You don’t have to throw out Little Feat to make room for Fleet Foxes
Google “ways to discover new music” and no less than 89,800,000 results pop up. Tons of websites, blogs, radio stations broadcasting the old-fashioned way and streamlining online, not to mention music sites like Spotify and Radio Paradise are dedicated to the proposition that all people deserve to discover new tunes.
So why are so many of our needles stuck in the “classic rock” groove, playing the same albums since 1992 -- or 1968? Not that there’s anything wrong with continuing to cherish the music we grew up with. For our generation, it would be hard not to: Some of the most enduring music (at least rock, soul, jazz and blues) was made when we were coming of age. But what I find frustrating is the misbegotten mindset that nothing new is worth listening to.

The awards celebrate not just the year’s best performances on the big screen, but also those on television, and some of the biggest and best TV shows have deservedly earned their places in the nominations below.
Modern Family, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, and The Office continue to dominate the comedy categories. And joining them in the drama nominations are naturally Breaking Bad, Homeland, Mad Men, Downton Abbey, Boardwalk Empire, and The Newsroom.

Silver Linings Playbook star Chris Tucker, once the world's highest paid actor, talks about what drew him to acting and why he's back after a five-year break
Chris Tucker is an actor who will for ever be associated with one, salient fact. Specifically: that he was, for a brief moment, the highest paid actor in the world. This was for Rush Hour 3, the third, but possibly not final instalment in the big-grossing action franchise of the 90s for which he was paid $25m (£15.75m). The film proved him to be, arguably, the greatest physical comedian of his generation and, inarguably, its best remunerated.
After watching his hyper-animated, bug-eyed, wisecracking, body-popping turns as Lapd Detective James Carter – foil to Jackie Chan's self-contained police inspector Lee – it is hard to believe this subdued, polite guy in black shirt and suit, speaking softly at a hotel suite conference table, is the same person.

This weekend, Chris Tucker has a new movie coming out. And for the first time since 1997, it doesn't have the words "rush" or "hour" in the title. It's also his first movie in five years. Not that Tucker is complaining. As the actor explained, he was just being patient, searching for roles that didn't have him playing the same fast-talking characters audiences know him for (see: Smokey in "Friday" and Ruby Rhod in "The Fifth Element"). Lo and behold, Tucker seems to have finally found a different part in "The Silver Linings Playbook." Here, he plays Danny, a patient at a mental institution who becomes a friend and mentor to Pat (Bradley Cooper), a man attempting to get his life back on track after he catches his wife having an affair. Although the role is small, Tucker appears to have gotten what he was looking for in both Danny and...

Well if you hadn't really heard of Homeland prior to this weekend, you probably have by now. The Showtime series pulled off a major upset at the 64th Annual Emmy Awards last night, winning a large chunk of the major awards in the Drama category over favourites like Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire and Game of Thrones. Claire Danes and Damian Lewis both took home awards for Lead Actress and Actor in a Drama Series, while the show also broke Mad Men's four-year win streak for Outstanding Drama Series. Elsewhere, Aaron Paul won his second Emmy for his supporting performance as Jesse Pinkman on Breaking Bad, while Julia Louis-Dreyfus won Best Lead Actress in a Comedy for Veep. Modern Family still took the Outstanding Comedy Series, however, while the HBO movie Game Change took the Outstanding Mini-Series or TV Movie. Kevin Costner did manage to pick up some...

On Sunday, Giancarlo Esposito will face off against his Breaking Bad brother, Aaron Paul, two Downton dudes (Brendan Coyle, Jim Carter) a dearly departed Mad man (Jared Harris) and last year's winner, Peter Dinklage, in the Best Supporting Actor in a Drama category at the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards. And odds are on the first-time nominee to also become a first-time winner for his career-making performance as Gus Fring.
But Esposito has more than one reason to celebrate this week as his new series, Revolution, premiered to NBC's best premiere ratings in five years on Monday! ETonline sat down with the 54-year-old actor to find out what winning an Emmy would mean to him, why Gus Fring almost never existed and what you can expect next from Revolution!

Rush Hour 4 is reportedly in the works with Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker likely to reprise their roles as mismatched cops Lee and James Carter. Producer Arthur Sarkissian told Crave that he is hoping to bring in a pair of new characters to reinvigorate the franchise. "I am working on Rush Hour 4 right now with Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan," he said. "I'm trying to do it closer to how I did Rush Hour 1, more down to earth, more gritty, introduce two new characters and make it real the way the first one was. "I personally was not happy with the third one. I thought 1 and 2 were very good. I think 3 got out of hand a little bit. It's not a matter of just bringing them back to do another segment of that or a sequel to it by putting them in another city and having them bicker. I don't want that.

