In the 1990s she joined the cast of EastEnders (1985) as Brown Owl Marge Green and played Pru in Noel's House Party (1991). In the mid 1990s she was diagnosed with the bone disease Osteoporosis but continued to work until the end of her life, recording a final installment of the radio series "Like They've Never Been Gone" (with June Whitfield and Roy Hudd) in February 2002.

A lovable lady, Pat Coombs, who never married (although came close twice), died at Denville Hall, the actor's retirement home, on 25 May 2002. She was 75 years old.

    • After being a student teacher at a Croydon kindergarden for 3 years she won a post war victory scholarship to the London Academy of Music and taught dialect there for several years. She then spent time in repertory at Scunthorpe, Nottingham and Peterborough before making her way into radio drama which was her first love. At one point or another she worked with almost every British comedian over the years. That part of her career started with Ted Ray in 'Ray's A Laugh' and Arthur Askeyr in 'Hello Playmates' and 'The Charlie Chester Show'. She then formed a double act with Irene Handl in 'Mrs Purvis and Nola'. In between radio work she did pantomimes and seaside shows meeting Dick Emery in one of the latter resulting in them appearing together in many shows. She rated her first real success in 'Beggar My Neighbour ' with Reg Varney
