10 TV Shows That Fans Only Like Because They Watched Them as a Kid
Image
Children's TV can be easy nostalgia bait for adults reminiscing about the joyful days of childhood. Many children's shows appeal to kids and adults, creating lasting enjoyment for each generation, but some shows aren't so positively reflected upon. Whether harboring an overwhelmingly childish aesthetic, annoying characters, or a particularly juvenile sense of humor, some shows are unlikely to be liked by parents watching with their kids.

Many of these shows have problematic connotations, whether due to outdated storylines or behind-the-scenes drama. There are bound to be a few episodes, especially from older shows that may not have aged well, but some shows consistently portray topics and themes with poor execution, leaving an impact on their legacy and their audience.

Breadwinners Was Canceled After Two Seasons Many Wonder What Happened to This Hyper-Energetic Show

This short-lived Nickelodeon cartoon follows two ducks, SwaySway and Buhdeuce hailing from a duck-populated planet, Pondgea as they deliver bread to customers.

‘The Zombie Wedding’ Brings Undead Romance to VOD and Select Cinemas
Image
Freestyle Digital Media is gearing up to release the horror-comedy The Zombie Wedding, a unique blend of romance and the undead. Set to debut on Cable and Digital VOD platforms including Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play, and more on 13th September 2024, the film will also play in select theatres across the US. It’s the first feature film from Weekly World News Studios, launching their IP-driven slate of movie projects.

The concept of The Zombie Wedding is as quirky as it sounds: a young New Jersey couple chooses to go ahead with their nuptials amidst a full-blown zombie apocalypse. What makes the story even more unconventional? The groom is already a zombie, while the bride is still human. As the day approaches, tensions rise not just between the undead and the living, but also between their two vastly different families.

Adapted from an interactive play of the same name, The Zombie Wedding...

Outfest: Creators Of ‘Cock N’ Bull 3’ On Their Outrageous Airborne Comedy: “The Gay Disaster Movie You Didn’t Know You Needed”
Image
If a crisis erupts on board a commercial aircraft, you want to know the flight attendants are prepared to handle any desperate situation. Chris, Wes, and Clear, the cabin crew in the comedic short Cock N’ Bull 3, are not those guys. They’re more likely to be the cause of an emergency than the ones resolving it.

Wes (Danny Rhodes) provides a running stream of non-faa approved commentary over the Pa system. Chris (Nathan Adloff) locks eyes with an older man within minutes of takeoff. Later, he tumbles out of the forward lavatory with his shirt off, apparently having just joined the Mile High Club with his gentleman friend. Clear (Pete Zias) declares, “I wanna get fucked in there!”

Things only get more chaotic on the ill-fated red eye from L.A. to New York, after the pilot mysteriously becomes incapacitated. Cock N’ Bull 3, directed by Adloff and co-written by Adloff and Rhodes,...

TikTok Enters The Emmy Race: Here’s How ‘Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical’ Is Mounting an FYC Campaign
Image
I’m sure when you first heard that TikTok was entering the Emmy race, you wondered, “Wait — is that guy drinking Ocean Spray cranberry juice while skating down the highway and grooving to Fleetwood Mac even eligible?” Well, no. But viral hit “Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical” has been given the green light to submit, and now TikTok is aiming to join YouTube, Facebook, Snapchat and other social media outlets that have entered the awards competition once just reserved for good ol’ fashioned television.

“Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical” began life as a video by user Emily Jacobsen, who performed an ode to Remy the rat from the animated Disney film. Soon, other TikTok users joined in — most notably, Daniel Mertzlufft, who gave Jacobson’s song the full Alan Menken treatment, complete with orchestra score and 20 vocalists. As this started to become a phenomenon on the platform with hundreds of millions of views,...

Tituss Burgess at an event for Dolemite Is My Name (2019)
What began as a “hey, kids, let’s put on a show!” by some ambitious TikTok users grew into a million-dollar fundraiser, kicking off 2021 with some much-needed cheer. Yes, “Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical” made us all forget about the headache-inducing year that passed and put a smile on our faces (even if for only a few minutes). Here’s a look at the stellar cast of the virtual concert and the animated counterparts they played in the 2007 Pixar film.

Tituss Burgess as Remy, an average rat with very big dreams of becoming a chef. Patton Oswald voiced him in the film.

Andrew Barth Feldman as Alfredo Linguini, a young man who failed as a cook and is as kindhearted as he is clumsy. Lou Romano voiced him in the film.

‘Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical’: How Broadway Cooked Up The Perfect Appetizer For A New Year That Can’t Start Soon Enough
Image
When Broadway producer Greg Nobile heard Gayle King singing the words to “Ode To Remy” on The Morning Show some weeks ago, he knew a sort of leap had been taken. “I thought this thing that started online has not only become pop culture,” he recalls, “it’s become, like, culture culture.”