Radio specialist agency Eardrum has broadened its offering to include digital services.
The agency has picked up four clients with integrated campaigns since January offering digital design, which can also be carried into print, as well as social and Seo services.
Ralph van Dijk, Eardrum’s founding creative director told Mumbrella:
“From our perspective it’s campaign optimisation. In the past we’ve been a component of the campaign but more and more our clients have been focusing on radio with online. It was been frustrating to have our ads drive a consumer to a website that was substandard.”
Van Dijk said that radio is maintained as the lead medium with everything else integrated.
The agency’s founding client was the Commonwealth government department, Deewr, the department of education, employment and workplace relations, with a campaign for youth allowance.

It’s that time of year again! This morning, the nominees for the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards were announced. You can’t argue with some of the nominees (Mad Men, anyone?), but others — why not? Here is a category-by-category look at who made the cut, along with one show or person that I wish had been included instead of one of them! (You can also read Scott’s take here.)
Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series
This year’s nominees: Mayim Bialik (The Big Bang Theory), Kathryn Josten (Desperate Housewives), Julie Bowen (Modern Family), Sofia Vergara (Modern Family), Merritt Wever (Nurse Jackie), Kristen Wiig (Saturday Night Live)
My dream nominee: Eden Sher (The Middle)
Sher’s performance is one of the best on TV right now that virtually nobody is talking about. As Sue, she gives a different take on being a teenage girl than we’re accustomed to seeing.

We get a personal kick out of using the word "perfect" in this title because we know how the sub culture of the mask collecting world can be. Some are probably rolling their eyes and laughing before they even read this. And rightfully so, one person's favorite may be another person's least liked. That is the variety of life. HorrorBid's roots run deep in the collecting community and there isn't a more hardcore, rabid group of fans than the Michael Myers mask crowd...

For the last three days, I’ve been trying to come up with something really incisive and intelligent to say about Rush Hour, and I can’t (which isn’t to say that nobody could; I’d be curious to hear what Jeff Chang had to say about it). That’s not to say that I think it’s a bad movie, because I don’t, but when the end credits roll, it’s hard to think of any unanswered questions that the film left hanging, except for one: is it still entertaining after twelve years, the disappearance of Chris Tucker, and the compartmentalization of Jackie Chan? For the most part it is, but that depends on how you remember it. If you remember a fairly entertaining buddy cop film with enough action to sustain its running time, it still holds water. If you remember much of anything else, you’ll probably be disappointed.

Believe it or not, the last time Chris Tucker made a movie without Jackie Chan was Jackie Brown. Variety says that Tucker, who has only made the three Rush Hour movies since 1998, may star in The Rabbit, an upcoming action flick about a Vegas magician hired by the CIA to find a Russian counterfeit artist. Keeping away from more obscene movies (like the Friday sequels) after becoming a born-again Christian in the late ’90s, Tucker’s previously been in talks to make Agent Double-o Soul (basically an Undercover Brother before Undercover Brother) in the late ’90s, and a movie about Frank Sinatra’s valet in 2007. But aside from appearing in Michael Jackson’s “You Rock My World” video, Tucker’s only role has been Det. James Carter of the Lapd. We’d love to see him play Ruby Rhod again, though—any market for The Sixth Element?

Billed as “the fastest hands in the East meets the biggest mouth in the West”, I don’t think anyone expected Brett Ratner’s 1998 action comedy “Rush Hour” to do as well as it did (the film made $244 million worldwide from a $33 million dollar budget). The film made Jackie Chan a bankable action star in the West (as long as you teamed him up with a Western co-star, natch) and cemented Chris Tucker’s star status. The franchise would go on to produce two successful sequels (the franchise reached its height with “Rush Hour 2″ two years later, which went on to make $347 million worldwide), but December 7, 2010 will be the first time the first “Rush Hour” becomes available on Blu-ray from New Line Home Video. “Ain’t never gonna have no partner,” Lapd Det. James Carter insists. He gets a partner. And since that partner is played by dynamic martial...

