I may be ready to give up on Nic Cage after this movie if I’m honest. Actually, that may be a tad harsh because I do feel like he is doing his best with the half-baked mindless script he was given. Cage as Dracula alone was the selling point of Renfield and as I would come to find out, Cage is not even in the damn film all that much!
I realise that I’m not exactly burying the lead here in terms of how I felt about Renfield but don’t worry because it’s not all bad. Let’s jump into it….
Renfield is not exactly reinventing the wheel here in as much as the story revolves around...

Nicolas Cage has been in just about every kind of film you can think of, and he’s played just about every kind of character you can think of. One of his best, most famous, and over-the-top parts is in 1988s Vampire’s Kiss, where Nic Cage plays a publishing executive convinced he’s turning into a bloodsucking vampire. Now, more than 30 years later, not only is Nic Cage playing a vampire, he’s playing the lord of vampires, the prince of darkness, Count Dracula. It’s a role Cage seemed destined to play, after all, his uncle Francis Ford Coppola directed the 1992 film Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Now Nic Cage gets to shine as that title character, and it’s a performance worthy of a better film.

There have been so many variations and film versions of Bram Stoker’s classic Dracula, from 1926’s Nosferatu to Tod Browning’s 1931 Dracula to Francis Coppola’s well-regarded take with Gary Oldman to even comedic satires like Love at First Bite with George Hamilton taking on the role. Now in Universal’s latest effort to rescue its horror classics and make them new again, we have the perfectly cast Nicolas Cage as the Prince of Darkness. Even he has done an offshoot before, in 1988’s Vampire’s Kiss. However this time around the film is not centered on Dracula himself, but rather his beleaguered servant, henchman, whatever you choose to call him, Renfield, and it is another Nicholas, as in Hoult, who has the title role this time in Renfield. Cage’s part, though meaty, is actually supporting as the emphasis turns to the long-suffering assistant who was tasked with bringing...

Perth, Australia-based production company Legend Media is preparing a slate of three feature films to be produced with partners in China.
The company styles itself as one that recognizes the opportunities for Asian engagement that have fallen to Australia, through geography, trade and culture. The company aims to make use of the bilateral film co-production treaty that came into effect in December 2008 between Australia and China and has been used on average by nearly one film per year.
Operations are headed by Camille Chen, a writer-director-producer with relevant co-production (“Little Sparrows”). The company is backed by mining executive Bronwen Barnes, property developer Paul Lakey, and banking and property executive Darren Cooper.
First up, and aiming to shoot from late January 2020, is “Outback Dragon,” an action-adventure-comedy in the vein of “Lost In Thailand” and “Chinatown Detective,” that is set in gold mining territory around Kalgoorlie, and in Chinese mega-city Shenzhen. Lead...

Derek Waters loves TV history — so much so that he even keeps a collection of old TV Guide magazines at home. As the co-creator and host of Comedy Central’s Emmy-nominated “Drunk History,” it’s perhaps no surprise that Waters reveres classic TV — particularly from his childhood era of the 1980s.
But here’s where he draws the line at nostalgia: Reboots and remakes.
“I hope some day, I’m alive to see some sort of law passed where something, be it ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ once a show or movie [has been given] some sort of accolade, it can be shut,” Waters told Variety‘s “My Favorite Episode” podcast. “You’re not allowed to touch this. Leave it alone.”
Waters’ suggestion: Just re-release a DVD of the original instead. “Don’t change it,” he added. “I’m trying to think of one thing where I’m so glad they rebooted that, and...

"You are the world's greatest singer/songwriter!" Universal has finally unveiled the first official trailer for the new movie directed by Danny Boyle, officially titled Yesterday - formerly known as All You Need Is Love. From writer Richard Curtis, the original concept for this movie is crazy - one day everyone wakes up and the entire world has never heard of The Beatles. Except for one guy. Who becomes famous for singing/playing all the classic Beatles songs, because no one knows that it isn't him who came up with all of this genius work. As wild as that seems, only Danny Boyle could pull that off and he seems to have done that. Himesh Patel (from "EastEnders" and "Damned") stars in Yesterday, along with Lily James, Kate McKinnon, Ed Sheeran, Ana de Armas, Joel Fry, and Camille Chen. This looks as amusing and enjoyable as I hoped, and I can't wait to see it.

In the same week where we learned that Abigail Spencer will lead Joss Whedon‘s next, THR informs us that the actress’ screenplay, Wrong Number, is gaining its own momentum. They’ve got a cast — Andrew Leeds, Matt Gould, Griffin Matthews, Camille Chen, and Eric Roberts, in this case — and director, Anne Rose King, all ready to go; getting James Franco on board as a producer is playing in the big leagues, though. And, as it turns out, Number is the first project in a six-picture deal between Victorino Noval Productions, Edward Bass Films and Franco‘s Rabbit Bandini Productions; Spencer will also be on board as a producer.
As they tell us, the romantic comedy centers on “two people who ‘meet’ on a wrong number phone call at a pivotal moment in their lives.” Our two leads are “a wife dealing with the loss of her father and the stranger she pursues,...

Ray (Laurence Fishburne) still having to battle his demons with Haskell (Bill Irwin) being on the loose. News reports of Haskell's escape and Ray doesn't want Brass (Paul Guilfoyle) turning off the TV due to him. Brass can't report there have been any sightings of him. Ray explains Haskell isn't any ordinary criminal and so the search for him, that should be manhunt, should also be different. Ray: "Until he makes a mistake, we just satisfy ourselves picking up bodies." Well, like it or not, it's what they do; unfortunately. A man presumed a Db is picked up and brought to autopsy. Before David (David Berman) can cut him open, he gets up and walks out of the morgue. David faints. Lucky for the Db, David got a call otherwise he'd be cut open; but he turns out to be not so luck after all. CSI delving into zombies for the twenty-first century.

When Filmink last spoke to Camille Chen in December 2009, the West Australian director was just about to commence shooting her debut feature film, Little Sparrows (formerly titled Façade). Six months later, Chen's film has wrapped and was recently selected to screen at the Sydney Film Festival as part of the ‘Love Me' pathway with Festival Director Clare Stewart describing the film as "beautifully nuanced." Little Sparrows traces the emotional lives of three sisters whose mother Susan (Nicola Bartlett) is dying of breast cancer. A Christmas lunch in the middle of an Australian summer is the pivotal event around which the film's elliptical structure revolves, shifting between the interior journeys of the three daughters and Susan's own reconciliation with the life she has lived and her impending death.

omedy is still the king genre of web video. And fittingly there are dozens of sites vying to be the web's go-to hubs for comedy—Funny or Die, Atom.com, My Damn Channel, Comedy.com—but that doesn't mean the broader web series hubs aren't up for some jocularity of their own. Sony's Crackle.com has had its share of original comedies over the past year, most recently bowing Jon Heder led Woke Up Dead, not to mention earlier jabs like David Faustino's Star-ving. But in an effort to bolster their comedy wares, Crackle rolled out its latest push today with the launch of a video slate dubbed "Last Call for Comedy." The package contains just two new original web series—Decisions, Decisions and So On and So Forth—alongside the online debut of the first two seasons of TBS comedy 10 Items or Less and some cult comedy films...
