods in Brazil’s history though a man who lives for 600 years, clinched the Crystal for best feature.

Brussels -- A group of French, Belgian and British movies have been short-listed for the Cartoon d'Or prize presented by Cartoon, the European Association of Animation Film.
The prize will be awarded Sept. 18 in Ludwigsburg, Germany, at the annual Cartoon Forum.