Chicago – Thriller fans should seek out the fascinating “Red Riding Trilogy,” a series of films with largely different casts set in different time periods that attempts to pull back the facade of peace to reveal the dark face of evil underneath. The films are not perfect but they work together to create a memorable portrait of corruption that has infected an entire country and taken more than a few victims in its grip.

Chicago – Much ink has been spilled about how HBO is at the forefront of made-for-tv filmmaking in the world, a fact already demonstrated this year by the brilliant biopic “Temple Grandin” and the stellar WWII mini-series, “The Pacific.” Yet Britain’s Channel 4 deserves just as much attention and praise for producing the “Red Riding” trilogy, which has been routinely compared to HBO’s classic series, “The Wire.”
“Red Riding” originally aired in the U.K. last March, and has been currently playing across America in a limited theatrical release. With their convoluted plotting, brutal intensity, and combined running time of nearly five hours, these three crime thrillers are best seen separately. But moviegoers with the ability to schedule three trips to the theater are well advised to do so, since each “Red Riding” installment is cinematically lensed for a big-screen canvas.

Rob James-Collier has been confirmed for upcoming ITV1 costume drama Downton Abbey. The actor, who played Liam Connor in Coronation Street, has been cast alongside Dame Maggie Smith. Collier also joins Benidorm actress Siobhan Finneran, Joanne Froggatt, Hugh Bonneville, Penelope Wilton and Jim Carter. The drama, said to be a subtle remake of Upstairs, Downstairs, has been written by Oscar-winning scribe Julian Fellowes. Fellowes told What's On TV: "In 1912, England was teetering on the brink. Apparently placid, still rooted in the traditions of many centuries, it would be less than ten years before the First World War and the Jazz age had ripped every certainty to shreds. "This is the moment when we enter (more)...

It's a good day for funny people, especially if your name is Tina Fey or Seth MacFarlane.
Fey's series, 30 Rock, was handed 22 Emmy nominations this morning, which stands as a record for a comedy series. She and Alec Baldwin were also nominated for acting awards. Plus, for the first time some of the other actors on NBC's laffer were recognized. Jane Krakowski, Jack McBrayer and Tracy Morgan all picked up supporting nominations.
MacFarlane's Family Guy was also nominated for best comedy series, the first time an animated show has cracked that category since The Flintstones in 1961. Two years ago MacFarlane decided to pull his show from contention in the animated series category to have it considered for best comedy.
Mad Men, the drama about the advertising world in the sixties, picked up 16 nominations in the drama categories, including a best actor nod for Jon Hamm. Hamm is also nominated as...

Last week’s sad death of Michael Jackson has all of us in the MTV newsroom working overtime these days, for obvious reasons. We already ran a story on Mj’s direct influence in movies and TV including “The Wiz” and “The Simpsons.” What’s even more impressive is the movies he inspired without even appearing in them.
Below are ten classic film moments that would not exist if Michael Jackson never moonwalked across our planet and into out hearts. What’s your favorite?
“Back to the Future” trilogy
In “Back to the Future Part II,” we got a peek at the theme restaurants of 2015 via an order-taking television with a “waiter” hybrid of Mj and Max Headroom. In the trilogy’s final entry, set in the Old West, Marty McFly avoids getting shot by moonwalking away from some evil cowboys.
“Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”

Here at Boxwish, we would like to join the millions and millions of people across the world in expressing our sadness at the passing of Michael Jackson at the age of 50. The King of Pop, as he was so aptly christened by long-time friend Elizabeth Taylor, contributed so much to the world of music providing us with a cherished legacy of songs that will live long in our hearts and on our iPods. However, rather than repeat the many tributes paid to the star by his friends, family and fellow celebrities or to rake over his many years in the spotlight, we’re honouring Mj with a Boxwish-style celebration that remembers his best movie moments.

Bro-mance. (n., adj., v.)
1. Love between two heterosexual dudes that soars past regular friendship and does an intimate waltz around the line of platonic-ness
2. An alternative type of romance that, while it may at times be obstructed by women, will be rooted solely in the strong bond between two men
3. More than just friends…but not in that way
This list has been made in honor of the hilarious I Love You, Man, (go see it now!!!) but the truth is that the art of the bromance has actually existed for thousands of years; (maybe starting at Cain and Abel … or not). This special relationship has been continued by many great figures of cinema (like Apollo Creed and Rocky Balboa), and the recognition continues to this very day. In these new times where “bro” is replacing the word “dude”, and as various words of “bro-cabulary” begin to assimilate themselves into our daily vernacular,...
