One of the best (and silliest) qualities of "Futurama" is just how much the world of the future hasn't changed from the present. Yes, there are alcoholic robots and aliens all around, but the characters are always just so happening to deal with the same basic social issues of the audience's time, from global warming to corporate greed to bitcoin. History repeats itself, it seems, and according to "Futurama" it repeats itself in thousand-year cycles.
Case in point was the 2010 episode "Proposition Infinity," an episode that was clearly inspired by California's Proposition 8, in which California voters in the 2008 election voted to effectively ban gay marriage in the state. The controversial proposition is so infamous in part because of how quickly voters' views on gay marriage would change; if the proposition had been on the ballot just a year later, it's likely most Californians would've voted against it. When Lena Dunham first read the script for Julia von Heinz’s “Treasure,” it hit home.
The “Girls” creator’s grandmother had just died at 96, and Dunham found herself thinking a lot about her heritage. “Treasure,” based on the 1999 novel “Too Many Men” by Lily Brett, follows Ruth (Dunham), a journalist who travels to Poland with her Holocaust survivor father (Stephen Fry) to confront their family’s tragic past. Not only did Dunham agree to star in the film, but her production company, Good Thing Going, signed on as well.
Both Dunham and her producing partner, Michael P. Cohen, are Jewish and found the story “incredibly resonant for both of our families,” Dunham tells Variety at Berlin Film Festival, where “Treasure” debuts on Saturday night.
“We both looked at each other after we read the script and went like, ‘This is something we’re going to be proud to tell our children that we made.

Among the fashion elite participating in New York Fashion Week, currently in full swing, actress Julia Fox continues to stand out with her unconventional fashion choices.
Her recent appearance at the Laquan Smith show on Monday, in particular, made waves.
Fox has long been known to push boundaries and defy norms with her outfits. From a tiny bow-adorned lace bra to a bikini layered over thermals to a floor-sweeping veil paired with a harness, she embraces audacious fashion fearlessly and her latest look was no exception—a black dress with a plunging scoop-neck and strategic cut-outs.
Fox opted to go braless and confidently flaunted underboob. To combat the chilly New York weather, she layered a voluminous white faux fur coat over her ensemble and exuded the trending mob wife aesthetic. Her look was completed by a pair of towering black patent platform heels.

YouTube is building Shorts into a key feature for the platform’s community of musical artists. In a blog post, YouTube announced Remix, a collection of editing tools that help fans repurpose the biggest moments from their favorite music videos.
By tapping a Remix button that will appear next to YouTube music videos, creators can incorporate elements of those videos in four different ways. The Sound option brings the original audio to the remixed Short; Collab sets up a split-screen response reminiscent of TikTok’s Stitches; Green Screen exports the original video to the background of the Remix; and the Cut tool allows users to clip specific scenes. YouTube’s blog post, attributed to Shorts exec Sarah Ali, specifies that a “five-second clip” is a good size for a Cut.

The BBC has bowed to a torrent of pressure from Jewish staffers and groups by cutting scenes of an Apprentice contestant from the You’re Fired companion show following antisemitic tweets.
Controversial contestant Dr Asif Munaf’s scenes are understood to have been recorded over the weekend but will not be shown on the upcoming companion show.
BBC staffers are said to have been “shocked” by the decision to have filmed the scenes. A Telegraph report last month revealed that Munaf had been given diversity training after making antisemitic posts on social media including writing that Zionists are a “godless satanic cult” and references to the “trial of the zionist antichrist.”
At the time, a BBC source told The Telegraph, “had this content been posted before filming took place, Asif would not have been included in the show.”

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost a year since Lisa Rinna announced her stunning exit from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
She was one of the long-running series’ primary pot-stirrers, so there was always that worry the show wouldn’t have the same level of drama without her.
The good news? Rhobh is less toxic than it’s been for years.
The bad news? It’s also one of the most boring seasons in years.
But the show seems like a distant memory for Rinna, who doesn’t seem to have much of a connection with her former co-stars.
The actress and model has been keeping busy since her eight-season run on the Bravo hit concluded.