“This thing,” of course, is what’s now called Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical, perhaps the first, or at least most widely seen, crowdsourced Broadway-style musical ever. By now just about everyone knows the story of how one woman’s single, simple off-the-cuff little love song to a rat went viral and inspired other, increasingly elaborate musical numbers based on the 2007 Disney-Pixar computer-animated film Ratatouille.

But how the viral sensation made its way to the virtual, 45-minute one-time-only “Broadway” staging – complete with an all-star cast is, in its way, equally as implausible and certainly as undeniable. Even Disney, ever...

“Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman Whoop It Up In This Fun Musical The Prom” – Subhash K Jha

The Prom (Netflix)

Starring: Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman, Keegan-Michael Key, Andrew Rannells, Ariana DeBose, Tracey Ullman, Kevin Chamberlin, Mary Kay Place, Kerry Washington, Jo Ellen Pellman.

Directed by Ryan Murphy

I’d wade through waist-deep slush to see a dream cast like this. Luckily I had to do no such thing, as The Prom , with all its glorious pomp and surrender, arrived at my doorstep. A full-blown musical where everyone speaks in shrill excitement and every frame is punctuated by an exclamation, this is an old-fashioned musical with a new-age twist.

And the cast helmed by the one-and-only Meryl Streep digs its high heels deep into the funscape about bunch of on-the-skids Broadway stars who look for a ‘cause’ to ignite their flickering career. The ‘cause they choose is Emma (Jo Ellen Pellman) a fresh-faced dewy-eyes highschool ingenue in a small town who is not allowed to participate...

There's a fine line when it comes to straight actors playing LGBTQ+ roles. When it's an important public or historical figure, there's no question they should be portrayed by someone from the LGBTQ+ community. When it's a fictional role like Barry Glickman from The Prom, there's more of a gray area. That said, James Corden should not have been cast as Barry in Netflix's adaptation of the Broadway musical due to his over-the-top and, at times, offensive portrayal.

While The Prom features a heartwarming story about a girl just wanting to take her girlfriend to prom with the help of a few down-and-out Broadway actors, Corden's casting taints the message it's trying to say.

The issue with Corden's casting isn't his talent level; he's a Tony Award-winning actor who can sing and act. The issue is that Corden takes the role of Barry, who is...

Ryan Murphy's The Prom Trailer Brings the Broadway Smash to Netflix This Holiday Season
Image
Netflix has released the trailer for their upcoming musical The Prom. The movie is based on the Tony-nominated Broadway musical of the same name. American Horror Story mastermind Ryan Murphy produced and directed the upcoming musical, which premieres December 11th, exclusively on Netflix. Before that, The Prom will open up in select theaters across North America. Much like Broadway, movie theaters and music venues are still largely closed as the public health crisis continues. Thankfully, Netflix is bringing the musical to homes all over the world, ensuring that viewers won't have to leave the house.

The Prom takes place as Dee Dee Allen (three-time Academy Award winner Meryl Streep) and Barry Glickman (Tony Award winner James Corden) face a major problem. The two are New York City stage stars with a crisis on their hands: their expensive new Broadway show is a major flop that has suddenly flatlined their careers.

The TikTokers Who Cooked Up the Ratatouille Musical Talk Us Through Their Viral Moment
Image
"Remy the Ratatouille, the rat of all my dreams." That line has been stuck in my head for weeks as I've scrolled through my TikTok feed, increasingly stumbling upon clips of a Pixar-themed crowdsourced collaboration. Yes, Ratatouille, the Musical is very much a thing online right now (it was even acknowledged by Disney's official accounts) and I had the chance to chat with the two people who started it all.

It all begins with Emily Jacobsen, a 26-year-old teacher with a talent for creating songs inspired by animated characters. She told Popsugar she was "deep into quarantine" in August when she read an article about the Ratatouille attraction coming to Walt Disney World. As a huge Disney fan, the news stuck with her and she found herself humming a song about Remy, the rat with a penchant for cooking. "I thought this [video] was pretty funny and pretty catchy," she said.

‘Little Shop Of Horrors’ Review: Campy Classic Devours Pasadena Playhouse With Soul, Heart And Inclusivity
Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, Tichina Arnold, Tisha Campbell, Vincent Gardenia, Ellen Greene, Levi Stubbs, and Michelle Weeks in La petite boutique des horreurs (1986)
The original production of Little Shop of Horrors first debuted Off-Off-Broadway in 1982 and then suddenly Seymour and company made their way to the Orpheum Theater for an Off-Broadway production that ran for five years. A hybrid of sci-fi and comedy, the musical about a carnivorous plant looking to take over the world became a cult classic spawning numerous productions and had a film adaptation starring Rick Moranis and Ellen Greene in 1986. After almost four decades, it has still retained its cult status with its R&b flair and irreverent, yet earnest lyrics and the new production at the Pasadena Playhouse continues the tradition with a fresh, inclusive iteration of the musical favorite.

The genre-driven musical comedy with music by Alan Menken and book and lyrics by the late, great Howard Ashman still feeds the soul with camp, humor, heart and its subversive charm. The Pasadena Playhouse production may just be a cast of eight,...
