With all due respect to the vampire western Near Dark and the coolness of The Lost Boys, my favorite ’80s vampire flick is pretty easily Fright Night (watch it Here). It has a way about it that is just unmatched. It’s able to mix the ’80s setting, think Jerry in the club hypnotizing Amy, with both a modern and classic feel. Its almost the evolutionary step of what Hammer films would have turned into had they not folded. Its certainly beloved enough with it’s own documentary and a sequel, remake, and sequel to that remake. That’s what I wanted to talk about today. While Near Dark got no sequel, probably for the best, and The Lost Boys got multiple awful sequels,...

Southland is one of the best cop shows currently on television. It is now in its third season airing on TNT after NBC foolishly cancelled it after only a few episodes. I have to admit, when it first aired on NBC, I was taken aback by the grittiness of the show and all the bleeps that are needed because of the language used. Now, I am so glad it was given a second chance, and I realize that the same grittiness and language are part of what makes the show unique and real. However, the best part of the show are the characters. For those of you who do not watch the show there are some spoilers in the below article.
Southland follows different levels of police working the streets of Los Angeles. The first set of cops are the patrol cops, lead by the team of the "rookie" officer...

2010 Best Actor Academy Award-winner Jeff Bridges.
Editor’s Note: Congratulations to Jeff Bridges for finally getting his props with last night's win for "Crazy Heart"! He's now officially lost the title of "Most Underrated Actor of His Generation." In the spirit of Jeff's victory, we at The Interview thought it appropriate to share this article, which originally appeared in the July 1999 issue of Venice Magazine. Enjoy, and well-done, Jeff!

Jeff Bridges is arguably the most underrated great American actor since the late Robert Ryan. A performer of incredible range, whose myriad of characterizations over the past 30 years leave the filmgoer with a continued sense of awe and admiration, Bridges' refusal to fit a mold on-screen might be the very thing that has kept him from becoming a conventional movie star. It's also the thing that has kept his work so fascinating, and so brilliant.

Supporting good-guy roles in horror movies are notoriously thankless: you generally get to hang around and make wisecracks until it's your turn to kick it so that the actual heroes can live to fight another day. The biggest surprise in The Crazies, Breck Eisner's remake of the 1973 low-budget classic by George A. Romero, is that its highlight turns out to be not the murderous pseudo-zombies or Eisner's many horror set pieces, but the dude who plays the affable sheriff's deputy. The movie isn't actually bad, per se, just been-there-done-that tiresome in a way that makes the 101-minute running time seem quite a bit longer. What almost saves it is a surprising attention to detail, much of which is embodied in Joe Anderson's unexpectedly touching performance as the unassuming -- but increasingly crucial -- Deputy Russell Clark.
To this point, Anderson hadn't made much of an impression in his short career.

Based on the 1973 George Romero movie by the same name, the 2010 version of The Crazies, adapted by screenwriters Ray Wright and Scott Kosar, strips away the social and political aspects that were rampant in the original. Nowadays moviegoers don't need much convincing to believe that the military could seize a town and cover up bioweapons. Director Breck Eisner seems to pride himself on using as little exposition as possible to keep the plot cruising along. The result is a rollercoaster ride, as building tensions keep viewers on the edge of their seats and then out of them when the insanity and horror takes over.
The basic plot of The Crazies remains: Residents of the small Iowan town of Ogden Marsh are suddenly plagued by insanity and death after their water supply is contaminated. When the town drunk Rory Hamill (Mike Hickman) shows up to a high school baseball game with a rifle,...

The Crazies
Directed by: Breck Eisner
Cast: Timothy Olyphant, Radha Mitchell, Joe Anderson
Running Time: 2 hrs 5 min
Rating: R
Release Date: February 26, 2010
Plot: A chemical used for biochemical warfare is inadvertently released into the water supply of a small, Aw-Shucks Iowa town and the afflicted go batty.
Who’S It For? I’d say if you like horror or disaster movies, Or you’re a conspiracy theorist who’s sure the government is made up of secretive psychopaths, you’ll dig The Crazies.
Expectations: I thought I’d have fun with it, because I like the premise and I like the actors.
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Timothy Olyphant as David Dutton: Who knows if I’d like Timothy Olyphant so darned much if he weren’t so purty. He’s long and lean and slightly crazy-eyed, but it all adds to his charm. It’s difficult to believe that someone who...

Created by Ann Biderman, who won an Emmy for NYPD Blue, and produced by ER’s John Wells, Southland has all the earmarks of a potentially great drama with engaging characters, intense and dramatic situations and storylines and enough police action and procedure to satisfy even the most devout cop show fan. Originally produced and broadcast in a limited run on NBC, the show was scheduled to return late last year. Inexplicably, NBC canceled the show and TNT decided to pick it up. I, for one, am glad they did.
In the deal, TNT will rebroadcast all the original 7 episodes that aired on NBC and then the remaining completed ones that NBC never showed. TNT will see how the rating do for the show to determine if they will order any more episodes. In the meantime, the original pilot airs tonight.

(S05E09) Every episode of The Closer is a puzzle of sorts, and this one surely qualified, especially since it began in court with the case already decided. All that remained was the formality of Russell Clark -- guest star Bruce Davison -- elocuting to the judge. Well, not so fast. There were a few hiccups requiring Brenda's immediate attention.
The moment Cynthia Watros showed up as the victim's widow, anxious to reclaim her husband's belongings from the crime scene, suspicions were raised. But first Brenda had to figure out why Russell Clark had confessed to the crime, if he was covering for his schizophrenic son, James -- if James was capable of the murder in the first place, and then there was the question of what to do with Mama. Yes, Willy Ray was there, along with Fritz and Charlene, Brenda's niece.

Chicago – Premiere episodes of ensemble shows like NBC’s nearly-great “Southland” can be a tough nut to crack. How do you interested viewers in a dozen characters in 44 minutes, give them a resolved plot in that same window of time, and intrigue them enough to come back next week? “Southland” expertly does all three. It’s the best new show of 2009.
Television Rating: 4.0/5.0 The saddest thing I thought while watching “Southland” was that it doesn’t feel like an NBC show. The network that was once so vital to the television dramatic writing picture with shows like “St. Elsewhere,” “L.A. Law,” and “ER” has completely fallen behind the pace, giving five hours of primetime a week to Jay Leno this fall.