Jailed rap star Kodak Black scored a legal victory Friday when a Florida judge dismissed his drug charge linked to his Dec. 7 arrest for possession of a substance deemed “cocaine” at the scene but was actually oxycodone through subsequent lab testing. Black, whose legal name is Bill Kapri, submitted a prescription for the oxycodone to the court prior to the ruling. Prosecutors tried, but failed, to convince the court that more was needed to substantiate the script.

At the start of Matt Groening's and David X. Cohen's 31st-century sci-fi sitcom "Futurama," the alcoholic robot Bender (John Dimaggio) sounded a little bit more like a drunken vagrant. He slurred his speech more and seemed less able to concentrate. As the show progressed, Bender became more self-assured, like the guy at the bar who — after his fourth shot of Jim Beam — is 100% confident he could thrash the bouncer. Bender became egotistical in addition to being a drunken criminal. On DVD commentary tracks, the makers of "Futurama" have said that Bender, in being a robot, allowed them more explicit depictions of violence and vice; a human character cannot drink a gallon of rotgut whiskey and smoke four cigars simultaneously, but a robot can. The Fox censors are weird.
Prior to "Futurama," Dimaggio only had a few credits to his name. His first gig was playing ancillary voices in...

Peacock’s Apples Never Fall, MGM+’s Hotel Cocaine and Nrk’s buzzy drama about Leonard Cohen, So Long, Marianne will be in the International Competition race at Series Mania in March.
The shows will be up against BBC Three’s UK series Boarders, France 2 drama Dans L’Ombre (In the Shadows), Ard’s German series Herrhausen, the Banker and the Bomb, ABC Australia’s House of Gods, and Franco-Hungarian co-production Rematch, which is for Arte, Disney+ and HBO Europe.

No, it’s not Taylor Swift. Instead, the authors of Penguin’s Argylle novel are revealed to be Terry Hayes and Tammy Cohen.
Forming part of a surprisingly elaborate marketing campaign, early January 2024 saw the release of a novel called Argylle, billed as an “explosive spy thriller that inspired the new Matthew Vaughn film”.
Rather than a traditional tie-in – one of those books that essentially takes a screenplay and turns it into page-turning prose – the book was instead a standalone thriller based on the antics of the spy played by Henry Cavill in the film. In a further post-modern twist, the Argylle novel is credited to Elly Conway, the character played in the movie by Bryce Dallas Howard.
This begged the question: if Conway’s a fictional character, who really wrote the novel? Much speculation ensued, including the quite batty theory that Argylle had been written by Taylor Swift – a...

There's something to be said for keeping a movie's marketing simple. Matthew Vaughn's new action-comedy spy thriller "Argylle" opened in theaters this week, after more than two years of Vaughn claiming that the movie was based on an upcoming novel by mysterious first-time author Elly Conway. What little buzz there was around this movie generally revolved around Henry Cavill's flat-top hairstyle, complaints about the cat CGI, and speculation that "Elly Conway" might be Taylor Swift.

The premise of David X. Cohen and Matt Groening's "Futurama" is pretty simple. On New Year's Eve in the year 1999, a feckless and directionless pizza delivery boy named Fry (Billy West) accidentally falls into a cryogenic freezing tube and remains suspended for a thousand years. He awakens just as the world rings in the year 3000, and eventually takes a job working for a distant nephew named Professor Farnsworth (West), who owns a space-bound delivery company of his own. He also develops a crush on an impatient cyclops named Leela (Katey Sagal). The world of the year 3000 is replete with sci-fi trappings familiar to any fan of the genre; there are robots, aliens, space travel, and ineffable technologies.
The central joke of "Futurama" is that, despite all of humanity's advancements, human beings are still dumb and petty and concerned with their selfish creature comforts and base impulses. Fry may have been whisked into the future,...

