The rapper Prodigy, half of the hip-hop duo Mobb Deep, has died in Las Vegas, multiple sources confirm. He was 42 years old.

One of the co-founders of Jay-z's Roc-a-Fella Records, Kareem "Biggs" Burke, was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday after pleading guilty to conspiring to distribute more than 100 kilos of marijuana.

According to the New York Daily News, Biggs was snared as part of a dragnet dubbed "Operation Green Venom," in which 50 people were arrested for conspiracy to distribute marijuana in a coordinated sting that included New York's Department of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the New York Police Department, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in New York and the Special Narcotics Prosecutor's office.

Burke was caught via a wiretap discussing activities at a grow house with the ring's leader. Prosecutors alleged that the drugs were being grown using hydroponic systems in Florida and...

Rap beefs can be unpredictable things. Jay-z and Nas's rivalry buoyed hip hop for nearly a decade, the infamous West Coast vs. East Coast rivalry is blamed for the deaths of Tupac and Biggie and Drake and Common's feud resulted in a hug.

Enter Nicki Minaj and the ever-excitable Hot 97 DJ's. The former dropped out of the Hot 97 Summer Jam (one of hip hop's biggest concerts) Sunday. Minaj (and Lil' Wayne) were enraged by comments made earlier in the day by Peter Rosenberg, a Hot 97 personality. Rosenberg slammed Minaj's "Starships" as a pop song and suggested artists like Minaj have no place on the festival's stage. (Which, to be fair to Nicki, seems like a foul move. Hot 97 booked her to perform, then publicly bashed her integrity as an artist).

Kanye West's "Mercy" hit airwaves on Thursday, and the song featuring 2Chainz, Pusha-t and Big Sean generated quite a storm, igniting a DJ war that overshadowed any lyrics on the track.

Though "Mercy" was supposed to be released at midnight on Good Friday (get it?), West mixed it up again by passing the track to radio DJ's who played it on the radio at just after 8 pm on Thursday. DJ Clue and Funkmaster Flex played the song, and both of the influential radio hosts played the song with their own promos dropped on the track.

Clue taunted Flex on the air, telling his competitors to "get off my heels." After he played the track, Flex wasted no time ripping into Clue, yelling, "You're not built like me! You don't work hard enough! You don't get up early enough! You want to look cool while I'm out stealing music!"

Now that Fabolous has killed off his competition with Christmas mixtape There Is No Competition 3: Death Comes in 3s, the Brooklyn Mc is fast at work on his sixth studio album, Loso's Way 2.

"Loso's Way 2 is a work-in-process. I put a lot in my mixtapes, but I definitely put a lot into my albums as well," Fab told MTV News, referencing the DJ Drama-helmed Tinc 3 and the upcoming album. "I know a lot of people like mixtape Fab, and albums, to me, you're speaking to a broader audience sometimes. I take that at hand. I guess everybody doesn't see that."

Since his rise in the late 1990s on DJ Clue's street mixtapes, Fab has carved a niche as a witty lyricist, thanks to his clever punch lines and lyrics.

Tennis ace Serena Williams reportedly is eying to try her hands on rap game. The former No. 1 tennis player was recently spotted having a recording session in a studio owned by Minnesota Vikings star Bryant McKinnie.

According to TMZ, Serena recorded not just one but a few tracks. The 29-year-old athlete allegedly worked on them with the help from renowned hip-hip producer DJ Clue. "She wasn't half-bad," the publication said.

Beside hitting the studio, Serena has also been busy preparing for her comeback on the courts. She was forced to take time away from tennis after undergoing surgery for a foot injury last year, and was back to the hospital last February after suffering a blood clot in her lungs.

The Associated Press reports that around 300 guests — including Spike Lee, Kim Kardashian and fellow baller LeBron James — watched the couple swap vows at Manhattan's Cipriani restaurant. The duo's 3-year-old son, Kiyan, escorted them down the aisle.

Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony married his longtime girlfriend Lala Vazquez in a lavish New York ceremony at the Manhattan restaurant Cipriani on Saturday night, July 10. Anthony and Vazquez's 3-year-old son, Kiyan, escorted the wedding couple to the altar.

According to People, Vazquez donned a Vera Wang wedding gown as she swapped vows with Anthony at the nuptials which was performed by Dr. Michael Eric Dyson. All over New York City Wednesday night, actors, DJs, musicians, athletes and other celebrities took part in events collecting money and other donations to help Haiti recover from last week's 7.0 magnitude earthquake.

Actress Susan Sarandon was joined by designer Rachel Roy, model Selita Ebanks and "30 Rock" funnyman Judah Friedlander, among others, at Manhattan's SPiN New York ping pong club. Artists for Peace and Justice co-sponsored the event with Modelinia, and all of its donations and auction proceeds are going to the Haiti Disaster Relief Fund.

Nearby in Midtown, writer and MTV "Real World" alum Kevin Powell was joined by executives from Bad Boy and Def Jam records for the Hearts 4 Haiti clothing and food drive at Arena.

"I Invented Sex" and "Say Aah" feature Drake and Fabolous respectively. New York — To quote a track from her just-released album, Rated R, the wait is over for Rihanna.

The singer was feted at her album-release party in Manhattan on Tuesday night as Jay-z, Diddy and Fabolous, among others, turned out at Juliet's Supper Club to celebrate Rihanna's first project since her February assault earlier this year by Chris Brown.

The Barbadian beauty arrived at the festivities fashionably late, just after 1 a.m., but the cameras were at the ready, capturing Rihanna's red-carpet strut. The fashion icon sported a shimmering gold micro-dress with long spikes sporadically jutting out all over and matching shoes.

Several pictures taken from the shooting location of Trey Songz's "Say Aah" music video have been posted on the singer's official website. Some of the newly-found snaps capture Trey sitting on the couch and getting cozy with a number of women.

The video was shot in Brooklyn, New York City. Fellow musicians Wynter Gordon and DJ Clue are also spotted vising the set. There has been no premiere date for the video which is directed by Yolande Geralds.

"Say Aah" comes from Trey Songz's third studio album entitled "Ready" which peaked at number 3 on Billboard Hot 200 since making its way out in United States on September 1. The song features Fabolous who is also set to make cameo on its upcoming music video.

Event doubled as an album-release party for documentary's soundtrack, which features Drake, Lil Wayne, Eminem and Kanye West collabo.

New York — Kanye West must really like G-Shock watches. The Def Jam star put on a spectacular performance for the second year in a row at Casio's Shock the World event at Cipriani's on Wall Street, where the company unveiled new timepieces and a series of collaborations with Redman, celebrity tattoo artist Mister Cartoon and skateboarder Stevie Williams, among others.

West capped off the festivities with an hourlong set. He entered wearing a mask to shield his face and was accompanied by a shifting digital display behind him that counted down his time onstage. The rap star was often restrained while performing some of his biggest hits, including Jay-z's latest, "Run This Town," sans Rihanna and Jay. The toned-down effect signaled a quiet intensity reminiscent of an "MTV Unplugged" session.

Fabolous was living it up Monday night. The Brooklyn Mc celebrated the release of his fifth LP Loso's Way at Manhattan night spot Griffin.

Like his album, which arrives in stores and online today, the event was full of stars.

Faboulous was joined by Keri Hilson, Wale, Ryan Leslie and Nina Sky, among others. DJ Clue manned the turntables. And hit after hit that Fab's contributed to over the years blasted over the speakers throughout the night.

Prior to the shindig, 'Loso was joined by big chief L.A Reid and a mix of Def Jam execs and media members for a screening of the accompanying DVD production of "Loso's Way," the film that comes as a part of the deluxe set.
