Why do we find murder mysteries so uniquely relaxing? This is one of the age-old questions about human nature, up there with ‘what is consciousness?’ and ‘why do we keep eating mouldy cheese and fish eggs like it’s a good thing?’ Because, despite the grief and blood and mountains of paperwork that a gruesome murder causes, we simply can’t get enough of curling up on the sofa with a mug of tea and a cosy crime drama to keep us blissfully entertained all the way through to bedtime.
This isn’t a new thing, either: while modern series like Death in Paradise and Shakespeare and Hathaway are the current champions of cosy crime TV, back in the eighties and nineties classics like Murder She Wrote and Hetty Wainthropp Investigates taught us how it’s done. So whether you’re after the latest in the cosy crime genre or some more nostalgic viewing,...

If someone told you, "Your mom should have killed you when you came out of the womb" -- would you consider those "fighting words?" Ex-NBA star Tom Chambers certainly did -- admitting he got physical with a trash-talking 22-year-old at an Arizona bar ... and now he's been charged with assault. It all stems from an April 15 incident at Isabella's Kitchen in Scottsdale -- where Tom says he was innocently hanging out when another patron started insulting him.

After all the excitement about the Strictly Come Dancing launch last weekend, we've now got to wait a couple of weeks to discover who can dance and who can... waddle around a floor, badly (We're looking at you, Gregg Wallace).
In the meantime, we've had the ultimate Strictly pub debate - yes, we talk about Strictly in the pub - who is the greatest champion of all time. Here is the Definitive* ranking of the 11 Glitterball Champions from Worst to the Best.
*Actually just our opinion.
11. Chris Hollins
You can't win Strictly Come Dancing and be a bad dancer. However, Chris Hollins would have struggled to reach the final in any other series and it was only really his partnership with Ola 'Chops' Jordan and the dull competition that allowed him to stroll (or should that be Charleston?) to victory.
10. Tom Chambers
Were Tom Chambers and Camilla Dallerup the best dancers in 2008? Probably not.

Former Holby City star Tom Chambers has claimed that he was turned down for a part in Downton Abbey because he wasn't posh enough.
The actor, who won Strictly Come Dancing in 2008, revealed he auditioned to be Lady Mary Crawley's (Michelle Dockery) love interest but was turned down.
Speaking to What's On TV, he said: I was told I didn't have enough blue blood in me to join the series. It was disappointing but you have to be thick-skinned when things don't come your way."
Chambers, who is now starring in BBC drama Father Brown, said: "If I had got the job, I wouldn't have been able to do this, so it wasn't so bad in the end. I'm delighted to be joining such an exciting series."
Downton Abbey's fourth series begins on ITV in the autumn. It will air in the Us on PBS in the New Year.

It's time to 'put on your top hat and brush off your tails' 77 years after Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers lit up Hollywood's silver screen with one of the greatest dance musicals of all time, Rko Pictures' Top Hat is now on in London's West End! Judging by the sensational reviews, standing ovations and sold out theatres around the country on its pre-London tour, it has been well worth the wait. Tom Chambers (Holby City heartthrob and Strictly Come Dancing winner) plays the irrepressible Broadway sensation Jerry Travers who dances his way across Europe to win the heart of society model Dale Tremont, played by triple Olivier Award nominee Summer Strallen (Love Never Dies, The Sound of Music, The Drowsy Chaperone). Packed full of Irving Berlin's greatest hits, such as Let's Face the Music and Dance, Cheek to Cheek, Puttin' (more)...

Former Strictly Come Dancing winner Tom Chambers has claimed that some aspects of the dancing competition are fake. The actor, who won the show in 2008, admitted that the contestants pretend to be friends for the camera and are encouraged to constantly smile on-air to please viewers. He told The Sun: "When you appear on Strictly Come Dancing everything feels so fake. They tell you that you have to keep smiling the whole time when everyone's talking to Tess [Daly] after they've performed. "The producers would say that if you look grumpy in the background people might vote you off for looking like you're not loving it all as much as you should. Everyone on Strictly (more)...

Strictly Come Dancing's producers have confirmed two Friday shows and a new points system for the seventh series. The celebrity ballroom dancing show returns next month and will include an episode on Friday night for the first two weeks. Earlier this month, it was confirmed that the Sunday results show will not be happening this year. The 16 celebrities and their professional partners will be split into two groups for the first two episodes, but not into men and women as in previous series. Meanwhile, the BBC's controller of entertainment Commissioning Mark Linsey also announced a new points scoring system to avoid the confusion of the 2008 series. During last year's semi-final, a tie between Rachel Stevens and Lisa Snowdon meant that votes cast to save Holby City's Tom Chambers were effectively irrelevant.