When "Futurama" debuted in 1999, smartphones weren't yet ubiquitous. There were some computer-like phones on the market, of course — tech-savvy nerds might recall Ibm's Simon from 1994 — but the first wireless internet-ready phones weren't put on the mass market until 2001. The first iPhone wasn't introduced until 2007, and by then, "Futurama" had already been canceled for the first time. As such, when one sees the 31st-century characters on "Futurama" using cell phones, they are extrapolated from the cellular technologies of the present. It wouldn't be until the 2011 "Attack of the Killer App" that modern iPhone technology would be addressed on "Futurama," and the showrunners depicted a world where eyePhones were implanted directly into the users' eyeballs.

A typical YouTube creator pays close attention to the size of their audience, but on February 1, the platform celebrated a different type of subscriber. In a post on its official blog, YouTube announced that its YouTube Music and YouTube Premium tiers now reach 100 million paying customers.
The nine-digit subscriber figure includes Premium and Music buyers who are still in their trial periods. Those services are currently available across more than 100 countries; their availability crossed the 50-country mark back in 2019.
YouTube’s paid subscriptions have changed a lot since Premium was first introduced (as YouTube Red) back in 2015, but they’re consistently attracted new customers, who are eager to remove ads from YouTube and take advantage of other benefits. “Through it all, we’ve remained focused on delivering a best-in-class experience to our global YouTube community,” reads the blog post.

Demi Moore has given an update on ex-husband Bruce Willis‘s dementia battle, and how family members are coping. Willis, 68, ended his acting career in 2022 after being diagnosed with aphasia. By February, 2023, the Die Hard and The Sixth Sense actor’s family revealed that he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. “I think the most important thing I could share is just to meet them where they’re at,” Moore, 61, told Andy Cohan, 55, on his SiriusXM show Radio Andy on January 30. “When you let go of who they’ve been or who you think, or even who you would like them to be, you can then really stay in the present and take in the joy and the love that is present and there for all that they are — not all that they’re not.” Cohen praised Moore’s “beautiful” response. Exclusive: The BBC director general has held “listening meetings” with staff as the British broadcaster seeks to address internal unrest over perceived bias in its coverage of the Israel-Gaza war.
Several BBC insiders said Tim Davie and other senior managers have sat down with employees in recent weeks, giving them the space to air concerns about the corporation’s output since Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023.
Deadline can reveal that one such meeting took place on January 12, when around two dozen employees, including senior presenters, challenged Davie with allegations that the BBC was being biased against Palestinians.
Similar meetings have taken place with workers who feel the BBC’s output has been unfavorable to Israel. The Daily Telegraph reported last week that at least 22 Jewish staff members have submitted formal complaints about antisemitism and the social media activity of presenter Gary Lineker, who recently reposted (and later deleted) a call...

Sony Pictures has released a brand new trailer for an upcoming horror flick titled "Tarot." This one was originally going under the title "Horrorscope," but the powers that be decided to be a little more straightforward about what's happening here. Yes, it's about deadly tarot cards and, based on the trailer, it looks very much like what one might expect from a horror movie about deadly tarot cards. Check it out for yourself above.
The footage doesn't give away too much by way of story specifics. It focuses more on the gimmick, which is that this possessed tarot card deck unleashes various deadly beings on its unsuspecting victims. It is also pretty heavy on the jump scares for those who are into that sort of thing. It appears to be cut from the same cloth as 2014's "Ouija." Whether or not that's a good or a bad thing is up...

