Of President Joe Biden’s myriad quips and Dad joke-level zingers at Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner — including around the thorny issue of his age and aimed at former President Donald Trump — one joke, in particular, referenced a notable, recent move by his campaign.
Speaking to a crowd of media figures, A-list celebrities and Beltway power brokers who’d just wrapped up their dinner, Biden started serving up one punchline after another. About halfway through his tight 15, the president referred to his recent sitdown with talk radio host Howard Stern.
“I have higher standards,” Biden said from the podium. “I do interviews with strong independent journalists who millions of people actually listen to…like Howard Stern.”
Goofing on Stern’s journalistic credibility landed with the audience, which, despite the spectacle of the star-studded event, is meant to honor the bravery, tenacity and grit of some of the best reporters in the nation.

Former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial reached the end of its second week as the prosecution’s first witness, former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker, returned to the stand on Friday.
Defense attorneys sought to challenge Pecker’s narrative of Trump’s alleged involvement in suppressing “embarrassing” stories in the 2016 campaign.
Throughout the week, Pecker testified that Trump and his then-lawyer, Michael Cohen, had requested him to serve as their “eyes and ears” and uncover whatever salacious stories could harm Trump’s candidacy. Pecker also said that he was asked to publish negative stories about Trump’s opponents. In cross-examination, Trump’s attorney, Emil Bove, aimed to undermine Pecker’s credibility and highlighted instances in which he had mixed up dates and suggested that the passage of time could affect his memory.

There were many memorable cinematic performances that came from actresses in 1999 (Annette Bening in American Beauty, Samantha Morton in Sweet and Lowdown, Julianne Moore in Magnolia). And then there was a truly iconic turn from Reese Witherspoon as Tracy Flick, the terrifying antagonist in Alexander Payne’s sharp political satire, Election.
A cunning, ambitious and oh-so-annoying foil to her teacher and would-be mentor, Omaha-area social studies instructor Jim McAllister (Matthew Broderick), Tracy is at times the worst — for example, when her affair with Mr. McAllister’s best friend is discovered, the teenager has no qualms about abandoning him entirely — and in other moments, Tracy can be the absolute best. At least, she insists on that top slot, no matter what: having the highest grades, getting into the best college, winning a high school election — she’s destined for greatness, which in the time Election takes place means winning the office...

When someone drops an F-bomb on Saturday Night Live, it’s generally pretty newsworthy. But for some viewers, “the ‘Gd’ term” is equally offensive.
That’s the lesson Brooke Germain, an editor at The Nevada Sagebrush, learned when she filed a Freedom of Information Act request to receive all complaints that the FCC had received about SNL going back to the start of 2023. She has since posted the full file to the public records platform MuckRock—and, well, there’s a common theme.
In January of 2023, Colin Jost joked on “Weekend Update” that while Joe Biden and Donald Trump were embroiled in very different classified document scandals, both “made Hillary Clinton want to blow her Goddamn brains out.”
A viewer from Cumming, Georgia, emailed the FCC:
“Please note watching Saturday Night Live 01/21-22/23 over the air on Wxia 11 Atlanta, Ga the ‘Gd’ term was used, and I am not ok with this to begin with.

Kelly Clarkson voiced her strong opposition to the recent Arizona Supreme Court abortion ruling reinstating a total ban from 1864 and described it as “insane” and a step backward for the country.
In an interview with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on her daytime talk show, Clarkson expressed her disbelief at the decision and emphasized the need for progress. “Did you ever think in your lifetime that we would see that happen? It’s just insane to me the thinking that went on in 1864 — it’s a very different world,” Clarkson said.
Clarkson’s remarks came in response to a ruling by Arizona’s Supreme Court, which reinstated an 1864 law that criminalizes abortions. The law allows for a minimal exception only when the life of a pregnant person is at risk. Clinton agreed and called the law “horrifying in every way.”
Clinton said, “I feared it would happen, but I hoped it wouldn’t happen.

Clinton was on to promote Suffs, the Broadway musical about the women’s suffrage movement in America, which the former secretary of state is involved in as a producer.
“Did you ever think in your lifetime we would see that happen?” Clarkson asked Clinton of what’s happening in Arizona. “It’s just insane to me, the thinking that went on in 1864. It’s a very different world. We know a lot more now. We are going backwards.”

