Jay-Z and Nas’ earliest collaboration has finally gotten an official release on the reissue of — seriously — Shaquille O’Neal’s 1996 album, You Can’t Stop the Reign.

It’s understandable that the turn from July to August on the calendar doesn’t create much excitement for most TV viewers. That’s especially true this year, as Hollywood writers and actors are both on strike, meaning that new episodes of scripted TV shows will be hard to come by this fall unless the work stoppage is resolved very quickly (spoiler alert: it won’t be).
But August will bring some beloved titles back to streaming for new seasons, and some new selections that viewers may fall in love with while they wait for a world in which their old favorites are firing up production once again. Check below to see which shows and movies are making their way to streaming this week!

Key Art for Mixtape, streaming on Paramount+, 2023. Paramount+ announced that Mixtape, a new documentary exploring how the creation of mixtapes launched hip hop into mainstream culture, will premiere exclusively on the service Tuesday, August 1 in the U.S. and Canada and Wednesday, August 2 in the U.K., Australia, Latin America and Brazil, with further international markets to follow later in the year. Mixtape is the story of hip hop refusing to take no for an answer. Before radio play, the internet, and social media, there were mixtapes. DJs were tastemakers, trendsetters and creators of the sound that became the biggest musical genre on the planet. The importance of mixtapes goes well beyond the tapes themselves. Mixtapes were a form of currency and a signifier that someone was “in the know” and had their ear to the streets. The culture was too strong to be stopped, and the artists were too...

Vic Mensa addressed the growing controversy surrounding deceased rapper XXXTentacion and Mensa’s Bet Hip-Hop Awards cypher performance, which airs on October 16th. On Sunday, DJ Scheme, a producer who worked with XXXTentacion, accused the Chicago rapper of stating “Your favorite rapper is an abuser” and mentioning XXXTentacion during his freestyle. Last year, Miami New Times described Scheme as the “DJ Clue to Miami’s up-and-coming Jay-Zs,” for his work with XXXTentacion, Wifisfuneral, Ski Mask the Slump God and the larger South Florida area rap scene.

Rap beefs can be unpredictable things. Jay-z and Nas's rivalry buoyed hip hop for nearly a decade, the infamous West Coast vs. East Coast rivalry is blamed for the deaths of Tupac and Biggie and Drake and Common's feud resulted in a hug.
Enter Nicki Minaj and the ever-excitable Hot 97 DJ's. The former dropped out of the Hot 97 Summer Jam (one of hip hop's biggest concerts) Sunday. Minaj (and Lil' Wayne) were enraged by comments made earlier in the day by Peter Rosenberg, a Hot 97 personality. Rosenberg slammed Minaj's "Starships" as a pop song and suggested artists like Minaj have no place on the festival's stage. (Which, to be fair to Nicki, seems like a foul move. Hot 97 booked her to perform, then publicly bashed her integrity as an artist).

Kanye West's "Mercy" hit airwaves on Thursday, and the song featuring 2Chainz, Pusha-t and Big Sean generated quite a storm, igniting a DJ war that overshadowed any lyrics on the track.
Though "Mercy" was supposed to be released at midnight on Good Friday (get it?), West mixed it up again by passing the track to radio DJ's who played it on the radio at just after 8 pm on Thursday. DJ Clue and Funkmaster Flex played the song, and both of the influential radio hosts played the song with their own promos dropped on the track.
Clue taunted Flex on the air, telling his competitors to "get off my heels." After he played the track, Flex wasted no time ripping into Clue, yelling, "You're not built like me! You don't work hard enough! You don't get up early enough! You want to look cool while I'm out stealing music!"

Rap rivals Soulja Boy and Fabolous put their differences aside during a U.S. radio interview on Wednesday, September 8 following a vicious online war of words. The pair fell out after Fabolous joked on his Twitter.com page about allegations Soulja Boy used cocaine, branding the young hip-hop star Stupid Boy Swag in reference to his hit "Pretty Boy Swag".
Soulja Boy was left fuming over the post, and fired back at the "Trade It All" hitmaker in a series of aggressive tweets. On Tuesday, he wrote, "I will murder that n**ga fab in a freestyle battle he garbage compared to soulja boy (sic). Fab is so mothaf**kin lame he pick the wrong week to beef. Lets see how much his new 'Ep' sell 1st week (sic). Garbage a** rapper."
But the pair called a truce during a radio interview with DJ Clue of Power 105 in New York on Wednesday,...

A radio rip is all we have for now, but at least it's something: Lil Wayne's "Right Above It" featuring Drake premiered on DJ Clue's Power 105.1 radio show yesterday (Aug. 4), right around the same time the rapper was giving an interview from jail to Hot 97. The song is culled from the Grammy winner's forthcoming Ep, "I'm Not a Human Being," due on his 28th birthday, Sept. 27. He recorded the tracks before he headed to jail on gun charges earlier this year. He will be released from Rikers Island in November. In his first phone interview from prison,...

Every day a multitude of stars wanders through the halls of MTV News to talk about their latest projects and goof around with our intrepid correspondents. But sometimes we catch stars elsewhere, and that's why we put together Spotted!, a daily compendium of stars in the wild.
Just like "Glee" (our other favorite show on television), we'll have to wait an awfully long time before we can jump back into the world of "Gossip Girl" (new episodes don't air until March 8). Still, there will be plenty of opportunities to hang out with our favorite overprivileged young Manhattanites. Leighton Meester is prepping for the release of her debut album Love is a Drug, Blake Lively will be appearing in the new Ben Affleck-directed film The Town, Ed Westwick is working on a version of "Wuthering Heights" and you'll be able to catch Michelle Trachtenberg in the movie "Cop Out" in February.

Since he first dropped his debut album in 1996, Jay-z became an instant classic on the hip-hop scene. Now that he is about to drop his 11th album The Blueprint 3, MTV News takes a look back at the history of one of the greatest artists in rap history with The J to Z of Jay-z.
For the past 13 years, Jay-z has produced phenomenal hit after phenomenal hit, from "Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)" and "Big Pimpin'" to "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)" and "99 Problems." Whether his abilities are genetic or learned through years of training, his success proves that Hova has no problem marrying the gritty truth of the streets with hooky, soulful beats — a feat many MCs have attempted and failed. New York — Kanye West must really like G-Shock watches. The Def Jam star put on a spectacular performance for the second year in a row at Casio's Shock the World event at Cipriani's on Wall Street, where the company unveiled new timepieces and a series of collaborations with Redman, celebrity tattoo artist Mister Cartoon and skateboarder Stevie Williams, among others.
West capped off the festivities with an hourlong set. He entered wearing a mask to shield his face and was accompanied by a shifting digital display behind him that counted down his time onstage. The rap star was often restrained while performing some of his biggest hits, including Jay-z's latest, "Run This Town," sans Rihanna and Jay. The toned-down effect signaled a quiet intensity reminiscent of an "MTV Unplugged" session.