Sinister cards, death, teenagers. That’s all you need to know about the new horror film Tarot before watching the trailer here.
A group of teens begin dying mysteriously after taking part in a sinister game. Sound familiar? This could easily describe mutliple films such as Ouija, Truth Or Dare or Stay Alive.
In this case, though, we’re talking about Tarot, which is aiming to be 2024’s big horror sensation.
Take a look at the Tarot trailer.
If the name Tarot doesn’t ring a bell, not to worry. The film was going by the name Horrorscope until recently.
Here’s the official synopsis: “When a group of friends recklessly violates the sacred rule of Tarot readings – never use someone else’s deck – they unknowingly unleash an unspeakable evil trapped within the cursed cards. One by one, they come face to face with fate and end up in a...

Jeff Ryan, Scott Cohen, Katerina Tannenbaum, Geneva Carr and Will Chase will star in “Mooch.” The crime comedy was also written and directed by Ryan, whose credits include “Mean Spirited” and “YouthMin.”
The filmmakers received an interim agreement to work on this independent production during last year’s SAG-Afrtra strike. It recently wrapped production in Lexington, Mass.
The movie focuses on a 30-year-old caddy named Shane (Ryan), who winds up with an unexpected gig as a personal private eye for a New Jersey nightclub owner. Even though he inches closer to realizing his ambitions, his personal life spirals out of control.
“When I was in high school, my friend’s dad told me I was going to fail in life because I was a ‘Mooch,’” said Ryan. “Making this film was a dream come true, and I am proud to put my dirty laundry on screen for all to enjoy.

Anderson Cooper couldn’t stop laughing during John Mayer’s appearance in CNN’s New Year’s Eve Times Square special.
With less than an hour left to ring in 2024 on the East Coast, Cooper and co-host Andy Cohen were having fun while being able to drink again. Though this time they were on their best behavior, the hosts proved to be having fun when the “Your Body Is a Wonderland” singer tuned in from Tokyo’s cat bar Cats in the Box.
This John Mayer interview at a Cat Cafe in Tokyo is totally unhinged.

Andy Cohen doesn’t want any drama with Ryan Seacrest this New Year’s Eve.
The Bravo personality is once again hosting CNN’s special from Times Square alongside Anderson Cooper.
At the top of each hour, the hosts are taking shots of alcohol to toast the new year; two years ago, Cohen and Cooper got noticeably tipsy, especially Cohen, who dissed Seacrest on the air as the latter was hosting ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.
“If you look behind me, you’ll see Ryan Seacrest’s group of losers performing,” Cohen said on the December 2021 special. “I’m sorry, but if you’re watching ABC, you’re watching nothing.” Cohen later apologized on his SiriuxXM radio show.

Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper rang in 2024 with some boozing on live television — bringing back alcohol consumption to CNN after staying sober for last year’s New Year’s Eve broadcast.

“Can Daddy get his juice responsibly?” Cooper asked, before Cohen pulled out a bottle of tequila and shot glasses, and both imbibed to start the show.

Paris Hilton admitted it was tough for her parents Kathy and Richard Hilton to read her tell-all new book, Paris: The Memoir.
Hilton spoke out about things including suffering physical and psychological abuse during her time at Provo Canyon School — a Utah boarding school for troubled teens — in her 2020 documentary, “This Is Paris”.
She then dove further into some of the harder parts of her life in her memoir, with Andy Cohen questioning whether she was nervous about her parents reading certain bits.
Hilton said during her appearance on “Watch What Happens Live” on Thursday: “So much of the book. I talk about things I’ve never told anyone. It was definitely really hard for my parents to read. It’s been very emotional.
“But I’m so, just proud to tell my story and to have made such a difference in the troubled teen industry.”

Two icons are back in action this weekend as Roadside Attractions presents the comedy Moving On with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin on close to 800 screens, hoping it will connect with female audiences.
Focus Features also opens Willem Dafoe-starring Inside from Vasilis Katsoupis on 350+ screens.
It’s been relatively quiet on the specialty front. “There’s not that much out there for this audience right now,” said Howard Cohen, co-president of Roadside Attractions. “I think this is the opportunity that we felt — it’s after the Oscars and before the Sundance movies and summer movies.”