“Where’s Melania” became a consistent question from the press for some months now; however, it looks like she’s allegedly had a change of heart where Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is concerned.
It seems that she’s now “all in” when it comes to his bid to once again become the next U.S. President, and according to one source, everyone will see her on the campaign trail a lot more.
A “Much Different” Melania Trump
Republican Party insiders revealed to Page Six that since the recent Florida fundraiser, a very different Melania Trump has arrived on the scene.
In fact, the inside source notes that Melania surfaced as the main star at the Republican fundraiser that took place at John Paulson’s $100-million Palm Beach house.
They note that her usual “serious” demeanor had vanished, and Melania seemingly never stopped smiling while being talkative and charming to all guests.

Producers of the upcoming musical comedy Ghost Of John McCain have responded to angry comments made by the late senator’s daughter Meghan McCain, saying that they will again extend an invitation to Meghan and husband Ben Domenech to attend a reading of the musical before it opens Off Broadway this fall.
“We think they will love it, just as audiences have to date,” said producers Jason Rose and Max Fose in a statement responding to tweets made by Meghan McCain earlier this week in which she called the musical – which she apparently has not seen – “trash” and “a gross cash grab by mediocre desperate people.”
As Deadline reported Tuesday, Ghost of John McCain, a musical comedy set inside the brain of Donald Trump, will make its world premiere Off Broadway this fall. The musical, written by Scott Elmegreen and Drew Fornarola and produced by a team that includes political...

Former President Bill Clinton plans to debut a memoir about his experiences after his presidency, with with publication date set for November 19.
In a statement, the former president said that the memoir, Citizen: My Life After the White House, “is the story of my twenty-three-plus years since leaving the White House, told largely through the stories of other people who changed my life as I tried to help change theirs, of those who supported me, including those I loved and lost, and of the mistakes I made along the way.”
Alfred A. Knopf will publish the memoir, which it says will be “remarkably candid” and “richly detailed.” While Clinton writes about major issues and cultural wars since he left office, the publisher also indicated that Clinton will share his experiences during the 2008 and 2016 elections, when his wife, Hillary Clinton, ran for the presidency. The talent behind the upcoming musical The Ghost of John McCain should not save a front row seat at its premiere for the late senator’s daughter Meghan McCain, as the former cohost of The View and outspoken pundit took to Twitter this week to denounce the forthcoming off-Broadway show, slam its producers and wish it has no success whatsoever.
On Wednesday, it was announced that the show is slated for a fall premiere at New York’s Soho Playhouse. The self-described “serious and satirical musical” was written by Scott Elmegreen with music and lyrics by Drew Fornarola, and its producers include political strategist Jason Rose and Max Fose, a former McCain campaign consultant.
“This is trash,” McCain wrote of the musical, adding that it’s, “Nothing more than a gross cash grab by mediocre desperate people…I hope it bombs.”

British Lord Justice Mark Warby denied former President Donald Trump’s request to appeal the dismissal of his case against Christopher Steele and his company, Orbis Business Intelligence, in a London court.
Steele is a former British spy who worked at the Russia desk for Britain’s secret intelligence service, formally known as MI6. His work on the so-called Steele Dossier alleged salacious details about Trump’s private life and suggested that he worked with Russia to influence the 2016 election.
The ex-president sought permission to appeal the judgment in his data privacy case. In February, Judge Karen Steyn ordered Trump to pay 300,000 British pounds to the Orbis Intelligence Business for their legal costs in bringing a frivolous lawsuit.
Steele told reporters, “We now look forward to receiving the interim payment from Donald Trump and a further costs award once the court has adjudicated the details.”

The co-hosts of The View had a lot to say about Hillary Clinton‘s recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The former secretary of state appeared on the talk show Monday evening and delivered a sternly worded message to those potential voters disaffected by the two leading candidates in the presidential race: incumbent President Joe Biden and embattled former President Donald Trump. “Get over yourself,” Clinton said. “These are the two choices.” Watch her appearance below. Clinton went on to make the case for her candidate of choice, Biden, by drawing a snap comparison of the two: “One is old and effective and compassionate, has a heart, and really cares about people. And one is old and has been charged with 91 felonies. I don’t understand why this is even a hard choice,” she said. Former Trump administration official Alyssa Farah Griffin, for one, wasn’t particularly...

She had also made history in 1968 becoming the first Black woman elected to the U.S. congress serving in the House of Representatives. The Democrat’s slogan in her first campaign was “Fighting Shirley-Unbought and Unbossed.” Serving in the House of Representatives until 1983, Chisholm introduced numerous pieces of legislation and was at the forefront of the fight for racial and gender equality and the plight of the poor. I thought I was safe to boldly pronounce my initial 2024 Tony Awards predictions, but then Sufjan Stevens appeared to stomp all over them. As David Buchanan and I convened to discuss where we thought the musical nominations were headed this season, news broke that Off-Broadway’s dreamy dance show “Illinoise” will transfer to the St. James Theatre just in time to compete at this year’s ceremony. The show, based on Stevens’ seminal album, has thrown our Tony predictions into disarray. Watch our full video slugfest above.
“Illinoise” marks the 15th new musical of the 2023-2024 season. That’s more new tuners than any Broadway season since 1975-1976. Theatergoers this year are indeed spoiled with a glut of new shows, but predicting the coveted Best Musical category has become a titanic task.

Max’s political dramedy The Girls on the Bus is less about the commonly depicted cutthroat world of politics and more about the unique friendships that can be cultivated in such a high-pressure environment along the way.
The series, based on journalist Amy Chozick’s 2018 memoir Chasing Hillary, follows four female journalists — played by Melissa Benoist, Carla Gugino, Christina Elmore and Natasha Behnam— as they cover the successes and scandals of the presidential primary while on the campaign trail. Though each of the women come from different backgrounds and harbors different opinions from each other on controversial topics and are sometimes in direct competition with each other, they nevertheless find themselves foraging a bond during their travels.
The title of the series, which comes from a singular chapter in Chozick’s book, is a nod to Timothy Crouse’s 1973 book, The Boys on the Bus, which detailed life on the...

Christopher Nolan has been the recent recipient of the Oscar for Best Director and Best Picture for last year’s war biopic Oppenheimer. The film had a dream run during awards season this year, winning the top awards at the ceremony. However, this was Nolan’s second nomination as a director, with his first coming a few years ago for the war drama Dunkirk.
The World War II drama about the evacuation of British soldiers from Dunkirk Beach lost the Best Director Award to Guillermo Del Toro, who won for Shape of Water. Back then, Nolan had reportedly been hopeless about the ceremony and blamed Harvey Weinstein’s aggressive Oscar campaign for Shakespeare in Love for ruining the Oscars.

Don’t hold your breath, but Jimmy Kimmel hasn’t closed the door to having former president Donald Trump on his show.
The late-night comic has been one of Trump’s most visible critics, and has frequently drawn the ire of the former president, who once called him a “wacko last-place loser.”
Still, asked by CNN in an interview published Friday whether he’d welcome Trump back as a guest on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel replied “I would absolutely have him on the show.”
He went on to say of Trump, “there are a lot of questions I would like to ask him, and I would like to get actual answers. I think most of the interviews that he does don’t require those.”
It wouldn’t be Trump’s first time on the show. He appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! four times before he was president, most recently in...

The office of Former First Lady Michelle Obama has declared that she has no plans to run for president in this year’s election.
On March 5, Obama’s office ended talks of her possible run for president in a bid to silence frequent speculation and wishful thinking about her taking the Democratic nomination from President Joe Biden.
“As former first lady Michelle Obama has expressed several times over the years, she will not be running for president,” Crystal Carson, the communications director of the former first lady’s office, declared in a statement. “Mrs. Obama supports President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris‘ re-election campaign.”
This statement comes after Republicans like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia), Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy publicly encouraged the idea that Obama could replace Biden on the ballot.
Many Republicans and conservative commentators fueled speculation that Obama could come in at the last minute,...

President Joe Biden is on track to be the Democratic nominee in November — but the results in Tuesday’s primaries indicate he has a growing political problem on his left. The protest movement that started in Michigan, to oppose Biden’s support for Israel’s brutal war in Gaza, is spreading.
Following Michigan’s lead last week, activists quickly organized in the 15 states holding primaries on Super Tuesday, based on those states’ ballot language. As of 1 p.m. Et Wednesday, CNN election data showed 19 percent of voters in Minnesota had...

Oscar nominations were announced in Los Angeles at 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 23. The backlash began by sunrise. Barbie received eight nominations, including for best picture, but where were individual nods for director Greta Gerwig or star Margot Robbie, the A-list architects who constructed a billion-dollar blockbuster out of an $18 plastic doll that was born in 1959? Barbie fans went berserk online, denouncing the Academy for what they saw as a sexist snub. Breathless press coverage of the controversy dominated the news cycle for days, and even Hillary Clinton weighed in to support her shunned sisters.
By Jan. 26, producer Lynda Obst had heard enough. “I have to write about this misplaced horror,” Obst unloaded on Facebook, offering a history lesson pulled from personal experience, reminding her readers that comedies rarely fare well at the Academy Awards in top categories. Furthermore, she and best friend Nora Ephron “didn’t flip out” when...
